Haven't been to a place like this before. The tiny parking lot and building facade are deceptive. When you walk in, it feels as if you've walked into a covered backyard patio of a Mexican family. Music, patio furniture, the works. The menu is the normal mix of Spanish and English, but I did not have any difficulty figuring it out. Out of the recomendation of a friend, I tried the Gordo taco and the shrimp taco as well as some horchata. The Gordo taco was big. I wasn't quite sure how to eat it and didn't even put anything else other than salsa on top of it. Immediately I noticed an excessive amount of onions and found myself picking some out to try and decrease the size of this thing. The marlin meat was interesting - tough, compact, and strangely spicey. It's a bit drier than other fish, so having salsa with it ended up being a good idea. My overall feelings towards this taco were honestly: Interesting, but meh. The shrimp taco, although simple, was a different story. There was a decent amount of battered shrimp on this bad boy and the flavor was overall juicy and wonderful. I really wanted more and regretted eating this before the gordo. I'll be back for this taco. Price is a bit more than you would pay for at a normal taco place, but I felt the quality and selection justified the price. Always good!! Fish tastes great and even though it's fried, it's not very heavy. Each taco order is enough for two tacos. It comes with 4-5 fish pieces and 2 tortillas, so my husband and I always get 4 taco orders, which is then 8 tacos. He eats 5, and I eat 3, and that's a good meal for me! Service is good and pretty fast. If you need something like a refill of a sauce bottle or the side sink turned on, just ask them. The aguas Fresca or something like that is my favorite drink. It's like squirt if you know that soda. It's like grapefruit-ish. Anyway, delicious, and as long as you can take the heat, eat there and enjoy or bring it home. If you eat there, make sure you wash your hands before you get there because there's a sink but no soap or paper towels. Go try! You'll love it =] Btw. My stop on the way back from the airport if they are open each time. This time I had my sister and a niece who had just returned from living in Vietnam and was missing her share of Mexican food so I had to take them. We got the last parking spot. A crowd is a good sign when it comes to food and Taco Fish is an example of that. We ordered two Gordo each, a ceviche to sample and for my husband who has recently developed an allergy to shrimp two Merlin tacos. Everything came out quick and they gave us samples of the soup broth which also had stingray. Something I had never had but it's was delicious and we were very lucky to have been able to try. Drove past it, went back around. Walked in, nobody at the counter - somebody got the girl for us. Asked her, "So, what do I want?" She shrugged and said, "I don't know". It's called Taco Fish, so, following Unca Jim-Jim's law (if you got to a place named "Jim's Burgers, you order the Jim Burger"), I ordered a taco de pescado and, on a whim, a taco de cameron, and a Mexican Coke. This is really my second review of Taco Fish, but first for this location. Like I said for the truck one on Stone, BEST FISH TACO and BEST SHRIMP in Tucson. Its made so simple and you add the condiments as you please. All the sauces are wonderful. My bf and I make sure we get a fish and shrimp taco each. We share the ceviche and anything else we feel like getting for the day. This place is built really funny. Its like a permanently covered patio dining area. So its like they bought the building and it was only big enough to put a kitchen in it. So they place patio chairs outside and built a huge wall to make it look like they extended the building but once you walk into the restaurant its still open-ish in the back area. This Taco Fish restaurant is awesome and amazing at what they do, which is to serve great Fish Tacos! We love coming here and look forward to it all the time, yes- all the time. The fish and Shrimp are fried to PERFECTION in the batter and the Corn Tortillas are fresh local hand made! Is a order counte, granite table tops, a sink in the corner and no back wall. Also parking is limited and tight. Food- simple and amazing. Simply the best fish taco in Tucson. There is only a few items on the menu; fish, shrimp, chili relleno ( not the stuffed,fried kind) and Marlin. You can combine the various items in a taco or a quesadilla. Found the TacoFish truck while driving down grant. It was around 10am and we were hungry so we stopped to give it a try. I ordered a fish taco and a taco gordo. The fish was really crispy and they do not skimp on the fish. You can make two tacos out of one since they come with two tortillas. The taco gordo was just that "gordo", it had fish,shrimp, & marlin. It was big but so good. My husband ordered a tostada de ceviche and the caldo bichi, which were both good. The lemonade was also very good. They also have a salsa bar that includes cream and chipotle sauce for your tacos. The girl that's takes the orders was not very friendly, but you don't have to deal with her much. I arrive at the location and there are several food trucks. Each with white ez up tents. It took me a moment to find the fish taco. BTW it's the one with no discernible advertising. The truck has a simple menu and pictures to help your decision making. I chose a marlin chile taco, a cahuamanta taco (manta ray and shrimp) plus a viche shrimp soup. After you place your order you sit and wait until its ready. The call out for my soup! "Sopa bichi" I get my soup and grab some limes, just in case. The soup is a beautiful chile red. With spices in the broth. I attack with my spoon! And come up with a beautiful pink wish shrimp! Wish, because you wish there were more! There were about four in the cup of soup. And not much more. I swam the spoon around looking for other items. Then realized... It's bichi soup! Naked soup! It was tasty. And lived up to its name! LOL The first taco ready was the marlin chile taco. It was loaded with marlin, onions, potato and on a double corn tortilla. Which was needed to hold the mountainous serving. I added some cabbage slaw and salsa mayo. For a championship bite! And was it ever! It was so much filling it was falling out of the taco. To my surprise there was a bit of crema in the middle of the taco. Then the call for my cahuamanta taco. Again loaded with filling. It had shrimp, manta, pickled carrots and grilled onions on a double corn tortilla. I added some salsa fresca and slaw. This was another winner. The restaurant is near the VA hospital. Its remote and next to the insurance office. It could easily be missed if not pay attention closely. the Shrimp and Fish tacos are $3 each. This place is tucked away from the road with a non-descript sign. I drove right past it and had to turn around and drive back to finally find it, but so glad I did! Both the fish and the shrimp tacos here were outstanding. As good as the best I had just eaten down in southern Baja. Portions tip towards the large side, so 2 tacos with 3 tortillas was enough to make myself 3 hearty tacos thanks to the serve-yourself toppings bar. Loved the cole slaw-style shredded cabbage and sauce, and the chipotle sauce was excellent as well. To complete the experience, they also had excellent Limonada with mineral water-- just like being back in Mexico! While most great fish taco places are often food trucks or corner street stands, this particular location offers a nice indoor setting with granite tabletops and comfortable seating. Was a little sad to see that the prices went up a little bit to $3 per fish taco (thanks minimum wage increase/Donald Trump) but ordered two anyway.. only to find myself completely happy with the price inflation because they now put way more fish than before. Previously used to come with 2-3 pieces of flaky, crispy, buttery fried fish but now had like 4-5, leaving barely enough room for my condiments. I asked for an extra plate, took one of the tortillas from the stack of two, made 3 tacos out of it, and loaded them up to my usual divine perfection. Good seafood restaurant on the corner of Irvington & 12th st. Next to premier auto. It's easy to miss, so go slow when you're close by. We came here on a Friday at 11:45am for lunch & left around 12:15pm. The line was short but grew longer as we ate our food & the rush hour crowd came in. The line curved around the restaurant about 15 people long. There's ample seating close to a dozen tables inside. The tacos were amazing, I ordered two of the campechano (shrimp & fish) tacos, which was battered & fried. They came on a good size tortilla for $3 each. I also ordered an Horchata for $2. My friend ordered a small cocktail combinado (octopus & shrimp) which came in a medium size cocktail bowl. It was about $12 & he said it's only Good enough for one person. No sharing for this one. It has 3 sets of crackers on the side & he ordered the same $2 drink. The temperature of be restaurant was fine unlike other reviews that said it was hot, we felt fine. The outside temp is 60, so maybe they came when it was hotter. The restroom is located in the front of the restaurant and it was clean, has enough t.p., paper towels & hot water. It also smelled like lavender fabuloso which reminded me of an authentic Mexican restaurant. Parking was okay but seemed small, we came in a smart car so, some bigger trucks might want to be careful when you arrive. There were lots of families eating & kids too. The music wasn't too loud. Been there a few times. The times we went it was really hard to dine in as mosquitoes got the best of us making it hard to enjoy. We stopped at Taco fish in the middle of our taco crawl. They are located on a food truck in a parking lot on Grant and 6th. They blow their next door neighbors out of the water with the amount of business they receive. They don't make Carne asada tacos, but we added them to the list because of their fish and shrimp taco reputation. They specialize in Marlin, Stingray, shrimp, another fried fish and tostadas de ceviche de camaron (shrimp) The Shrimp tacos at Taco fish were incredible. You are handed two corn tortillas with 5 large shrimp on them. There is a toppings bar in the middle of the tent and you can load them up to your hearts desire. The shrimp were so big, that I split the tortillas at made two tacos from one. We also had the tostada de ceviche de camaron (shrimp) at $4 and once again Taco Fish doesn't skimp on the portion size. I asked for mine to go after realizing how large they would be, and worrying about my tostada being soggy when I got back to finishing it. The ceviche was placed in a 16oz cup and was filled to the shrimp with shriimp, pico mixture. The homemade tostadas were placed on top wrapped in foil. The lady behind the counter handed me a plate and told me to grab my toppings and she would wrap them up for me. What service! At the toppings bar i chose, the special avocado sauce and slaw as well as the pickled red onions. I skipped the pico de gallo, because I didn't want the flavors to overwhelm the shrimp tacos, and I had some in my ceviche. I also grabbed some chipotle mayo, and a few limes. Taco Fish was at the top of the list of places to stop while in Tucson. The flavors were good, the food was a good value and the service is incredible. They even have a sink for you to wash your hands on the side of the truck. If you are looking for a clean food truck, to start your food truck adventures, start with Taco Fish. This place is reliable and super tasty. They are consistent in quality and preparation. I've tried a few items now and feel comfortable, pleased even, to give them 5 stars. They have fried food and "clean" food, cheesy food and plenty of dishes without cheese. Their fried shrimp and fish and the marlin chili are the foundation to their menu. Most everything is built off those. The fried shrimp and fish are always good, with a nicely weighted, crispy batter. I have two favorites here. 1. The Chili Cheese Taco is fried shrimp over a hash of guerrito chilis and cheese on 2 corn tortillas. A lot of cheese compared to most tacos, but it is the perfect amount here. 2. The Taco Gordo is fried shrimp and fish over the amazing marlin chili on 2 corn tortillas. The marlin chili is like a fish stew for lack of a better description. It has a red base, lots of onion, peppers and chilis. The way the veg combines with the marlin is perfect. I AM NOT A FAN OF FISH!!! But I AM CRAZY ABOUT THIS CHILI!! The Tostada de Ceviche is also winning. Little shrimps cut up into what is basically a robust pico de gallo, but a really tasty, light dish, and a great value at $4.50. The tacos are $3-3.50, which is a little pricey for some at a taco stand, but again the value is there. The fixin's bar just covers the basics, but the food is so good that I barely use it anyway. You have to admire the simplicity of Taco Fish. As you may have guessed from the name, Taco Fish pretty much does one thing, but they do it extraordinarily well. If you have a hankering for cheap, delicious mexican seafood served out of a food truck, then Taco Fish is the place for you. Despite the narrow focus, the menu actual has several excellent options. If you want a classic fried fish taco, you'll get 3 or 4 nuggets of beautifully fried, moist fish on a corn tortilla for $2.50. Then, bring that sucker over to the condiment bar and load it up with cabbage, onions, pico de gallo, lime, and a few delicious crema sauces. By the time you're done with it, it'll have been transformed into a massive pile of tastiness. If you're not in the mood for fried fish, I'd also highly recommended the tacos de marlin de chile relleno, a spicy marlin taco with huge flavor and (presumably) fewer calories. Another can't miss option is the Shrimp Ceviche Tostada. The acidity of dish is balanced better than most high-end ceviche that you'd spend 3 or 4 times as much for. Though Taco Fish is just a trailer, they do have 5 or 6 tables set up under a tent, so it's usually not a problem to find a spot to sit. On a sunny day, you'd be hard pressed to find a better way to spend $5 on lunch. And if by chance you show up and find that Taco Fish has already closed shop, walk across the lot to the also excellent D's Island Grill for great Jamaican food. read more
