I have heard mixed reviews about La Nopalera from friends and colleagues, so I figured that since I was meeting with clients nearby, this would be a good place to grab lunch. Parking is decent enough and walking in, I found the staff to be friendly and the ambiance was pretty much what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Awesome Mexican restaurant here on Kingsley Ave. lots of parking here today Friday at around 5:00 pm. Not too busy. Cool front host, professional and friendly. Got us seated right away. Our waitress, Jazlin (Hopefully I spelled it correctly). She was quick, friendly, attentive, and very kind. Excellent recommendations from here. The quality and the quantity of the plates here are good. Plenty of food for the price you pay. We also really enjoyed the scene here, very nice vibe, and cool decoration. Kingsley location in Orange Park. overall nice service but my food was mediocre. very disappointed in the chile rellanjo. it was about a quarter of a piece of pepper (honestly couldn't tell if it was pablano or bell), just kind of steamed and laying under a small ladle of chile. not the traditional kind I am used to. (possibly a regional way of cooking it). I'm used to the whole pepper being stuffed, covered in egg, fried, and covered in queso. when I questioned it the waiter said that it was the chile rellanjo! I literally had to move the topping around and then saw the tiny bit of pepper underneath. My friend had the fajita salad and she was very pleased with her order and the taste. I was checking out other dishes coming out of the kitchen and they looked delicious. if I go back I will try something else. read more

We have been coming to the restaurant since 1998 and it keeps going downhill. Our favorite was the fajitas nachos. It used to be more like a salad with freshly stir fried veggies and lots of green onions and a little queso sauce at the bottom. Now everything is over cooked, no fresh veggies and drowning in queso at the bottom of the plate, the chips are so soggy with queso you can't enjoy them. We gave it one last chance and now we are just done wasting our money. The owners should take a trip to Gainesville and try Linda Vista off I75. They have a similar dish called Nachos Fajitas that is just wonderful. Not heavy, everything is fresh and crunchy not mushy. The service is great and they really appreciate the business. It's also very clean. Its really a shame how La Nopalera has changed and also the service is really bad. No one comes to check on you anymore and I had to literally go to the kitchen entrance and ask for more chips and salsa and drink refills. I hope they take this seriously and improve their menu and service. I would hate to see it go out of busness. read more

Cinco de Mayo! Very busy but seated quickly. Food took a little longer than usual but not a lot. My tacos were wonderful. Enchiladas were excellent. The prices for this place were OK. You can have get a meal for 10-15 bucks and it has a lot of choices. However, there's a good amount of flies in the air and the food was tasteless. The beef tasted boiled and the tacos were terrible (didn't know tacos could be bad). Rice and beans tasted like they came out of a can. The Chile relleno tasted pretty good, but was more of a soup. We were visting from San Diego, so we know what authentic Mexican is. The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa. My wife had tacos, I had a chile relleno. Tha tacos were ground beef on a store bought hard shell and she said that taco bell makes them better. The chile relleno was terrible. It was a few pieces of green chile's topped with sauce that tasted like what you put on stet on a shingle. When I asked the waiter he seemed proud to say "that's the way we make them". Is this the fanciest place? No, but is it just what the doctor ordered. Yes! After a 4-hour drive to Jacksonville we were in search of food for 4 teens and a couple of adults. The adults needed Margaritas and wanted the kids to have something that filled them up without breaking the bank. This place hit all of our needs. We called when 1 hour out and made a quick reservation since we had 6 and they accommodated us. We were seated as soon as we arrived, and the margarita was delivered within a few minutes. And we ordered our food and to our amazement we were eating within 15 minutes. BTW, the Margarita hit the spot!. For my meal I got Dinner combo #15 with Chalupa, Chile Relena, and burrito. OMG! This was awesome. Every bit of it. We got out of there with about a $20 per person average. Everyone was full and we were on our way in less than an hour! Success. We will be back. read more

The Mexican Centerfold of Orange Park. Remember when it was down the street, on Kingsley Avenue..You almost had to fight your way in the door to get in a crowded little restaurant. Now, it stands as a Mecca in Orange Park. In the past 20 something years I think I've had every item they have served, but what stands out the most are the fish grill, the fajitas, the tamales, the chile rellenos, and the flan. Good food! I'm so disappointed. I haven't had food that was not made well and gave me an immediate stomach ache in a long time. The service was fantastic and very quick. I appreciated the gentleman who helped me asking if I'd like lemon for my water. The restaurant was actually pretty busy for lunch and the kitchen looked clean from where I could see. I placed my order to-go over the phone and when I picked it up 5 minutes later, it was ready to go. However, the salsa was extremely spicy (much more than other La Nopaleras) and the guacamole on my tiny tacos was also way too spicy. I typically enjoy spicy food. The quesadilla was dense and not melted, but it was also on a weird flour tortilla that was difficult to chew. I also was shocked my bill came to $11 for a basic lunch with water when the website advertised it being $6 for lunch. I will definitely not be visiting this location again nor will I ever recommend anyone visit this La Nopalera. So disappointed. read more

This was my first time at this LaNop location. I've been to other locations, such as San Marco, Roosevelt Blvd. and Philips Highway. I thought I would give this location a try. I had the dinner combination #6 -- enchilada, taco, rice and beans-- which is my favorite and usual dish I get whenever I'm at LaNop. Everything tasted good. It was the usual La Nopalera fare, so my expectations were no different than at any other location. The service was on point, too. This was my first visit and the fajita nachos were highly recommended to me by frequent patrons. They were incredibly good but there was so much that I made 2 more meals out of them. This is pretty standard mexican fare. Nothing special. Not bad, not great. The ambiance is good, the staff are usually pretty good. This is a solid choice for a mexican fix. In my opinion the beans could use some flavor, and some salt. The chips are light and crispy. The salsa is tasty and very mild. There is plenty of food to go around. The guac is not nearly as good as El Potro. It was pretty bland and tasteless. For $2.99 we got a 4 oz dish, not full. I would not get that again. You cannot leave here hungry. read more

This was by far the most horrible food I have ever had! I have had bad food and I've never left a review because I understand that this is someone's livelihood. However this place was terrible! When I was asked if everything was ok and I responded, No, no one asked why. Nothing was good not a thing! Everything was cold, chile rellenos were just cut peppers with slop and cheese thrown on top. The meat on my husband's tacos and my burrito was bad the meat was spoiled. This is the closet La Nop to my house so I visit often. It is a larger building and seats many. It has private rooms for parties and a long bar for those Happy hours. The parking is hard as it is always packed out but worth the struggle. The chips and salsa flow freely and the service is quick. This was my first visit to this location of La Nopalera, random Thursday lunch with two girlie friends! Physical location wise it is a stand alone building with plenty of parking centrally located in Orange Park... the aesthetics are consistent with most every other location, light, bright, full of Mexican motif... I will say that the bar area seemed to be popular, and there were several people dining solo that seemed quite comfy up there! The menu is also consistent with every other La Nopalera menu in town, and the food was pretty much on point. It did come out to the table with a quickness, what did not come with a quickness was our server. He seemed to be MIA anytime we had a need... we were in no apparent hurry as we were having lunch and margaritas, however if we were on some type of a lunch break our servers lack of urgency definitely would have been an issue... Went here for the first time on a busy Friday night. The wait wasn't too bad. Prices are reasonable. Service was okay. Our server checked on us often. Food portions were great. I ordered the "Special dinner" and it was A LOT of food (it came on two plates). It had rice, beans, tamale, enchilada, taco, and Chile relleno. The food wasn't extraordinary but it wasn't bad either. Nothing stood out and wow-ed me with their food. The taco was pretty plain. I was really craving tamale and my craving was satisfied. The Chile relleno was salty. We also had the fried ice cream and it was okay, it wasn't as crunchy as I like. So why does this place get two stars??? THEY SEEVED OUR DRINKS IN DIRTY CUPS! There was food floating in our drinks, it was very noticeable so I highly doubt our server (or whoever made our drinks) did not notice.
