A great bar with awesome mixologist
Bill M.

We only stopped in for drinks but the drinks were amazing! Mikala(sp?) was mixing some great drinks and even talked me into trying a old fashioned made with a peanut butter flavored whiskey. It was delicious! Very laid back place with some really friendly people.

The flank steak classic dish... with beans/rice and tortillas. My niece LOVED it.

This was an excellent stop. We had purchased the Explorer's Passport at the vistor's center. It included a small discount at a couple restaurants so that brought us here. But discount aside, still an excellent stop. An excellent run flight for my spouse... a great gin and tonic for me using St. Augustine Distillery gin... and GREATFOOD. My spouse had amazing fish tacos, the guacamole we shared was well prepared... I had the big boy burrito with pork-- very good! My kiddos eliminated alll thebwxcelent ingredients from the burgers but even as basic burgers they were expertly prepared... and my one niece had steak soft tacos-- all looked excellent. Really... it was all great. Good service both from the bar and dining area and the food and drinks were all great!

Swordfish taco special

We picked this place for lunch because of my hubby's obsession with fish tacos. The Baja tacos looked amazing in the pictures. The outdoor seating was more appealing to us than the indoor. We had a view of the colonial quarter next door. Hubby order the grilled swordfish tacos which were a special. These were really good with the freshest grilled corn salsa. I ordere the Baja fish tacos. These were great except for the breading. They would be perfect grilled but because of the cilantro cream dressing and cabbage slaw, the breading lost its crispness. The beans on the side were tasty too.

Carne asada tacos

Lovely quaint place and good food. The place can get a little tight inside, but there is a large outdoor terrace. There is no fans outside however, so it gets way too hot outside on summer days. Ordered carne asada tacos. They were fantastic. The meat was fresh and really flavorful. Comes with a side of rice and beans which is a nice bonus. Downside is it only brings two tacos. Solid place to come eat while walking through the old town.

Carne asada and fish taco with rice and beans side

We came to St Augustine to see the Night of Lights and decided to get food on St. George Street and afternoon trying multiple restaurants with long waits, we stumbled into Taberna del Caballo. The wait staff greeted us and was super polite as we sat down immediately and received complimentary chips and salsa which was delicious and much needed! Our server was very polite and the wait time for our food was fairly short. I got the Cuban sandwich and my girlfriend got the mix and match tacos with Carne Asada and Fish as her choice. The Cuban was delectable with everything super hot, a great amount of mustard, pickle and mayo to cut the juiciness pork and the fries were a perfect side dish! The tacos were also really tasty with a great side dish of rice and beans. I was glad the other places were so busy so we found a gem like this!

Great great atmosphere with the pups. It was nice and shaded with a great ambiance. We sat down and started with street corn that comes on the Cobb and some Patatas Bravas. These are not your typical version of Patatas Bravas. They are more of French fries with lots of paprika and a dipping sauce. It was good, just not what I expected. The salad and fish was the best. Really fresh. The fish tacos were fabulous too. Not too much of a heavy breading and balanced with a good slaw. The streak tacos had crispy bacon in them which was really unique. My fiancé loved it. The refried beans were not our favorite but to be honest I have never had any I was thrilled with. Good time and they even brought water out for our three dogs. We had McKayla as a server and she was really friendly and sweet. And got our order right the first time :). Thanks girl! The drinks were pretty decent too. The bartender actually knew what a French 75 was so that is always a plus in my book. Overall great spot in St. Augustine, FL. Especially if you have pups.

I had a delicious whiskey sour here! We also ordered some raw oysters and conch fritters which were amazing as well. This place is so cozy and cute and the perfect place to stop in town.

We're visiting from NY ... and this place called St. Agustin is awesome. We stopped at this restaurant for dinner and let me tell you... we had wings with Guava BBQ sauce.. beer, cocktails, loaded nachos, Tapas, and for dessert we got this sweet plantains with caramel cinnamon sauce and vanilla ice cream on top OMG TO DIE FOR. I def recommend this place and if we have the chance to come back and visit again, we'll def come back to this restaurant.

I find myself stopping by here whenever I'm in St Augustine. I do like this place. I mainly go here for the bar. I love the sangría. It's very sweet, which I like. It's rustic and somewhat romantic. Unfortunately, the service is not always the best. They usually have Spanish music playing. Live music on the weekends. Picnic tables are the outside seating. I have tried a few items on their menu, and I have enjoyed all of them. But, the food is not the main reason why I come here, it's the ambiance.

Ophelia B.

Colton was our friendly bartender and server. The tapas plate we ordered was good. It was my first time enjoying tapas. The white sangria was delicious. A humble place with good food and service.

Caverna de Caballo, Saint Augustine November 16, 2018 Stopped by this place for a quick lunch. This place used to be something else but I don't remember. We were seated and the waitress came by to say hello and to take our drink order. We weren't really hungry so we ordered a beer, a lemonade and shared an appetizer. The waitress was really attentive. The place was really cool. However, the shared appetizer was not what's was listed on their menu but it was delicious. Not really expensive. Good service, great place, good prices. Would we go back again?? Yes!!

Loved the corn app. Found the cauliflower tacos to be dry & lacking something - the chili sauce helped. Next time I would ask for the fries and top them with the pork from the torta ahogado along with their chili sauce. Yum!

Upon checking out posted menu my husband and I decided to check out this restaurant, we had our choice of indoor or outdoor seating and chose outdoor. After being sat it took close to 15 minutes for server to come take our drink order. Our server Vanessa was nice enough but she had 2 tables with larger parties and my husband and I seemed to be forgettable as patrons. I ordered the Mexican Street Corn and was rather disappointed with it, besides not being very hot it was rather tasteless. I also had the Big Boy burrito, my husband had the Dirty Rice bowl. Both had okay flavor but arrived so quickly and were not very hot either, we imagine they were prepared earlier in the evening and then warm in microwave. The beverage prices of a bit high for soft drinks but other price were not that bad. We will probably not return.

We had made reservations ahead of time, and when we arrived, we were seated immediately. That set the tone right away, no waiting, no stress, just walking in and being welcomed like the day actually mattered, which of course it did to us. Our waiter, Elijah, was outstanding. He struck that perfect balance, attentive without hovering, always nearby when we needed something, but never interrupting the flow of our dinner. You can tell when someone takes real pride in their work, and that's exactly how he came across. It made a difference. For dinner, I ordered the Shrimp Salteado, and Cheryl had the Chicken Salteado. Both dishes were excellent, rich with flavor, perfectly cooked, and exactly what you want from the Columbia's Spanish-Cuban style. My shrimp was tender and well-seasoned, and Cheryl's chicken had that same depth of flavor that makes you slow down and really enjoy each bite. Nothing felt rushed, nothing felt off, just consistently great food from start to finish. What makes the experience even more meaningful is the history you're sitting inside. The Columbia isn't just another restaurant, it's part of Florida's story. It was founded in 1905 by Casimiro Hernandez Sr. in Ybor City and has grown into Florida's oldest continuously operated restaurant. Knowing that you're dining in a place with that kind of legacy, where generations of families have gathered for celebrations, adds something you can't really replicate anywhere else. As we sat there together, celebrating 31 years of marriage, it just felt right. The atmosphere, the service, the food, it all lined up with the moment. Everyone we encountered was attentive and genuinely kind, and that consistency is what turns a good dinner into a memorable one. For us, it wasn't just a meal. It was the kind of experience you hope for on an anniversary, one where you can relax, reflect, and just enjoy being together. And today, the Columbia delivered that perfectly.

The arepas were perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The beans were simultaneously simple and complex. The sauce that comes with them was a perfect match. We got off the trolley at Stop 20, National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, and were going to walk to the restaurant. Unbeknownst to us, there was no crosswalk to cross the busy Ponce de Leon boulevard. Mom isn't as spry as she once was so we didn't risk crossing without a crosswalk, so we had to walk another 1/4 or so to the nearest crosswalk then doubled back to the restaurant. Located in the The Ponce St. Augustine hotel, the restaurant is just to the left of the main doors. We had to wait a bit to get seated as the lone server had to clean a table first. Service was slow. I ordered the Bistec a Caballo (medium), my wife tried their Pork de Leon with fries and my mom opted for the Inca bowl. Did I say service was slow? Our orders weren't synched up. My order and my wife's sandwich were served first and we had to wait a few minutes before my mom's dish was served. My wife liked her sandwich and fries although she thought the shredded pork was a bit dry. My mom liked the flavors of her dish, with tender cuts of meat and smoky soy sauce flavor. The Bistec a Caballo had decent flavors BUT that steak was tough, even ordered medium. I felt like I was cutting through shoe leather cutting it with the serrated knife. Slow service and a tough steak bumped our rating down. We just couldn't overlook the quality and/or preparation of my steak, even with good flavors. Lunch for 3 came out to just over $67 with tip. Oh yeah, they add a surcharge for credit card payments.

My ceviche Classico was fresh, fragrant, and delicious. Pro tip: get the hot peppers on the side. The service was great. Thanks, Alondra. The star of this evening was the immersive and authentic atmosphere. I felt like I could be hanging out at a cafe in Peru. The lady at the bar and two waiters could clearly see us through the windows, yet instead of opening four minutes early, they simply watched us stand there in the rain. When they finally opened, we walked into an empty restaurant. We were literally the first customers there and the place was completely empty. We asked to be seated and were told by the hostess that reservations only were accepted. We then asked if we could at least sit at the bar and eat there, but she said the bar was only for people waiting and no food would be served there. What makes this even more frustrating is that when you drive by, there is nothing indicating reservations are required. We discovered the restaurant while passing through the area and were excited to try it. The flavors may be unique, but the attitude felt unnecessarily pretentious for a restaurant that should make more of an effort to accommodate walk ins, especially when the dining room was empty.
