Have used Sutton for two years now to trim the palm trees in my back yard. Yes they are more expensive then some of the other tree services but there is no damage to plants in my backyard from them trimming the trees. Their crew came in and set up catches for the branches, put trash cans over some of the plants to protect them and lowered the heavy branches to the ground vice using gravity. The area was cleaner than when they started. They are well worth the price. read more

Last year, we had one large olive tree and 2 smaller olive trees laced and trimmed by Sutton Tree Service. the owner and arborist did come to our home to give us a bid and I expected that he would also supervise the work. He did not. The workers arrived late and really didn't seem to know what to do. I would not contract with this company again. read more

Used Sutton Tree Service to remove a large tree in the middle of my driveway. The Tree was in a planter with lights all around the circumference. When I discovered the lights were no longer working because they had cut the wires when grinding the stump, Sutton refused to return multiple calls and did not over the cost of the repair. They said they could not know there were wires there. THE LIGHTS SURROUNDED THE TREE! They may be been less expensive than others to remove the tree, but given the $450 electrical cost, I would have been better off using someone else. read more

At the risk of sounding cliché, you get what you pay for. Great price but terrible service. If nothing goes wrong, lucky you. If something does go wrong, Sutton Tree Service won't take responsibility and will blame it on you..I felt like I was dealing with a slumlord. Don't be fooled by how nice they are going in. We have an acre+ and recently had Sutton Tree Service prune and trim more than 30 trees. They did what we asked, our trees look great, and the crew cleaned up well afterwards. I got three quotes to cut down two large trees and to top another. Sutton was professional, showing up on time to make the quote and receiving the quote in a timely manner. Dean came out to see the trees and was very professional. I liked the quote I received. It was lower than the others, though I had to wait a little longer to get the work scheduled - certainly worth it. The guys showed up 3 hours early because they had already finished their first, small job of the day, but fortunately I was home and available, and they got right to it. It worked out well. The workers were friendly and competent, and completed the task in a reasonable amount of time. I would hire them again if the need arises and recommend giving them a try. Got a good estimate. Had to wait a week for them to come out. They showed up for both appts. when they wanted, not the agreed upon time. During the estimate I asked if they would use a ladder as others had offered to climb the trees and I didn't want to risk that. Dean said yes, we will use a ladder. I said great, done deal. They showed up with no ladder nor one on the way. I called to try to work this out. Dean was not the least sorry he didn't do as he promised. Said I wasted his time. I sure wasted mine waiting for a service that doesn't care about their word or doing the job as promised. Cheap price quotes but very poor customer service and integrity. read more

I had Sutton remove two trees and grind down 2 stumps. I was very pleased with the results. One of the removed trees was a very large Brazilian pepper tree that had sprouted suckers all over the yard. They did a great job removing the tree and suckers and cleaned up well. read more

Sutton is a terrible company. His workers have no idea how to trim, shape or thin a tree--I had to help them trim and shape trees when he sent his crew over. He planted several trees for me, and some have died--he does not guarantee trees, and was going to charge me again for bringing in replacement trees. And he advertises in monthly publication of Angies' List--why do they accept his ads?. Cross him off your list for any possible work. read more

We had Sutton Tree Service prune all the fruit trees, top a couple, cut back 60 rose bushes as well as all the other shrubs. Their office staff is friendly and pleasant, Dean came right out to give us an estimate and back out today when his crew arrived to go over everything with the guys. The guys were great, pleasant, professional and did a great job and excellent cleanup. They were reasonable, arrived promptly when they were to be here and we are extremely pleased. I have used Sutton previously and thought they did a very nice job and that they had fair prices. A few days ago I called to have the same service as I have had three years prior. I specifically requested that I or my wife be onsite when the service arrives so we can describe how we like the palm to look (we like the more full look). We arrived ten minutes after the time they were scheduled to begin. They had already completed all the work, but the palms were cut too thin, not how we like it. I talked to the workers, who were very kind and apologetic. They stated they did not have a work order to wait for us or that we be onsite. It was not their fault so I called Sutton to discuss this with them. The receptionist stated that Dean, the owner, was in the area and he could stop by. I told her I would be at home. When Dean arrived, immediately he was confrontational and rude. I showed him the palm trees and told him that we have liked his work in the past and have always, and as we requested this time, that either my wife or I be on site so we can share how we want the palms cut. He stated that I did not request that and asked if I wanted to talk to Christy (his wife). I asked him why I would need to talk to Christy. He said she took the order. I asked why that would help. He then told me it was because I was stating his wife was a liar. At this point I was really surprised. I have never dealt with a businessman that was so aggressive and rude. He did not want to listen to me or my concerns. He did not care about his customer. I was still being polite to him. I even asked him why he was being so rude and what he thought that would accomplish. One more time I told him the work we requested was not performed to our request. As I business owner he did not care about the customer or making things correct. Over the years I have referred his service numerous times. I will no longer share them as a service which is really too bad. Had Dean simply treated me in a fair and polite manner, and given me the opportunity to discuss a fair settlement for the poor job completed, I believe we could have resolved this. Dean's attitude towards me was very disturbing to say the least. read more

The most disappointing thing about their service is that they do not stand behind their work. If there are any problems they do not care to try to make it right. I was very disappointed in how they trimmed the trees, bushes..total bill was $3000 plus and paid $350 for trimming of some tall bushes; they didn't even take out the dead in them. They said it would take too long. (It took my husband about 5 minutes to do one bush so at most would have added an hour to the job which was a $3000 job.) I have had 2 landscapers to the home since and both (without me mentioning) asked who had trimmed the bushes and trees and said how poor of a job it was. They did such a poor job on some of the bushes and trees that I will need to have them removed as they will never recover from the butcher job. I had high hopes for this company. I was terribly disappointed. They took out several trees and that was ok. If you are having things removed may be alright, but wouldn't let them touch anything you care about. read more

Dean Sutton and his crew are the best. We needed a massive pine tree cut down as well as pruning a bunch of palms, bird of paradise, bushes, and a really old and mangy Monterey Pine. He quoted it lower than anyone in town, his crew came in and got the job done perfectly. How perfect? First of all, they came in with a boom truck. The rest of the guys in town planned on climbing my palms with spiked shoes or using a pole. I could have done that myself. (at least the pole cutter part). The boom truck got the job done, they hovered around the top of all of the trees, trimmed each beautifully and got rid of all of the pesky seed pods. They took the pine tree down piece by piece, didn't break up my driveway, didn't damage anything on the property. To top off the perfection, the foreman was in the backyard at the completion of the job skimming our pool for the fallen leaves. I wanted my trees trimmed so they would look like they were growing at Disneyland: like a fine haircut. Dean (the owner) did a great job of describing what he would do, how each would be trimmed, when they would be here; he gave us a great reasonable price and everything went as scheduled. Thereafter I needed something done and grabbed the closest guy cutting trees at a neighbor's. He charged me WAY more than Sutton Tree Service, did an inferior job and didn't clean up. Sutton is in here with a grinder to get the stump out on removed trees - leaves no mess behind, trims the trees beautifully and knows TREES!! He knows what kind they are, how they grow, how often they will need trimming etc. He told me he has been trimming trees since he was knee high to his father, who trimmed trees. A true arborist. I wouldn't go anywhere else and all my friends to whom I've referred Sutton, have been happy with the service too. read more
