The first part of my review is when I first visited last year. The sushi was okey but not incredibly fresh. My husband doesn't care for raw fish so he got a bento box, he thought it was just fine. The second time we got it to go since it's just 5 minutes away from our house so that's why we've been there a couple of times. This second time I was super disappointed with the quantity and quality of the order, needless to say we won't be going or ordering again! The hot and sour soup wasn't even 1/2 of the small container, note the photo. The sushi was small and again not the freshest.

TL;DR Solid sushi but lacking in providing the best possible service After reading some of the more recent reviews on the service of this place I was a little skeptical however after trying the food I believe that the reviews regarding the service do a disservice to the actual meal they provide. The food was delicious and savory and the sancho roll we had was spicy and savory. I do feel that they did mess up on one of our rolls replacing it with a rainbow roll but that was delicious as well. The server also did forget to refill my water but overall the dining experience was pleasant. In all honesty the ambiance wasn't horrible the restaurant does have a beautiful overlook of Reno, however I'm just tired of the harsh white, gray and black colors I see with most restaurants these days.

I dropped in for lunch the other day and it quickly filled up right after I was seated. This was my first visit and the dining room was spacious and clean. The owner took my order and he was very friendly and made his rounds. He gave all of us the perfect amount of attentiveness. My food was great and came out fairly quickly. I was happy to get my fix on my lunch break. My only recommendation is fixing your prices on your menu to reflect the actual prices, some people would have a cow about change on the dollar. I would definitely return if I'm around.

My favorite sushi place in reno by far! So many great options here. Christian is always making sure we get the best service possible! The atmosphere is great and the service is even better!

Fantastic sushi spot. The rolls are great. The beer menu is pretty standard and the sake menu is as well but this spot is great.

Horrible. Visible discrimination in service and food that's not worth the wait. The owners and employees should be ashamed of themselves.

The only sushi place we will eat at! Seriously the best service, freshest rolls and best atmosphere out of any of the sushi places in Reno.

I like this place. Okay food for the cost. The bento boxes are great. The my could be more generous on the mochi.

Ask the Community - Sushimi's

Are there separate menus for lunch and dinner? Such as if you come for lunch you can only order off the lunch menu but if you want dinner rolls you can pay the dinner price?

Im pretty sure it's the same menu but doesn't really matter to me. I love nigiri and I always ask the chef's to make me their favorite or a special roll. There is always a secret menu for sushi. Be nice and they may might make you something… Read more

Do you pay lunch price if u come at two but finish after 4?

Yes

Is this place a rebrand of Hiroba?

Actually, the owners of Hiroba split, this location changed their name and a new Hiroba re-opened in Sparks. The menu is the same as it used to be but with a few things added!

Do you get free sushi on your birthday?

Not sure about that

We sat at the bar, and it was really enjoyable chatting with the staff there. The atmosphere is a bit noisy, but that's because it's always busy. One thing to keep in mind the wait can be long. However, if you don't mind sitting at the bar and there's space available, take it! Instead of waiting 45 minutes, you might get seated right away. Without a doubt, this has become one of my favorite spots for sushi. Thank you!

The time it was just my husband and I was so slow. We also sat down as the second table. They had a full staff and it took the longest. The food is good. I rate the roles at a 3, but note. I like simple sushi. So I tried the rolls just to try and see what they taste like. Its good if you like likes of flavor. It removes what people say is the fishy taste. I love the taste of fish. So I typically lean towards nigiri. I will amdit their sashimi salad as a 5/5. I loved it. I thought we could order 1 per round, but thats not the case. Look at the menu and its once per visit. The salmon hand roll is a 1 for me. It was not very crispy and hard to power through. So I dont recommend that, but they do a roll of it. So if you share with friends it might be worth while. The Niger I rate a 3.5/5. There was a lot of rice, but they also give a good size slice of fish. What got me was it didn't have that crisp taste when I ate it. Its hard to explain. The food quality is good. Don't get me wrong. Just the service and my simple taste buds. Its very popular and many locals love it. The lady was very sweet, when we got to speak with her. So don't let my rating and my taste buds hinder you from eating here. So give them a try.

We had a late lunch so decided to just go for ala carte but wished we had done their all you can eat. We started with the calamari appetizer, cucumber salad and two orders of their potstickers. Their potstickers were the star of the show and I would go back here just to order these. Some of the best in town in my opinion! They were doughy and flavorful, still tender not too crispy and just the right size with a great potsticker slightly spicy sauce. We then ordered the Snow mountain roll, the caterpillar and rainbow. We loved the size of the rolls, not too much rice, flavorful, fresh and good. Before our order came out we were offered a sample of a new dumpling pork bun that was so good we wished we could order it; but the owner informed us it would be coming to a store next door soon - so stay tuned for a new O'A dumpling dim sum shop to open soon in the same shopping center. The service was attentive and charming and the restaurant seems very authentic - we can't wait to go back and try all you can eat and get their punch card.

Reno does not have elite sushi in general, but you can do better elsewhere if you are seeking rolls. Their nigiri was decent. I have not tried their Chinese, so that might be what boosts their rating.

Recently we have went twice for lunch and really have enjoyed their lunch special of ramen, smaller roll, 2 potstickers and cabbage salad for 22 bucks. I think its a great deal because the ramen is very good, a good portion and comes with a lot side things. My wife ordered different rolls each time and they were all very tasty and fresh. The times we have went haven't been very busy so it's chill in there and the servers are helpful and attentive. They have that lunch special all week so if you are not in the area during the week then try it out on the weekend.

I think what set this place apart from other spots was the well portioned rolls, nigiri, and the variation of fillings inside the rolls. I feel some places go heavy and hard on the fried shrimp but Umi had a wonderful mix of fish and shrimp and other roll fillings. My favorite hands down was the Vegas roll with the savory tuna, followed by the crown shrimp roll with a mayo topping the really brought out the umami flavor. While this spot is a little out of the way for us I definitely plan on revisiting soon and recommend this as a go to spot for both locals and those who are traveling from outside the area.

A server came and he recognized my friend from the other week and greeted him. Some people have mentioned the fish being small on the nigiri. Smaller than some other restaurants, but the fish to rice ratio is good. There were a lot of good options for the rolls. I tend to like ones that have some lemon and they tasted nice and fresh. I felt the crystal shrimp was more crisp than some other places like it hadn't been sitting as long. We did get checked on frequently so had no issues with ordering. While it was nice having things come out at different times, we did have a pause and forgot about some rolls we ordered and were stuffed by the end. Next time, I think we would order rolls in 1 roll increments versus 2 of the same flavor for 4 people.
