This eccentric cafe seems like it belongs in Portland rather than Gresham. It's full of kitschy decor covering the walls which might offend your conservative parents. The different variations of eggs benedict are always a delight. The coffee tastes like Folgers and might embarrass your grandmother who is not expecting the creamer served in a baby bottle. Generally speaking I really like this place. The one star if for today's service. I was sat at a table in the back that held eight people. I was by myself. It took five minutes to get water and I was never brought a menu. The waitress said she would be with me in a moment as she was delivering food to another table. A couple of minutes passed I was still being ignored so I got up and left. I guess a one person table is not worth anyone's time or effort today. Ate here today. We ordered with the person who checked us in before going out to the back patio as we were told was necessary before being seated outside. Waited quite a while before someone came out to tell us that our order was "lost". They immediately took our order again and said it would be right out as there were no orders in the kitchen waiting. I've been to Sweet Betty's several times now and it has never disappointed. Whether you're enjoying their Eggs Benedict, Chicken Fried Steak, or their Classic Breakfast, you'll certainly be satisfied. My last two times I've enjoyed their Chicken Fried Steak. It's always cooked perfectly, but it's the flavor of their country gravy that makes it exceptional. The hash browns and home fries are always crispy and not swimming in butter or oil. My family decided to visit this place again, to give it another chance. We should have just SKIPPED IT! 5 of us waited over half an hour to find out that "the other girl" marked us off without calling our name. WHAT?? The hostess showed up wearing a hoody (with the hood up) and sweatpants, looking and acting like we just dropped into someone's living room in the morning uninvited. Weird. I'm used to Portland service but this was another level. The server was friendly though, and dressed professionally. Food was really standard fare for a greasy spoon/diner. I ordered the chicken fried steak, my friend got an omelette. The omelette was fine. The CFS wasn't great. Thick, gloopy, bland gravy. Hashbrowns were very nostalgic, but probably came frozen from a bag. Maybe not? They just reminded me so much of Ore-Ida frozen hash browns. I realize that many places are short staffed, but that is no excuse to not even acknowledge the customer and let them know someone will be right with them. I still highly recommend the restaurant. After looking over all the menu options we decided to choose from the light menu and chose an omelet that came with fruit instead of paying for potatoes we won't eat and then extra for fruit. So we were ok with a 15 minute wait to be acknowledged by the staff to be seated. We chose to sit outside. We waited for 31 minutes. No one came out to the table. No Waters. Nothing. We were there on July 12th for breakfast. The young man at the front mumbled some words to us, either of us could understand. We had to ask him 3 times what did you say! A few of the other waitresses were very sloppily dressed, stomach hanging out, short shorts, etc. A young girl sitting outside, had to come in and ask for silverware, and then she had to come in again and ask for her ticket as they just wanted to leave. After all the waitresses huddled together once again, to decide to comp the young girls food, one of the waitresses comments were very snotty and had a tone. Now, I know customer service can suck, but your waitresses were underdressed or sloppy looking and wanted to just chit chat instead of working, which is why I am sure the yound lady sitting outside was not getting the service she deserved. As for our waitress, she was a really cute blond, dressed nice, looked clean and was very assertive to our needs. She gets 100% in my book. The food was sub-par - meh! Believe me, if I could leave less than one star, I would. Tried to take my mother to eat here for breakfast on her birthday. The hostess was incredibly short and rude while seating us, and we didn't even get water until we asked for it. Our orders were taken after waiting for much too long, and then three plates were brought out and all but dropped on the table. We sat there for 15 minutes, waiting for my mother's breakfast, while every server but our walked by us. I finally had to ask where her food was, and was told that it was forgotten and literally hadn't even been made yet. I ordered buttermilk banana pancakes. Since we were all waiting until my mothers food finally showed up, they were cold when I took a bite. The pancakes were CLEARLY from a Bisquik mix, and one of the driest things I've ever eaten. I paid an extra $2 on top of the ridiculous $11 to have bananas IN my pancakes, and there were less than 10 slices on top. Every server kept on telling us how busy they were, even though they weren't at all. On top of this, every server was very rude and talked over my mother when she tried to explain what was wrong. And when her food arrived, it wasn't even worth eating. The entire $53 meal ended up being comped. The quality of the food wasn't even worth $10, and I could've gone to Starbucks and gotten more food that was what I actually ordered and actually edible for less. The smaller location of Sweet Betty's was nowhere near this horrible in terms of service, food quality, and a hostess that actually knows what hospitality means. My mother has been a loyal patron of this restaurant for years, but that ended today. Save your money, your time, and your stomach from this ridiculousness and eat literally ANYWHERE else. read more
