My coffee was fresh and tasted great, and the bagel hit the spot. I had the "Country Club" bagel. The staff were friendly and welcoming without being overbearing, which added to the laid-back vibe. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy a quiet morning, catch up on some work, or just relax for a few minutes before getting on with your day. I just love Ānuenue on the Bay so much! It's easily my favorite place to grab a drink on the Big Island. There are SO many incredible options, from the ube matcha and salted honey matcha to the PB white coffee and strawberries & cream smoothie and honestly, the list could keep going! The staff is incredibly personable and always makes me feel right at home. It's also such a beautiful, cozy space that's perfect whether you want to get some work done or sit and chat with friends. Amazing ambiance! Very cozy and chill. We got a white chocolate coffee, a Brazilian limeade and the usual matcha latte. The Brazilian limeade reminded me of a nice sugar lemon candy and the white chocolate coffee was like the perfect marshmallow flavor; not too sweet but very creamy with a good amount of coffee taste. read more

I am so sad to be writing this. At around 9:00 am on 11/8 I don't know what I experienced. Long story short. It took over 35 minutes for me to be acknowledged and received my one drink. I think it was a one off cause the 5 other times I went it was great! One customer told me good luck as they left! That's when I finally went up and asked how much longer as I have an appt that I will be late to. She said 2 minutes then proceeded to hand me this drink. I had to ask how much matcha she put in. For me consistency is key. I have referred so much people here and now I'm regretting it especially if they are going to receive the same service and product like this. I'm not sure if it was just that day but it didn't smell nice that's for sure. - Walked in, only one other customer in there. Worker looks directly at me and stares like I'm an inconvenience. No greeting, no wave, not even a smile. We actually had to be the ones to smile and tell the employee "Hi!" - We walked up to the counter and still no hospitality of something like "how can I help you?" "First time here?" "How are you today?" Etc. - She uncomfortably stared at us as we looked at the menu. Not even looking at it for a solid 30 seconds and says "Let me know if you have questions" then walks away. -We did buy a single dessert because we were already there. After purchase there's no "Thank you" "Have a nice day" it seems like having business was a pain. - The utensils on the side aren't wrapped and all loosely in a container with the fork and spoons handle in first. To me that's unsanitary already, other people's hands are touching it. Dust will also definitely accumulate as old ones won't be switched out just keep getting more added in there. I'll give this place another chance but how our first trip went I'd really like to give it a 0/5. All in all we didn't feel welcomed in there. read more

My partner and I recently had the opportunity to try this spot for a quick coffee fix before attending the Pride parade downtown. The interior design is excellent, and it gives me the vibe of a great place to do remote work if I ever need a change of scenery. We both got their drip, and it's definitely a strong, bold, dark-roasted coffee. It's not my favorite way to drink coffee, but that's all preference, and I'm sure plenty would enjoy it. However, what impressed me was their service and how the owner resolved a minor service issue for us. My partner and I were in no rush, but were told the second drip coffee would take a few minutes as they needed to brew a fresh batch. Fast forward about 15 minutes, and the owner comes out, sincerely apologizing that there was an issue and the drip coffee still wasn't ready, but would be in a few minutes. Not even a few minutes later, the owner comes out with the drip AND a homemade lemon scone on the house. Other businesses should take notes on how to provide quality customer service. It wasn't the fact that we got something "free"; rather, the owner genuinely apologized and communicated with us about what was happening. Such a small detail that goes a long way. Long story short, this is the kind of small business I want to support. We will return to try other drinks and pastries because that lemon scone was delicious! read more

Hilo has been stepping up! Proud to see new shops opening up, and this by far is my new favorite. Delectable drink selection, no upcharge for dairy alternatives or syrups AND the syrups are made in house! Opt for the vanilla syrup always. Tried the Cafe Mocha (fave so far), Chai Latte (close runner up), and iced Matcha Latte; all were amazing. I've been waiting for them to restock on their London Fog, the owner said she's waiting for her shipment of specialty earl grey tea to come in that has a specific creamy flavor, I can't wait! There's a hot food display that had croissant breakfast sandwiches, waffles with a maple syrup glaze, and breakfast bentos. The stand up refrigerators are packed with local goodies, including ube milk, mango lassi, pickled veggies, homemade wild fruit jams, cowboy caviar, wraps, sandwiches, and other grab and go items. The interior is unlike anything else I've seen in Hilo, it gives moody modern cafe by day, and I could totally picture it like a chill speakeasy at night. There's a beautiful mural, plants all around, local goods for sale on the walls, and even a small play area for toddlers! The interior was well thought out, comfy couches, and bar seating style by the storefront window for people/surf watching vibes, and even outside casual seating too. Hands down, my new go to cafe! The coffee never disappoints and their homemade croissants are so buttery they melt in your mouth! The Chai has been hit or miss, the first two times I got it it was superior, but then the next two times I got it it tasted off. It is a homemade concentration which is amazing, but unfortunately makes it less consistent. I love that they have accommodations for little kids by having a play area set up for them, I am a little sad they took away the baby gate but also understand it was misused by the older kids :/ if they bring it back please try and keep kids older than 3 from going in and making it unsafe for all the little ones. The workers definitely seem stressed when bigger groups come in while they are short staffed, I've noticed there is sometimes only one worker which can be hard when 5 people come in all at the same time. Just had to write about this "club bagel". First of all coffee is excellent!! Customer service has always been top notch!! But this bagel which is similar to a club sandwich just pushed me over the edge today! Normally I'm not a bagel person, I prefer croissants. Let me explain this gem. The bagel was not hard at all. Soft, easy to eat. Inside it was layered with cream cheese, arugula, turkey slices, pickled onions, a fried egg, and best of all a JABOTICA jelly. I had to look this fruit up cause it was so delicious. Better yet, they make this in house! So so so delicious!! Run, don't walk to go try this. You can buy this jelly there too. I'm going back. We waited for an entire hour for 3 bagels and 1 coffee and one of the bagels ended up being forgotten. They issued a refund which was nice but it ate up a lot of the morning. Never write bad reviews but we had a pretty disappointing experience here. I've been wanting to try this place for some time & was excited to finally make it in. We came in Monday afternoon & the girls who were working were quite honestly rude and unwelcoming. We ordered a few matchas ($11 each) and cold brews ($9 each). Not to sound like a snob, but I figured the matchas would at least be freshly made or hand whisked considering the price, but they were extremely sweet & tasted like a thick pre-batched matcha syrup (plus, they were a grayish-green color, which indicates it's not fresh). The cold brews tasted like old brewed hot coffee poured over ice, which is not how cold brew is made. I know we could've said something to the workers but given the service we received when we ordered it felt like a lost cause, so we just ended up just eating the almost $60 we spent. I'm super disappointed because the shop itself is so cute-- definitely looks like an awesome place to hang out, but the customer service & drink quality needs to be improved drastically given the price of everything. read more
