Although we have been pleased with a different location, we were not impressed with this location- mostly due to the service. My nacho order came to the table incorrectly and I sent it back. The guy who brought it to the table (not the server) was clearly annoyed with me, although I wasn't the one who screwed up the order. What came back was the correct nacho order with the added "bonus" of a giant beefsteak tomato on top. Our laughter when he walked away should have been a clue that his passive aggressive response was ridiculous, not to mention wasteful since we didn't eat it. We are from San Diego. This Mexican food is awesome! You can judge a Mexican restaurant by a few things. One is their refried beans and theirs are great. Two salsa, and Carnitas. Their Carnitas are absolutely incredible. Christopher took amazing care of us. The Carnitas here are the best in Jacksonville, ask to get them a little crispy. So I came here twice. The first time I came here, it was good. Not great but good. So we decided to come again and the 2nd time around was poor. Service: they were nice. Both times they did not write down our orders (I always hate when waiters do this, why because..) they got the order wrong both times. The 2nd visit we needed an extra min and the guy forgot about us. Had to ask someone else to bring the guy over. Food: portions were big. But super bland!! No flavor. The free salsa had more flavor than anything. But steak was bone dry. It was just underwhelming. Drink: I got a strawberry margarita the first time and original the 2nd. La Napolera is walking distance from my sister's house, so it has become her usual when she's not in the mood to cook and after eating here I totally get it. It's a very low-key Mexican joint with good drink specials, a ton of food options, and a friendly staff. My partner and I met up with sis and her guy for a relaxed evening. We came in from out of town and they wanted to share one of their fave spots. The menu is huge, though not terribly specific, but they have all the classics. When it comes to drinks, margaritas are available in regular, top shelf, and Patron which is all the description you get. We went with tacos (shrimp and al pastor) while sis and her guy chose steak and chicken fajitas. Ordering a margarita was a whole conversation with the waiter as we figured out the options. Thankfully, they had Herradura Reposado which made for a smooth margarita. I just can't do tequila blanco anymore. Don't judge me tequila purists. The food was tasty and about what I expected. There was enough for leftovers, but who's going to leave tacos for tomorrow? Not me. Those bad boys were going in my belly. Decent Mexican restaurant but nothing too special. I went for lunch and had the fish tacos for lunch (3 for $11.99). They come with flour or corn tortillas - I ordered flour and received corn. They also come with cheese, lettuce, and pico de gallo all on the side which I liked. The fish was a bit oily but tasted pretty good with all the toppings in the taco. The portion size was good for a lunch as well. The decor in La Nopalera isn't anything crazy, like a hometown Mexican restaurant. The service was attentive and nice. I won't be rushing back any time soon but if I had to go then I might try something else like the quesabirria tacos. read more

Fairly new La Nopelara Mexican restaurant location that just opened up in the Bartram area. The restaurant boast an optional outside seating area that not most La Nopelara restaurants have. The fam and I were greeted and seated right away by the hostess.     Inside the restaurant, they have 3 TVs tailored for any channel you want. Thankfully for me, they had the Jacksonville Jaguars game on all 3 TVs, enough for me to enjoy food with my family and to watch and cheer my Jags at same time.   In the middle of the restaurant, they have a Bar, surrounded by counter seats, so you too, can watch whatever is on TV. Nice, big wall art on the restaurant's side wall. The place is nice and open.   We were greeted by our waitress, Samantha. She was fast, attentive and friendly.   We ordered the following: Bistec Ranchero Enchilada & Chicken Burrito combo plate Two Taco combo plate Junior Taco Margarita   TIP for the ladies: Margaritas runs 2 for 1 until 5pm, so check with your server if this is available.   Food came out at a reasonable time. It was cooked perfectly. Food tasted like any La Nopelara joints that I have eaten from.   I would love to note and to commend Samantha for her A++ service. Despite her being our waitress, she also serve the other tables as well. She was all over the place. And she worked with a smile on her face. Brand new location in the heart of Bartram Park, although this place is smaller compare to all the other La nopalera in town, it has a huge bar with a variety of mixed drinks and beers to offer. Service was decent on a Saturday night. I came in with 5 other girls and we were seated right away. Since the place is new, the waiter was a bit slow on getting us our drinks and did not check on us as often as I would like. Hopefully the service will improve after this first experience. The decor is lovely, the wall art is perfect, goes well with the theme. Open concept with a big bar in the middle, so I love that. It was pretty loud towards the end of our night when people started to pour in, so it's definitely not a place to bring young children or to sit around to mingle. The food was good, big portion for the price. I had the $10.99 chicken and beef taco salad, the chicken was cooked perfectly but the beef was definitely over cooked because it was so dried. My friend had the fish tacos, veggies and fish all served separately, which was odd. Also, the fried chimichanga is served with ground beef, so that was a let down. Overall experience was nice, we might come back whenever we crave tex-mex but this will not be my first choice. read more

I was told by a colleague that La Nopalera is the best in town. So, I gave it a try. That's when I realized that my colleague had no clue what authentic Mexican food entails. Despite their tagline, La Nopalera is the least authentic Mexican restaurant I ever ever made the the mistake of visiting. I have eaten at three different locations, hoping for different results. The restaurant is less than disappointing to the level of disgusting. From a "chile relleno" that turned out to be a rectangle of bell pepper with cheese on it wrapped in aluminum foil, to a truly rancid tamale, La Nopalera is by far the worst so-called Mexican food I have ever tried. read more

Stopped in to get a simple chicken casa dia. First of all over stuffed and looked like a burrito. Sent it back and asked for the appetizer one instead. La Nopalera is the first choice for any family gathering. Birthdays, celebrations, this is the place we pick for convenience and price. Plus we can get 8 people at a table! Since i have started following them on Instagram, I'm trying new dishes that I haven't tried before. This last visit I tried the shrimp fajitas, and they did not disappoint! They came out sizzling, and they were delicious with fresh shrimp, peppers, and onions. I ate those by themselves and didn't really need the tortillas or rice and beans. The margaritas are also on point and more than two will make you feel good. I can't wait to try something new next time! read more

This is my first time at this location and we went on a Tuesday evening. We were seated right away. The two missing stars are for the service. The servers were friendly but random and very confusing. First we had a guy and he took our drink orders. Then a lady came by and wanted to get our drink orders, we told her the guy got them but could we get queso. She said sure. We got our waters and a pitcher of margaritas (Great deal btw!). We ordered our food with the guy. Then we waited and waited for queso. 10 minutes goes by and I can't find the guy or the lady who helped us. We finally see the lady and get queso. Then when it was time to pay we couldn't find either of them and had to flag a different server to get our bill. The margarita pitcher is a great deal if you have three or more people and it's strong! I got the California burrito and it was great. I always have half for lunch the next day. Absolutely awful experience the other day. Stopped by when I saw that friends were eating at this location as my wife and I were passing by. They were on the patio by themselves so we stopped by, sat down and never once did a waiter come by. We were there 20 minutes before I went to the bar inside and ordered a Coke for myself and a Watermelon Margarita for my wife. The bartender said he'd bring them out to us. Ten minutes later, no drinks and no one brought our friend's drinks either. I went back inside and was told "oh, my nephew was supposed to bring those out." Five minutes later, we have our drinks....after 35 or so minutes. When we left, we paid and the the lady at the register asked how everything was. My response "awful service" her reply was "oh, I'm sorry." I'm never coming here again. La Nopolera has always been bad, but never this bad. read more

We went to La Nop after a long day of moving in desperate need of food and lots of drinks! The food was good and so were the drinks but the service was very slow. Keep in mind we were starving so it might have seemed slower because of that but it felt like it took a very long time for someone to come take our drink and food orders. I had no idea what I was getting into. I went because a parent of my daughter suggested this place. I'd seen them around but never been. Well, should've kept it that way. The parking lot was packed, which in hindsight, boggles my mind. That many people want horrible Mexican food?? First of all, the ambiance leaves much to be desired. A big, open, cavernous loud room. With 2 young kids, it took so long for our food to arrive (4 of us), that even my daughter, who usually doesn't care, was complaining how long it was taking. It was probably 40 minutes. Not good when you have kids that have the attention span of an ant. It was torturous. Now to the food. I didn't even take a photo because it was not worth it. I got the Chile relleno, taco, and rice and beans dinner combo. On first impression, it looked like a big run-on platter of cheese and beans with a taco stuck on top. The rice and beans were probably the only good part of the meal. Apparently, their Chile relleno consists of a small strip of pepper hidden under a ton of melted cheese, and on top of a runny ground beef-like slop that tasted funky, like old gym socks. The chicken taco was filled with what was the consistency of macerated chicken salad regurgitated into a hard taco shell blistering from the moisture of the rice and beans it sat upon. I won't be coming back to any of these establishments. I'm shocked they get as many people as they do to fill the place. I have a feeling people come here for cheap margaritas and are too lit to care what their food looks or tastes like. Oh, and I was told this location was the *better* of their locations. They also had many flavors, like watermelon. I've nEver heard of a watermelon margarita!
