Such a cute cafe in downtown Hilo! I was looking for something sweet after having lunch and found this was the closest place to my location that was open on a Sunday. The cafe is located in the back of a boutique / art gallery that sells crystals and prints and has a cute and lively interior. I ordered the chakra latte, which consists of matcha, milk, and your choice of either rose or ube. My mom ordered a heart chocolate (a hot cocoa with milk and cardamom) and a chocolate chip cookie. She really enjoyed her drink and finished it within ten minutes, so it got her stamp of approval. The cookie was harder on the outside but chewy on the inside, which we also like. When I ordered my chakra latte, I was delighted to hear that the milk options include whole milk, oat milk, coconut milk, and macadamia nut milk. I ordered mine with macadamia nut milk and the barista agreed that it was her favorite option to have with the latte. The drink came out with two edible hibiscus flowers on the straw; it was a sweet treat and great detail! The drink was absolutely delicious! The service was also excellent, and the barista that was staffing the counter was very knowledgeable and great to talk to. Superb café in downtown Hilo. I needed a matcha latte before we went zip lining, so parked across the street and walked in... into an art gallery! I almost turned around, then realized the café was at the back of the gallery (they have the same owner). We ordered my matcha latte and got food as well - bagel with cream cheese, everything pizza bagel, and a couple of bacon and Gouda quiches. The drink was good, but the food was exceptional. We finished every last crumb. On the way out, we bought some hematite (magnetic rocks) from the art gallery, so combining the two establishments served its purpose! Will certainly be back! read more

Finally! A coffee shop that knows that an order of hot coffee is supposed to be served hot! I consider myself a real coffee drinker, I don't order those fancy ass sweet drinks that looks more like art rather than coffee and doesn't even taste like coffee. This is the 4th coffee shop I've tried in the big island, this is the first one that got the temperature right and the coffee tastes great. I absolutely love the vibes here. All of the workers are so kind and welcoming, and the girls there are seriously the sweetest. I always order the same two specialty drinks (banana matcha & mermaid kiss lemonade) and they never miss. Everything is so consistent, which I really appreciate. It is a little on the pricier side, but you can tell you are paying for quality. I keep coming back without fail. Honestly, a 10 out of 10. The drinks were tasty... seems to have a lot of ice though. There was a tiny espresso with msc nut that we got. It didn't have a picture and it was tiny . So then we got the ube drinks. "No public restrooms", customers can't even use it. Go across the street to the visitor center if you need to use one. It was ok. read more

The store's name has the word "cafe" in it, but before you can even get to the cafe (which is in the back), your senses are seduced, mesmerized, awed, wooed, cajoled, cradled and mystified by all the amazing, delightful, whimsical, unique, creative and cool gifts...and I'm feeling better because I've used up my most of my adult vocabulary trying to describe this place. There's something literally for everyone in here: men, women, children and pets. I fell in love with Zodiac scented body products, the pastel unicorns, the flowery sage wands, the humongous Smoky Rainbow Quartz sphere at the entrance! This place reminds me of a magical Bohemian gift shop filled with rocks, minerals, bath products, home decor and maybe even some great coffee (which I hate myself for not trying). The shop keeper was super friendly and went out of her way to find out the dimensions of the huge sphere, which my friend was actually considering purchasing, as he's a crazy rock and mineral hound. One of those places in Hilo we usually visit on our trips from O'ahu. As in the past, so today, the food is of very quality, the service is caring and friendly and it is a very pleasant place to be. As in so many cafes and restaurants, prices have gone up. This is a societal issue that is not only not being addressed but is getting worse. Nectar Cafe has been a regular Hilo stop for me for a few years now. The Ube ice cream is absolutely amazing - consistently great. But that's not all they have. Ice cream. Hot n cold drinks of all sorts. It truly is a fun stop with delicious treats and drinks. The folks working there have also been consistently friendly and helpful for the duration I have been coming. I ordered the Supah Brew, my girlfriend ordered the Uplifter. The Uplifter's recipe was pretty weak on the coconut side and the coffee was over toasted, tasted burnt, frankly. The Supah Brew was better, but quite gritty with all the almonds. We've come to Hawaii once/twice a year for the past 20 years. Let me start with the positives: oceanfront, great location, we were drawn in because the beautiful looking storefront caught my daughter's eye. I have my daughter a budget of $500 each trip and she wanted to purchase the candles made by the store and was asking questions about it, needless to say the customer service was lacking and my daughter really wanted some other things but I told her no because I didn't like that we were not being helped. It did not seem like they wanted us in there. We proceeded to the back to purchase the drinks and again; the service was not aloha spirit. My daughter then needed to use the bathroom & was rudely told she could not use it by the front store and the cafe worker. As a business owner myself, if you have a cafe/business it is customary to have a bathroom for your customers or at least not be mad at your customers for asking. We quickly left with our $6 lemonade that was just mediocre. My husband said we should've just left from the beginning but we wanted to give them a chance with the cafe. This is the first experience in the past 20 years of coming to Hawaii every year that we did not receive the aloha spirit. Had I read the yelp reviews first it would have saved our time. We came to Hilo for our annual trip to the Big Island Candy Company, the aloha spirit & welcome at the cookie company made us feel so much better and we spent our $500 there . I last came to Nector Cafe to enjoy their Mother's Day afternoon tea and that was great food and service. This visit with my friend was not great. I ordered a pumpkin bubble waffle for $15.55 and I received a wet and soft waffle with no crispy exterior that one would expect from a waffle. I really did not enjoy it at all. I asked if they could remake the waffle and was denied. I didn't even ask for a refund but they informed me that they couldn't do that as well. They "made the waffle according to their recipe". I recommend that in the future they give the customers notice that the waffle is not the typical texture and an option to have the toppings served on the side to avoid a soft, wet waffle and disappointment. Stopped by this coffee shop in Hilo while gift shopping for friends. You can order and pay on a tablet outside by the front door and then go through the shop to pick up drinks in the cafe in the back. The menu is large and a bit overwhelming but I love all the options available and the unique elixir drinks. This store is really pretty inside with a lot of spiritual and wellness focused products. It's fun to browse books, crystals, and aromatherapy while you wait for your drinks. My boyfriend and I liked our drinks and they were very aesthetic, but they were nothing extraordinary for the price. Staff was friendly but the only reason I'm giving Nector 4 and not 5 stars is because they were out of many of the description cards for different crystals (specifically the one I wanted to purchase, too, sadly). The employee also didn't seem 100% entirely knowledgeable about the properties of the crystals which was a major downside for me since I don't know much either, but I was shopping for someone who does know a LOT about crystals so I wanted to make extra sure I was getting her something she would like and appreciate. read more

I was in a funky mood wandering around downtown Hilo finding something to do while waiting for my tires to get a Goodyear change. Then, all of a sudden I was drawn in like neodymium into an alchemical boutique. Perhaps it was the crystals realigning my aura drawing me in or Pele's Dream eyes reminding me of some wildflower I once knew. The painting hung close to the entrance and I cautiously walked into the Wild heARTist. Towards the back of the store, a sign shimmered Nector Cafe. A glistening turquoise espresso machine reminded me of my youthful summers in Italy. I was greeted by Tyler, the storyteller manager, and we bantered for a few moments when I asked about the cafe and some of the local favorite dishes. Curiously, I had no idea what a "bubble waffle" was. I was tempted to try the Elffle, a cheddar, chive, BLT delight. Totally Savory & Totally Delicious!!! The Nector team was lively and fun, my only wish was to have some music playing in the background to reattune my mood.
