Stew beef
Desiree K.

The food is amazing!! It's everything I'd hoped for! The dishes are offered in small, medium and large. We ordered a medium jerk chicken and a medium stew beef. Each dish comes with two sides and the medium is served in a metal, circular tin. I always love when I go to spots like this that offer multiple sizes. I usually pick a size up from what I know I'll finish so I have leftovers for the next day. I could tell this was going to be good just by looking at it. The tin was FULL and the meat was coated in delicious sauces and seasoning. From the moment that I put a piece of stew beef in my mouth, I knew that this place would be a staple moving forward. The meat was SOO tender and juicy. It just fell apart in my mouth. It wasn't chewy or dry at all. I chose rice and peas with fried plantains as my sides and they were just as good. There was definitely food left over for the next day and the reviews raving about the food are absolutely TRUE! This place is amazing and there are so many options. I don't usually get my hands on these dishes too often and when I do, they're not always enjoyable. It was so nice to find a legit Jamaican spot, serving up food that's made the way it should be.

Fried chicken. Delicious.

The food was excellent and the price is very good for the portion size! Will definitely go back if nearby.

Oxtails

I used Grubhub to deliver my food. The oxtail large portion is so big and I split into 2 meals. Fried plantains are $2 for few pieces. Overall the food is decent and the price is cheap

Sylvia is great. I wouldn't necessarily call it a sit down spot but you do you have the option of sitting there and eating and the staff are very nice. I had the jerk chicken because they didn't have the pork ready yet. I also had some plantains and some greens and rice. The food was extremely good and the portions were very sizable for the amount of money that you were paying. I got the medium for lunch and it came out as a large dinner portion in my opinion and it was only $10- $12

This place certainly has authentic Jamaican food for sure. At the recommendation of a friend wife & I stopped in for dinner and the main courses were pretty darn good (i.e. ox tails & rice with peas). Beef patties were ok, however I suspect those bad boys were "real" Jamaican beef patties but I am conditioned to those Tower brands from the supermarket so I could be clueless to an authentic beef patty (meat was not as thick as other processed patties). For a small store front I expected a small cramped spot but it was very spacious, decor was decent and tables very cozy and neat. Overall this is a really neat place to stop in for an informal dinner.

I came to this restaurant recently to get a somewhat home cooked meal. The woman who served me my food and rung me up was very helpful and friendly. I asked her a series of questions which she answered for me. I am finally happy to know the soup menu: Tuesday: Red Pea soup Wednesday: Beef soup Thursday: Chicken soup Friday: Mannish Water (Goat Head Soup) Saturday: Red Pea Soup I ordered Curry Goat with Rice & Peas and a side of cabbage. I forgot to ask for the fried plantain. The rice was really soft. But, the curry goat was tender and flavorful. I just wish the food was a little bit spicy. I paid $9 plus tax for my meal. Which is not a bad price I believe I ordered the small. I would definitely return to try other items on the menu.

Oxtails, cabbage, and plantains, unbelievably perfect combo of savory, tangy and sweet

Sylvia serves the best Jamaican food in Poughkeepsie, with friendly and fast service to match. I visited on a weekday and was impressed with the reasonable prices for authentic Jamaican eats complemented with outstanding service. I placed my order for Oxtails at the counter and asked for sides of cabbage and plantains, unfortunately they were running low on plantains and instead of telling me to pick something else, offered to straighten out the kitchen which I appreciated. Unlike most visitors, I was dining in, which the staff gladly accommodated although it seemed to be the exception. Within a few minutes, my huge plate of oxtails, cabbage, and plantains arrived at my table with silverware and hot sauce. The oxtails were braised to a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, falling off the bone into the savory sauce and tangy cabbage. I saved the plantains for the last couple of bites and was not disappointed by the crispy and sweet bites to finish off a great meal. All for less than $20.

So good! I have not had Jamaican food too often but I thoroughly enjoyed this place. Family restaurant with good home cooked food! I had the curry chicken with rice and plantains and my husband had curry goat. Both were delish.service was fast. I have no complaints.

Take 2: Stopped in as a party of 4 (two couples this time) on Saturday. Of the restaurants in Lloyd, I liked the ambiance here the best; cozy and not pretentious. Our server was nice but a little disjointed. My wife thinks they were a bit understaffed with just 2 waitresses and 2 busboys, I am not sure... One person ordered water and she... brought one water. We had to ask for three more. And then ask her for straws. The food was done at drastically different times (you can see the kitchen and it is a bit small; but they need to have a heatlamp or something so they can stage an order for a table rather than having one thing come out at a time. We tried the chicken and waffles, smashburgers, and salad. Everything was really good! I would give it another try in the future; hopefully the kitchen and service gets into a good rhythm.

I visited Lola's Cafe with my sister while walking on the Walkway over the Hudson Trail, in fact, if you're on the trail and go down the staircase that points to downtown Poughkeepsie Lola's is right to your left when you get off the staircase. We ate the autumn, chicken salad, wrap, and the Baja chicken wrap. My sister is gluten-free and was delighted they had menus with their gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. The staff member who took our orders was kind and generous in his service. Interestingly they also sell coffee beans, merch, and to-go foods from their kitchen. On my next visit, I look forward to trying the cheesecake and one of their bowls, paninis, or salads!

We enjoyed the special chicken tzaziki wrap, salmon salad (tender and tasty), the vegan quinoa bowl was ok but a bit small and not too exciting. They also were preparing catering offers and there was a pretty constant stream of customers. The space is rather small but we got there at a good time to find seating. They also have a tap water station. There's only gender neutral bathroom, which makes for a little wait at times. Street parking and a small lot a short walk away.

This place is a winner hands down. I have to come back because I want to try so much more than what…read moreI could order in one sitting. From the decor to the setup to the wine selection and balance in every dish, it's clear that the entire concept was carefully thought out and delicately crafted from the starts. Parking is simple and convenient with street parking right outside and a parking lot across the street. It wouldn't be a problem even on a busy Friday night. When you walk in, you're immediately greeted by the first of the food hall stations. But keep going back and to the right (there is plenty of signage) and you'll find the host stand for the restaurant. It's separated from the food hall from the bar, but in an open air concept, which brings a lot of energy into the space that you wouldn't normally get with a restaurant. The decor is so unique and IG worthy, especially in the bathroom. Seriously though, go in. It's awesome. We ordered wine, drinks, a salad, and 2 entrees. Honestly, everything was to die for. I expressed an allergen at the beginning and every single thing we ordered from that point was double checked for the allergen - even dishes that weren't mine because she knew we planned on sharing and stealing bites. I was most surprised by the warm shrimp salad. Even with a citrus base and picked peppercorns (which I'd never had before but we're SO good), I would categorize it as savory. It was a real culinary delight. Not to mention that the shrimp was perfectly cooked. I'd rate it a 4.5 out of 5. The only thing stopping me from giving a full 5 stars would be the service. It was very good, just not perfect, which is to be expected with a new restaurant that opened just a few weeks ago. I plan on returning in the next few months, and I'm sure I'm going to be able to edit this last paragraph out after my next visit.

I explained that I usually eat salmon 2 to 3 times a week and I've traveled out of the country at least five times within the last year ordering it wherever I was . I think this is probably the best salmon I've had within this time frame . I applaud!! It was cooked perfect perfectly, and the fillets were perfect sized. The beans , rice fresh guacamole & salsa also deserve a round of applause ! Below is a picture of one of the tacos because they demolished the other ones, but it certainly doesn't do it justice! While waiting, I noticed another group that stated they were a party of 9 was seated ahead of us, even though there were only 7 people, while we were a party of 6, including children. That left me confused and frustrated, especially since we had called ahead and were patiently waiting our turn. I left feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. I can't speak to why the wait list was handled the way it was, but the experience made me feel that we were treated unfairly. I used to come to this diner often, and because of this experience, I will not be returning. More importantly, I hope no other family has to leave feeling the way we did today. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a special Mother's Day with my family ended in frustration and disappointment. Thank you for ruining what should have been a meaningful day.
