My husband made an appointment for a consultation with Dean Sutton to come and estimate the trimming of 1 200 year old oak tree. UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT PRESENT FOR THIS CONSULTATION . We hired Sutton tree service to trim the one Oak that was dead . Then he proceeded to tell my husband that the second oak was dead and that should be cut down too. In my opinion, the second oak is not dead. It's sprouting new growth and I am just completely shocked that they took down a 200 year-old oak tree that was not dead. That was giving me shade for my home and for my beautiful garden, that I've spent years creating!!! The destruction and devastation combined with the emotional distress that I feel on a daily basis since the loss of that beautiful 200 year-old majestic oak. As an arborist, I would've thought that he would have been a little bit more aware of the consequences of destroying that tree right before summer. The protection and SHADE that Tree provided for plants and wildlife has now been destroyed and gone, never to come back, maybe in 200 years. I don't recommend this company if you have trees and landscape that you love and want to protect and preserve call somebody else. read more

I wouldn't recommend this company. Dean came out to the house and trimmed our palm trees. The day after they came, multiple palms had more fallen leaves that were nicked or partially cut during the process. . So, they had to come back again to remove those leaves which resulted in removing too many leaves at one time. Several weeks later one of palm trees started to look sick. The leaves were dying and the palm was sickly. We called Dean back out and he said it was too early to tell. That we should just wait. When the palm continued to deteriorate, we noticed that several other palms looked sick as well. We called out an arborist to assess them and he diagnosed them with a parasite that was transmitted from dirty blades. I called Dean back again and let him know that we were unhappy with this diagnosis and the treatment was expensive. The sickness was a direct result of this company not cleaning their blades inbetween clients. The palm has now died. We called Dean to come and look and his exact words were that we couldn't "prove" that it was him that caused the issue. Our palms are 20 plus years old and we have never had any issues like this before. He said is could remove the dead palm for $400.00. Not only was he arrogant but he was rude. He didn't deny that he was the cause, but said that we couldn't prove that it was him. We didn't ask for a refund or reimbursement of the $1000 we had to spend on treating the palms, we just asked for him to remove the dead one. Which seems fair under the circumstances. Since the time we had him out, we have heard from multiple people that have had similar experiences with Dean Sutton. Being rude and arrogant seems to be a consistent issue for him. Sadly, I would recommend you that you find a more reputable company to trim your palms and trees. read more

They do the bare minimum. Trees look shaggy and sucker branches not removed. I asked him to take notes during the inspection, but he said he would remember. I should have taken notes myself, as they missed a few trees and now they want to charge me extra. Some of these are evident (touching the roof of the house). Most of the time when you see that trees have been pruned & trimmed around town they look as if they have been literally butchered. We were well overdue to have our trees thinned and extremely concerned of what they could look like afterwards. We met with Mr. Sutton, shared our concerns and asked if he could do what needed to be done and finish as if no one had been here. He sent in a crew of 5 talented men, worked all day and removed an enormous amount of dead wood and overgrowth. Dean came out to our place to give us a quote and was a complete ass. maybe cuz it was the start of the morning, maybe was just in a crappy mood, but regardless shouldn't have to put up with crappy customer service. Called him out to get a quote on removing a tree in my front yard. When he arrived he was immediately very arrogant and unpleasant to be around. When I showed him the tree I want removed he had the balls to say "Why do you want that removed? It's a nice tree." Seriously??? Your job is not to tell me what or what not I want. Well, he ended up quoting a ridiculous price, basically because he didn't want to do the job which is fine with me as I wouldn't have used his company even if the price was competitive since he was such an ass. I joined Yelp just to warn others to STAY AWAY from this company! They charged much more then their estimate. My sweet elderly mother called me sobbing after her experience with Sutton tree service. They failed to communicate with her prior to doing work that was not neccessary ( so that they could charge more). They were very disrespectful to her. They left tracks with their vehicle. SOO disappointed. I called Sutton Trees back to look at the work they had done as too many stumps and roots were left. I was told by the owner, who had helped me the first time, that he'd be back out within the next couple of weeks to clean up the rest of the roots. 3 months later, still waiting. We had a small job for these folks, just one tree. They did a good job. The tree looks good and a lot safer. They didn't damage the house, no one got hurt, and they cleaned up completely after themselves. They were a lot faster than I expected and it was a little scary watching the man with the saw in the tree, but he seemed very competent and confident. This company cut down our neighbor's tree and damaged our fence. Not once did they approach us regarding the damage. We have called multiple times and spoke to the owner, but he made excuses for his team's mistake. Not a single apology or call back after multiple requests to fix the part they knocked down. I asked Sutton Tree Service to come out and untangle a kite that has gotten tangeled in a cable that we had secured to a palm in my front yard. Last summer they came out and trimmed my palm with all the dead leaves and charged me $100 which I found reasonable. At that time I had them attach a pulley and cable to the top of the palm so we could fly some Halloween ghosts over our driveway. So I had a kite that became entangled in the cable and requested for them to come out (when they had a truck in the neighborhood) to come out and simply remove the kite. They decided that $200 would be necessary, even though there would be no cleanup needed! They have been removed from my list of honest companies. I called Sutton Tree Service because a very large tree in my backyard developed a spilt between a large branch and the trunk. The branch was leaning toward the house and this became an emergency situation. Dean came out immediately and was able to offer advice on preventing a disaster until he could schedule his crew. Even though this happened during his busy season, he managed to fit the job in and sent his crew out the next day. They worked all day in the rain and not only removed the broken branch, but trimmed the tree in such a way as to make it healthier and more attractive. I highly recommend Sutton! read more

The tree had very prolific and aggressive roots and the guys who did the job not only made sure that all of the visible roots were removed, but they also dug deep to ensure most of the roots beneath the surface were removed as well. We have used Sutton on three occasions. They did a fantastic job, and were 100% hassle free, no mess was left behind (I couldn't even tell they were here) and good prices too. We are hard customers to please and we wouldn't use anyone else while Sutton is around. They removed three palms and ground down the stumps. One was a very difficult job because we had a triple king palm growing side by side a Mexican fan palm we wanted removed (these were 20' trees) and Sutton managed to remove the fan palm and saved the king. They just completed trimming a huge (15' high) cactus that we love and were concerned about having anyone trim it.
