Visited in July and easily made a reservation about a week ahead. They take a deposit when you reserve on Tock, but refund it after you dine. I definitely recommend making a reservation, because it was packed! My boyfriend and I ordered: + Princess & the bean cocktail + Cannon ball cocktail + Caesar salad + Heirloom tomato salad + Tortelloni en brodo + Steak tartare + Braised octopus ragu + Sticky toffee pudding The cannon ball was by far the best of the two drinks - perfect if you like tiki cocktails. Food highlights were the Caesar and heirloom tomato salads. Tortelloni en brodo was my next favorite. Steak tartare and sticky toffee pudding were also worth ordering. Some things were a little salty, but overall I thought the food was great! read more

Great menu, I'd come back to try more items. Our table had a lovely view, I appreciate the windows allowing natural light in and the beautiful scenery. The tuna tostada was the best bite for me highly recommend if you like tuna. The porchetta was good but I had a lot of fatty bits in my cut of meat, I would have appreciated more balance. Truffle fries were dangerously delicious. read more

My husband and I went here for our 10 year wedding anniversary, visiting from New Orleans. We sat in hours of traffic from Denver to Vail, due to a car fire. We made reservations for 6:45p and showed up at 7:05, after driving around trying to find it and paying to valet just to try to make it on time. The hostess was really off putting, said she gave our table away because we were late. I tried to explain why but she wasn't listening (or cared). She ended up "finding" us a table after putting the additional stress on us. Our waitress was incredibly nice and attentive. The food was wonderful. And we were checked on regularly by the waitstaff. So aside from the first interaction with the hostess, it was a very enjoyable experience and the ambiance was great. I guess coming from New Orleans, where we regularly dine at Michelin/5 star restaurants, the experience was lacking. For a special occasion like this, sometimes we get specialized menus with a note like "happy birthday" or "congratulations " etc. The waitstaff make note of the occasion and mention it or bring a special dessert etc. it's those nice touches that really put the experience over the top. And as someone who used to be in the service industry, it doesn't take much to turn the experience around. If the hostess had said, "I'm so sorry that you had that experience driving up here, coming all this way from New Orleans. Let me see what I can do to get you a nice table," it would have gone a long way. read more

Do not come here! I just finished a large party birthday meal at this establishment. We booked two specific tables for a larger party and went through their group services and placed a large deposit. Upon arrival early for our reservation we found that the hostess had given one of our tables to another party. The hostess was rude and unapologetic. The manager was nowhere to be found for 15 minutes, when finally available (keep in mind the restaurant was empty at this point) she was also rude and unhelpful and offered us another table which made our party have our backs to each other. Me (the birthday boy) and my wife ordered their most expensive dish (steak medium rare) which both came out ice cold. We sent both steaks back and they returned the same steaks back well done. I asked for the manager and she offered to have the "re-fired" 30 minutes later after all 11 of my guests had finished eating we received new steaks, now medium rare with the same side dishes from the original steaks now reheated for a second time. As if all of this back of house and front of house malfeasance and negligence was not enough to stand, now my wife and three of our guests have food poisoning and have been throwing up non stop for 4 hours (its now 1am) Avoid this pit at all costs, they are rude, treacherous, dishonest and unsanitary. This is the first bad review I've ever written, but I felt I'd be doing other patrons a disservice if I didn't warn them off. read more

Have heard great things about sweet basil and finally stopped by during a recent visit to vail. Highly recommend the goat cheese appetizer!! It was amazing and I can't stop thinking about it. Served inside of a crispy shell that you use for dipping in the goat cheese. Service was great and restaurant is much larger on the inside than the outside leads you to believe. I will definitely be back! read more

It was good not great. We had the salmon (very good), the cod (miso dressing was tasty), the gnocchi was yummy but have had better at lesser restaurants. The crab pasta was delicious. Overpriced but nice ambience. Bar is cool. read more

We've been there before for dinners and the food was good. Sadly yesterday we came for lunch and literally sat for at least 15 mins without ever being addressed. The waitresses went to three other tables that were sat after us (next to us) and still never came to our table. We were dressed cute and were friendly as usual when we were seated. When my husband got up to ask for assistance, a server said they'd be right with us. We waited. We waited. Nothing. We left. So disappointed. read more

Great spot for lunch! Sit in the back where you can overlook the creek. I got two raw seafood dishes. The first, the yellowtail dish, was much better than the other. read more

You can't go wrong at this meeting place of Vail. The cocktails and food are fabulous as are the staff members. All well trained. I have had most everything on the menu at one time or another with not a disappointment, ever. The bar area is fun and busy but the tables are separated for privacy. read more

We were excited to try out this restaurant, especially as it has recently been awarded a Michelin Star. Our reservation was on Monday for 6pm. We arrived a few minutes early and the bar area was already full, with many also dining at the tables. We were seated by the window in the back with a beautiful view. The restaurant filled up quickly after we were seated. The drinks menu was a bit limited and the service was incredibly slow. I'd never been to a restaurant that didn't have a glass of Prosecco. The table of 4 behind us was served bread to start, but we were not, nor was the couple next to us. It took 45 minutes to get our drinks (sparkling wine and a ginger ale) because the drink machine had to be fixed first? We ordered 3 appetizers and an entree to share: the whipped feta, sashimi, and steak tartare. These were all delicious, once they arrived. We were served appetizers almost 90 minutes after our reservation. We were told that there was a mixup with the order. Our shared entree - lobster ravioli was less than mediocre. The presentation was very nice, but it lacked flavor. The waiter was nice enough, he kept apologizing about the long wait time. Apparently there was a dinner event at the restaurant and it was causing delays. I can definitely appreciate a restaurant being busy having worked at restaurants before, however this level of disorganization at a Michelin restaurant is unusual. Unfortunately I can't recommend Sweet Basil. For the food, my husband and I ordered 3 appetizers and an entree to share. read more

So good!!!! The service was phenomenal and the place is so much bigger than I expected when you first walk in! We will definitely be back on our next trip to Vail! read more

This place was so sweet and cool! We came here for our anniversary. This place you need reservations about a month ahead of time as well. It is a nice clean, and modern place. We were seated in the back patio with heaters and let me tell you, it was still freezing. It wasn't a busier night but we felt like we were last resort. It took awhile for them to clean our table after our entree. And we felt like the night was long. The menu is seasonal but we were able to try these entrees: Iberian Duroc Pork Chop 5/5-- the pork chop was cooked to perfection. It wasn't dry. The sauce pair so well with the pork chop and the vegetables. It def was the star of the show. Colorado Angus Beef Tenderloin w/ Corn Soufflé 5/5 -- the steak was cooked to perfection. I got mine medium and it was perfect. I enjoyed the side salad with it along with the butter. Sooooo perfect honestly and refreshing. The corn soufflé was a nice touch to it as well. Dessert - Lemon and Fennel 5/5 - this was def not what we expected it to be but the flavors paired and complemented one another so well! It is a cold dessert but so worth it. It's got a touch of the fennel taste with brown sugars and a beautiful crust below. So good! Overall, I would def come back again. We really enjoyed our dinner here. read more

Made a reservation, but showed up early and got seats at the bar. The bartender was super nice, friendly, and checked in with a manager to find out food when he noticed we still hadn't been brought out for awhile. The food was beautiful, fresh, and flavorful. My faves of the day were the whipped feta with a sweet sauce under a crunchy puffed up layer, and the yellowtail. My only complaint would be that the hostess said she would move us to a table as soon as one became available, but then she never did. Oh well. read more

We were in Vail for a business trip & made reservations at Sweet Basil. I had scoured Yelp for recommendations and had seen many ordered the whipped feta. It was not my favorite. It had a raspberry sauce, simply adding too much sugar to it for me. Many like it so you may if you love sweeter things. The entree was by far the star! It was the surf & turf with a tenderloin and a shrimp relleno with lobster crema sauce! Oh my word, it was so amazing. Get it! You won't be disappointed. Last, we order a very different dessert with fennel and lemon. It was so good. There was a crunchy brown meal underneath which complimented it nicely. If you're adventurous, try it. Overall, our experience was good. Our server was nice, but kept disappearing. All in all, I would recommend this place when in Vail read more

Fantastic lunch at Sweet Basil. The ambiance was wonderful on the patio as usual. Best dirty martini with blue cheese olives ever! We started with the heirloom tomato salad and it was delicious. The truffle fries and burger was the win. My husband enjoyed his chicken salad but decided it was not the best choice. Our son liked the Mac and cheese. Service was just okay but everything else was exceptional. read more

The appetizers were good, but the food was okay. We ordered the lamb and pork -- the lamb was way undercooked for what we asked for (medium rare plus) and when we asked to cook it a bit more, they returned only 1 strip of the lamb with all the sides missing. Definitely would not consider this place Michelin. read more

Service was wonderful, we were seated quickly and had a fabulous table however the menu was a little limited and we didn't love anything we ordered. Nothing was bad but nothing we would come back for. The portions were tiny and it was very pricey...for reference we went to Russell's the night before and ordered so much more food and a bottle of wine and it was the same price as our dinner here and we only ordered one cocktail. It was okay but again, not somewhere we will be going out of our way to come again. read more

Better to make a reservation but if you can't, arrive at the start of lunch or dinner service for a walk in. Kind and attentive staff! Loved the service, Emma was wonderful. Appetizer- whipped feta was enough to share with 2-3 people. An experience. The salty and sweet combination was tasty. Entrees- Mahi Mahi tacos were okay, I wouldn't order again. The cheeseburger was standard, nothing special. Great location. Everything tasted fresh. High quality food. read more

We recently dined at Sweet Basil and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there. Although the waiting area can be a bit cramped when it's busy, the dining area in the back of the restaurant with views of the river is lovely. We had the Ahi Crudo and potato bombs to start, both of which I thought were delicious. The sauce on the potato bombs was particularly intriguing. I had the venison for dinner and shared some of the duck entree with another member of my party, and although I thought my venison was really good, I think the duck was better. For dessert, they had a special that was a snowman with chocolate ganache and raspberry coulis constructed as a snowman, which was both incredible to look at and delicious to eat. Overall, I very much enjoyed my meal at Sweet Basil and would recommend for anyone looking for a more classy place to eat in Vail. read more

My wife and I had high expectations for Sweet Basil after hearing so many glowing recommendations from friends. Unfortunately, our experience was underwhelming. The service was fine, no issues with our server, but the food just didn't live up to the hype. We started with two appetizers (about $50 total), and while they were edible, they weren't memorable. I finished mine because I was hungry, but my wife wasn't a fan at all. For entrées, my wife ordered the pork chop, which came out lukewarm and unappetizing. She couldn't eat more than a bite or two. I had the halibut, which was fine. Nothing stood out, but I ate it. To their credit, the staff replaced the pork chop with a pasta, but again, it was just okay. The noodles weren't great and the dish wasn't served very warm either. The bright spots: the dessert was excellent, and the drinks were generous. Those were the highlights of the night. All in all, it felt like a very average meal with a premium price tag. We left disappointed, and unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

Michelin starred? Interesting. Food was "ok". Lacked flavor. So I'm surprised. However the sticky toffee cake actually tastes as good as G Ramsays which was a sweet surprise. Service was amazing too. But I'd skip this place--for my foodies. Def not the best read more

Visiting from out of town, Sweet Basil was our first dinner. Steven our waiter was incredible. He was extremely knowledgeable on their food menu and gave great recommendations. As an appetizer we got oysters. When we received our entrees we were overly pleased. The flavors in all our dishes were amazing! I ordered the beef and broccoli but upgraded to the sirloin, so delicious & the crispy broccoli was yum! For dessert we had the cherry bomb & the hazelnut option. Presentation was great for both and the taste was even better! With a low dim dinner ambiance, I would highly recommend to visit when in Vail. read more

A classic Vail food restaurant. Be sure to order the Feta appetizer. Make reservations because you won't get in for dinner without them.

We've been here several times over the last 5+ years but unfortunately won't be returning. Breakdown of our experience: Positives: - excellent bartenders (we showed up early for our res and enjoyed drinks and chat with them) - good ambience, lovely scene - not too loud, no children running around - amazing wine list and also cocktails - entrees were quite good Now for the sad parts: - our waters were not refilled ONCE over the course of a 3 hour dinner. We looked around and it was the same situation for the rest of the tables around us - same thing with wine - no one came around to refill or pour - our server didn't know much about the menu nor address a specific allergy question - our server only came around once to check on us over a multi-course meal, and managed not to clear off our empty plates and empty cocktail glasses until the following courses.... Just odd - this also lead to us not being able to order wine until dinner was 70% over - apps were mid at best Our experience would've been just ok at any other restaurant, but for $250 per person, this is pretty unacceptable. We left upset.... Very unfortunate read more

Perfect location and delicious special occasion dining spot! To be honest it's a great spot to dine regardless of the occasion. We started off with a table facing the river and tasty beverages. My husband had the short rib croquettes and I had the corn cappelletti both were delicious! The corn was perfectly balanced with the truffle and the mushrooms and the flavor. And there's four pieces enough for one or to share. My husband described his croquettes as a delicious take on the short rib entrée perfect small bites and fried... What's not to love!?! We had munched at the farmers market so we weren't too hungry for our own entrees so we shared the Tiger Prawn Pallela. Innovative and yummy! Can't wait to return to this hot spot! Make reservations as far out as possible, they are very popular! read more

I was really looking forward to trying this spot given all the buzz, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. The feta appetizer was overwhelmingly salty, to the point that it was genuinely hard to eat and we couldn't finish it. The beet salad was fine, but nothing special. The gnocchi was far too rich and heavy. Overall, just disappointing. read more

Overrated. Small portions and high prices. Food was so so. Ambiance is nice but nothing special beyond that.

Nice upscale restaurant with good service. I ordered the prawns a la plancha and my husband got the Mahi mahi tacos. Sweet basil is a standard pricey Vail lunch and not a quick bite if you are trying to get fueled up between the morning and afternoon ski runs. My prawns came with an orzo salad and butternut squash purée. I liked the purée with the roasted pepitas but the orzo was too greasy for me. I felt queasy on the runs after. The mahi mahi tacos were skimpy on the mahi mahi, and they grill the tortillas making it more quesadillaISH. read more

Sweet Basil has been our go-to in Vail for years. Hands down, it has been my husband's favorite place in all of Colorado. Until today. I called 30 days in advance to request a reservation for his birthday lunch. When we arrived, they acknowledged my husband's birthday and guided us to a 2-top on the balcony, arguably the worst table in the restaurant. There were 5 or so remaining empty tables on the balcony, all 4-tops. I was facing the wall, with the sun covering half my body. We should have never sat down. To honor the 4-tops (we were a party of 2), take advantage of the view, and avoid the direct sun, I moved my chair to the side of the table. Rather than check in and ask if another table would better suit, the Manager asked me to move my chair. In the meantime, the other more desirable tables were taken by other parties of 2 and one party of 1. One table only ordered drinks. We were appalled, as we had been told these were reserved for parties of 4. As always the food was impeccable, save the single $21 "tortilla chip" with 1 tiny langoustine "Special". TBH, we were pretty distracted by the whole table situation to truly enjoy the food. Total lunch check for 2 = $187. Normally, we would been thrilled to pay this here. read more
