Churro Cake
Becca H.

Pros and cons here... I'll start with dessert because that was the best part for us. They have a churro cake with vanilla ice cream. It was so flavorful and delicious! They serve the cake warm and though the presentation is a bit..... Interesting (see my photo for a giggle) it was the best thing we ate here. Came in at a weird time between lunch & dinner so it wasn't busy. We were seated quickly in a booth. The waitress came regularly but was not friendly at all. So service was just okay. First you get chips & salsa and when I say this is the mildest salsa I've ever tasted in my LIFE. It's basically just tomato sauce. We were hungry so we ate some but it was so bland & had zero to no flavor. I ordered the birria burrito and it's probably the biggest burrito I've ever seen. Enough for two meals which was awesome but again the flavor was just lacking somewhat. The birria itself did have decent flavor but again just so mild. Covered in queso which I like normally but you could barely taste it. My husband got a chimichanga which was a lot smaller, he also said the meat was the most flavorful part of the meal. So overall... This was just a mediocre Tex Mex chain imo. Lots of tvs so if you want to watch football, this place is for you.

An hour after I arrived at Anejo dense fog was everywhere like London in an old movie. They have outdoor seating that was bare of guests. We both had the tortilla soup which was very good. Mine without cheese and his with lots of cheese. It was like the tortilla soup I made with a kit from HEB in Austin. I just never added rice. He also ordered the pork belly. I had the street corn but dusted off most of the cheese and took two lactose pills just in case. The wait said many order the corn cut from the cob but what fun is that? Would someone cut your corn off the cob in the street? Beautiful restaurant with mid century modern decor, emerald booths, brown 70s style vinyl chairs, pretty pendants everywhere and art.

We live near this area and decided to finally try Anejo Cocina Restaurant. The interior is pretty nice, reminds me of another Mexican Restaurant. We were greeted warmly and seated right away.I appreciate that they provided us with complementary chips and salsa. We ordered the following: Chicken Wings - nice flavor of the buffalo sauce but it was not crispy as we requested . Pollo Loco - the chicken breast was nicely flavored and juicy. Love the veggies on the side and the grilled onions on top of the chicken! Birria Quesadillas- Tasty shredded beef. Would've enjoyed it more if it was crispy. Service was slow, our server never came back to check on us after we received our food. Waited too long also to get our bill. Not sure if we will come back.

I've been holding off on writing anything for this local chain establishment but it's finally time. Anejo has been solid through and through. The staff at the St John's location really make you feel at home. All of my dining experiences have been from bar service so take that with a grain of salt. The food here overall, is quite good. It's pricey. But everything in this area is pricey. It's a great value if you're looking for some fantastic Cancun shrimp tacos or a massive steak burrito (enough for two portions). Their shrimp diabla plate is excellent and be sure to order a side of tortillas to go along with it. Their diabla sauce is house made and incredibly spicy and flavorful, if you're a spice head. There just seems to be a minor fruit fly issue near the bar and hopefully that is remedied. Overall a solid spot to grab a drink and some fine dinner.

I have eaten here a few times, every time is great. The most recent time I tried the pizza, it was HUGE. Their margaritas are good, but I have had some that were just ok. Service is always great. Tasty salsa. The decor is Instagram worthy. Love the stand alone chairs.

The best pork belly ever!! Nice inside with plenty of space and menu. No photo of the pork belly because we ate it. Staff was very nice too! Great place for lunch or dinner at a decent price.

Rice has no flavor - my kid did not hardly touch the rice when usually it's the first thing eaten and their favorite part of the meal

After a trip to the beach we were all craving Mexican food. We were all looking forward to a delicious meal! I'd been craving their chicken quesadilla but did not want to pay $3 extra for the grilled so got shredded chicken. We got 2 kids meals also. The biggest disappointment was the rice - my kids will usually DEVOUR Mexican restaurant rice but could barely eat a few bites of this one. It was hard and had NO flavor at all. Service was incredible and chips/salsa so good but we won't be back due to the rice. The beans are so, so dark and don't have much flavor either.

Amazing food! Service, I tried this restaurant in Orlando and loved it ! So happy there is one closer to me now, inside is beautiful, service was great, we were seated right when we came in Thursday evening. We were starving and ate the food before I remembered to snap a shot. I had the Yucatan Cochinita Pibil $23.50 , we also did an order of carne asada to go $27.50 dishes come with rice & beans Complimentary Chips & Salsa, ended the night with a flan $9.50 (best flan since home in CA !!) not watery nice and firm just how I like it and not overly sweet! Order the flan! My drink was an Old Fashioned Añejo $25! Was delicous! Our waiter Axel was the best! Please give him kudos he was great! Awesome spot go in and give them a shot.

This place was highly recommended by the concierge's desk at the property I stayed at while vacationing in the area. The restaurant was nice and the service was good. I liked the atmosphere. The food was pretty good. If you like spicy though-get some hot sauce when you arrive. I found the food a bit bland.

We went for lunch, and were quickly seated in a nice booth. The restaurant was clean, colorful, and the menu had plenty of options. We were served a big bowl of fresh warm tortilla chips, and very good salsa. My husband ordered steak nachos, and I had the Mexican style corn tortilla chicken tacos. The serving sizes of our food was enough to also take some home. It was delicious. The wait staff was attentive, and we enjoyed our wonderful meal. This place has the tallest ceilings I've ever seen. Make sure you look up!

Restaurant is very clean and spacious, staff was very friendly and super tentative, we ordered the California burrito, the Arrachera steak, ground beef tacos and a kids hamburger. All of the food came out hot and very well seasoned. The one thing we would say is that they give out too little rice ratio to the beans but it was still very yummy.

Lunch at Añejo St Johns today was really good. We opted for the quesadillas and both were very flavorfull. Plenty of food, great service, and great prices as well. Will be back to try more dishes.

The food was very good! My only complaint was the Large Guacamole was too small for 4 people. I'm just comparing to other establishments. We originally wanted to sit to hear the music but was told it was outside. It was a cold night but the room was not cold. We missed half the music. Our waitress for dinner wasn't very personal but the bartender by the music was amazing!!! I had the Carne Asada it was very good. Everyone else had taco for taco Tuesday. This place was very clean and very well decorated! With the great music and good Mexican food we will be back. We will definitely go to the music area next time.

Once was your typical salsa and the the other was served warm and I will say I really enjoyed each, most then most places. We also got the Queso of course was was a nice large serving and lasted us the whole meal. Ashley and Sally both on got drinks. We Ashley had 4 drinks. She ordered the El Fuego Flight of Margaritas and Sally the Blood Orange Margarita. The flight was $35 and honestly the price is fair for that. You're getting 4, 12oz margaritas all of which are different (spicy) flavors. Looks at the menu for what to get as my entree was was a lot of options I don't normally see and they sounded very good but I had to go with my staple just to she who Pepper's compares to other Mexican restaurants in the area so I went with the California Burrito with Steak. They also had it available to add shrimp for $3 so I did that too. The burrito was huge and stuffed with steak and honestly more shrimp then I expected. The steak was very tender but I wish it and the shrimp were more seasoned. I will say the shrimp were on the small side but when it's $3 that's not bad. Ashley got the a 3 Item combo one of which was a Chile Relleno and this was so good. She loved it and really changed the game for her. We will for sure be coming back. Next time hopefully for Taco Tuesday!

But the chips themselves were a little lackluster. Not a huge deal though, and they were really just a vehicle to get guacamole and salsa to my mouth lol. I had a sparkling skinny watermelon margarita and it was refreshing! I don't normally love a skinny margarita, but I guess adding sparkle to it changed my mind. Everything is better with some bubbles! We also did end up ordering some ceviche and that was great! The ladies behind the bar were wonderful. Fun to chat with a little and great service! It does get a little loud in there, so keep that in mind if you want to be able to chat! I'm so glad this place ended up reopening. I always enjoy it!

We'd been going to Casa Maria's for years. And for years, it was an above-average Mexican…read morerestaurant. When La Nopalera decided to over-expand and their quality went downhill, Casa Maria was a good time out. Last night, my wife and I went for the first time in ages. I can always tell when a restaurant actually cares about their customers by the music. For an authentic experience, many will play music that matches the culture and ambiance of the food. For instance, the best Thai food I've had in Jacksonville is the Blue Orchid on Atlantic, because not only is their decór Thai, but the music they play suits the atmosphere. Now, when you walk in to Casa Maria, your hit with a very hard Sports Bar vibe. The music is 1980's, and the walls are covered in TV's, Jacksonville Jaguar logos and colors, and big 'DUUUUUUUUVAL' across the menu. It is no longer a Mexican restaurant... it's a sports bar that serves passable Mexican food. We ordered a California burrito with chicken to split, after we finally managed to catch our waitresses attention. It came quick enough, but the chicken was dry and over-cooked. Honestly, I've gotten better food at a food truck. The constant noise of songs like "Careless Whisper" and "Mr. Blue Sky" made it incredibly annoying to have to sit there, along with the TV "wallpaper". Maybe I should be happy that they don't have Day of The Dead decór everywhere, like every OTHER Mexican restaurant has decided to do. Not going back. Highly recommend you save your money and find a small Abuelita-style Mexican restaurant to give your money to,
