We decided to try this place on Cinco de Mayo so we were prepared for a wait. We were seated immediately and had salsa and chips right away. The salsa was super watery. My bf said it was like water with hints of tomato and chunks. The queso was better. My bf had a few Maltas. I wanted sangria (on the menu) but was informed they didn't have any. I got the California burrito without tomato sauce and pico de Gallo. I had shredded chicken as my meat. It was good. Nothing special. My bf got carnitas tacos on corn tortillas with cilantro and cheese. They give you a TON of cilantro if you cant tell from the pictures. He said it was ok but wasn't what he was expecting. Overall it was an ok meal. Nothing to write home about. The servers were busting their butts though. read more

I have never felt so unwelcome in any establishment then I did today. I wasn't going to share that tidbit. Since I felt that way my entire lunch experience up until I pulled out of the parking lot I felt it needed to be shared. I don't want anyone one else who looks like me to experience the same thing. Yes. I do feel wholeheartedly that it was because of the way I looked. The food was just OK as was the service. I don't usually gripe about the prices and certainly don't mind paying extra for white cheese sauce. If you choose to eat here just know that they only give you half a bowl of salsa with chips and the bowl of white cheese is extremely small compared to other restaurants that I've been too. The chicken was tough and the ground beef didn't taste right to me. I regret spending my money here. read more

El Tapatio has been on the Westside forever! But I've only recently discovered them, but boy I'm glad I did! The first time I came was on a Taco Tuesday - trying to avoid the Flavorless Flats! They don't offer a discount on Tuesdays, but they don't need to! Most tacos are $2 and done either street style or Americano. Some of their specialty tacos go for $3. El Tapatio serves Tex-Mex favorites, but also traditional Mexican dishes that you won't find in chain restaurants (sopes, tortas, caldos & seafood). This attracts a very loyal patronage and you know it's authentic and tasty. The wait staff is very friendly & helpful and wait times for meals is minimal. My most recent visit, I had enchiladas & my son got a huge burrito! Both were delicious. Various styles of Mexican music will fill the rooms and soccer will always be on (although I did see a Jags game on too)! read more

My husband and I had a craving for Mexican food, and this place satisfied that perfectly! Everything was hot, fresh and flavorful. It reminded me of my childhood growing up in New Mexico. We ordered it to go and my husband had the steak with onions and I had the pork carnitas. We also ordered 6 tacos, 2 carne asada, 2 pollo, and 2 al pastor. We had enough food for two days. They took extra care by wrapping our styrofoam containers in Saran Wrap. Nothing spilled and it was piping hot when we got home! read more

El Tapatio continues to be our go to spot for Mexican. We always get the cheese dip and eat way too many chips before our meal arrives. I have a hard time ordering anything other than the Pastor tacos because they are THAT good. Honestly, we haven't had anything that we didn't like. The cheese dip is good, the guacamole is good and so is the salsa (spiciness varies from day to day). Sometimes we order all three and I have a hard time picking my favorite. All the meats that I have tried are good but obviously the Pastor is my favorite. You can't go wrong with El Tapatio! read more

We came in hoping this place would have authentic Mexican food. After Living on the West Coast for over 30 years I have developed a fondness for good authentic Mexican food and sadly my current city I have only found 1 decent authentic Mexican restaurant. The inside is on the dark side and is really large. We came in for dinner and is was half full. Our waitress was friendly and took very good care of us. When we ordered both my daughter and I noted they didn't put queso fresco on the tacos. We got used to that out west. We asked the waitress if we could get some on our tacos and she said no problem. The wife ordered the Chicken enchiladas. I got the Pastor, Lengua, Chicken and Asada. They were all delicious. My favorite was the Lengua - Beef Torque. The waitress truly hooked us up as she brought a desert size plate full of sliced queso fresco. It was the perfect addition to the Delicious tacos. We had extra queso and ended up eating it by itself and it was pretty tasty. This was authentic Mexican and was just what we were looking for. Will definitely be back next time in JAX ... read more

It had been almost two years since my last review and I decided to try them out again and the difference two years can make!!! They're tacos are fantastic now! Due to the pandemic my boyfriend and I decided to get takeout and I loved how they packaged everything! Down to the onions and cilantro on the side so you can choose how much goes on your tacos. Which, spoiler alert, I love a lot of both! I had the barbacoa, asada, carnitas and pastor tacos and I cannot pick which I liked the most! I will definitely be back for more!! read more

Oh man oh man! This is literally my FAVORITE Mexican restaurant! We eat here every week! I crave it so bad! I get the special #5 (chicken quesadilla with rice and beans) the chicken is always so flavorful and juicy! Makes your mouth water! Oh the rice! The price is a bit higher than I'd expect to see here in this dusty strip mall type setting considering the building/dining room furniture/utensils are old and outdated. I ordered the Texas fajitas which was steak and chicken. I must say, coming from Tejas, this Florida fajita pattern I'm experiencing is a serious let down. No cheese, no sour cream, no guacamole?? What gives guys? Do you honestly think a fajita is simply meat, a few strands of peppers, tomatoes in a tortilla? Sheesh. Breaks my Texas heart. Considering these basic fajitas were $14 alone, I wasn't interested in paying more for the "extras". Then again this has been my experience each time I've eaten fajitas in Florida. My local Mexican restaurant and we eat here a lot. Very reasonably priced and the food is very good. The whole family likes going here. A tad shabby but rhat gives it it's own charm. I am vegan and sometimes they will make guacamole for me without sour cream and sometimes nor. It may depend on the price if avocados. read more

When searching for some good Mexican on the west side I found El Tapatio - a quiet hole in the wall style Mexican Resto offering authentic Mexican and Tex mex dishes. I was upset to see they were beer and wine only which meant no margaritas but they did have delicious Micheladas which I had to take part in. They offer free chips and salsa which is common and the salsa was pretty good. Nice little spice. For my meal I had 3 tacos : lengua, Asada, and pastor. The lengua was tender and yummy, and the pastor had lots of flavor and might have been my favorite. The Asada was dry and my least favorite of the three, also lacked a good steak flavor I was looking for. Overall I'd say this place is a great spot to come in if you're in the area! read more

Run don't walk to this restaurant! It's a little hole in the wall but the food is amazing! We ordered queso with Chorizo dip for our chips. It was perfect. Not spicy at all. We ordered the Fajitas Tapatio and the Fried Chimichangas. There was a ton of meat for the fajitas cooked to perfection. The Chimichangas were delicious as well. Well after a nice day at the beach and a long drive from Palm Coast my wife and I were extremely hungry. We were in the mood for some good Mexican food. The last place we usually go to has been on a steady decline so we came across this spot and decided to give it a try. We are glad we did. As soon as you walk in you get bombarded with authentic Mexican culture. This lets you know the food will not disappoint t. My wife and I both lived in El Paso for some time so we have a soft spot for good Mexican food. The staff is friendly and the food is awesome. Definitely recommended. read more

She made me order the vegetable quesadilla ($11) without the rice and beans. So I paid $11 for a meatless quesadilla. I'm still pissed. Tacos were just meat, cheese and lettuce. Ok so this place is the place that isn't that authentic to Mexican food. Actually it's a little far from it. The horchata feels a little too grainy. They haven't updated the place at all nor will they. But something keeps bringing back. What is it? Good service and they serve great Sopes. 2 of them is just enough to fill you up and it's like $3 each. I usually get the steak ones. Tacos aren't great and the soups are expensive for what they are. I would have never known about this place if my boyfriend wouldn't have searched up restaurants near me! It's a hole in the wall, and a damn good one, too. The atmosphere is so welcoming, and the waitresses are wonderful and cater to your needs in a timely manner. I went basic and got a chicken quesadilla... Let me tell you, that was the best quesadilla I have ever had in my entire life. The people I was with also enjoyed their food. The red sauce that is supplied on the table was amazing!! Everyone had a great time and the prices were fair. I mean, the food that came out was steaming and sizzling so loud that you could hear it from another table! I am from California so I can kind of be a snob when it comes to Mexican food, always searching for anything that is not Tex Mex. This place is truly authentic, affordable, and so dang good. First off I'm biased anyone from California has a certain standard for mexican food. But i will say the California burrito is pretty good. The fajita nachos get chalky on the bottom and some of the meat is chewy. Quesadilla rellena is really good too. Pineapple aguas is too sweet. Horchata is delicious. read more
