    Mar y Tierra

Small cozy dining experience! The decor takes you to Mexico. The food is fresh, hot n cooked to authentic Mexican standard. I had the Mar y Tierra with corn tortillas. ¡Absolutamente delicioso! If you can't afford to go to Mexico or southern California for the authentic taste of Mexico, Playa Chac Mool is your local taste of Mexico. Great live music! Outdoor covered patio dining option. One block walking distance to St. Augustine Beach. Kid's menu available. Waiters/waitresses very attentive. Souvenirs available. A definite candidate for best authentic Mexican dining experience in St. Augustine/Jacksonville.

Pollo Chac - Mool - A plate of Mexican cuisine includes seasoned rice, beef stew topped with cheese, and chicken in a creamy sauce. In the background, there are small bowls of guacamole and salsa, along with foil-wrapped items on a wooden table. The setting suggests a casual dining environment with traditional Mexican dishes.

Unique family-owned spot with great traditional Mexican fare. Where to begin. We were greeted by the server who was kind and hospitable to us and our baby. She was so sweet and attentive throughout the evening, even with having to manage most of the restaurants orders. Service was top notch. The live music was great touch. We found out mid-meal that it was the owner of the restaurant. His daughter got up and sang a song too! Really fun experience. The food came out quick and was solid. The shrimp mojo de ajo was a shining star. I asked for some house hot sauce and so glad I did -- easily some of the best hot sauce I've ever had. I'm in love. The margs were strong, beers were cold, and guac refreshing. I'm an out-of-towner, but I'll be back.

Pollo Chac-Mool - The image shows a white plate with Mexican food, including a serving of yellow rice, a portion of beef in gravy, and chicken in a creamy sauce with mushrooms. A foil-wrapped item is placed on the rice, and the plate is on a wooden table. The setting appears to be a restaurant or casual dining environment.

The food was so delicious. We got the shrimp Diablo and pollo chac mool and both were ADDICTIVE. I will definitely be back!

Good mexican menu and price is reasonable. Food taste like typical mexican food. Server was very nice and there was a live performer.

Friendly family-owned business! We had east going dinner listening to live music. The nachos were tasty particularly with the fajita steak added on. The staff chatted us up and we're just the right amount of attentive. Thank you!

Classic college town Mexican restaurant vibes--consistent flavor, good prices, tasty food. We got chips and queso and salsa (chips do not come complimentary) and bean and cheese quesadillas. The queso was delicious, and the quesadilla was simple but good. They said they were understaffed but the service was still speedy and excellent. And the live music was wonderful!

The service at Playa Chac Mool is five star. We had two servers, both friendly and anticipated our needs. One brought crayons and coloring sheet over to tame our cantankerous toddler. And when she heard a fork drop, she rushed over with a fresh place setting. The other server checked on us regularly and kept our drinks filled. We were treated like royalty. The building is small and cute with limited parking. The inside is decorated with Mexican decor and was decorated for Christmas when we were there. There was an enclosed patio area and a main dining room with about 30 tables. The place was comfortable and about half full at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon. We were seated promptly. The food was ok, typical Mexican. My taco salad was massive served in a fried flour tortilla. Lots of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, seasoned ground beef, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. It was very filling but nothing special. My husband really enjoyed his plate of assorted enchiladas.

This is a great little family owned place. Everything great. Food and service! We went 1 or 2 times per week during our snowbird stay.

One of the coolest touches? A TV disguised as a piece of art that's actually a live stream of downtown St. Augustine. Such a fun, unique detail! Now let's talk food I ordered the shrimp and grits tacos, and WOW--they were packed with flavor. The grits added this unexpected crunch that worked so well with the shrimp. The textures blended perfectly and made every bite interesting. My husband went for the Miyagi beef tacos... and let's just say there were zero leftovers. He cleaned his plate, which says everything. The menu is where things get especially interesting--unique, playful, and definitely not your standard fare. I tried the chicken apple pie sandwich, which was as unexpected as it sounds. The place itself has such a cool vibe, fun atmosphere, great energy, colorful decor, and it really felt like the perfect spot to hang out, eat, and celebrate. Even though it was busy because of Cinco de Mayo, the service was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Everyone was upbeat, attentive, and made us feel taken care of the entire time. The food was outstanding. I ordered the Chimi Chimi Bang Bang Taco and the Blackened Shrimp Taco, and both were seriously packed with flavor. The shrimp was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning and heat, and the Bang Bang taco was messy in the best possible way with amazing flavor in every bite. Everything tasted super fresh and came out quickly despite how crowded it was. And honestly, you cannot beat the Taco Tuesday deal. $2.99 tacos every Tuesday is an absolute steal for the quality and portion size you get. Between the prices, the atmosphere, the food, and the service, this place is an easy 5 stars for me. Cantina Louie completely delivered and made Cinco de Mayo feel like a perfect night out. We got off the trolley at Stop 20, National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, and were going to walk to the restaurant. Unbeknownst to us, there was no crosswalk to cross the busy Ponce de Leon boulevard. Mom isn't as spry as she once was so we didn't risk crossing without a crosswalk, so we had to walk another 1/4 or so to the nearest crosswalk then doubled back to the restaurant. Located in the The Ponce St. Augustine hotel, the restaurant is just to the left of the main doors. We had to wait a bit to get seated as the lone server had to clean a table first. Service was slow. I ordered the Bistec a Caballo (medium), my wife tried their Pork de Leon with fries and my mom opted for the Inca bowl. Did I say service was slow? Our orders weren't synched up. My order and my wife's sandwich were served first and we had to wait a few minutes before my mom's dish was served. My wife liked her sandwich and fries although she thought the shredded pork was a bit dry. My mom liked the flavors of her dish, with tender cuts of meat and smoky soy sauce flavor. The Bistec a Caballo had decent flavors BUT that steak was tough, even ordered medium. I felt like I was cutting through shoe leather cutting it with the serrated knife. Slow service and a tough steak bumped our rating down. We just couldn't overlook the quality and/or preparation of my steak, even with good flavors. Lunch for 3 came out to just over $67 with tip. Oh yeah, they add a surcharge for credit card payments.
