    Dragon roll
    Michelle L.

We were seated right away in a booth and our server pulled down the privacy screen. I have never seen that before. It made things a little more private. The food came out very quickly. I had the dragon roll. It's basically a California roll with eel on top. I enjoyed the crunch of the cucumber and the glaze was perfect and not too sweet. The sesame chicken was not on the menu but we were still able to order it. Even though it was coated in a honey sauce, the breaded chicken was still crunchy. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was very juicy and tender. The server was very nice and efficient.

As someone who takes sushi seriously, I make it a point to try it wherever I go. So when a friend suggested this place, I thought--why not? The vibe was cozy and intimate, with some semi-private seating that added a nice touch. The lighting was dim, setting a mellow, romantic mood. Service was decent, though it took a bit for anyone to take our drink order. I shared a lychee sake--light, smooth, and something I'd definitely order again. For food, I went with the sashimi omakase (I think that's what it was called), which came with four types of sashimi and a choice between a California roll or a crunch roll. I picked the crunch roll. The sashimi was fresh and tasty, but the salmon stole the show--melt-in-your-mouth buttery. I kind of wish I had just gotten a full order of that. I also tried the Apollo 11 roll, but it didn't quite launch for me. Not bad, just not memorable--and my sushi standards are sky-high. It's a cute little spot, and I'm glad I checked it out. Would I come back? Maybe--but next time, I'm sticking with the sashimi. That fish was the star of the show.

    Teriyaki chicken breast

Super cute interior and delicious food. My dad paid, so I don't know how much it cost. But I had chicken bento box meals (teriyaki chicken, rice, tempura shrimp & veggies, fried gyoza, cabbage). They were really yummy! Husband had the teriyaki chicken breast - very generous portion. We can't wait to come back!!

We hadn't been in a while, so we were invited by our daughter and her new husband out for dinner and a movie. I really liked the way they had the inside decor, it was really set up nicely. I was looking at the beverage menu saw, Sapporo, okay great beer for a Sushi experience. I guess after looking over the Sushi offerings, it was hard to find a clean roll. Clean roll, to me means, no imitation crab in their roll. The one clean roll was the Spider Roll which we got 2 of. Of the 5 rolls we got the Spider was the favorite to me, I got the Hot Lava Roll not my favorite, but my wife ordered the Crazy Devil Roll it was good, and another clean roll was what my daughter got the 911 Roll. We all shared amongst the 3 of us. Something else missing was, miso soup or a ginger salad staples at Japanese Sushi places. Daughter's husband got Teriyaki Chicken, not a sushi guy Lol! I did get him to eat 1/2 a Spider Roll piece. Overall a 3.5 for Sushi, but ambiance 4.5. What I'd like more is clean sushi offerings, Naruto style, and a must have Unagi (Eel), Sweet Shrimp w/deep fried heads, Toro (Yellow Fin Tuna), and maybe some Alaskan Crab! Imitation crab is for newbie/beginners. Also too many offerings of cooked Tempura Shrimp added to many raw rolls. Elevate your Sushi Game!

I've lived in Anchorage for years and must've driven past Sushi Ya dozens of times without even realizing it was there. But now that I've found it, I'm so glad I did! My goal is to try all the sushi restaurants in Anchorage, and so far, this one is at the top of my list. The atmosphere here is perfect--calm, relaxing, and ideal for a date night, a romantic getaway, or just a quiet dinner where you can actually have a conversation. One of the first things I noticed (and appreciated) was how the menu is divided between hot rolls and cold rolls. A lot of sushi places make you figure that out on your own, so this little touch made ordering so much easier. Now, let's talk about the sushi itself--incredible. I love exotic rolls, and the ones I picked out delivered that perfect sushi experience--that feeling when you take the first bite and it's like a flavor explosion in your mouth. I honestly want to try every single roll on the menu at this point. The staff was also fantastic--super helpful in guiding me through the menu since it was my first time here. I always love pairing sushi with hot sake, and while they did have it, it was just a standard option. I would've loved to see more varieties because hot sake with cold sushi is one of the best combinations ever. Also, if your waiting for your date, there is not a place for you to wait inside. See you might as well wait in your car. They want to see you right away. One of the most unique and exciting things about Sushi Ya? The private dining setup. This is the first restaurant I've ever been to where you can pull down a blind and have complete privacy between you and your date. That was such a fun and intimate touch--it made the experience even more special. The prices were fair and what you'd expect for good sushi. Final Verdict: If you're looking for an amazing sushi spot in Anchorage, whether for a romantic night out or just a relaxing dinner, Sushi Ya is a must-visit. I'll definitely be back--and working my way through the entire menu!

Boyfriend roll & hidden dragon roll

Loved our dinner at sushi ya! Super delicious sushi. Obsessed with the hidden dragon roll i ordered, the fried eel on top was the perfect crisp. I know I'll continue to think about this roll!! Overall the service was good, we were seated quickly. But it was a bit difficult to get our waitresses attention!

    Miso soup
    Kelly D.

I wasn't super impressed with the sushi this round - I've only been a hand full of times but this round was ehhhhh. We started with miso soup, which was delish && some edamame. Then we got the monkey brain which was weird.... To say the least. It was way different from any that I've ever had before. I think the mushroom was just over cooked and too large for the dish - it was just not that great - we didn't eat all of it. The house fried rice was sup good tho! Sushi was good tho. But the service was on point! I'm usually a person who will like a place if the service was on point && the food was okay - I just know their food is better tho. Do better!

Very good sushi! Good service for a very busy weekend night, we got right in without a reservation. The atmosphere was very pleasant and chill. I really enjoyed my time there!

I walked in alone on a weeknight for dinner and was told to sit in the bar (I did ask for an actual table since several were open, but was told they were for reservations only...) While initially off-putting, I still got a great view from my bar table and great service from my server in the bar area! She was knowledgeable, made great recommendations and was attentive; not just to me, but alsoto the tables next to me that I could hear. The Cioppino was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. The portion size was perfect for me, though the table next to me did say they were still hungry. I also did appreciate the little table bar snacks (mixed nuts, raisins, etc.) - you don't see those much anymore. The hotel itself is a bit dated, it was a bit tough to find and it is certainly expensive, but the food itself was worth it. I will say other surprise was the wine menu - despite boasting a sommelier and wine cellar, I did honestly expect a larger selection. But I was very happy with the wine I selected regardless!

Orso was one of the few nicer restaurants in Anchorage that was open on a Sunday so we headed there after a very long day out at Seward. We arrived around 7:30pm. It wasn't super busy so we were seated immediately. Our server suggested some drink options based on what we liked (me: gin; my husband: bourbon). They were very good. We got the calamari appetizer - I loved the artichokes and thin lemon slices added in, plus both fried and fresh calamari in the dish. I got the Parmesan crusted halibut and my husband ordered the halibut with diavolo pasta. Both were very good. My dish came with asparagus and mushroom risotto; the risotto was pretty salty but still good. The fish was cooked well and I enjoyed it. Overall we had a very nice dinner at Orso, and I'd recommend if you're looking for a more special dinner.
