I've come to the realization that I need a bumper sticker along the lines of "I Brake For Momo's." Knowing I was going to be in the Pougkeepsie area for a meal later in the day, I checked to see if any Himilayan/Nepalese restaurants had come to the area. Sure enough, I found Momo Garden. Being convenient to my itinerary, I invited a local friend to join me for a quick lunch (just momo's), and a chance to scope the rest of the menu. Their website and sign say open at noon on Saturdays, but they were already open when I arrived a few minutes before that. We were given hot tea after being seated. I don't know if you always get that (they have a chai on the menu), but because the restaurant was still warming up from the chilly morning, the tea was very welcome. Various other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are also available. Papadam and sauces were also brought to the table. The momo's come in 2 varieties, chicken and vegetable, and you can get them in several ways, including fried, steamed, and Jhol, which is the street-food style served in broth. These were delicious, even better with the dipping sauce. The vegetable ones might fall apart a little bit, so you may want to use a spoon instead of a fork, to be sure you get every bit of the deliciousness. This is a great addition to the area. The rest of the menu will just have to wait until my next visit. read more

First time here, but I've been eyeing the menu for a while. I'm glad I stopped by! I ordered the Burnett Blackout drink which was tasty, fruity and strong. We visited here to celebrate my wife's birthday and had a great experience. Sadly, there weren't many people in the restaurant right around dinner time (2 other parties), so I hope business picks up so they can stick around! They came right over with complimentary tea and papadum to start, which was a nice touch. The decor inside is very chic, and there's a a giant map of Nepal on the wall that we forgot to take a photo of...something about situating yourself geographically made sense. For example, we ordered the momos, which were absolutely delectable and tasted sort of like a samosa inside, but were in dumpling form (which you can see on the map might be due to the Indian and Chinese blending?). I almost copped out and did butter chicken, but at the last-minute decided to get the traditional Nepalese dinner (I forget the name, but the staff will help you out). This was so fun, lots of little side dishes, a big pile of rice, some daal, chicken, mushrooms, all super tasty. At the end, they came out with what I thought was melted ice cream but turned out to be a cheese-based dessert with a candle in it...it's not even on the menu but was so different! I'm glad we were able to try it. They sang happy birthday, even though the place was empty by that point, what a nice touch. I came to eat inside the restaurant and the food and experience was worse than expected. They only had one person working and she wasn't even trained at making drinks. She was really nice. But if it wasn't for someone else who finally got there, we couldn't even order drinks. And she limited us to their drink menu even tho they have a full bar....that was annoying. How do u not know how to make a mimosa? Literally 2 ingredients The Nepalese food was delicious. I love their momo's. But the Indian food ? We got gobi Manchurian and curry and it did not taste good. Chicken tikka masala tasted like Campbell soup, and the cauliflower was soggy and nor crispy. The flavors were good so I'm willing to try this place a the again. My friend had her baby shower here and she seemed most pleased. We pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves- very pleasant atmosphere. Overall a nice experience. It took me some time to get my water, even the appetizers came out first which was a little odd but overall service was pretty good. Food was good, I loved the lentil chips and chutneys and naan. The food was great, we did take out so we were not expecting super high quality with a 35 minute drive to get home with our dinner. But the place was open and airy the host was very pleasant and brought us some tea while we waited. Prices were fair, proportions were large. The curry was decent but potion was small. Momo was decent as well while biryana was a big disappointment; flavorless fried rice, not much meat, vegetable or spice. We had lunch there on 1126 and really enjoyed our meal. Never having had Nepalize food before , we decided to go with something we knew. Dined at Momo Garden for the second time. Love this place. The staff is warm and welcoming. Their food is so fresh and flavorful. I had the jhol chicken momo, chili chicken, and palak paneer. My kids had the Nepali kids platter which was nice since there were different little options they could sample in the one dish (noodles, momo, chicken nuggets, scrambled eggs). Ordered take out, lamb curry. Was underwhelmed. Chunks of lamb in a type of uninteresting brown gravy. But then, exactly 1.5 hours after I finished eating, straight to the toilet to sit down. Their service was poor. We had ordered our food and it took about half an hour to come. Also only half our food came. The table next to us had ordered after us and they had gotten their food before us. We had ordered the same exact dish. We should have gotten it first. They brought our dishes later on. Lovely place, and the staff were great. Better half and I split the vegetable Jhol Momos (dumplings) as an appetizer and they were awesome. She had a butter paneer as her entrée and I had the butter chicken. Both were fabulous, with a butter sauce so good that we added an order of nan (great nan, btw) just to soak up what was left. This was a delicious retreat from bushwhacking in the woods. The ambience really brought me to the top of Sagarmatha. The thaali was delectable with the various flavors of Nepal immersing me and my compatriots in the culture and beauty of these lands. The complementary tea warmed our souls and prepared our bellies before we gorged ourselves on Momos and entrees. What really immersed me into Nepal was the video of people hiking Sagarmatha (mt Everest) where along the way they pan to a dead body in the ice, reminding us the ephemeral fleeting nature of life, and momos. read more
