Ordered the unsweetened iced tea and their special coffee which were pretty good, nothing super fancy. Hubby got the steak and eggs and I really wanted a loco moco but for a dollar more you get the Mok-A-Saurus plate with a little bit of everything - chicken katsu, spam, and kalua pork in addition to your beef patty, fried rice, eggs and gravy. I went here last night with my family and I cannot stress how much I would recommend this place! The food was absolutely incredible, authentic Hawaiian cuisine with plenty of options. It was delicious, affordable and the portions were huge! The absolute best part of the experience however, was our server Ruth. She is one of those people who goes out of her way to make sure you have absolutely everything you need. She was friendly, knowledgeable about the food and gave us the sense of what the big island is really about. She even overheard us saying we wished we brought cards and 10 seconds later she was at our table side with playing cards for us to use. My nephew and I shared the deluxe saimin that came with mini fried wontons, Korean chicken and boneless kalbi. Visiting Hilo and my niece suggested this place and it didn't disappoint. I forgot what my son ordered but he devoured that plate quickly. I had the chicken fried steak, eggs over easy and hash browns. I was surprised when my short stack pancake came to the table. We were ready for some grub but not that hungry but this place was recommended, of course we had to go and thank goodness we weren't hungry because the wait was between 45 minutes to an hour. The menu was one double sided page filled with Loco Mocos and local favorites. I saw Lechon (fried pork belly) as one of the offerings so I had to order that. My partner in crime ordered fried Saimin (wheat noodles) which in opinion is a version of "Pancit" ( Filipino noodle dish). The Lechon came with Mac and cheese and two scoops of steamed rice. The Lechon was fried pork belly sliced with onions and tomatoes on a bed of Patis (fish sauce). The fried Saimin included some fried gyoza, fish cakes and veggies. The portions were good for two at a good price! The ambiance is a sense of family. You can see all types of families, a family of three all the way to a family of six plus at the restaurant. While after reading the reviews I was looking forward to try the banana macadamia pancake I was a bit disappointed by that.
