    54. Lamb Vindaloo
    Caroline C.

Solid Indian food option! We tried the goat curry, lamb vindaloo and palak paneer. The goat curry was our favorite and both the goat and lamb were tender. However the vindaloo was too tangy and the palak paneer too creamy and rich. There was a dollop of butter on top of each dish, and I would have preferred if the dishes were less heavy. The service was fine, but they we only got two rice even though we ordered three mains. Also the restaurant floors were sticky.

So, this place is new in the area. I decided to place an online order which was perfectly seamless. It said the order would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived 15 minutes later and went in. No staff in sight. I waited a few minutes before noticing a paper bag on a shelf by the counter. Sure enough it had my name on it so I took it and left. I got 2 chicken Samosas and the Aloo Tikki Chaat. The samosas were pretty horrible. The flavor was there, but they were so dry that I can't believe they were fresh. I mean like Sahara dry. The Aloo was REALLY good. 1st time ever having it and I was pleased. The portion was enormous! The samosas were huge too, but you know - they didn't taste good. I ate one and threw the other one in the trash. I hate wasting food but they are borderline inedible - the chicken has the consistency of saw dust. The restaurant looked really clean, so that was a plus. I would have like to comment on the staff, but I didn't see any. They also have a full bar... Took 1 star for the samosa and another for the lack of staff.

Namaste Indian Poughkeepsie 260 North Rd. (Across from Marist) We lived in Jackson Heights, Queens, NYC, in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The first Indian Restaurant there was on 74th St. It was called Dehli Palace. That became our gold standard for Indian food, one of my favorite cuisines. Eventually, dozens of Indian Restaurants followed, transforming the area to the aptly-named Little India. But none of them could hold a candle to Dehli Palace. Our favorite dish was Reshmi Kebab, a platter of sizzling delicately spiced chicken breast on skewers over a bed of onions and peppers. Some Indian restaurants call it Murgh Malai Kebabs. This new restaurant in Poughkeepsie names it Malai Kebabs. And it's the same as our Holy Grail...Reshmi Kebabs. Swoon! We started our lunch with Vegetable Pakoras and assorted vegetable fritters. Then the aforementioned Malai Kabab (Boneless chicken breast seasoned with an array of herbs, spices, ginger, garlic and cream.) A lovely Basmati Rice, and Tandoori Roti Service was attentive and gracious. I included the wine list because it was so thoughtfully curated. The room is simple yet elegant. The bill came to $37.20 including an $8 tip. We will be back!

I've come to the realization that I need a bumper sticker along the lines of "I Brake For Momo's."…read more Knowing I was going to be in the Pougkeepsie area for a meal later in the day, I checked to see if any Himilayan/Nepalese restaurants had come to the area. Sure enough, I found Momo Garden. Being convenient to my itinerary, I invited a local friend to join me for a quick lunch (just momo's), and a chance to scope the rest of the menu. Their website and sign say open at noon on Saturdays, but they were already open when I arrived a few minutes before that. We were given hot tea after being seated. I don't know if you always get that (they have a chai on the menu), but because the restaurant was still warming up from the chilly morning, the tea was very welcome. Various other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are also available. Papadam and sauces were also brought to the table. The momo's come in 2 varieties, chicken and vegetable, and you can get them in several ways, including fried, steamed, and Jhol, which is the street-food style served in broth. These were delicious, even better with the dipping sauce. The vegetable ones might fall apart a little bit, so you may want to use a spoon instead of a fork, to be sure you get every bit of the deliciousness. This is a great addition to the area. The rest of the menu will just have to wait until my next visit.

My dad and brother love this place and reminded me to go here out when I said wanted a healthy lunch with protein. Remembering the amazing kebab in pita this seemed like a great idea. I was poring over the menu trying to find lamb kebab and nobody was behind me but I felt rushed to order. When she pressed me to tell her what I was looking for I said I was looking for lamb in grilled chunks not shavings and was pointed to the lamb pita or shawarma. I said again I was looking for lamb as grilled chunks not shaved meat. She said yes it comes in chunks. Nope. What came out was actually a gyro with shaved meat. I decided I could sit and enjoy it anyway. it looked appealing in its sesame bun with white sauce. Unfortunately more than half of this gyro meat was gristle and fat. Not exaggerating. I sat akwardly trying to chew around these hard lumps. After spitting out several bites as discreetly as possible I asked to take it home. When I got home I opened it to salvage the edible meat, but there was very little. The photo I took of the pile of gristle is too gross to post on Yelp and I don't want to hurt their business, but I want to caution against the lamb gyro. They have better options. Probably stick to the chicken for shaved meat sandwiches and only get the lamb as kebabs. I will try again with other dishes and hope to fare better. My kid does enjoy the chicken and fries from here. I will stick to delivery to ensure I can make unhurried decisions.
