In my personal experience, my first and only experience... the acoustics for vocals in this place are garbage. I literally couldn't make out any of the vocals and I moved around trying to find space where I could really hear them. I used to love going to see shows at the Tabernacle. It was one of the best venues in town at one time. Not anymore. Horrible overall experience. Security was unnecessarily rude with everyone before going in. Once inside I ordered 2 drinks (Vodka Tonic and a Vodka Soda).. it was $46 plus tip for that. Insane. The show we were at was general admission on the floor and otherwise reserved seats. When we tried to go on the floor to see one of the opening bands, We were not allowed since we had reserved seats. And the floor was basically empty at that time. I have never in 30+ years going to concerts seen where people with reserved seats could not also go into the General Admission area. Unnecessarily Rude security, Rude Staff, Grossly overpriced Drinks, Overly restrictive rules that make no sense and generally just a bad experience. The Bands were great. The Venue sucked. read more

Over the Labor Day weekend I bought me and my bf tickets to see the comedian Desi Banks live in concert. This was my first time going to the venue so I definitely had high hopes going to the venue. Please be advised it's best to wear comfortable seats if you're up in the 200/300 and 400 section. In order to get our seats, we had to walk up several flights of stairs. Also, the seats are a little tight and it can definitely get very hot up there. One thing I realized is that the restroom is all the way down to the lowest level of the venue. If you're planning on getting super wasted then be prepared to hike/walk up all the stairs which can be intense cardio for you. It took about a good 30 minutes to get into the venue. There was a long line wrapped across the building and finding parking was difficult even when you pay for parking beforehand. Wild, I know. If you are going to any event coming up, please make sure you get well ahead of time. Overall the venue was nice just keep in mind to being your most comfortable shoes. read more

The Tabernacle is not very accessible. My friend has a walker and had to take a very old slow elevator to get to the main floor (which didn't work after the show so they had to find someone to take us out the back door). Before we got in the building though they sent us to the front of the line so they could lead us to ADA seating and the security person there seemed annoyed that we were even asking. There is also no water fountain on the main floor, so I asked a bartender downstairs for a disposable plastic cup to fill up water from the fountain, and they got mad at me for asking (even after explaining my friend physically could not make it to get the free water they told me it was an inventory issue to let me have it). Upstairs they did resolve this issue after I explained it's ableist for only those that can get down the stairs to have access to free water. Also if my friend needed to use the bathroom they had to have someone escort them to the back. If you want merch and are disabled you have to have a friend who can go down the stairs as well. Additionally, the security guard in ADA seating waited 20 minutes to clean up vomit that we told him about and got mad when we reminded him we needed it cleaned up because it smelled so bad. They also do not give wristbands for ADA seating, so I told him before the show started like "hey just letting you see my face so you know I'm meant to be over here" before I walked downstairs. He looked at me like I was an idiot for telling him this even though I thought I was making his job easier. The nicest employee of the night by far was Brett who was scanning tickets and answering general questions as people walked in. He deserves a raise and was the kindest person we encountered all night as he answered any questions we had and helped get my friend water. I hope the security staff is trained on how to better treat disabled people and the building desperately needs renovations. read more

This has to be the coolest venue in Live Nation's portfolio! I'm not sure how old it is but it feels like an antique, just oozing character and charm. If these walls could talk, I bet they'd have some amazing stories. We saw Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals from the front row of the lower balcony. Our view was amazing and I enjoyed being able to sit or stand whenever I felt like it. I'm way too old for general admission, floor shenanigans. They have a bar that serves some food in the basement. Bars on every floor seem to have a different beer selection, so if you don't see anything you love on one level, just meander up or down a floor to see what else they have on draft before investing $12 for a beer you're not crazy about. My only complaint is that acoustics weren't the best -- I think because we were behind the speakers. It won't deter me from coming back for future shows, I'll just choose my seats a little more wisely now that I know. I can't believe I never reviewed Tabernacle! I love this venue. So much charm, beauty, and history. It was a church from the early 1900's and then turned into a house of blues. It's definitely an Atlanta landmark. I've seen some of my favorite shows here- Prince, Justin Timberlake, Matisyahu, Pharrell, etc. Also came last night to watch Ali Wong's comedy show. There isn't a bad seat in the house at the Tabernacle. It's an intimate venue with 3 viewing levels. The acoustic is great too inside. They also have several drink stations throughout the venue. Note- they have to take off the caps on the water bottles here so drink up. The only downfall I could think of us is that there are no elevators and tons of stairs so plan accordingly. If you don't want to climb a lot of stairs I would suggest getting seats on the main floor or second floor. The seats on the second balcony (3rd level) I feel has very good view of the stage but the seats are pretty close from row to row. There isn't a lot of legroom but I think that's probably one of the best views in the venue if you're sitting in the middle. If you sit on the main floor your neck would definitely hurt because you would have to look up. If you haven't seen a show here, I highly recommend it! I hope they never go away. I hope they will alway maintain the history of the interior. read more

Expensive for horrble, narrow folding chairs ziptied together for seats. Chairs were hard with funky placement of backs that left us all with backaches, and so narrow the whole time you were touching the person on either side of you. Gross. The woman on my right smelled like old alchohol and laughed like a hyena, all the while jiggling my arm and leg. Pretty much ruined the show for us and took us a day to recover from. The place is filthy as well with broken rails and uneven floors. Ridiculously expensive flat soda and warm water topped the night off. This was my first time visiting the Tabernacle to see Kes Live. As an BLACK American born woman who truly loves & appreciates Soca music for the CULTURE & POSITIVE ENERGY it instills in MY life, I must say, the service by security staff could have DEFINITELY been better. Kes is one of my FAVORITE Soca Artists! The security however, totally ruined the experience! Outside of the bar tenders & attendants at each level of the venue, the security AT THE DOOR WAS EXTREMELY RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL. Upon entering, I was immediately singled out, scanned from head to toe with a detector( which was done to no other person around me). I was stopped TWICE literally to be scanned with a detector as if they didn't scan correctly the 1st time. I was THEN asked to remove my hat so they could check that as if I was bringing in unwarranted items into the venue. Was that not covered in the two scans previously done to single me out??? NO ONE ELSE was asked to stop & singled out like this. NO ONE!!! After that, a black woman working security had the nerve to smartly comment to me, "Thank you for your patience." To her, I'd like to say: Ma'am kick rocks respectfully. Upon LEAVING, I was literally harassed over carrying an EMPTY PLASTIC CUP outside of the venue. A PLASTIC FREAKING EMPTY CUP! Please bare in mind that I WAS TOLD BY ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER THAT THE CUP WAS ALLOWED TO BE TAKEN HOME. This OTHER rude black woman working security proceeded to tell me that the cup had to be disposed of (which I had no issue with) UNTIL I mentioned to her that another member of staff had told me otherwise. My issue came when this rude woman chose to comment out of her mouth that " No one told me that" as if she was with me the entire evening & heard every conversation that was had with me throughout the night. first time in Atlanta in over a decade and attended my first MomoCon anime convention over at the GWCC. they partnered with Tabernacle to put on a fantastic 6 hour rave with some amazing food and drinks as well! It's an equally cozy but also pretty open venue that looked like it had 3 or 4 levels in it and can hold a LOT of people. A lot of places where I'm from in Nashville can be too crowded, making it not very enjoyable for everyone involved. also a very beautiful building. I love these kinds of old buildings properly preserved for good purpose. Drinks are actually somewhat reasonable too, again not as expensive as some venues like Bridgestone Arena or the Ryman in Nashville but still will drain a hole in your wallet. If there was a band/performance that I was absolutely dying to see in Atlanta, I would absolutely come here just for the show. read more

Wife and I came here to watch Ali Wong in concert. They requested we not use our phones during the concert so we had to out them in pouches that were locked... no problem! The venue itself a little older, but stands up to the test of time. They have bars on every floor and even a craft brewery room. The sound of the concert was spot-on. I've heard it could be muffled during some concerts, but this particular show went on without a hitch. My only gripe with this place is that the balcony seating stairs are a little sketchy. They're actually pretty steep, so just be aware of that when choosing your seating assignments. read more

All staff was rude from entrance to leaving! Girlfriend was told going in purse was too big after checking it and the woman had an attitude. Employee told us and everyone else we co dance in a certain area because of a fire hazard but others didn't abide by that and he threatened me. One female bartender had an attitude after She told me she would'nt ring up the transaction until I paid because that Was her rules which I went to and used other bartenders that rang up transactions and didn't require it being paid for before hand. Also was leaving the venue with empty cups and cups were grabbed out of my hand and was told I couldn't leave with alhocol. One of my favorite venues in Atlanta, for sure. Plenty of parking in the area, as long as there aren't too many events going on because you are really located in the touristy area in Atlanta (near Centennial Olympic Park, Aquarium, Philips Arena, etc.) Lots of parking decks, but I recommend Uber/Lyft for ease and safety if you're planning on drinking! The building itself has so much character because it was an old Baptist church that was built in the early 1900s. It didn't become a music venue until the '90s, first serving as the House of Blues and getting lots of great acts when the Olympics came to Atlanta in '96. These days, Live Nation is running the show and they bring some of the greatest acts to perform among these hundred year old walls. The walls are painted with funky designs throughout, including the ceiling in the main room. Makes for a cool vibe, because although not original decor it certainly makes you feel like you're hanging out in a place full of history and stories to tell. A big chandelier hangs in the middle of the venue and often bands will include other fun elements to play on the height of the ceiling. They recently updated the VIP area on the second floor (called The Room). The room has a private entrance, bar and restrooms which elevates the experience. They also have a live streaming of the show so if you're grabbing a drink you don't have to miss out on the action! You also have access to a private patio which offers a view of the ferris wheel and a unique view of our fantastic Atlanta skyline. The acoustics here are just beyond. Every single show I've seen has had stellar sound and you can't find a bad seat in the venue. Whether you're general admission on the floor or grabbing a seat on the balcony, you're going to be able to see the show and hear every note. You're also able to switch it up because the balcony is general admission, so if you want to watch the opening act up there and then move to the floor that's generally allowed (check your ticket of course, but this has been my experience more often than not). Sometimes they do have assigned seats on the middle balcony that accompanies the VIP experience, and if you can snag a seat on the first row of the balcony your head may literally explode of awesomeness. The view cannot be beat, unless you get there early enough to get on the first row of the floor. :) Bars. Bars, bars and more bars. Every floor has plenty of bars so you can get your fix. They have a solid beer list (cans) and most spirits. They run out of limes often, so you've been warned. Bathrooms - downstairs in the basement unless you're a) VIP or b) sneaky af and get into their VIP bathrooms on the second floor. Merch - also downstairs, between 2 bars (shocker). You can also get food but it's pretty limited. The chicken tenders are alright and if you didn't have time to grab dinner before a show, but you didn't really come here for the food, did you? Overall, I love this venue so much. Capacity is for less than 3k and some of the best acts sell out fast, but definitely an Atlanta classic experience. Pro tip: Park Bar is a block away and great for pre and post show libations and grub! read more

This place isn't huge so you'll be able to see from anywhere inside. They do standing concerts so arrive early. Be prepared to pay to park, as well. The lines take awhile to get in as they scan with metal detectors upon entry. The lighting was dark before the show and .y phone was dying so I didn't get great pics. We went to see NSP and TWRP and enjoyed ourselves. The floor isn't really elevated so if you're short, you need to manuveur to see, like myself. That part was unfortunate. Also, the concessions are outside the viewing and it's super hard to get to once you get in so get your beverages before the show. It was sold out when we went which means there is no room for you to move with the number of bodies on the audience floor. I advise also parking a little ways away to be able to leave after as it gets heavy traffic out there. And dinner options are a plenty around the area so don't limit your options! read more

Saw Ali Wong here! Located downtown, not the coolest part of Atlanta. Very quiet, spooky and not so hip haha. The venue itself was a very cool space! but I wasn't allowed to bring in my empty water bottle inside which was a bummer. I sat on the floor in section 104 R (very last rows) which was just all chairs. And in retrospect, the front mezzanine rows or the side balcony ones (but not too angled) would've been better. During the opener, there were very annoying tvs displaying bright ads that made it hard to even see the stage. Thank god they turned it off for the main show. read more

Cool place. Came here for the Jake Owen concert. Had general admission tickets which I was a little nervous about, but honestly they were the best tickets! Of course I was standing the entire time, which was fine. The floor is slanted a bit so you can see over the person in front of you. I was so incredibly close leading to a great experience. The acoustics were great as well - and Jake Owen was awesome - highly recommend. Had never been to this location before. When I came in I went to where the bathrooms were and found there were drink and food options there - kinda like a country bar vibe. I ended up getting a pork slider ($4) and diet soda ($5) which seemed pretty reasonable to me. They had beer, and mixed drinks as well. I almost purchased a large pretzel ($5) but waived off for the carbs. They had some other bar type food as well (pizza, chicken fingers, etc). The bathrooms were fine and plentiful. My only recommendation was to order a Lyft/Uber before the concert is over as I seemed to have to wait a long time for one after the show. Overall great experience and I would certainly come back - just planning my departure better. read more

Where else can you see a an experimental rock group, European electronic dance band, or hilarious comedian in the setting of an old church/hospital/nursing school founded by a pastor who was also a doctor? We have Dr. Leonard Gaston Broughton to salute for opening The Broughton Tabernacle in 1910. Much obliged, Dr. Broughton. The Tabernacle certainly doesn't lack for history, character, and uniqueness! Setup There are a lot of stairs/levels at this venue. The general admission main floor is my preferred place, but the upper balconies have seats which can be a blessing for the tired legs. A lot of colorful, whimsical paintings and doodles on the walls add some flavor to the surroundings. I'm not a sound guru but the acoustics have always seemed great to me, no matter when I've camped out. Tickets Ugh, prices keep rising. Curse you, Live Nation/Ticketmaster and your dumb fees from buying online. Coat Check From the website's FAQ: "The building does set up a coat check at times during inclement weather." Restrooms Head downstairs to use the bathrooms. There are tons of stalls so you probably won't have to wait. Security To be more TSA, they are now doing little pat downs of concertgoers. Not too thrilled about this. In general, at least the security and staffers are pretty pleasant and non-jerky. Parking MARTA is an option given the downtown location, but if there's a group of you going, it may make sense to carpool and find a cheap lot a brief walk away. I see people utilizing Uber/Lyft too. Final Thoughts In the end, all the various gripes I have about going to shows (ticket prices, standing around waiting endlessly, aching joints, personal space invasions, irksome fellow concertgoers) all seem to swiftly vanish when I fondly reminisce about the shows I've seen here. I think it's easy to let the event attended dictate the direction of the review. That being said, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators was amazing! Words can barely describe how great the event was. But, that being said, even before the event started, not related to the venue, there is great parking that surrounds the venue. Easy in and out after the event. Huge plus considering we were heading back to B'ham afterwards. Next up, the facility, I haven't gone to research the history of the place, but, classic theater! Love the construction and décor of this place. Very well laid out and easy access through security. Once you arrive, head down stairs to get merchandise and/or food and drinks. Then back up stairs to make your way into the theater area. First, if you get seats, there isn't a bad one on the house (at least from my vantage point on the floor. GA has a large area that has a plastic runner that extends down the right hand side of the stage (facing the stage). Security keeps this cleared off so that people can get in and out and access the bar on that side. Sound is really good in here too. Surprisingly it didn't sound that loud while we were there, then after we left and were gone a bit we realized how loud it actually was. Everything about this place was top notch related to attending a concert. Looking forward to coming back to see more events here. read more

A very cool venue. We came to see a show here during our stay in ATL and had a great time! We parked at a metered spot on the street nearby.

The management really needs to take some notes from the other venues in the area. They make you wait outside until an hour before the event. While you are standing on the safe sidewalks of Atlanta, the staff come by and are rude. Security is rude, Also do not think you can run to your car if you forget something, you can not come back. The security lady said "we have 2800 people in here, we can not let you come and go!" Venue is cool, but not worth dealing with the staff! read more

We love the artists that perform here. The place has a fun and eclectic vibe. Friendly service from staff. Clean bathrooms and water fountains on the lower level. Be sure to purchase a parking pass from one of the free apps from the adjacent parking decks. Things that annoy me include the miserable and tight seats on the balconies. I'm 5:10 and the seats are miserable and they smell awful. They need a good cleaning. I hate to sound like a grouchy old man but I just turned 50 and I want a comfortable seat with legroom. The place needs air conditioning that works. It never seems to get adequately cooled down. I leave every concert smelling like the dirty seat and kinda sweaty. Every concert ends with a shower on arrival at my home. Tabernacle, if you are reading this review, please charge a few more dollars and invest in decent seats and air conditioning. Came here for the first time ever to see Lizzo, who was just amazing. The set up of the venue was interesting. I liked the first floor area where the bars were along with the restroom. The details in the decorations were beautiful to look at. It was a large space and I liked how much seating there was. On the concert level, I liked that there were several bar locations as well. It was great to see that the bar area was clear so people could order drinks quickly. It did suck to need to go to the bathroom during the concert, because security would tell you the room was at full capacity. They offered for us to go upstairs but our friends were where we had just been in the main area so we had to wait until 2 people exited for us to take their place. That was a bit frustrating but I get it. Would definitely come back here, this place was really cool and there was plenty of parking close by. read more

I simply love the Tabernacle! The creative venue has served as a variety of things in its over 100 years. Just like the name implies, it used to be a baptist church back in the day and was even House of Blues location somewhere in the 1990s! The towering profile and initial impression upon entering this little big place get me in the feels every time I enter. Coming to a concert is like coming into a church sanctuary for me. Walking up those flight of old steps preps me and assures me that I am about to have an exhilarating, spiritual, and awesome music odyssey! Two of my favorite concerts so far have taken at this amazing spot. St. Vincent and Circa Survive put on outstanding shows here and I believe the location only enhanced the vibe and sound of the artists. Aside from the unique architecture integrity and cool history of the venue, the setup of services and amenities is impressive. The staff and security are always pleasant, there are ample mobile and stationary bars with your typical well drink and beer choices on each separate level (from the basement merchandise and bathroom area, main concert hall floor, and balcony area). I highly recommend checking out a show at the Tabernacle if you visit or live in the Atlanta area. It is a one of a kind experience that stays in the rich memory bank of music lovers and musicians like myself. I promise you will love it! read more

I adore small venues with character! This place has got it for sure. An old church that has been turned into a music venue, this is one of the best ways to make a venue. The space is open and wide and pretty good for acoustics. The hardwood is an awesome touch that gives a good earthy feel inside. I also adore standing room only venues because it just adds to a big party feel especially when everyone gets into it. If you get there early you are secured a GREAT spot, however, if you get there later...it's not hard to make your way up front. I like when I go see artists and they connect with the audience. This is a great type of place that allows artists to do so. The stage is basically within the crowd and it's awesome to see the connection. Also awesome when the band stay after - such a great venue to meet your favorite artists. The parking wasn't that bad and I remember the ticketing going fairly easy. I can't wait to get back and check out another concert...wish I could head here for a rave too, that would be tight! read more

A good mix of old school decor and charm gives this place a certain something, can't really describe it but it has to be experienced! The Tabernacle is a very intimate venue in Downtown Atlanta. They have a lower section that is where bathrooms and vendors are located during shows. I recently saw "The Internet" here and the sound systems were terrific and the entire place felt like it was shaking at moments from the energy of the place! I would avoid the bar unless you like paying $13 for a whiskey ginger! Bartender was whatever too. Just do drink before you come and take Uber/Lyft for convenience. We came to see D'Angelo on Sunday at the Tabernacle...it was awesome! The last time I saw him was at the Essence Music Festival in 2012 at the Superdome and this concert far surpassed that experience! We found free, on-street parking nearby on Cone Street (a block away) but probably only because it was Sunday. By the time we walked over to the venue there was a line down the sidewalk and around the corner. The line had two phases. About half a block back, the Live Nation crew were checking IDs and handing out alcohol wrist bands. Then, near the entrance, another team conducted security checks and scanned tickets before letting people into the building. Our seats were in the lower balcony near the top of the horseshoe. The fact that we didn't have a head-on view of the stage wasn't an issue. There was a TV monitor in our section that gave us a direct view. From that vantage point we could see a lot of random things during the show that the general admission crowd couldn't see. My favorite observation was the security guard crouched between the stage and the security fence waiting to Mutombo slap any overzealous fans. Thankfully, no one got out of hand. When D'Angelo and The Vanguard left the stage for a second time (there were multiple intermissions), the crowd assumed it was their last set. Swarms of people headed for the exits. Those of us in our section could still see two A/V guys sitting in a booth offstage so we stayed put. (If their services were no longer required they would have walked off too, right?) Sure enough, they returned a few minutes later to perform the final set. It was the lighters-in-the-air, undergarment throwing number. Some of the people who left early were probably bummed about missing it. There's no re-entry at the Tabernacle so once they walked out they definitely missed it. Just an example of the something you might pick up on depending on where you sit/stand. There were enough people in there to give it a concert feel--with frenzied crowd noise and throngs of hands in the air--but small enough to share energy between the artist and audience. D'Angelo couldn't have picked a better venue in town for showcasing his brand of funk-soul-rock music and the acoustics were good. I've been to concerts at local arenas and parks but after this experience, the Tabernacle will be my venue of choice. read more

Had a great time seeing The Decemberists at Tabernacle two nights in a row!!! The venue is GORGEOUS, church turned concert hall. I love how the main floor is slanted, so all the people in front of you are lower. Makes it so much easier to see in the back! The drinks and merch area is very spacious, and the bathrooms were really clean both nights. They have a food menu that has grilled cheese and curly fries on it. Kind sad I missed out on that. The drink selection is on the expensive side. I'd say stop at a local bar nearby before coming to a show if that's your thing. The sound was amazing, lighting looked great, and there was not a bad seat in the balcony or place to stand on the floor. Loved it! read more
