I was staying at the Crowne Plaza Chandler a few days ago for a work function, and I knew I'd need a good meal to kick off my day. I was glad to learn about AJ's Restaurant on-property and decided to stop by about an hour before my first meeting each of the two days I was there. There were plenty of open tables and I was immediately seated for breakfast. Seating was available inside or outside. I chose a booth the first day and a random table the second day. I had a small orange juice the first day and hot herbal tea the second. The small orange juice is quite large, so I cannot even imagine how large the large orange juice is (but I'm guessing it's HUGE!). The hot tea was good, but the plastic teapot was leaking. Otherwise, all good. On both days, I ordered the "Two Eggs Any Style" with scrambled eggs, crispy Applewood bacon, breakfast potatoes, and buttered wheat toast with strawberry jam. The meal was great, and I think I ate everything on my plate both days. The service was great! I was checked on multiple times each day. The best part was that the meal arrived only a short time after I ordered. Though the meal was made to order, it must have been worked on the moment after I ordered it. This happened both days, and it helped me get to my meeting on time (or actually, I arrived early!). The staff always had a smile on their face when talking to me. The service was the only thing better than the food itself. AJ's Restaurant is a local Chandler treasure, a historic restaurant, and has been serving the community for over 100 years. They serve traditional classic dishes and contemporary offerings in a refined resort setting. They are open daily from 6 AM to 11 AM. such an unexpected spot for being inside a hotel it is so consistenly good. The service is a little slow, but the food is honestly worth the wait. Pro tip if you're staying at the resort, add on the breakfast option it will easy save to $30 a day. We tried everything, the egg steak skillet, the pancakes. the avo toast. the spicy bloody which REALLY is super hot I had to get regular the next day. Highly recommend for beautful outdoor seating. Last morning before heading home we had to grab breakfast and realized that there was a breakfast spot in the hotel. We came in a little bit before closing so it wasn't busy and we got seated right away. The menu was just 1 page but had a lot of tasty options. I went with the chorizo benedict which was super good and had a great hollandaise sauce which is key for a good benny. It also came with a ton of breakfast potatoes on the side. We sat inside because it was a hot day in Chandler but there is plenty of seating outside as well if you'd like! read more

We had a love-hate relationship with AJ's. First, let me say the food was wonderful. We were there for breakfast about 9 AM. When we got there, there was absolutely no one in the restaurant and only one table occupied by 2 people outside. The outdoor dining location was very pleasant altho we had some issue with flies. We went inside and they said to just pick a table we wanted outside, they would be right out. We did and it took a while for anyone to come see if we even wanted coffee. Times between table visits were long, and practically nonexistent. We ordered and my friend ordered an omelet and fruit instead of potatoes. Some of the best bacon and potatoes we've come across. Eggs were done just right. Little potato squares were nice and crispy on the outside and very flavorful. Sourdough toast was nicely done and there was just one large piece cut in half. It was the right amount of bread. My friend's fruit side came in a big bowl and her bacon and omelet were just right. She could only eat half and would take the rest home. So why the mediocre rating? The service was absolutely horrid! Fortunately we got a pot of coffee which was there when we wanted it and was always piping hot because I'm sure we never would have seen our server Guadalupe. She came with the bill and dropped it on the table, never asking if we wanted boxes. In looking over the bill, my friend noticed a $4 charge for the fruit-for-potatoes substitution. When she ordered, this was not mentioned. She went to get a box for her omelet leftovers and get the bill straightened out. When she questioned Guadalupe, she said there was a box on the menu. That was correct except it is small and says $2, not $4. My friend acceded that that was now obvious. However, Guadalupe said, well, if it's really all that big a deal to you, I'll take it off. Exact quote, BTW. It was just the attitude and the fact that she gave us such poor service that gives AJ's the mediocre rating. There were a total of 3 tables in the entire restaurant so she could not have been overworked. Bottom lined, great, great, reasonable priced and wonderfully prepared food. Poor, poor service. A perfectly cooked breakfast! Scrambled eggs are fluffy, creamy, and not over seasoned. Crispy tasty bacon. Breakfast potatoes with crispy outside and soft inside. Coffee is delicious and flavorful. I don't post reviews often, but upon dining here while staying at Crowne Plaza, I received such excellent service that I was compelled to say something. I was greeted and sat promptly, and waited on by Brenda. She answered all the questions I had and even gave me suggestions and tips that ended up with me having one of the most amazing breakfasts i've ever had! Dulce was also amazing in assisting my family and I, and was even able to discount our meal when one of my sons didn't like his meal! We had such a pleasant experience here that it seems we will be staying here now every time we come to Arizona! Thank you guys! read more

Great local breakfast spot! Some of the best pancakes and avocado toast I've ever had. My husband I would come back to the hotel just for this breakfast, it as really good! The poached eggs on my toast were perfection. My ONLY COMPLAINT would be the rude hostess. She didn't smile or greet us, and when I asked for a table by the window, she rolled her eyes at me like she was SO annoyed she had to walk two extra feet to a different table. Really bad attitude. It would be one thing if the restaurant was packed and I took someone else's table in a different server's section but this wasn't the case. As someone who was in the service industry for over ten years, I've been a hostess, server, bartender and manager, this was pretty unacceptable. I truly believe certain people shouldn't be in hospitality and this person is one of them! Brenda was our server and actually apologized for her, apparently not the first time she's been rude to people. And Brenda was awesome! Super friendly! Fruit plates were large and fresh with several fresh fruits. The fruit and yogurt parfait was huge and delicious. All room service was delivered quick and beautifully prepared. Delish food. I had a $25 restuarant.com so we tried it. The shrimp cocktail was so good we orderd a second one. They grill the shrimp instead of steam. The burger was large and jucy. My husband has the roasted chicket and asparagus. delish. Next time we go, we want the shrimp cocktail and try some deserts. Not much more to say except really good food. I have been at Aj's at San Marcos Place several times for brunch and it is always good. The selection is good, quality of food good and service great. It's the same stroy every time we go, you would figure that after seven years they would have their serving issues resolved, not the case. The historic resort is an amazing backdrop for dinning and we truly try to give AJ's a chance. We typically stop by once a year to see if management has changed their ridiculous serving habitats, unfortunately they miss out huge here. I can't comment on the food because we never get service and refuse to wait the normal 30 min before anyone notices. Read the reviews on Yelp, they all seem to hit on this problem, hopefully the management of AJ's takes note. read more

My husband took me to the San Marcos for the weekend as a birthday gift. We stopped in to AJ's for dinner just after they opened. I was a little concerned because of the prices for the food, but that was dispelled as soon as I got my burger. The serving was really large and every bite was scrumptious. The cup-o-salad was even awesome! Caleb and John made a very special night even more special with their excellent service. Caleb was incredibly polite, it was so refreshing. Even the chef came out to make sure we were happy with the meal, and we complimented him immensely. We had a wonderful time. Thank you so much!!! Was here for an event. Had lunch on several days. The food in their cafe (AJ's) was excellent, every day, as was the service. They were there to take the plates when we were done, unlike some places where they couldn't care less and let them pile up. The mashed potatoes were great. I'm not a dessert eater but I splurged. Everybody seems to love their lemon squares and the apple squares were equally as good. Really good. They have The Best Coffee on the planet. Friendly servers but professional. The hotel is lovely and it's a great setting for a Sunday brunch. We ordered the buffet and while it was good, it wasn't anything memorable for either of us. They definitely aimed to hit on high price points with an omelette bar, prime rib, shrimp, and lox, but then nothing was done exceptionally well. It was all "ok." For the price point, I'd have liked to see something signature that was remarkable or memorable. Service was friendly but not attentive. Went with my GF yesterday to try their Sunday Champagne Brunch. Price is $27.50 pp but they offer restaurant.com vouchers. We were pleased and satisfied. I took my niece this past weekend for dinner while listening to the Chandler Jazz Festival playing in the park. Although we waited a very long time for our order, the food was great. However, the service was horrible. I found it strange that my 4 yr. old niece was offered the bar's happy hour menu instead of the kid's menu. Despite the restaurant being half empty, I found it very hard to get my waiter's attention. At one point I gestured and called out to him. He looked at me, and kept walking. Never came back or sent anyone over to ask if we needed anything. At that point, all I needed was my check since dinner and dessert had long since been served and finished. I finally asked the manager to close out my check. I recommend this place if you have a lot of time and patience to burn. read more

We went here for Easter brunch. The food was pretty good and the selection on the buffet was great. It wasn't crazy busy either, which was nice! The reason for 3 stars is because the service was horrible. We saw our server Brooke two times. The first after we asked someone to find her and 2nd with the bill... They are bringing out a new menu that I can't wait to try :) It's located in the hotel, but it's open to the public and the cafe faces arizona ave and is right off of the Main Street. Prime rib buffet every Saturday. The service was horrible and food was mediochre...except the salad on the buffet. Great salad. $16 /person. Fyi kids menu is only good thru age 8. Fabulous dining experience! Beautiful resort setting in downtown Chandler. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and the impeccable service that was provided by the staff. My wife had the special pork shanks and I had the Delmonico ribeye, both of which were cooked to perfection. In addition, the fresh pretzel rolls with honey-cinnamon butter was wonderful and the chicken corn chowder was fantastic. The Hubby and I went here for their Sunday brunch buffet last week. They have LOTS of food available for only $16/pp. Pancakes, waffle & omelette station, pastries, breads, home fries, the list goes on. The only downside was we were the only 2 people there! I hope more people came after we left, if not that is a lot of food waste. Good breakfast! Have eaten here previously many times for their all you can eat prime rib buffets for 17/pp they used to have on Saturdays. Sad to hear they discontinued that service. read more

We were in on a Friday night for our wedding anniversary. We started with the grilled shrimp cocktail which was by far the best shrimp cocktail than we have gotten anywhere and the shrimp were HUGE. We also each had a caesar salad, very large, could have shared one. We ordered the ribeye steaks and they were the best steaks we have had anywhere! They are served with a spicy butter on top, not too spicy, perfect for me. The steak came with a huge loaded baked potato which also was perfect. We also ordered drinks, my spouse had a margarita and I had Moscato. Both were great. Staff was very attentive and the manager came over and checked on us several times. Timing of the food delivery was perfect. We were there around 8 pm, no problems getting in, seated and were served timely. There was seating indoors and outdoors and there was a DJ playing music outdoors. It was a very nice atmosphere. The only thing I would change is that they serve a pretzel type rolls with cinnamon butter. We were not a fan of that, would have preferred traditional bread or rolls.
