I was standing in line. A guy waiting said "brah, the sandwiches so expensive now". I said I don't go here that often and I don't remember. He said they were $5 before. Now they are double the price. After going to the beach my son asked what I wanted for lunch. I told him that a sandwich would be good so he took me to Manono Mini Mart. The sandwiches here are great and made to order. My daughter in law had her favorite pastrami in a wrap that she always order. My son had his favorite chicken salad sandwich which is the only thing he orders. I had a tuna royal on white. They have 2 sizes, reg or large, we all ordered the large. Good thing we ordered large because we all scarfed our entire sandwiches. They come with sliced pickles on the side which goes with the sandwiches very well. My tuna was less than $10 and the other two were about $10. Definitely returning here again. read more

We were on a tour and were taken here by the tour guide. He highly recommended this place. Deli menu is relatively small. We got a turkey sandwich on sourdough and a veggie wrap. The turkey was a simple, basic sandwich. $10.50. The veggie wrap was at least a little better. Workers were rude and impatient. Store itself was only average for cleanliness. This small convenience store is conveniently located by lots of nearby things like the Civic auditorium, Kanakaole tennis stadium, Wailoa Park, Liliuokalani Gardens, and more. If you didn't know, you wouldn't guess that Manono Mini Mart has some of the best sandwiches in Hilo. I personally love the alfalfa sprouts in the sandwiches, which also come with lettuce, tomato, onions, Swiss cheese, mayo, and pickles on the side. Your choice of size and type of bread. My brother and I recently got a regular pastrami sandwich and a chicken salad wrap. Both were great, but I really liked the chicken salad wrap! Other food available like burgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and the things that most convenience stores carry. Lots of parking available, but the place gets busy around lunch. read more

The 2 stars are because of their attitude. I ordered a large sandwich and soup. When I got back to my hotel room and looked in the bags, my soup was missing and they gave me someone's order. There was a hamburger, small ham and cheese sandwich and a small tuna sandwich (I don't eat tuna sandwiches). Before going to the airport I stopped to inform them of their mistake and pay for the food I didn't order because I knew I couldn't return it (sanitary reasons) and I felt bad (it's a small store). I should have just gone to the airport. They were so rude when I went to explain and pay (it cost me $13). One of the ladies by the sandwich counter said "I know!" and glared at me like it was my fault and I'd stolen the food. They didn't even give me the soup I paid for previously, I didn't argue because I was pissed at the lady's attitude. I believe the soup was $2+ and I even gave them a tip. I should have not bothered to go back. I live on Oahu and visit Hilo often and will usually stop at Manono Market, we'll not anymore. I'm scratching it off my list of places to get food. read more

What a nice find! We were by the dock fishing and in dire need of snacks, searching for musubi and gravy fries in the area. Inadvertently, skipped the restaurant next door and stumbled upon Manono. Choose a sandwich platter for 27.95 which included 4 choices of deluxe sandwiches, piled high w/ chosen protein/meat and lettuce, tomato, onions, and sprouts; very fairly cheap eats compared to Subway. Spent under 40 bucks w/ 2 big bags of chips. Added some hot dogs for the kids and it was a meal and a half. Assisted friendly staff, as they were personable and approachable. Sandwich maker is one particularly organized and can tell takes pride in his work. All young staff, but very pleasant who actually enjoy working there. I always thought this was called Freddie's Manono Mini Mart?? I frequented the store often when I lived in Hilo, and like the other reviewers mentioned, their PASTRAMI SANDWICHES were and are awesome. Years ago it used to be only $5something per sandwich. I was still shocked it's still only $5something! What you get for $6 makes me give 5 stars. I think if anything there is less pastrami in the sandwich (then again i was tiny back then) but I still can't eat a whole sandwich by myself. They put tomato, lettuce, and a lot of alfalfa sprouts in it, which I actually love. The quality of the pastrami is great, thinly sliced, of course with some fat in there but most of it is actual meat. You also get sliced pickles, and your sandwich is cut in half, wrapped in wax paper. The only thing is I wish they toasted the bread to add some texture and make it a little easier to eat the sandwich. Here's a tip if you are catching a flight out of Hilo and want a bite to eat: call ahead, place a take-out order, and take it with you to the airport. It makes for a perfect meal while you wait for your flight to depart! I even got an extra plate to enjoy back in Honolulu, mmm. :) read more
