This place has been hyped up across social media for a while now but didn't have a lot of Yelp reviews so of course I had to try it. They're becoming well known for their variety of bubble waffle options which is a great new addition to Hilo! I'm only aware of one other place that serves bubble waffle in Hilo (Big Island Pearl Tea, across from Miyo's, must try!) and theirs is amazing (honestly my favorite) but it only comes in regular or chocolate and they're not equipped for other food items and toppings, at least not yet. In contrast, Nector Cafe does a great job at offering a large variety on their food menu; we ordered the Munkie Luv and Elffle. The toppings definitely held together the overall dish but the bubble waffle itself left more to be desired, but BIPT may have raised my expectations on that front. Nector Cafe also boasts a large drink menu with coffee, teas, smoothies, frappes, and more. We ordered two drinks, one of which was the Mermaid Latte. It sounded great on paper but the flavor was lacking, the amount was barely half the cup, and the price was yikes. The other I can't recall so I guess it wasn't memorable. Either way, it's definitely a step up from the common eateries in Hilo and was a fun place to try; solid 3.8. read more

Very expensive, not worth it. Ordered a regular mocha for $7.77, it was not hot and was somewhat weak. I said extra shot but I guess she didn't hear me. Girlfriend ordered Sacred mocha with cacao for $11.11. Better taste but not amazing. There is sign saying 11% discount if you post a Yelp review. I told her I was going to post one, again she must not have heard me. A discount would not have changed this review. I have tried almost all the cafes that serve espresso in Hilo. Most are ok but none are as consistent as Newport Cafe. If you like espresso this is the place. I came to this store 4 times during our month long vacation in Hilo, with family and then with friends from El Paso Texas. All of us, 6, agreed that this cafe was amazingly great. Decor on the deserts surpassed many restaurants in Paris. The girls, not due to our disrecpect to them, but due to the fact that they are about as old as my grand children, were super nice and professional despite their young ages. Pros: The staff was welcoming and kind. The food (we ordered the Elffle and Pig in a Bubble waffles) was delicious and the drinks (lemonade and hot cocoa) were the perfect compliments to our breakfast Con: It gets crowded fast and there's only five places to sit so factor that in. The first time we went in we weren't sure where to order, waited (as the only people in there aside from the ones who had already ordered) for about ten minutes. In that time six other people walked in, and the employee working helped them without ever acknowledging us. We ended up leaving without ordering. I was frustrated with this first experience and think it could be made clearer where to stand to be helped (we weren't the only ones who thought you should just order at the bar). Tea, coffee, smoothies, lemonade, floats...what's your flavor, friend? You will undoubtedly find something to enjoy, hot or cold, given enough time to browse the board up front, and that's not mentioning the dessert options available, including ice cream and bubble waffle creations (some of them savory instead of sweet, like the Cheddar & Chive)! The only downside is this place makes Starbucks look like a budget beverage broker, as your drink is likely to make your wallet lighter, to the tune of $8 or more. Yet my wife could not wait. We were told there was a public restrooms were across the the street. This is my 2nd review. This is only my 2nd time coming to this little artsy cafe, the first time I tried their Mermaid Kiss, and this time I did the February Special, So in Love Strawberry Milkshake & the Ooohbae Waffle cone. They have healthy choices to snack on like Avocado toast, Scones, and Sandwiches, but what really calls me into the place is all the different art pieces and fun little things they have on their walls. This time around it took MINUTE for the girls to make my 2 items, I ordered, waited a few minutes took a few pictures, and looked around before deciding to have my daughter bring my order out. What a cute and fun place. They have quite a few drink and treat options. You can either sit at the counter or they have a few tables and soft chairs within the little boutique shop it shares space with. Both are well worth the stop. My friend had a scoop of the macadamia nut caramel ice cream and I had a smoothie. The staff was very nice in helping explain all the combinations of flavors and offered great suggestions. read more

Great boba and waffles. Woo-hoo! Came here today and got greeted with a smile. The boba was pretty good, and was also nice and warm. Can't forget about the waffle! Super cool cafe looked inside a gallery that you can browse around the gallery while you're waiting for your drinks. They have a large menu with coffee, teas, smoothies, and frappes. Some of the drinks were very unique and different added flavors. I got the upliftor, which is cold brew with coconut cream and vanilla which takes some time to get used to the taste but gets better as I sipped through it. Also just venting now but like people really be wilding in these reviews thinking this is a huge metropolitan area and if everything's not 1000% perfect and efficient it MUST be THEIR a fault. Islands are a tough place to run a business, or upkeep a home. There's the time difference with mainland, and many things aren't so handily available on the big island. And you know what? That's okay. In fact, I like it. With mass production you lose individuality, and nectar is definitely one of a kind. For those who want a generic vacation (and people with generally negative attitudes), I would recommend Waikiki. Please let the wanderers, lovers, explorers, and the kind frequent Hilo. Stopped here while waiting for dinner reservations to grab a cup of coffee. They had a kiosk up front that you had to order from. They would not accept orders at the counter. Our drinks took quite a long time even though there was only 1 other group that already had their drinks. My drink was ok and others in my group seemed a little disappointed with theirs. Pros: it's a really open, cool trendy space. The first half is a boutique, with lots of artwork and other things being sold that are nice to look at. There was also a large tablet device at the entrance, where we could order our drinks before we even walked in. Cons: After we ordered on the tablet, we had to wait 20 minutes for an overpriced latte that was alright. The Nector Cafe has unique and different drinks and treats that delighted the five of us from young to old. There was seating outside and we could basque in the ambiance of the atmosphere that surrounded us, ie street musicians and artists.
