SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Eggingtons 1660 E. Alma School Road Mesa, 85202 Companion and I have a ritual. Every time we have to go give blood for our doctors tests we go out for breakfast. We chose this establishment this time as we had been taken to breakfast here a number of years ago. Since I will never accept a free meal, I could not write about the previous visit since someone else paid for it. We were seated immediately and drink orders were taken. Companion had coffee and I asked for tea. Unfortunately, they have a large assortment of teas, but no Earl Grey. How unusual as almost every restaurant has Earl Grey available, so I had to settle for English Breakfast tea. The tea was good, but they don't have Splenda as a sweetener. Were they out of it I asked? No, they choose to carry Stevia (which I am allergic to) and Saccharin, which is bitter tasting to me along with sugar. So, as a diabetic I have no artificial sweetener that I can use. My tea remained plain. For breakfast companion ordered candied bacon and a caramel waffle. The candied bacon got a thumbs up but the caramel waffle got a thumbs down. Companion said that the waffle would never be ordered again with the caramel but might be ok plain. I ordered biscuits and gravy. As a reviewer who has done this for more than 20 years, I think I know exactly what biscuits and gravy should be like. The biscuits were undercooked and the gravy reminded me of wallpaper paste. Since the biscuits were inedible I scraped the gravy off the top and seasoned it heavily with pepper and salt to give it some flavor. An altogether terrible breakfast. I'd normally have sent this back for something else, but our server was nowhere to be found until the bill came. An item on the bill caught my eye. Coffee and tea are charged at $4.29. Having grown up when coffee was 10 cents I found this to be exorbitant. Even is some of the fanciest restaurants I have eaten in where the bill was over $300 I have never been charged this much for a cup of tea or a cup of coffee. The atmosphere was busy but a bit cramped and awkwardly laid out, and the overall experience felt disorganized at the start, though service improved once it finally kicked in. We had about a 15-minute wait to be seated, and then nearly another 15 minutes before anyone came to the table. In fact, I had to go back to the hostess stand to let them know no one had even greeted us yet. Our table placement was also odd -- tucked into what felt like an alleyway-type spot with poor seating. I ordered the Red Hot Mama Frittata, mainly for the chorizo, but it was difficult to find any real presence of it in the dish. Came for breakfast and tried their candied sweet and spice bacon omg was that so delicious probably my favorite thing. My best friend and I each got the eggs Benedict she got the farmer and I got the classic. And we shared both. One thing I noticed is the hollandaise sauce gets lost idk why I just did not really taste it and hollandaise sauce is one of my favorite things on a Benedict. Gotta drop it down a star. The 1st time I went the coffee was not good. I didn't hold it against them, it wasn't really high up on my priority list. But I went again today and both me and my wife noticed the coffee was terrible again. It tastes like, like weeks coffee mixed in with this week and they never cleaned the coffee makers, like ever. I'm not a coffee snob. I love diner coffee. But this is bad. Again the food was good. I had the fluffy krabby Benedict and it was delicious. My wife had the full mess and loved it. Our server arrived to our table immediately noted that she was told that it was our first time and "welcome!"This says a lot about the attentiveness of the staff at this location in Mesa. The coffee is good and OJ is served in a tall glass! Husband found finally found a place that has black olives for his omelette! The omelette is awesome. I saw some yelpers did not eat the potatoes and I was hesitant to try them because I thought they were dehydrated, but they are delicious with nice crisp edges and they were very well seasoned. Croquet Monsieur Had generous portions of ham and is well made. Having been to France and Paris, I was expecting the sauce to be on top, but found it underneath just on top of the generous portion of French bread. The sauce was tasty, but it would've liked more of it, but the amount was perfect for most peoples tastes. I think I'll ask for a little sauce on the side next time to pour over it!! This is my grandma's favorite breakfast place and that is probably the best way I can describe it. We went on a Saturday morning and it was pretty busy, but we were able to get a table for 5. The vibe is very old school, but it also looks like it has been recently updated. It looks like a breakfast place. Maybe this is just an Arizona thing, but it was 75% people over the age of 75. The menu has clear markings for vegetarian and gluten free dishes, which was very helpful. I ended up getting an egg and veggie skillet and it was great. They were also able to remove the bell peppers for me. Grandma loved her waffles and her smoothie had extra whipped cream. I will say, the water here is disgusting. None of us could stomach it, even the Arizona natives. Pretty standard breakfast experience in my opinion, but appreciated the diverse menu. read more

I was celebrating my birthday at a Hilton hotel near Golfland. I wanted to get breakfast somewhere and T. C. Eggington's was the highest rated place that was nearby. Drove over there with my girlfriend and bestfriend and we ordered a bunch of food. The waiter was quick and attentive. You could see other waiters being very attentive for other tables. The people were really nice and the place had this nice cozy morning vibe. The food was priced nicely and the quality of the food was amazing. My bacon avocado grilled was super delicious and every dish had a side of potato's. Definitely worth more than the price we paid for. I would definitely recommend to a friend! read more

Smaller food portions, coffee was watered down immensely, wait time was long for seating and wait time for food was over twice as long with no heads up, and the smile on the waiters? Wiped. Gone from them. This place used to be amazing, but from the 20 years of me being here. This has got to be the worst experience I have ever had. Now for the food, on this trip, I got the breakfast tacos(opted for no chorizo), the chilaquiles to share, and my husband got the French toast. The tacos were actually great, I really liked the green sauce , which tastes like an avocado cilantro salsa. I personally was not crazy about the chilaquiles, the red sauce had a chipotle taste to it, which I was not really expecting . My husband enjoyed his French toast, I didn't get to try it since I was so stuffed! I also got a hazelnut latte to drink, the flavor was great, but a bit too sweet for me. Hands-down, the best breakfast place in Arizona! Was in the area so we decided to stop by and grab some breakfast. The staff was super friendly and the inside was very well-kept. Our server went over the menu being that it was our first time. I appreciated that the server let us know how big the French toast was and gave us the option to choose how many slices we wanted. We ordered a Bloody Mary, Bacon, Home Fries, French Toast, and a Omelette with all of the meats. The bacon was very crispy and the home fries were seasoned to perfection. The french toast was like a cinnamon roll bread dipped in custard. It was far the best french toast I've ever had. Not to mention, the butter was the perfect addition. TC Eggingtons has been our family go to for Mother's & Fathers day, Easter, Birthdays for over 30 years. Unfortunately that's coming to an end everything that made this restaurant special are gone with the new ownership. Portions are smaller, classic menu items gone , even the classic preppy look of the waiters gone. With these changes, I would be supprised if the restaurant stays open. I've eaten here many times. I find this restaurant to be very consistent. The food is really good and a huge shout out for their apple jelly. Delicious!!! They offer it for sale at the front hostess station. I like that they offer an egg white omelette without an additional charge. The menu has a lot of options to choose from for breakfast. They accommodate dietary requests in addition, they have gluten free bread, at an additional charge. The service has always been good. Friendly welcome at the front. Every time we have come here, we have absolutely loved it. I always get something different too. Their omelettes are fantastic and their waffles are gluten free. I have celiac so this is great for me, and not to mention you can't even tell the difference in taste! They are super fluffy.
