The service here is always good. I really love the ambiance of this restaurant, even though its a small restaurant. There is always plenrlty of parking here. The res here are always presentable and clean. Today I decided to go with a beef taco and chicken enchilada combo platter. The enchilada was topped with red sauce, which was mildly spicy and not to over powering. The beef taco was very good and shell was very crispy. The cheese that they use was fresh and flavorful. The chips and salsa were ok but I've had better. My tacos were good but the crunchy taco became soggy before I could eat it. Each taco was stuffed with meat, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. After leaving a meeting nearby, a few colleagues and I visited Hola for a weekday lunch. We arrived just before it started getting really busy. Tortilla chips and salsa were placed on the table as we reviewed the menu. The chips were light and crispy but they had a strange taste to them that was somewhat off putting. The same issue happened with the chicken nachos, which were generously topped with shredded chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, and sour cream. I poured some of the table salsa on top of the nachos to add a little flavor but the main issue with them was that the weight of the toppings made the chips soggy. My entree was better than the appetizers. I got the two empanadas meal - one chicken and one beef - which was served with rice and beans. The empanadas were excellent, particularly the beef one. The crust was thick enough but still soft with a slight crunch and the filling was plentiful. I also enjoyed the refried beans and rice. The lunch menu was expansive, with 30 offerings, and their more extensive regular menu was also available. The food came out of the kitchen fast and despite the busy lunch hour, service was very attentive. With the reasonable prices I can see why this place is so packed. read more

I love Hola! I work nearby and pickup lunch to go at least once a week for a few years now. The #5 is my favorite, but today I tried the #7 (pictured). Their salsa is always fresh, chips are never soggy, and the food is great. They're a small business and I always see the same women working when I come in. They have indoor and outdoor seating and a super cute authentic vibe. I definitely recommend if you're looking for lunch places near downtown or Springfield. This place is okay, I've had better. Dining room is relatively small. The food is pretty good but nothing too special. It's typical food for Jacksonville's Mexican offering. I did like the guacamole dip but almost $4 for hardly an ice cream scoop portion. I would not drive out of my way for it but it's sufficient for a quick lunch in the downtown area. I prefer to support local and this place has been here for a while. I know they tried to open a location in Mandarin but it was a chicken and egg situation. They did not have enough servers to accommodate a full house so when they were full, the service was lacking. I REALLY wanted to love this place! Mexican food is my favorite so I was really looking forward to eating here. My husband ordered the enchiladas verde lunch special which was very good. I ordered the empanada and beef flauta lunch special. The empanada was ok, very crispy. The flauta was super crispy and the beef wasn't tender enough for me to bite through. It reminded me of meat from a pot roast. The chips and salsa were good! The biggest disappointment was the service. Our waitress seemed completely annoyed that we were here. We asked what the Happy hour specials were and her response was "that doesn't start until 2" which we were fully aware of since it was 1:40. When she came back to take our order we weren't ready yet (there are a lot of great lunch choices). We told her we'll order in a few minutes and that we'd also like to order drinks at happy hour. She came back for our food order but didn't come back for our drink order until we waived her down. We've been wanting some regular Tex-Mex, nothing ultra-fancy, fussy or fusion, etc., and we definitely got it here! The menu had all the standard dishes you expect and desire. The place is absolutely adorable, inside and out. Not brand new at all, rather careworn, but colorful and clean and very cheerful. We were waited upon by the owner and for lunch on a Saturday, it wasn't busy but there was a steady stream of people coming in/out and picking up take out. We were given chips and each of us received individual dishes of salsa (more sauce than chunk but a nice mild heat). That was a very nice touch because my husband likes his salsa on the spicier side and he added some of the hot sauce on the table to his. (Plus it eliminates the whole "double dipping" issue that some people get perturbed by. LOL) We did run out of chips and we given another basket. Food came out pretty quick and plated nicely. (See pics. No pics of my husband's dish because he started eating before I could get a pic.) I had the chicken chimichanga - crisp on the outside, but still fork tender without splintering. It looks small in the picture, but it was almost all tender white meat with a little bit of tomato, pepper and onion inside. It was opened ended (not folded like a burrito) so when it was fried, the meat at the ends got a little crispy. Delish! My daughter had the burrito supreme (beef with bean) and my husband had a combo plate (Pancho Villa #2 LOL) with a burrito and a taco. All three of the dishes came with rice and beans which were great. The beans had a bit of chunk (which I like) and the rice was very soft & tasty. The sour cream and real guacamole that accompanied all our meals were generous in size. My daughter's plate was a bit heavy on the lettuce, but she had no complaints and ate it all. We weren't going to do dessert, but when he suggested Fried Ice Cream, we broke down and ordered one to split. You might not be able to tell by the picture, but it was very large and definitely is meant to be shared. It was very good and between the 3 of us, we finished it off. Last, but not least, I used a certificate ($10 off minimum of $20) from Restaurant.com and it was accepted without a problem. Nice little spot on the way into Springfield. I've driven by several times now and was hesitant to check it out. Don't let the buildings exterior dissuade you. It's a tasty family owned place. We ordered a la carte, e.g. tacos, quesadilla, queso dip, etc. The food was pretty good (no fancy ingredients just meat cheese and some veggies), but it was well priced and good sized portions. They have happy hour from 2-close (buy one get one beers and margaritas). Check it out...it's only about $10 a person, so not much to lose read more

Went here for lunch today. I have driven by Hola Mexican off Main Street many time, The exterior of the restaurant is very eye catching and has a nice inviting outside patio for dining. Inside to my amazement is not as big as I thought but comfortable. The decor is quite nice and has some great pieces of what I would call art. I went for the lunch menu and I think the had 30 different dishes, I had the soft chicken taco with re-fried beans. After having so many Mexican dishes I was not to impressed with it. I don't think I was given the option of corn or flour taco's however the flour taco was soft and good. The shredded chicken was not flavored to my taste but was in a sauce which dripped out after I bit into the side of the taco. It came with the standard cheeses, lettuce and tomatoes. The re-fried been was good but I have had better. The service was ok and I don't understand why servers don't make eye contact with their customers. The waiting staff did say "takes for coming and have a great day" which was a good thing. My coworker all like their dishes and Yes, I would try it again and try a different dish. read more

Let me start by saying I don't write many reviews but this place just knocked it out of the park and that deserves recognition. First off I think any Mexican restaurant has to start with complimentary chips and salsa. It just sets the mood. Right when we walked in they immediately delivered baskets of hot chips to the table with multiple (4!) bowls of salsa. The salsa had a tad too much black pepper if I'm being totally honest but I am not really a huge black pepper fan so yeah. Nonetheless it was still delicious and really got everyone hype for the meals to come. Idk what the guy across from me ordered but it was a stingray shaped green pepper (my guess was poblano) filled with a monstrous amount of cheese. I had a bite, not sure what that tasty treat was called but see if you can find it, it's well worth the hunt. Our other appetizer was a large bowl of queso. I'm pretty picky about queso but this was phenomenal. No complaints whatsoever. The consistency was on the thinner side but that's how I like it. Really great flavor. I could've just placed a straw in that bad boy and had a nice bowl of cheese for my meal but I had my eye on something else. I've been craving fajitas for a while now so for my meal I went with the carne asada fajitas. WHAT a delight. Not sure how profanity is taken on this site but I just gotta say it was fucking delicious. If you wanna be transported to the tropical land of Mexico for an hour or so before you inevitably have to go back to that job you hate, look no further.
