Above all else - they have always been friendly, accommodating and welcome us with good food, cold drinks & tasty chips & salsa! The restaurant is well decorated & the staff is super helpful. Everything I've tried - tacos, burritos, taquitos, enchiladas - have all been delicious. On good authority, ive heard their chicken soup is incredible (and plentiful). I ordered from Cinco de Mayo on DoorDash. They're only about a mile out for me so it was super fast and the food was hot. I'm not gonna lie first time that I had birria tacos, where the meat was very fatty. I've never ordered from them before it was not that flavorful. They did give complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is the watery style versus the chunky style, but I prefer and they didn't give any spicy salsa which sometimes comes with birria tacos. The consume was more oil than soup. The food here is pretty good. I had the carnitas tacos. You can get them American style or Mexican style. I chose Mexican, which is meat, onions, and cilantro. I love this. Our server spoke very little English. We asked about bell pepper in the chicken. We explained that my wife is terribly allergic. She said no. When her meal came out, we immediately saw bell pepper. The man who brought the food was terribly apologetic and told her he would get her a new plate right away with ground beef. She was good with that. This is a nice place to eat in. They have many booths and a decent bar area. The food portions are massive, especially the burritos. Mine weighed like 2 lbs. it's also worth mention that they cook their protein. To order, so none of the meats are dried out from sitting around. It's a solid choice for lunch or dinner before or after a game. read more

Went to lunch with a group of 8. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. I ordered the steak fajita quesadilla. Let me say, I was Very happy. It was large and absolutely stuffed with meat, cheese, peppers and onions. I tried this place with a group of friends the other day. The restaurant is very casual but large and has lots of seating. We were a group of 9 and they were able to seat us right away without a reservation which was nice because it was a Saturday evening. Me and my friend both ordered mango margaritas and they were not the best I've had. It was almost lukewarm/room temperature when I got it even though I ordered it on the rocks. Came here for a quick bite because we were in the area for an event, but didn't have dinner yet because we were still on California time. I'm an octogenarian in spirit and don't like eating dinner past 5, so this was a good option because it was 10pm and they don't close until 11pm. We ordered a California burrito and the server was kind enough to split it for us into 2 plates. It was good and filling. On a sweltering summer day, we ducked into Cinco De Mayo for an early dinner. First thing we noticed was the absolutely wonderful air conditioning! The only thing better than the air conditioning was the food. We got the fish tacos (grouper and mahi-mahi, flaky, tender and flavorful with crisp, fresh fillings (and lots of jalapeños) and a huge plate of chile rellenos with shredded chicken and a heaping mound of delicious rice and beans. Smooth and satisfying, so good! We also got a side of grilled veggies to make ourselves feel better, and they were delicious! Cinco de Mayo serves up delicious, authentic Mexican fare in a cool environment out of the heat of a Jacksonville summer. Definitely give it a try! read more

White people taco night! It's a place that's open late in downtown Jax, which is rare. And if you navigate it as Tex-Mex it's really fine. My chicken enchiladas had chicken that was actually seasoned and cooked perfectly, perfectly decent flour tortillas, and adequate but unspecial sauce. My Texan dining companions said the queso or "cheese dip" was quite good. The chips and salsa were average to bad. It was also the best bang for my buck the whole trip, I paid under $20 for a meal that made me too full to finish it. If you're in the area it may well be your best option. read more

We visited the new Cinco De Mayo downtown after they had only been open for one week, and really enjoyed the food! They didn't have any specials (we were expecting happy hour or a Taco Tuesday deal). Our waiter seated us right away and brought complimentary chips and salsa. You can tell the salsa was fresh because after being in the fridge leftover 2 days later it went bad. The salsa was just a little bit spicy, and the chips were warm. Loved it! Next time we will try their queso or guac too. The restaurant is spotless since it's brand new, and there is a huge awesome mural on the wall! This will be a hot spot before sporting events downtown. I didn't see a skinny margarita on the menu, but asked our waiter if they could make one. He agreed. My boyfriend got the house margarita (only $6.99!). The skinny margarita was not good at all. It was very sweet and tasted like orange juice with no alcohol in it. I actually really liked my boyfriend's house margarita much better. We ended up switching. Next time I may try a different type of marg. I got the vegetarian fajitas which came out sizzling hot! My boyfriend got the "special order #11" which was two burritos. He got one chicken and one beef. We both really enjoyed our meals, as well as the rice and beans. We finished the meal with tres leches cake (a slice big enough for 3 people to share). We had shrimp quesadilla and shrimp fajitas with black beans and they did not disappoint - especially fresh made black beans served with fresh made guac salad mmm mmm good! Beer was a bit pricey - $7.75 for Dos Equis (really???). And it was flat. So don't get that - and ask about the beer pricing before you order (not on the menu). Our server was so sweet! But overworked - noticed others standing around so better scheduling would help as you all get settled - especially with the concert crowd. Overall nice night we left very happily stuffed! read more

If I could give this 0 stars I would. We waited on queso dip for almost 45 minutes. The carne asada tacos I received were cold and dry. Another person I was eating with the manager knocked over his jarritos on to the floor and picked it up and placed it back on to the table and never returned with another drink. Was really excited to learn of a new Mexican restaurant opening nearby; very sorry to say it turned out to be just as underwhelming as all the others. Not sure why, but it seems that in the last 15+ years, it's become fashionable not to cook Mexican food with onions and seasonings. Sadly, you can buy Ortega Taco meals or even frozen Mexican meals at the grocery that have more flavor than the local restaurants, except Taco Bell. Bland food is not enjoyable. Upon arrival the AC was broken, which it has been broken for over a month now. The salsa was straight water and the onions and cilantro in the salsa tasted like they had gone bad. I was so excited for some cheese dip because "how can you mess that up?!" But the cheese dip tasted burnt, like it had been sitting for hours! The chips were even stale! The restaurant was dead and it took over 10 minutes to get drinks. I was so disappointed at this point, I asked for my check. When the check was given to me, the amount was only listed for the queso (and didn't have my soda on it) but when she returned my card and my check she magically added my beverage and charged it. That is unacceptable. I'm happy to pay for my beverage but don't give me a check with one amount and then take my card and charge me $4 more than the amount listed on the original bill. It is SO disappointing to have a Mexican restaurant doing so terribly in downtown Jacksonville. This review is for Cinco De Mayo to hopefully get it together!! We want to keep restaurants like this in downtown Jax but it was such a poor experience. read more
