Had a great time seeing The Decemberists at Tabernacle two nights in a row!!! The venue is GORGEOUS, church turned concert hall. I love how the main floor is slanted, so all the people in front of you are lower. Makes it so much easier to see in the back! The drinks and merch area is very spacious, and the bathrooms were really clean both nights. They have a food menu that has grilled cheese and curly fries on it. Kind sad I missed out on that. The drink selection is on the expensive side. I'd say stop at a local bar nearby before coming to a show if that's your thing. The sound was amazing, lighting looked great, and there was not a bad seat in the balcony or place to stand on the floor. Loved it! read more

A week ago today when I got to the theatre, my friend Amy mentioned that one of her relatives-in-law was in town for work and had offered her free passes to get into the Tabernacle to see The Black Keys and Dinosaur Jr. Are you KIDDING?! So after our show let out around 10, we headed over to the venue, a former church transformed into a different house of worship - supposedly a musical legend here in Atlanta. So excited. After braving some shady parking guys, talking to one of the local cops to be sure our car was safe, and witnessing a public act of urination, we uttered those famous words, "We're on the list", and followed Amy's cousin inside. Now, I love The Black Keys and can rarely afford to attend any kind of concert ("Yo ho, yo ho, an actor's life for me"), so I was already thrilled just to be hearing them pulsing through the walls and doorways. We went upstairs first for a drink. I asked about photography, and though I didn't take as many photos as I wanted to in order to not look like a complete idiot, I did snap a few fun ones. Our benefactor for the evening tossed down a couple of drink tickets, we grabbed a beer from the surprisingly cheery chick at the bar, and then filed on out and into front row of the balcony. Yep. The front row of the balcony. Quality. We had missed Dinosaur Jr., of course, because our own show ran so late into the concert, but what we saw of The Black Keys was spectacular (and I had forgotten how fantastic the feeling is when the music is so loud you can feel it in your blood). Prime place for photos, I tell you what, and I took a ton (a few of which I've uploaded for you). The crowd surfing was intense, my beer was actually good, and the enthusiastic people behind me cheered loudly and obnoxiously but at bearable and appropriate intervals (e.g. in between songs). The lighting was nothing short of amazing. I was thoroughly impressed by the show itself, by the bar staff, by the burly stage guards keeping the crazy surfers offstage. After the concert was over, I have never seen a place clear out so fast. As we were lucky enough to have VIP passes, we didn't have to leave right away and I was able to take some more great pics. The architecture in the place is beautiful, and the detailing everywhere is so colorful and rich, I couldn't stop staring (in between thanking our host and meeting a bunch of other random people). After a Makers & Ginger and a shot of something with pomegranate in it (mixed up by our new friend Christian, who aside from tending bar at the Tabernacle also builds habitats for my friends at Zoo Atlanta, how cool is THAT), Amy and I went backstage for a few minutes to, well, see what we could see. The multiple paintings on the walls of musical legends were phenomenal (I've uploaded Ma Rainey for your viewing pleasure), and I've always loved independent venues' clever ways of letting you know where the hell you're going (also uploaded). Even the staff backstage was friendly and helpful, guiding us to a bathroom and such, at which point I received a text message from my fiance, instructing me to "Have some rock star babies. Think of the child support!" We then headed out the back door, where people were loading things into a truck. Now, while I knew it would be fun to get to meet the Keys, I didn't expect it to happen, so as we walked away from the building, I was on my phone in the middle of telling my fiance we were leaving, and no, I wasn't going to be having any rock star babies but I'd had a lot of fun, and we walk by Dan, who tosses out a "Hi, ladies", which I don't respond to because it didn't even register that it was coming from DAN from THE BLACK KEYS. I told Patrick I would call him back and went to shake the man's hand. All in all, a fantastic experience: a beautiful venue, great music, good drinks, awesome photos, and a rock star handshake. This venue is aweome to see any concert in. I've been here a few times and I've never been disappointed. I've seen Staind twice (got drunk both times), Damien Rice (got drunk and cried during most of the show) and just the other night The Glitch Mob (no drinking this time).... And let me just say, after seeing a Dub Step/ Electronic concert at the Tabernacle my mind has been blown and that's why I bumped The Tabernacle to 5 stars instead of 4!!! After the show the other night... The Tabernacle has taught me louder is obviously better. I've left the Staind concert hard of hearing... but after The Glitch Mob concert.... even the silence was too loud!!! I was deaf for about 30 minutes and it was Great!!! I usually stayed at a hotel with a friend when going to a concert here but this time I was going solo so I payed for parking in the LAZ deck that's to the right of the Tabernacle (down the street a bit). I will never be use to traveling in downtown Atl, but with the help of a phone GPS even I could find the parking deck easily and get to the Tabernacle without getting turned around!!! I love the non smoking signs that are posted around the Tabernacle because once the main act is underway and everyone is up screaming and dancing.... It's an all smoking venue, but smoke doesn't bother me one bit, so I've no complaints... The weed doesn't bother me either, I'm there to enjoy the show and don't care what anyone else is doing as long as they don't bother me. I now enjoy sitting on the third floor that way I can see the crazy crowd below and a fantastic view of the stage. (The i-phone sucks at taking pictures from far away, but everyone knows that...). You can see moshing, fighting, crowd surfing, people throwing things, and just screaming crazy fans and I love every moment of it. That view is what makes the Tabernacle... spectacular!!! Now leaving the Tabernacle is another whole story... There are going to be obstacles (drunk/high fans, homeless people, people selling things, street musicians, etc etc etc) but unless you're with someone else, when alone walk fast and stop for nothing.... mama didn't raise no fool. So other than that...I just really enjoy this venue... It's not too big, it's not too small, it's just right... I'm always looking for a great show here and I can't wait until the next one!!!! read more

Venue is in an older building and can imagine being up top in hot weather. Was on second level an AC seemed intermittent. Do not get the "VIP". Not worth it at all. Pitched as way to avoid line at the bar but bar had a line when bars elsewhere were empty after getting drink and venturing down to seat. Also, the catering and deck we're completely underwhelming. Eat prior to your show. Everyone was friendly and I'd certainly attend another event at the venue. read more

Great music venue! Saw Sleater-Kinney here last night and I was impressed! Beautiful interior with several levels ( floor, reserved balcony and a open balcony above that) Each level had a lounge area with comfy couches and a bar area. Lots of space and easy to find a not crowded bar for a drink. Ordered a beer on draft and for bout 12 dollars, they are huge! Really more like 2 beers. Water was 5 dollars however and no tap option either, we found that to be a negative. Watched part of the show on the floor level and decided to sit in 3rd balcony for end of show, perfect bird eye view of stage and very comfortable. Great place to see a show! read more

HOT!!! I went to the Tabernacle for the first time in June of 2015, it was HOT. My husband and I chose standing room only, as expected it was crowded, with tall people not caring that they are standing right in front of short people. But you know if you try to get in front of them you will just be in a thicker crowd and HOT er. Thankfully the energy of the crowd was great and that helped with the momentum to keep dancing even though we were HOT. I wonder if the Tabernacle has a basement.... I hope not. The whole floor moves when the crowd starts jumping. Maybe the wood was expanding more so because it was so HOT. Next time I go, I plan to wear very comfortable shoes, throw my hair up in a ponytail and be scantily clad, because it was HOT. Did I mention it was HOT ?!? read more

In my humble opinion, simply the best place in Atlanta to see a rock and roll show Fully immersed in the fan experience inches from the stage. Put your hands is the air and catch a guitar pic, a drum stick, I high five from the lead singer of yuour favorite band. A few years back I was there when Dave Grohl walked across the side bar right in front of me with his guitar, Alice in Chains last year, and more recently The Cult 20 year celebration of the release of Electric and Thirty Seconds to Mars recent show. Up close and personal, in your face! That how I like my live music, and this is the place! One caveat: if you are short get their early or pay up to get a preferred balcony seat if available. First time at the Tabernacle to see the sold out 'Weird Al' show and I was really impressed with this venue. It's small and like I've read other folks, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. There are bars, EVERYWHERE, in every nook and cranny. We never had to wait in line for restrooms or drinks ;) The parking situation was fantastic! We had participated in bar service, the drinks and limited bar menu were okay. We needed a little nourishment and hydration and were check/check on both. ARRRGGGH, this venue, like all the other venues in Atlanta take your water bottle cap. I'm going to bring a pocket full of caps the next time I go to a concert! This is my favorite venue in all of Atlanta. it's old as hell, but cool as hell. I like to sit in the lower balcony to the sides of the stage. That way, when the music gets going, you can look onto the whole crowd and see everybody moving to the music. Beers are overpriced and downtown sucks, but when you get inside the Tabby, you forget about all of that. Pretty Lights rocked this place harder than anyone else I have seen. I went here to see Sinbad. This was my 2nd time here( first time I saw Chappelle some years ago ). The show was great and I got my money worth. I am always impressed with the ease of movement in this establishment. My only complaint, we sat in the floor seats, they had us packed in like cattle! For real... they were regular chairs, they could have spaced them out at least 2inches on each side! Other than that it was great! read more

We went for the Paramore show. It's a beautiful venue! However we purchased tickets for the VIP the Room and on the Tabernacles website under the Room tab it states that there is a dedicated separate entrance. When we arrived we called SEVERAL times with no answer and a gate was up at the separate entrance and an extremely rude woman came out after hitting the call button and told us that it wasn't available for the event she then proceeded to tell us that it said on the website and it CLEARLY did not as we were able to purchase tickets and went back several times to see if we missed something. We didn't. The Tab knows what they are doing with this and should've put on there that it differs from events. This was absolutely ridiculous and we were out of 120$ because they don't do refunds. The Tabernacle started out life as a church - hence the name. Somewhere along the name it was a House of Blues - hence the ecclectic decor, which is a kind of voodoo-meets-Keith Haring. This is an interesting venue; we came here for a private party put on by SOE for Fan Faire in April 2006. The upstairs space has a really nice stage, with standing room and two large bars on the main floor, and limited seating up on the balcony. Good gracious, is this place *LOUD* however; if you want to talk to your friends or your date, forget it. Their operating mode seems to be "if your eardrums don't break, then we're not loud enough". Downstairs is another, smaller stage and a small bar, as well as the bathrooms. For the party we attended, the basement was packed - the attendees seemed to like the Metalsome Mondays live rock kareoke better than the bands upstairs. (I felt bad for the bands upstairs, they were rockin' their hearts out and sounded great, but almost nobody was watching them!) Great venue for a private party. My only complaint was that they emptied us out at midnight instead of 1am - not sure the exact reason, whether it was a noise complaint or what. Walking distance to a lot of the downtown hotels. Alcohol prices were ok - made me thankful I'm not much for drinking. And it gets HOT inside. Dress to be cool temperature-wise, and let the dress-to-impress vibe be secondary. read more

What a great space! Saturday night was my first time at this venue, my boyfriend and I came for a concert. The Tabernacle is huge, I think the attendant told us there were four or maybe five floors. There's a ton of general admission standing space and there's also a balcony with a decent number of seats. It's a really cool space with colorful molding, painted walls, and even a chandelier. There are also a ton of bars, like a ton! We only really explored two floors (the first floor cause bathrooms and the second because that's where the main stage is) and we noticed at least two if not three bars on each floor. Those first floor bathrooms were the only ones we saw though and while they were pretty large, for a venue this big, I hope there are more restrooms. Also, unrelated to the venue itself, but you should consider the area when coming down here. It is downtown so expect all of the parking and dining issues that come with that. We parked in the LAZ garage which had $15 event parking. I think they may have some kind of agreement with the Tabernacle. It took us quite a while and a lot of walking to find a restaurant that did not have a 30+ minute wait. Come early and plan ahead! read more

Very nice employees but not handicap friendly at all! No elevator and woman in wheelchair had to be transported by a crane! CRazY! Many many stairs. This facility needs to be disabled friendly. My son with CP would never ever make it. My broke leg still gives me trouble and employees very nice but handicap section is on far side and hard to see the show and uncomfortable seats. Being here a second time for the Red Bull Throw Down event, I still have the warm and fuzzy feelings for this place. The Tabernacle just gives off such a historical vibe. Even though this was a break dance competition, sitting there in the dim lighting with the dark oak pillars (or some historic wood) gives off a welcoming and homely feeling. Yeah. It sounds odd, but it does. Some older venues are just old looking, but this place ages well. Lol. Again, the Tabernacle has many levels. When you enter, heading straight would leave you at the basement level. Moving up one floor gets you to the main stage area. And moving up another level gets you to the balcony level overlooking the stage. There are many other levels with its own private rooms, but these floors do not give you access to the stage. Parking was plentiful. There's an open lot right next to this place or the parking deck that's also next door. The rate for the open lot for this particular event was $30. Seriously. We checked even after another couple told us the price. We ended up going to the deck--$10. I don't particularly like this deck because it was so cramped. It's like Cali parking spaces where they try to converse space. :\ But you do get a good view of the ferris wheel. It's so pretty at night when it's lit up. read more

I have been here for a few shows and I must say that the acoustics and setup of this place makes it a very cool venue. Its nice to have the option in a GA show to sit up top or go down on the floor. That being said the bouncer staff here are usually turbo assholes, the guys manning the "Fire Exit Lane" will flash a light at anyone standing there for more then a second and disrupt the show. They will also take it upon themselves to push you out of the way. Even though I've never heard of a lane for people to walk that leads to the stage at a concert, i'm sure it could be executed better. read more

The Tabernacle is a former house of worship turned concert venue. Local and national musicians and bands from various genres play at The Tabernacle. General admission standing room only is available as well as balcony and lounge seating. The Tabernacle is like no other venue with towering somewhat decorative walls and ceiling similar to what you would find in an old church. At the same time it feels abandoned and ragged. While The Tabernacle is not aesthetically appealing, the acoustics are beyond superior. I went to a few concerts there and really felt connected with the artists. The Tabernacle is so intimate that true musicians are more than appreciated. Fraudulent and talent less musicians will definitely be found out at The Tabernacle. Super eccentric venue. I guess it used to be a church? Best part was the character this venue had. Stained glass, weird paintings, looked as though it had some restored original decor from long ago. Second best part was there were bars everywhere, so getting a drink wasn't a long line like most small venues. Never made it up to the 2 balconies with seats, but they looked pretty limited. Can be more pro-active w/ Sound Quality of guest artists, some terrible seats that should be given a special qualifier and discount price when being sold. Good points - Beautiful historic venue, Super friendly staff, lots of bars. Details on negatives - Their are four levels. The top two levels (where most of the seats are had a very different sound quality than the bottom two - the guest artist sound board engineers need to be told to take extra care and to really test that out. I was seated on level 3 - vocals were obliterated there but as you went lower they improved. ALSO - RAILINGS and/or LIGHT & LIGHTING Ops BLOCKED VIEW of performers - those tickets need to indicate that and be offered to discounted price - as they do at THE FOX THEATER. read more
