Dragon roll
Michelle L.

We were seated right away in a booth and our server pulled down the privacy screen. I have never seen that before. It made things a little more private. The food came out very quickly. I had the dragon roll. It's basically a California roll with eel on top. I enjoyed the crunch of the cucumber and the glaze was perfect and not too sweet. The sesame chicken was not on the menu but we were still able to order it. Even though it was coated in a honey sauce, the breaded chicken was still crunchy. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was very juicy and tender. The server was very nice and efficient.

Sashimi omasake

As someone who takes sushi seriously, I make it a point to try it wherever I go. So when a friend suggested this place, I thought--why not? The vibe was cozy and intimate, with some semi-private seating that added a nice touch. The lighting was dim, setting a mellow, romantic mood. Service was decent, though it took a bit for anyone to take our drink order. I shared a lychee sake--light, smooth, and something I'd definitely order again. For food, I went with the sashimi omakase (I think that's what it was called), which came with four types of sashimi and a choice between a California roll or a crunch roll. I picked the crunch roll. The sashimi was fresh and tasty, but the salmon stole the show--melt-in-your-mouth buttery. I kind of wish I had just gotten a full order of that. I also tried the Apollo 11 roll, but it didn't quite launch for me. Not bad, just not memorable--and my sushi standards are sky-high. It's a cute little spot, and I'm glad I checked it out. Would I come back? Maybe--but next time, I'm sticking with the sashimi. That fish was the star of the show.

Teriyaki chicken breast

Super cute interior and delicious food. My dad paid, so I don't know how much it cost. But I had chicken bento box meals (teriyaki chicken, rice, tempura shrimp & veggies, fried gyoza, cabbage). They were really yummy! Husband had the teriyaki chicken breast - very generous portion. We can't wait to come back!!

We hadn't been in a while, so we were invited by our daughter and her new husband out for dinner and a movie. I really liked the way they had the inside decor, it was really set up nicely. I was looking at the beverage menu saw, Sapporo, okay great beer for a Sushi experience. I guess after looking over the Sushi offerings, it was hard to find a clean roll. Clean roll, to me means, no imitation crab in their roll. The one clean roll was the Spider Roll which we got 2 of. Of the 5 rolls we got the Spider was the favorite to me, I got the Hot Lava Roll not my favorite, but my wife ordered the Crazy Devil Roll it was good, and another clean roll was what my daughter got the 911 Roll. We all shared amongst the 3 of us. Something else missing was, miso soup or a ginger salad staples at Japanese Sushi places. Daughter's husband got Teriyaki Chicken, not a sushi guy Lol! I did get him to eat 1/2 a Spider Roll piece. Overall a 3.5 for Sushi, but ambiance 4.5. What I'd like more is clean sushi offerings, Naruto style, and a must have Unagi (Eel), Sweet Shrimp w/deep fried heads, Toro (Yellow Fin Tuna), and maybe some Alaskan Crab! Imitation crab is for newbie/beginners. Also too many offerings of cooked Tempura Shrimp added to many raw rolls. Elevate your Sushi Game!

I've lived in Anchorage for years and must've driven past Sushi Ya dozens of times without even realizing it was there. But now that I've found it, I'm so glad I did! My goal is to try all the sushi restaurants in Anchorage, and so far, this one is at the top of my list. The atmosphere here is perfect--calm, relaxing, and ideal for a date night, a romantic getaway, or just a quiet dinner where you can actually have a conversation. One of the first things I noticed (and appreciated) was how the menu is divided between hot rolls and cold rolls. A lot of sushi places make you figure that out on your own, so this little touch made ordering so much easier. Now, let's talk about the sushi itself--incredible. I love exotic rolls, and the ones I picked out delivered that perfect sushi experience--that feeling when you take the first bite and it's like a flavor explosion in your mouth. I honestly want to try every single roll on the menu at this point. The staff was also fantastic--super helpful in guiding me through the menu since it was my first time here. I always love pairing sushi with hot sake, and while they did have it, it was just a standard option. I would've loved to see more varieties because hot sake with cold sushi is one of the best combinations ever. Also, if your waiting for your date, there is not a place for you to wait inside. See you might as well wait in your car. They want to see you right away. One of the most unique and exciting things about Sushi Ya? The private dining setup. This is the first restaurant I've ever been to where you can pull down a blind and have complete privacy between you and your date. That was such a fun and intimate touch--it made the experience even more special. The prices were fair and what you'd expect for good sushi. Final Verdict: If you're looking for an amazing sushi spot in Anchorage, whether for a romantic night out or just a relaxing dinner, Sushi Ya is a must-visit. I'll definitely be back--and working my way through the entire menu!

Boyfriend roll & hidden dragon roll
Molly W.

Loved our dinner at sushi ya! Super delicious sushi. Obsessed with the hidden dragon roll i ordered, the fried eel on top was the perfect crisp. I know I'll continue to think about this roll!! Overall the service was good, we were seated quickly. But it was a bit difficult to get our waitresses attention!

Miso soup
Kelly D.

I wasn't super impressed with the sushi this round - I've only been a hand full of times but this round was ehhhhh. We started with miso soup, which was delish && some edamame. Then we got the monkey brain which was weird.... To say the least. It was way different from any that I've ever had before. I think the mushroom was just over cooked and too large for the dish - it was just not that great - we didn't eat all of it. The house fried rice was sup good tho! Sushi was good tho. But the service was on point! I'm usually a person who will like a place if the service was on point && the food was okay - I just know their food is better tho. Do better!

Very good sushi! Good service for a very busy weekend night, we got right in without a reservation. The atmosphere was very pleasant and chill. I really enjoyed my time there!

I had been warned not to expect much from the culinary scene in Anchorage. Apparently those folks…read more(locals) have not yet been to Crush. Run, do not walk, to Crush! It was an exquisite experience from start to end. Bae who was our server was attentive, knowledgeable, warm, the consummate professional. The setting was beautiful with gorgeous photos (for sale) of wildlife including many adorable bears in the wild. The food was so delicious, I'm still thinking about it. Our party of 7 ordered a variety of items so I fortunately had a taste of a lot of different dishes: I don't usually drink but saw ice wine on the menu so had a delicious glass of the Kiona - 5/5 Appetizers - bread board - 5/5, focaccia sliced and generous servings of two spreads (maybe white bean hummus? something else?), roasted garlic in olive oil, red and green grapes, assorted nuts. this really raised the bar on what a bread board should be! - roasted rainbow harissa carrots - 5/5, a generous pile of roasted carrots of many colors, on a generous bed of spicy labneh (and I don't even like carrots that much) - crispy polenta - 5/5, a sizeable rectangular portion of crispy polenta topped with oven dried tomato, goat cheese, sherried cream sauce, with generous sides of sauteed mushrooms, sauteed spinach. This was an incredible dish and can see why they offer it with chicken because that would make for a tasty entree Entrees - grilled shrimp green curry with udon noodles (special) - 5/5, this was such an outstanding dish. Five generous grilled shrimp on skewers on top of the large bowl of udon noodles and bok choy. Super yum. Everyone else enjoyed their dishes, including the pan roasted halibut, the miso glazed cod, one of the salads (the large is VERY large). Dessert - crème brûlée with berries, candied walnuts, thyme - 4/5 solid offering - mascarpone cheesecake with sliced strawberries and blueberries - 5*/5 I'm not usually a cheesecake fan but this was so light and fluffy it was delicious and I love that the berries were not just a garnish but more generous portions - baked alaska - chocolate cake, gelato, chocolate ganache, meringue - 3/5, this was the only disappointing item of the evening. If you're in Alaska and baked alaska is on the menu, it should be the classic baked alaska and if the menu says it has meringue, it shouldn't be marshmallow fluff instead. 'nuff said. My compliments to the chef - Crush really transported us to another place with the quality and presentation of the food. I'd go back again and again!

Somehow in the time-warp that was COVID-19-20-21...I completely missed this place…read more I wasn't sure if I had imagined that there was a meadery in Anchorage or not? I am here to confirm that it is, in fact, REAL! It's located in a tiny industrial park nook that's easy to miss. It's pretty much behind the Petsmart/Phonatik strip mall. It's on a small road you've probably missed before: 82nd street. The folks that run this mead-making tap room are some of the most authentic, kind business owners I have ever met in Anchorage. They all have day jobs and making mead is their PASSION. It was rather slow last night when I visited, so I talked to them for almost an hour solid about mead and wine and beer and liquor laws and everything in between. And I'm an introvert! They were just so fun to talk to! I got a sampler, mainly of their drier meads. They will tell you themselves, that their passion is more in the sweeter meads. And, after talking to them, I can see why! The character of the individual honeys carries through much more in a sweeter mead. Dry meads lose a lot of the unique character that comes very various different honeys. So, they included a sweet mead too, and I enjoyed it! My favorite was probably the collab they did with Double Shovel. It was a "cyser" (mead-cider hybrid) and was served carbonated. And it was on the drier side. Great stuff! I look forward to coming back! You've likely been within

She was knowledgeable, made great recommendations and was attentive; not just to me, but alsoto the tables next to me that I could hear. The Cioppino was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. The portion size was perfect for me, though the table next to me did say they were still hungry. I also did appreciate the little table bar snacks (mixed nuts, raisins, etc.) - you don't see those much anymore. The hotel itself is a bit dated, it was a bit tough to find and it is certainly expensive, but the food itself was worth it. It wasn't super busy so we were seated immediately. Our server suggested some drink options based on what we liked (me: gin; my husband: bourbon). They were very good. We got the calamari appetizer - I loved the artichokes and thin lemon slices added in, plus both fried and fresh calamari in the dish. I got the Parmesan crusted halibut and my husband ordered the halibut with diavolo pasta. Both were very good.
