Located with other 'food trucks' and minimal tables around. There's also a large park nearby as well and there's plenty of parking! It wasn't busy at all when I visited, so we were quick to order. My friend and I ordered the Honey Girl latte and it was realllly good! Mac nut milk was really tasty. I wish the caffeine was a bit stronger. The longer the ice sat, it tasted more like a sweet coffee drink lol. Honestly, it was the best coffee I had during Hawaii trip!

It was early and this place was open. Hard to find places in hilo that open early. I think I may have given this place more stars if they had 2%milk and maybe not putting so many black sesame seeds in my matcha. The matcha itself was good, and from Japan which I look for when getting my matcha's. The barista was super sweet and fast. Great service. Food truck style, a shared table near trailer. But other than that it is grab and go style. Off the road, look for the flag to know if it is open because you can't see the window open from the road.

One block away from our glorious Airbnb and was a delicious stop. The Vietnamese coffee was wonderfully refreshing and reasonably priced. The breakfast pastries were solid too - had the entire carpark essentially to ourselves, service was quick and approachable, and something about a food truck just makes everything taste that much better. We were in such a good mood pulling away from here. Great start to the day!

Tucked in a little lot with some other food trucks, you'll find Hilo Ice Coffee. Don't drive too fast down Kalanianaole St or you might miss the turn into the lot. We parked in the small parking lot for the park that's located behind the food trucks. There was no line when we got there so service was quick and friendly. Very casual place, there's a table under tents for you to sit down, but we were just there for a grab and go coffee before our next destination. We got their specialty latte drinks, Honey Girl (iced) and Ube (iced). Both drinks were sooo good! The ube latte featured ube in the milk, syrup and was even topped with an ube foam, but it wasn't an overpowering flavor. It was a well-balanced sip of ube and coffee that I could have just kept sipping away without stopping. I've been on a honey latte craze lately and it's been my go to order at all the local coffee shops so I was excited to try this place after seeing their menu had a speciality drink featuring honey. They used local honey and balanced it with macadamia nut milk and foam, YUM! It was not overly sweet and I feel like the honey really helps to make the espresso flavor pop. I believe the speciality drinks only came in one size. Prices are reasonable and a great price for the quality and local ingredients they use. Soo happy we stopped by this local gem and will be back to try their other speciality drinks the next time we're visiting.

Everyone stop at Hilo Ice Coffee truck! I took forever trying to decide which coffee I wanted because everything on their specialty coffee list sounded so tasty! I went tight the Honey Girl (Macnut milk, honey with mac nut cold foam)!!! Delicious! Amazing! I love trying new coffee shops when I'm traveling and I highly recommend stopping by! There's a few tables to sit at, but it's more of a walk up and go.

Wow! What an excellent tiny coffee truck! Located in a small food truck park on the side of the main road, Hilo Ice Coffee is an unassuming hidden gem that you don't want to miss. The barista was very kind when taking our orders and clearly put thoughtful effort into each drink. I ordered the iced black sesame latte and it was wonderful. The sesame flavoring is very subtle and the espresso was strong without being too much. Great find. Definitely a must visit spot during a trip to Hilo!

This place is such a hidden gem. I love supporting local and it did not disappoint. Located right after ponds in a cute little food truck. We tried the matcha lattes and it was sooooo good. They didn't charge for a milk substitute or added syrups which was a bonus. The people are the sweetest and the menu has a variety of options. never thought I'd see an iced mac nut latte with mac nut foam but that was the honey girl latte ($6.75) they recommended and boy it was an amazing recommendation. it was nutty and the espresso was strong and not astringent. would definitely revisit to try other specialty lattes!

13/10 experience. Highly recommend. The women were kind, helpful, and patient. They had a small tent as well to keep you out of the rain or sun, with a little table. I am what you might call a matcha snob. Very very specific about what qualifies as a good matcha (creamy, smooth, energizing, good flavor) and this place checks *all* the boxes. I got a black sesame matcha with oat milk and I was not disappointed. There was no bitterness from the matcha and the oat milk was smooth and creamy-- not weirdly savory and tangy like some I've had at other spots on the island. If you're looking for good matcha come here. My partner got a cold brew and said it was delicious as well thanks ladies! You guys are crushing it!

We were in Hilo and I was excited to get shaved ice somewhere. This was a great choice because they have coffee and my husband was seeking caffeine. He really liked their iced coffee and I enjoyed a simple coconut shaved ice. They only had one size option available. It was super yummy. This is a food truck but accessible from a nearby parking lot and several other trucks were stopped here too. The server taking orders was really friendly and got items out quickly, despite how busy they were on the Thursday afternoon we went.

While exploring Hilo we stopped at Hilo Iced Coffee, which operates out of a mobile truck and feels very much like a local staple. It is casual and no frills, but that is part of the charm. I ordered the ube iced latte and it was easily one of the prettiest drinks I had on the trip. The purple color is vibrant and eye catching without feeling gimmicky. More importantly, it tastes as good as it looks. It was lightly sweet, well balanced, and still very much coffee forward, not overly sugary like some flavored lattes can be. Service was quick and friendly, and it is the kind of spot that makes you slow down for a minute and just enjoy your drink. If you are on the Hilo side and want something a little different from your standard iced coffee order, the ube latte is absolutely worth trying. read more

THE CUTEST COFFEE TRUCK EVER! I got their strawberry matcha and my friend got the ube latte. Their matcha was good but it didn't have a super strong matcha taste like I usually prefer but I still enjoyed it. The ube latte on the other hand, was extremely delicious. You can taste both the bitter taste of coffee but also the sweet taste of the ube at the same time! They had so many other drink options on their menu that sounded delicious but unfortunately I was visiting for a bachelorette trip and didn't get to stay long enough to try more drinks. Staff were friendly and if you're lucky you'll see cats roaming around! I love that's the staff leave food and water for them. If you're in Hilo, I recommend stopping by this coffee truck! Definitely keep this in my bookmarks for whenever I visit again. read more

We made the drive to Hilo Iced Coffee from where we were staying -- about half an hour away -- even though there were plenty of coffee shops nearby. Totally worth it! I got the mocha ube latte and it was so good. I asked for it a little sweeter (because I love me some sweet coffee), and they nailed it -- chef's kiss! Friendly staff, great drinks, and such a chill vibe. Definitely a spot I'd go out of my way for again. read more

Never received such rudeness from this place before loved my drink but didn't love the sassy remark the barista made when I asked how long the wait time was on a drink since I saw a lot of people waiting and I was in a rush. The other worker was very nice the other one not at all. Customer service is everything. Especially when all places now ask if you want to tip. I hope the owner can address this. read more

Surprisingly good coffee. My preferred cup is a "black drip" They offered iced coffee, I ordered two and had them fill my 42oz cup. Their specialty coffee (espresso based) was good if you like sweet and creamy coffees. It is a food truck. They have a small sitting area but this is best for quick grab and gos. *location can be a little hard to find. Drive slowly. read more

This place is so good! We went back about 4 times on our trip to Hilo. The matcha is creative and really good quality. I personally got the healing matcha (coconut water, coconut milk, honey and matcha). Good size as well. Definitely try if you're in Hilo :) read more

I stopped for some sandwiches from duck fat and noticed there was iced coffee right next door. I absolutely love iced coffee... it's my favorite thing to drink on the planet! This place did not disappoint. The coffee was strong and delicious. The matcha was earthy and sweet. The staff working there were really sweet as well. I think this will be my go to coffee spot when going to or coming from the beach. read more

This place is so great. They have interesting flavors, the staff are SO sweet, and the drinks are delicious and not too sweet at all. I tried the special, Strawberry Vanilla Latte, and it came with a beautiful pink foam top, and the flavor was subtle but distinct, and like I said, not too sweet (a must for me). Also so quick!! Can't go wrong. read more

I was surprised while staying in Hilo on vacation that a coffee truck less than five minutes down the road, is open all day seven days a week, and specializes in iced coffee drinks. After perusing the menu online, my wife and I drove there for our first morning joe of the trip, and we were not disappointed. I love that they offer some unique drinks that are actually good and not just good-sounding. While my wife went for the black sesame latte they recommended (and which she enjoyed), I knew I just had to try the honey girl artisanal latte and, honey girl, it was about as good as a latte gets. :-) Absolutely delicious! We will indeed be back, as there are many more awesome-sounding drinks to try, and only so many vacation days! It's just a walk-up trailer in a small lot with three other food trailers at present. You can park in the gravel lot right in front or in the paved parking area right behind. They even have a short parking video on their Instagram page if you want to check it out in advance. read more

Wanted to get some coffee and searched "coffee" in my maps. Unfortunately it was a Sunday in Hilo so every sort of cafe or coffee shop is closed until Sunday-Tues. Thankfully this place was open until 4pm even on Sunday . It also had really good reviews so I figured I'd give it a shot. I ordered a salted foam latte and it was amazing. Now it's my new favorite spot! Been back here a handful of times since and the customer service is always great! read more

We loved this place! The owner was so nice! She answered all of our questions and helped us picked the best choices. When she was making our drinks, my girlfriend noticed all her stuff were organic and high end products, like organic milk and chocolate...She also uses recycled and green products, such as bamboo straw. We brought the straws back to Ohio and we are using them every day now. I guess we have already saved 30 plastic straws so far? And she also gave us suggestions on local attractions. We went to the Japanese park and we loved it! Thank you so much! Strongly recommend this place and we definitely will be back when we visit Hilo next time. read more

Cute little coffee truck, in a parking lot of food trucks right along the beach. They have a large variety of coffees, matcha and shave ice. The baristas Rae and Julie were amazingly friendly and helpful. There's a beautiful beach park right behind the coffee shop with picnic tables and benches to enjoy your beverage. I absolutely recommend giving them a try. read more

Asked the barista what's the most popular drink & he said this was it, the Honey Girl Latte. Comes standard with Mac Nut Milk. $7 for 24oz. Love supporting small local business rather than Starbies! The iced coffee drinks here are 100/10! We were visiting and looking for a local coffee shop to try out & support. The black sesame latte was delicious and on the lighter sweet side whereas the ube latte is on the sweeter side but PERFECT. During our visit to Hilo, we made it a point to have delicious coffee every morning. We were so excited to find Hilo ice coffee close to where we were staying and made it a point to visit multiple times during our trip. The service we received everyday was exceptional and truly made us feel that aloha spirit. There are three other vendors here available for food as well. The drink came fast which was the opposite of our food. We ordered the half size order for both Farm fig goat cheese and Caprese sandwiches. And then waited. The live music went through seemingly their entire music line up before our food was made. That said, the sandwiches were very tasty. The fig jam, goat cheese, and arugula was perfectly balanced, creamy, and not too sweet. The Caprese had a solid amount of cheese, fresh tomatoes, and tasty bread. Parking is whatever you can find on the street and the music did get fairly loud but they have a few tables outside of the coffee house. Bathroom is clean too.

Finding anything outside of downtown Hilo can be a challenge as WIFI gets a little sketch. Baumkuchen Farms is easy to find as they are marked on most Hilo (paper) maps. From the phone calls I made to the first welcome from Danielle who was on site to greet us on our scouting trip we felt welcomed. Danielle met us in the parking lot and guided us to the meeting place of the tour. She gave us a brief overview and showed us the bakery, the bathroom, the gift shop, before escorting us to "the hale" the meeting place under shade. Marcus, proprietor of the Farm with wife Maria, further told us about the rich history of the Baumkuchen estate as well as the products they baked and sold. Loved the tour of the farm where we saw vanilla beans growing in greenhouse, jurassic looking fruit trees and beautiful royal palms. A year later returned with my college friends who were absolutely impressed with the operation. We purchased baumkuchen cake, flavored cooking rock salts, other treats and of course ICE COLD drinks (in fact grabbed a few of these before the tour and after). And we enjoyed the tasty samples. In fact, have since seen these delectable morsels of Baumkuchen at Neiman Marcus in Honolulu at much higher price..! Still, nice to know where I can get more when I run out. As a disclaimer, I'm not the biggest fan of shaved ice because of how sweet the dessert tends to be, and because more often than not, there are a bunch of artificial colors used in the fruit juices. When we looked at the menu, I was impressed and excited to see the emphasis on quality of their ingredients: no artificial flavors or colors, no aspartame, no high fructose corn syrup, and no preservatives. I was sold. Although we were tempted to create our own shaved ice, we ultimately went with "The Local", a soursop and liliko'i combo topped with haupia cream. Between the two flavors, I enjoyed the sour sop side a bit more since it was the one that was less sweet. The cream on top was absolutely delicious, and reminded me of the light and airy frothed milk cream you find on many boba drinks these days. There's a generous amount ladled on top, ensuring you can have some in every bite without having to carefully ration out the cream. Overall, I'm a fan of Kula Shave Ice. Definitely a great dessert to enjoy on a hot day. Worth checking out if you're ever in Hilo.

Keaukaha General Store

When a store is the only game in town for goods near a tourist entry point, one would expect/accept…read morehigh prices. Instead, Keaukaha General Store (within easy walking distance of the Port of Hilo) provided a great selection of sundries, some souvenirs of Hilo, and a small menu of Hawaiian favorite dishes at prices that were the lowest I've seen in Hawaii. My wife and I came here twice: first while walking into town, when we picked up souvenirs and an unexpected loco moco plate. It was a lot less crowded then, with us being the only ones there...allowing us to have a completely different experience. When we came back as we headed back towards the ship, other cruisers from the ship had discovered this place, and were stocking up on various things. It's a large modern space inside, with things organized displayed very neatly. There was no sense I needed to check for expiration dates. There was a portable ATM machine right by the door. A decent selection of alcohol at good prices were displayed (e.g. $8.81 for a bottle of Barefoot Cab or $18.99 for a 12 pack of Budweiser). I took the opportunity to get something I've not seen elsewhere: a bag of dried clams (aka Asari) for $4.19. Ended up finishing it that night...was really good. It has an all day menu, and was able to order a Loco Moco for breakfast. The all beef patty was very thick and dense, definitely from a frozen patty...good for Salisbury steak or Loco Moco, but wouldn't be great for a burger. The brown gravy was served hot and hadn't congealed, and the 1 egg had been cooked over easy, just as requested. It was obviously freshly made. It was packed to-go, with condiments and utensils available near the registers. There wasn't much space to eat inside, but because it wasn't too busy, found a space to sit in the back. I scarfed it down (probably too fast) while my wife finished her shopping. Also in the back, there are gourmet coffee machines and a chest freeze full of hand scoopable ice cream. There is a Pepsi self serve soda machine, along with various sizes of chips. My wife initially bought a couple of t-shirts as requested souvenirs for our travel mates ($25 a piece), and bought another one as we were heading back. On the 1st trip, she also liked a perfume body mist...the tester was the last one so the attendant sold it for half price ($14). For us, she bought a Hilo waterproof sticker for $2.75. And her favorite part of the store was the small portable Pokémon card machine, that dispensed random Japanese Pokémon cards for a quarter. She kept changing out dollars for quarters and ended up getting $5.75 of them...and a couple of them were hollos that we like. They do charge a 3.25% credit card fee, so cash is preferred when possible.

We didn't think of anything when we saw it the first time. By just looking at the name of it though, my immediate reaction was, "Is this a kombuchas bar??" Well, it is but it's not just kombuchas they serve; it's more than that. The breakfast/brunch dishes they serve (although they don't have a huge selection) are quite diverse. I do incorporate a lot of vegetarian/vegan diet into my daily meal routine so when I saw the Verdant Vegan I simply couldn't skip it. As my daughter and I usually split a plate when we dine together she agreed to this option of mine. Glad we did. This plate has all sorts of goodness included in it. Sautéed veggies, house-made lentil walnut chorizo, ginger beet kraut, fire-roasted jalapeno cashew crema, fire-roasted tomato salsa, and it's topped it off with sprouts. This whole thing comes with either purple sweet potato home fries or red rice (which we went with the purple sweet potato fries and ended up getting a side red rice. We also got the side kimchi and one egg sunny side up.) And we shared a 16oz Ceremonial Matcha latte as well. This vegan plate is way more than vegan. It's mighty as hell. For those who are still not sure about vegan options will definitely second guess it for something that isn't vegan/vegetarian. It's truly nutrition packed in so many different ways. If I lived close to this cafe, I would eat here once a week to enjoy this delightful meal. I am not kidding. I enjoyed the matcha latte very much although my daughter rated it as "okay". She likes her matcha in a very particular way so it unfortunately didn't impress her. This is not to say that she disliked it. She said it wasn't bad either. This place is a "walk in, order upfront, pick a table where you want to sit and one of the staff will bring your food to you" style cafe. Water is self-served. Once you are done with your meal you'll put your dirty dishes in the designated tub. I like this efficient style of serving food. This place has great vibes as well. A bit hippie-ish where bright dark colors such as purple and red are incorporated into the interior. There is even a stage where bands perform on certain days/times. Quite cool-looking. If you are visiting Hilo soon then put this place on your "must visit" restaurant list. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and quality food will entertain you for sure.

Great coffee and other drink choices. Great service. Great location right on the Hilo Bay in the park. Coffee served with Aloha -- easy car park there and enjoy the legend park on Hilo Bay for walking, sitting, and water views. Hilo Ice Coffee is parked right next to really excellent Vietnamese (Yellow Sub) and Pizza trucks on same location. Canopy and chairs/tables. read more
