As a truck driver always on the hunt for good eats near truck stops and Walmarts, I spotted this little Mexican place from the parking lot and decided to give it a shot. Man, it was one of the best decisions I've made on the road lately! The food came out hot and fresh with that real homemade taste. The tacos were packed with flavor, the rice and beans were on point, and the portions were generous enough to fill up a hungry driver without breaking the bank. I went with the carne asada and it hit the spot perfectly - seasoned just right, not too greasy, and cooked tender. Service was quick and friendly, even when they were busy. The place has that classic hole-in-the-wall vibe (in the best way), nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. It felt like the kind of authentic spot locals would keep coming back to. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the parking can be a little tight for a big rig if you're not careful, and they don't have a ton of truck-friendly seating space. But the food more than makes up for it. If you're rolling through the area and craving real Mexican food, definitely stop in. The food seemed better before the move to Phillips hwy. The last three times we've been(this is super close to home) food has not come out as well as it did in the past. When we pointed it out the servers would give quite a bit of push back and we finally asked for the manager on duty last wk. they weren't super nice/polite about but it is frustrating considering this is somewhere we go WEEKLY, went*. Headed to an event in this area and looking for a new (to me) spot for lunch. Yelp to the rescue. In an out of the way area you come upon this hidden little gem. Parking lot was full so that was a good sign, and the aromas wafting out the door beckoned us in quickly. As others have said, it is a bit loud, and communication a bit challenging if you are not a Spanish speaker, but we had no problem pointing out our desired menu items. I had the guacamole dip as an appetizer, and ordered the lunch fish tacos. It is nice when a restaurants has a lunch menu that is available 7 days a week! The guacamole was small, but very tasty. Full of very tasty avocados. The fish tacos were stuffed with fish pieces, crunchy and juicy bites, served with simple lettuce and huge pieces of avocado. The rice & beans were very good. I am ashamed it has taken me this long to review Mi Veracruz! This is a gem in Spring Park, authentic Mexican food and ambiance and I love it. They have been around for years and just about 2 years ago they added a tienda and addition to their dining room. They are always packed and every time I go in there it feels like they are all a big family . I order shrimp sopes with rice and beans, that's my go to dish. The sopes are perfect, always cooked well and loaded with beans, lettuce, guacamole and cheese. The rice and bean serving is huge and taste amazing! Best guacamole I've had in 10+ years, food was incredible. I came back two nights in a row. It was so good first night. I did their mixed fajitas coming out on the seasoning plate that stayed hot throughout the entire dinner second night. A small building that seen better days houses a business that produces some very good Mexican food. I had the carnitas and asked for them spicy. Truly a great dish and one I heartily recommend. Pork and onions in a spicy sauce, served with rice, refried beans, and tortillas. It seems especially true for Mexican food but you can find the best representations of that particular cuisine in small hole in the walls much like this one. I really enjoyed this little spot! It's not pretty but the food is amazing! Very authentic and reasonably priced. Just as a note- very few employees speak English. Communicating with our server was a bit hard but we made it work! They are very kind and patient. I have the traditional style tacos. I don't know what the green sauce was exactly but I could have drank it! It was so flavorful and just the right kind of spicy. The meat was perfectly seasoned and nice and tender. We were there late on a Sunday night. It was slow when we got there but business picked up a bit and there was a steady stream of customers. We sat in the bar area and ended up being inadvertently serenaded by some of the more tipsy patrons at the bar. (The manager even came up to us and asked if we were bothered, we said no, we were enjoying it and we really were. Lol) The TVs were tuned into soccer (football). The feel inside was like an old, worn (but clean) family country/sports bar. We started off with chips, salsa and queso. The salsa was good and spicy and the queso was delicious. The food came out fast and was very good; hot, fresh and very affordable. My husband had the "fajitas de casa" (steak) and there were enough that he couldn't finish them and had to take a small box home. I had the carnitas and the chunks of roasted pork were fork tender, crispy (on the outside), juicy (on the inside) and delicious (all over). The fresh corn tortillas were a delight. We both loved the beans and rice. (The beans were both chunky and creamy, the way I like it.) The guacamole on our plates was small but delicious. Delicious authentic Mexican food! We were in the area for a lacrosse tournament. It was a great place for my son and I to celebrate a win! Seems like the local hotspot on a Sunday. We followed many Spanish speaking patrons into this gem. Cool vibe with colorful booths, Spanish music and ESPN Deportes on the TVs. Started off with a negra modelo beer which always hits the spot. They had fish tacos on the lunch menu. I could not pass those up. Grilled whitefish with cabbage avocado on soft corn tortillas with Pico de Gallo. Very tasty. Sides were refried beans and rice. Friend had the burrito supreme and it looked great. He got it with beef but they also do seasoned chicken. He said it was pretty good. Service was wonderful and this time I got pictures. When we were about done the waitress brought out there pitchers of bloody Mary's with shrimp on the lip of the pitchers. 4 guys 4 pitchers 4 straws. They looked great. Authentic Mexican food. The booths sit uncomfortably lower than the table. It's a bit loud with cross talk throughout the place. And I loved it. Mi Veracruz is an authentic hole in the wall Mexican joint with tasty food and a few flaws that detracted from the overall experience. On a rainy Wednesday night, the place wasn't too crowded; maybe three other parties, and a handful of people enjoying some cold beers at the bar. The complementary chips and salsa were pretty good, though I could have used a refill on the chips as we were hungry and demolished the small basket pretty quickly. I ordered the arroz con pollo and added the shrimp option for an entirely reasonable $2 upcharge. Our dishes came out very quickly, and mine was absolutely delicious. The chicken and shrimp were well-cooked and the whole dish was seasoned well and smothered in a sort of cheesy crema that tied the whole thing together. I cleaned my plate and was fat and happy. The veggie fajitas my wife ordered were a different story. The veggies were pretty bland, and both of our dishes suffered a little from some residual carbonized char that I can only imagine is from the flattop on which they were cooked that hadn't been cleaned in a while. That didn't bother me so much but it skeeved out my wife. Overall, cleanliness was sub-par. The restaurant could definitely use a deep cleaning. Unfortunately, service was also slow despite the fact it wasn't busy. There were a few servers attending to all the seated tables but check-ins with each table were few and far between which extended our stay quite a bit longer than we cared to sit there. On the other hand, prices were very reasonable and my food was delicious, so it's a bit of a crapshoot on whether or not I'd return. If I was in the area, probably, but otherwise I'd look elsewhere. read more

What a great place! Try the Bloody Mary! The beers are also cold. Next trip I'll test their margarita expertise. I had tamales. I didn't want them drowned in queso or cheese, So I asked for red sauce. It was home made. These tamales are tasty. My partner had lunch chicken fajitas - the smell and taste were lovely. I decided to follow the smell and I'm oh so glad I did. I only spoke to my waitress throughout the visit but this restaurant definitely feels family owned. For starters, there were tons of families and construction engineers on their lunch break enjoying tables full of food so I knew instantly I was in the right place. I cannot remember the name of what I ordered but it's basically fajitas over rice with cheese dip. From the salsa and chips to the last pieces of rice on my plate, I was impressed. This bill comes and I thought there may have been a mistake due to the low amount due. Nope, no mistake. BEST Mexican food I've had in Jacksonville! I ate at Mi Veracruz for the first time last night. The food was incredibly tasty and fresh. I had the chicken chimichanga and two Tecates. The food was hot, the beer was cold, the chips were warm and the salsa was cool. Additionally, everything was priced very reasonably. It's a no frills place, with what seemed like mostly locals. The atmosphere was low key and clean. There is even a little convince store connected to it, if you need some items before heading home. I highly recommend this place. Jacksonville's best authentic Mexican restaurant, by a LONG SHOT, is Mi Veracruz on Spring Park road (no Tex Mex here!). The venue is a literal hole in the wall where the small percentage of Mexicans in the community gather to eat. The Carnitas dish (featured alone in my pictures) comes with tender and fatty chops of pork, rice, beans, and the typical pico. My second entree, the Chicken Flautas, were consumed faster than I could photograph them. Add a beer, chips, salsa, and two sides of tortillas and the bill didn't break $21 even. They will be seeing me. A lot. With food this good, prices this low, and a staff that friendly, let's just pretend I never told you about them and keep it as our little secret (Other pictures include MASS amounts of food in another visit with friends.
