I'll be honest I was looking for another Vegan place nearby that I've been to before my first time on Big Island but I saw this place and was why not.... Really cool place and pretty big inside.... I think I spoke to the owner and she was really nice and helpful...I was in a rush though since I was trying to change my flight to an earlier flight to get back to Oahu.... I ended up choosing the Hungry Farmer Salad - regular size since I don't generally eat lunch often.... I opted for the chipotle black bean burger for it...and they said it it house made and I believe them...really good... I'm not a big caesar dressing person but that is what came with it but overall this salad was really refreshing and good... It was delicious and loved the house made bread =- it was some of the best gluten free bread I have ever had. I had the chickpea curry salad as my side and this was also excellent. Didn't know it was a vegan restaurant when I dropped in. Amazing food and lot of variety. Their cassava pizza was fantastic! Perfectly cooked and filling, all the ingredients tasted fresh. No one at the counter to take our order-- for a while. The only tables available still had crumbs on them from the last customers, so we cleaned the table so we could sit down. There was a large pile of dirty dishes stacked up in the area where folks are supposed to place used plates, etc. They probably need more staff or this might just be their vibe. I had a spicy kalo burger for $20. The bun on the bottom was toasted (great) but the bun on top was not toasted and was crumbling apart as I ate it. The pumpkin soup with roasted pumpkin seed garnish was delicious, and inspired me to make my own kabocha stew at home. The food is tasty. The cleanliness could use some improvement especially given the prices. All that being said, it is a popular spot. The parking lot was full. The employees looked busy. They should have warned me about the snot shot I got - I forget what it's called but it was like a noni shot or something and it was like slime... it was the worst thing I've ever tasted. I had a couple of their smoothies, a sandwich, and their veggie poke bowl (which was quite dense & heavy, and lasted me nearly two mealtimes). What a great cafe! My Fiancé and I were spending the day exploring the eastern side of the island and were looking for a quick lunch spot when we happened upon Sweet Cane. If we lived on the island this would easily become a regular stop. Everything we ordered was fresh, local, and delicious, and the staff was absolutely lovely. You can see into the kitchen from the dining area and it was super cool to watch one of the cooks break down one of the biggest jackfruit we'd ever seen. They even let my partner and I try a piece. After having come here monthly for a couple of years, I won't be back. It has always been over priced but I was happy about the healthy options. I ordered a large açai bowl, but they did not have large containers, so I had to get a small. It was served in an overflowing cup (see picture) that when opened, began running down the sides of the cup. The granola, coconut and such was served in small containers on the side, but could not be mixed into the cup that was already overflowing . When I asked how I was supposed to eat it they looked at me like I was stupid and then begrudgingly gave me a small bowl. Great vibes and a good option for healthy food. I got the cassava pizza with dairy-free cheese. My boyfriend got the chipotle black bean burger. My pizza was good and surprisingly very filling, I could only finish 3/4 of it. My boyfriend wasn't a fan of his burger. I get so dehydrated being on a plane for over 5 hours to the Big Island and nothing quenches your thirst like fresh sugar cane juice. Got a 1/2 gallon where I enjoyed a cup on site and took the rest to go for our 2 nights in Hilo. The only strange thing is they don't have 1/2 gallon containers for fresh pressed cane juice to go so it was put into a gallon sized container half full. They only have 1/2 gallon jugs in the prepacked ones which costs more as we found out when we went back for a refill before heading to Kona and they rung it up as such. My parents and I came here the other day for lunch. The staff was friendly and they have a lot of local stuff for sale in the front. They try to be farm to table, everything is really healthy and clean. The taro burger was my favorite and the most flavorful, the spicy sandwich was interesting and tasted similar to a turkey sandwich with a kick, the pizza was filling and different as well. We got some juices to go that were really good. We also got the purple sweet potato roll and that was good. I've been coming here each time I visit home on the weekends. I love their smoothies and now my mom wants a coconut matcha smoothie each time I come here. I get the pitaya smoothie, but have also tried the chocolate crave, and holy cacao with some added cold brew. I enjoy their buckwheat and oat pancakes, both savory and sweet, I've tried both. My favorite cafe in the island! Fresh, healthy, farm to table food that I can actually eat! Allergy friendly. I was able to go dairy free easily. The cassava crust pizza made vegan was exceptional, so flavorful! Even my meat loving guys thought it was really good. Everything our family of five had was delicious. I love the expanded space! The last time I visited the island they were closed when I was in Hilo, and the time before they were in a little closet sized shop. I had loved the cane juice then, and the zoodles with mac nut pesto were so good that I remember them to this day (no longer available, dang it, but the other menu items make up for that). There are a lot of grab and go items for sale too, like freeze dried island fruits, coconut yogurt (so good), frozen and fresh juices, vegan ice cream, healthy chocolates, and so much more. I called in a phone order, really easy to place. Smoky taro burger - I opted for vegan Mac nut cheese over cheddar and no sprouts, so they asked if I wanted lettuce instead! My side was sauerkraut, and it tasted so good with the burger. The whole combo was delicious and I loved the Mac nut cheese. So glad I didn't listen to the reviews that said it was dry or not good. My fav meal on the Big Island so far Mango bliss smoothie - with mango, strawberry and lilikoi. not sure I tasted the lilikoi but still really tasty. We picked up and ate at a garden close by. They do have plenty of seating inside, water station. There are a ton of baked goods to choose from as well which I saw when I went in to pick up. Highly recommend stopping by! Everything in the display cases and fridges looked so good, and the girl at the counter was super patient and nice while I browsed. It had been years since our last visit and to be quite frank, it'll probably be years before our next. We were on the search for the best açaí bowl in Hilo and heard many great things about Sweet Cane Cafe. We went and got a bowl to share and it tasted like...nothing. We were very confused because the smoothie itself was relatively flavorless. We also got a vegan(?) chocolate mousse dessert to take home for our family and they also didn't care for it. We were slightly disappointed by the acai bowl, but I hear the other menu items are pretty good. Soon the restaurant just filled up in minutes. The highlight of our breakfast was the SUGARCANE Juice. Freshly made and tasted it heavenly. Being an Indian this was one of my favorite memory of summer in childhood. I'm glad the kids were able to enjoy that in their own country. The microgreens were a great addition to all of the dishes.
