Hokkaido Butter Ramen
KJ B.

Symphony Sushi remains a neighborhood staple. A perfect choice before attending a show at the nearby Huntington Theatre. My party found the food fresh and the servings generous. I don't eat pork and had beef and chicken options. I went with the beef dumpling soup and Crazy Maki. My friend found the pork belly bun scrumptious, but was so filling she couldn't quite finish her salmon sushi combo. The butter ramen topped with chashu pork, ordered by the third person in our party, found it rich and buttery... exactly as described. We went late afternoon, so while there was a robust take out business, we did not have to wait for table service. Our server was pleasant and well versed on the menu offerings. Dine in business picked up as we were leaving. Decor is simple Japanese motif. Temperature was comfortable. Space was clean.

Great service and super clean inside. They have great lunch deals and their fish is always super fresh.

Shrimp and vegetable tempura

I've been to Symphony Sushi many times, and this one was a bit sub-par due to the server, who was slow and got an order wrong...twice. My friend and I arrived on time for our reservation (great addition, Symphony Sushi! Didn't used to take reservations) and ordered drinks and appetizers. I had my regular, shrimp and vegetable tempura, which was perfect--light and crispy coating on the outside, tasty on the inside. My friend's experience was a different story. Her appetizer was the Geisha Maki which she took great pains to order with the spicy sauce on the side. She explained it several times but apparently the server didn't get it because it came with the sauce, which my friend couldn't eat. The server reluctantly took it back and quite some time later returned it... with the wrong sauce withheld (there were two toppings). My friend wound up scraping it off. For her meal she ordered the Sushi Pizza, which she orders most times we go. After waiting some time she observed it ready to be delivered and after a bit she stood up to ask the server to pick it up, which she did. Symphony Sushi is usually a staple and as the closest full-service restaurant near Symphony Hall, a go-to before a performance. We will return but with some trepidation.

This is a great neighborhood spot. The sushi is so fresh and they have great lunch specials, even on Saturday. I always get the spicy salmon roll- best I've had- and the Alaskan roll. The service is friendly and quick and the space is clean. Will be back!

My favorite udon place EVER!!…read more Yume Ga Arukara is hands down my favorite udon spot ever. The udon is perfectly chewy, and the beef is so flavorful. The menu is small, but honestly, they do what they do SO well. I highly recommend getting the cold udon over the hot, especially the spicy cold niku udon, which is my absolute favorite! Sometimes I'll even add extra beef when I'm extra hungry. I used to go to the Porter Square location, so I'm so happy they opened one in Seaport! There's usually a wait, but trust me, it's 100% worth it. Every time I'm back in town, I make sure to stop by. It's that kind of place you just keep coming back to.

I ordered the Spicy Cold Niku Udon and it was really refreshing, especially since we were visiting Boston during a heat wave. The udon was good, but honestly I don't think it was good enough that I would be willing to wait in a super long line for it lol. I know this place gets a lot of hype, but I would probably just aim to come during a less busy time if I wanted to eat here again. The restaurant itself is also pretty small, so I wouldn't recommend coming with a large group. I think a party of 2-4 would be much more manageable, especially during peak dining hours!

And it is popular for a good reason. Service is quick, I'm sure they are trying to get people in and out. Very fresh kaisendon (fish bowls) with delicately cut, plump fish. A friend and I got the salmon and tuna don, which were appropriately priced under $20 if I remember correctly. Lots of different cuts of salmon and tuna, which were all covering fluffy white rice, and served with a side of miso soup and Japanese radish/pickled vegetable. If you were to compare this place with other casual Japanese spots serving sushi or sashimi, there is an easily discernable difference in quality. You can tell by the texture and appearance of the fish in your bowl! This is a classic in Chinatown for a reason, and I will never say no to a kaisendon from Tora.

The toro was really good though, overall still an above average quality sushi but I don't think it's worth the price. -Seafood maki, insanely luxurious roll with sweet shrimp and uni and scallop, just all the most delicate ingredients you never see in a sushi roll. We got the silver set, which comes with American and Australian wagyu meat options. We opted for this one because it includes the seafood platter, vegetable platter, and choice of one of the following specialty dishes: wagyu tartare with chips, sweet shrimp sashimi, bone marrow, & wagyu nigiri. We decided to each get the wagyu tartare. For broths, we did half sukiyaki and half spicy miso. I think next time I will just get only sukiyaki though because it is so good! We ended up just cooking everything in the sukiyaki broth. The pasteurized eggs are amazing in this broth btw! For all of the AYCE options, you get unlimited drinks + tea, seasonal fruit, ice cream, sauce bar, pasteurized eggs, ground wagyu, wagyu curry, and can order appetizers off their appetizer menu. For appetizers, we ordered seaweed salad, eel nigiri, chicken karaage, & fried shumai. They all tasted as expected, so we were happy about that. I enjoyed the ground wagyu! It was tasty and even tastier after adding in some garlic & chili peppers. Wagyu tartare looked and tasted very fresh. I think if it had some more citrus, it would've been even better. Because raw beef doesn't really have that much of a taste and I think some more lime would complement this well! The seafood platter was awesome. My favorites were the lobster tail, fresh abalone, scallops, and oysters. Amazing! I would say the only thing that I didn't like from my recent visit was the vegetable platter. It had great variety BUT I wasn't have that some of the veggies they gave us were not properly cleaned. Make sure to inspect the vegetables!! The watercress and bok choy still had some dirt on them. But everything else was fine. I always inspect everything before eating (anywhere) but I especially make sure to inspect watercress because it's known to be pretty dirty. For meats, we mainly stuck with the Australian wagyu chuck ribeye! It is my favorite cut from this set. Overall, I'd come back again! I think it's a great place to go for hotpot & is different from your typical Chinese hotpot experience. The silver set is the best to get in my opinion because you get a little bit of everything & to be honest, I don't think you can really taste the difference of the different wagyus (American vs Australian vs Japanese) unless it's being grilled.

It was the Asian-American community's go-to spot for dine-in, take-out, or both! This was back when they had their location in the Lesley University food court too - people would be lining up for 30+ minutes to get a coveted seat at one of their humble seats. I look fondly on when they would yell "perfect" whenever I finished my bowl, praising how I slurped every freshly cut udon noodle and devoured every ounce of broth or crispy tempura bit they put in there. The new location is just a few stores down, still in/out of the Lesley University mall area. It has a nice ambiance and feels less cramped. While I miss the "perfect" yelling, the flavor still tastes just as good even if it's gotten an insane amount of hype since then. Would highly recommend ordering takeout if you're in a rush - they do it very efficiently, both at the original Cambridge location and the new Seaport location too.
