Great vegetarian place! Lilikoi sugar cane juice was refreshing and not as sweet as I was concerned, got the spicy pickled pepper sandwich which was actually had a bit of heat, and v filling! Normally between my class schedule I will swing into this place for a smoothie or something satisfying to eat. I was on a Daniel Fast so I needed all vegan diet and this place was wonderful for just a quick stop and/or sitting in their dining area. This place was such a great find! Plenty of vegan options and lots of seating too! I got the ulu and taro poke bowl which was so ono and filling! I could only eat half and saved the rest for later. I loved that they also had a wide variety of pre-made desserts that you can choose from. They all looked so delicious but we decided on the lilikoi haupia sweet potato pie... and that decision my friend, is one we do not regret! I walked in not knowing what you guys served, and I will tell you that I was mind blown. The ambiance was very cozy, and the lady at the front was amiable. I don't think I have ever had a full-on vegan meal, and I can attest that it was so satisfying. Mac Nut Pesto sandwich was exquisite; the crunch of the sprouts and the pesto sauce was outrageous. They have lots of interesting flavor combos here. The presentation was gorgeous and the blueberry coffee smoothie I had was delicious. It feels homey inside and the employees were nice. The only thing I would suggest is to say that everything is vegetarian somewhere on the menu. (Unless there already is and I missed it) My partner ordered a burger here not knowing that it didn't have meat. It was a surprise but he still enjoyed it. Not only do they have amazing food but they are the sweetest people. The MacNut Pesto was amazing so I bought some to go but it went bad so they replaced it. They didn't have to but they did. The visit here started great. Awesome staff who explained the dishes in detail and gave some recommendations that we really looked forward to eating. That's when everything went south. I'm sure the food is really good here when it's hot and fresh. It's a pity we didn't get to experience that. The restaurant seemed busy but not terribly so. But maybe by Hawaiian standards it was? Definitely not a NYC busy that's for sure. It took 20 mins to get our drinks. The regular sugarcane juice could best be described as sugar cane flavored water with how dilute it was. The smoothie was quite good though. I do recommend those. The food. Well. 35 minutes after we ordered we still hadn't received the food and we were told that a phone order came in and they were working on that. 47 minutes after our order was placed we finally gave up and asked them to pack them to go. 5 minutes later they came out not packed but they were able to give us boxes. If you haven't had a lukewarm veggie burger let me tell you, it's about as tasty as it sounds. As I said before, piping hot fresh off the the grill it may have been good, but tepid food just wasn't very good at all. 2.5 stars mostly because the staff are friendly and there is the promise of good food. Do yourself a favor and don't go when there are other people eating there or if a phone order comes in. Or just get stuff to go and bring a puzzle or watch an episode of whatever is on Netflix on your phone while you wait. read more

My family and I loved the delicious and vegetarian concept created by Sweet Cane Cafe. We yelped "delicious sandwiches" and we got what we wanted and more. My husband was hesitant because the menu was ALL vegetarian. I got an avocado sandwich and husband got the Thai curry soup with quinoa. My boys shared a grilled cheese sandwich with chips (and they have so many unique healthy options cooked with no canola oil). Everything was delicious and we felt so satisfied and not tired like other sandwiches we've eaten. All the produce was locally grown too!! I couldn't leave without their gluten free banana bread and it was so so moist and didn't have that strange texture of other gluten free breads! My favorite part was how cute the cafe was! They had tables made of koa tree in unique shapes and sizes. There were fresh flowers on every table. They even had a live ukulele singer playing in the background. Everything felt like quintessential Hawai'i, with the relaxed and sustainable atmosphere. For the longest time ever, I had this weird Açai Bowl craving. I couldnt go for awhile because I was bombarded with exams to study for but I managed to go get one after my exam last week. It was my first time coming to Sweet Cane Cafe and it was spacious, clean and somewhat modern for Hilo, haha. This cafe is located off of this one street thats sort of considered residential area so its very quiet and nothing else is around. That is one of the reasons probably why I like this place a little more. There's a good amount of parking and the sign is pretty big so its really hard to miss. I went with a friend and he asked what's popular. We went in the morning and she said they are known for their Buckwheat pancakes and Açai Bowls. I came here with the intention of getting an Açai Bowl so I ordered that with additional option of 'Omega' which is just hemp seeds, other nuts with honey for $2 extra. My friend ended up getting the samething. Total came out to $24 ish and I guess thats pretty pricey. It was more than $10 each. We sat down and got ours not too long after. It was a big bowl even though we ordered the smaller size. It had generous amount of hemp seeds with maybe 5-6 thin slices of banana. I liked my Açai Bowl but for the price though, I dont know if it's worth it. I wish it had more banana. Nonetheless, it was satisfying and I might come back to try theit buckwheat pancakes. Came here on a Saturday and it was very pleasant. This cafe is tucked away with houses which leads me to question how zoning laws work in Hilo, but I suppose I can learn to let go. They have lots of sanwhiches and almost all of them are just different variations of toast and avocado, but it's what the kids are into these days and id rather see the kids addicted to sweet cane than to cocaine. XD The smoothies are extremely good, and very frothy. We had the banana strawberry smoothie and it was very good.tgey serve them in Mason jars because that's what the cool kids do these days. The best part was the worker who helped us named Liz. She is super chill and can draw owls, but if you call her lister, she does not like that. We came here because there weren't many restaurants open on Sunday. Didn't realize they were a vegetarian restaurant, just saw smoothies and burgers on the menu.
