We were greeted by a very nice set up and a welcoming man, who I can only assume to be the owner, and what a charismatic man he was! We felt right at home and were excited to try the food. We both got the Passion Fruit Drink, highly recommend. We also ordered the pork fried dumplings (10/10 delicious) and the crispy egg rolls (also 10/10, super hot but the crunch and flavors were perfect) for our appetizers. We split the entrees, a pork bahn mi, and grilled pork with vermicelli noodles--I wish I would've taken a picture of the bowl to show how delightful it was! The bahn mi was next level in flavor, I def. Could've eaten an entire sandwich. Heads up! There isn't any parking for the restaurant itself so keep an eye out for street parking on your way. read more

I stepped into this wonderful little neighborhood spot, and was cheerfully greeted by the owner, and I thought "this is a good start." The menu had something for everyone- from carnivore to vegan. For openers, I ordered the fried tofu with a a luscious garlicky sauce for dipping. The tofu was crispy and delectable on the outside and soft inside- and I just didn't want it to end. For the entree I had a small veggie pho (which was actually quite huge!) The blending of flavors (basil, garlic, lime) was sublime. I was there early, but it filled up with lots of folks quickly. All of this great food at a price that doesn't drain the bank account. Pho 96 is a sweet neighborhood place-unpretentious and comfortable. Worth a visit when visiting Poughkeepsie. read more

Bam, new favorite restaurant in Poughkeepsie! Seriously, this was just the most comforting meal in a restaurant with such proud owners, you must visit. We decided to head here for banh mi and pho, but ended up also getting the chili lemongrass tofu and spring rolls. I'm no Vietnamese food connoisseur, but I've dabbled occasionally. What made this experience incredible from the start was the warm welcome we received from Chi, part of the family who owns the restaurant. He gave us some time with the menu, then stopped back to check in. We mentioned that it was our first time here and he began offering suggestions from the menu to accommodate both me and my partner, who is vegetarian. You can see from the photos that the food was on point with presentation for the otherwise hole-in-the-wall feel. He then began making suggestions on how to eat different dishes, recommending sauce combinations and explaining the traditional way to eat pho and what different add-ins and sauce mixtures do to elevate the dishes. When we finally got into the food, it was seriously incredible. Packed full of flavor without the excess salt or fats like you get with some cuisines. Mid-meal we agreed that this was just what we had been missing and how it is our new favorite spot. Inside is brighter than you would expect from the outside. It's clean with plenty of tables inside to accommodate parties of up to 5 comfortably. They're coming up on their first anniversary on December 15, and Chi was beaming with pride about it, it was very sweet. We stuck around chatting for a few minutes and got to hear him compliment his wife and sister-in-law as the engines of the business. Pho 96 is such a gem in Poughkeepsie. The decor is warm and inviting, making it a great spot for a date or a small group gathering. From the moment you walk in, the staff makes you feel welcome, you can really tell they're passionate about their food and about sharing Vietnamese cuisine with the community. The soup bases are some of the best I've had outside of Boston, where there's no shortage of authentic Vietnamese spots. Everything tastes deeply flavorful and thoughtfully prepared. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous, so you definitely get great value for what you're paying. One thing I really appreciated is how accommodating they are if you're looking for more traditional flavors - they're more than happy to add things like shrimp paste to the bún bò Huế or pâté to the bánh mì upon request. Dining here feels less like going out to eat and more like being welcomed into someone's home kitchen for a cozy, home-cooked meal. Parking is street-only, but there's plenty available along the nearby side streets. Plus, it's within walking distance from the entrance to the Walkway Over the Hudson, making it a perfect stop for lunch or dinner after a nice stroll along the walkway or rail trail. I came across this spot by chance and so glad that I did, first time trying pho and it was amazing, I got the bun bo hue which is the spicy soup with lemongrass and it was absolutely amazingly delicious! I also got the shrimp egg rolls, so good. The service was great and quick, the ambiance was very family oriented and intimate which I loved, tables spaced out enough. Not only does it stand out among other pho places in the valley, but it also gets all the details right from the broth to the proper type of noodles, which is surprisingly rare around here. Came with a group of friends and their families after stepping off the Walkway Over The Hudson looking for an air conditioned restaurant. The restaurant is in a house and doesn't look like much on the outside. It is simple and clean on the inside and they were able to accommodate our large party. Service was very friendly and the pho was one of the best that I've had. The broth was very flavorful and the spring rolls were delicious and definitely not previously frozen. My only complaint is that it did smell like durian, which is very unpleasant smell. We noticed durian was listed as an ingredient in some of the fresh fruit drinks and desserts. read more
