We've been frequenting Sushi West for about the last 10 years or so. This review is based on today's visit. I ordered my default, the Chicken Teriyaki plate. In the past, the chicken has been a bit dry, but today's chicken was moist and delicious. My wife ordered the Favorite Combo, which consists of chicken teriyaki, shrimp and vegetable tempura, California rolls, miso soup, salad, and steamed rice. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal. Nothing would make me return. I went for lunch and tried this based on Yelp and distance to my work since I was craving sushi. I tried several things and wasn't excited about any of it. The quality wasn't there for me. The ambiance inside is def no thrills so I wish I would have done take out instead. I feel like some days this place is great and other days it falls a bit flat... so I had to rate it somewhere in the middle... hence the 3 stars. Now I like that they have a pretty expansive menu, covering sashimi / rolls / teriyaki / etc ... which is good if you're going with a group that has different tastes and dietary restrictions. The last time I went I had their 3 fish sashimi bowl. The cut of the fish was a little too thick for my taste, but it was still pretty good. I have been here a few other times and have tried various rolls and teriyaki. I think everything I've had there has been decent, but nothing has wowed. Love this place for quick, cheap and big portions of Japanese food. I love getting the combos since you get a variety of options to mix and match. The sesame chicken truly lives up to its reputation of being the best seller! So well seasoned and juicy. Simply to die for. The tempura is crispy and soft. The dipping sauce for the tempura is light and sweet. The spicy tuna roll is so clean and fresh. The rice is chewy and fluffy. When I'm craving something warm, the udon is a great option. This place is simply amazing in so many ways, from it's reasonable prices, varied options and generous portions. read more

I used to come here after school when I was still in middle school and it was my first time back since then. I was a bit skeptical about what the food would be like after such a long time but I was not disappointed. The food was great. I ordered a Philadelphia roll and was extremely satisfied with the balance of fish, cream cheese, and avocado. I also had the beef curry rice plate and was very pleased by it as well. Curry is one of my favorite dishes and I was not disappointed. And the portion size was absolutely massive for the price they sold it at. I'd definitely order both things again! I was immediately welcomed in by Karen who was running the cashier. She was extremely kind and had such a positive and welcoming vibe to her, constantly smiling and laughing with all the customers. I also had a great interaction with Gabriel who was also very friendly. The staff were so open to conversation which made the experience all the more pleasing. As a local, I've been coming to this sushi establishment for many years and rarely have I ever left disappointed. However, today might be the last day I'll come here for a while unless management changes. The place is small, pretty clean, can get quite crowded at times, and you buss your own table. The service there has always been mid, staff will smile and be polite to you, but they aren't as warm and welcoming as other restaurants in the area...but if you're there just say to eat quietly and don't want to talk to anyone, this works. The main reason I'm knocking major points down is for the food and its presentation. First off, I know inflation affects everyone, but Sushi West has drastically sized down their portions and overall quality. I ordered the #26, which is my usual order, and was surprised to find how small their portions were on top of it now being a little over $16. Mind you, this combo is their most expensive. It comes with white rice, pickled radishes, fish cake, tamagoyaki, four slices of tuna, sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki salmon, four pieces of CA roll, potato salad, veggie eggroll, and 3 pieced of tempura, one shrimp, one zucchini, and one sweet potato, and miso soup. From someone who has eaten this combo a number of times, I can tell you they drastically cut down the number of pieces they give you and the quality is now sub par. I used to have 4 pieces of sesame chicken, but this time, I only had 2 small ones which weren't as flavorful as it used to be. They also cut down the number of teriyaki chicken they give and they gave me the thinnest piece of teriyaki salmon I've ever seen--it was so sad looking. I also remember getting more than 3 pieces of tempura, which is one of my favorite parts of that combo, so again, another example of them scaling down while upcharging. Furthermore, they used to give two pieces of the tamagoyaki, but now it's only one and it's a lot darker in color. There was also barely any potato salad, which is another letdown. The amount of white rice they give you is also less, but I was ok with that because rice can be really filling. Before, they used to give you way more pickles and there was another variety of pickles they used to include (green cumcunber). However, the most embarrassing part of all is that fact they are now charging people 15 cents for wasabi. You read that right, they're charging people for wasabi. For a sushi establishment. A place where you buy sushi. I can understand not being wasteful and not including it in every combo in case people don't eat it, but there's a way to go about it: give it for free for customers who actually request for it (meaning they will eat it and won't waste it). You know, for the people who had sushi included in their bento's/combo's and paid $16 for? I essentially paid for sushi that didn't include wasabi, which to me, is a crime for any sushi establishment. The sushi itself was also so measly and not very fresh. Good sushi doesn't smell fishy after all...the one I was served did. I understand why restaurants need to up charge things because of the changes in our economy, but reducing the quality of what I'm paying for is not something I can overlook. Sushi West, I know there are other sushi restaurants in the Bixby area, but you guys were there longer and it's obvious y'all are not catching up to the competition. This is embarrassing. read more

I am here at the restaurant eating. I am quite disappointed with my experience. Here is why: The food is ok. Nothing spectacular. Once I got my food I had to get up four time when I noticed things were missing. I got up for sriracha, then for wasabi then for chopsticks finally for a napkin. My new go to for a quick sushi fix. Oh thank goodness I stumbled upon this place. What an extensive menu for a "semi-fast food" type place. I absolutely loved my sushi/rolls. They made all the substitutions I wanted with no problem. It is always hard to find a place that will make the rolls with brown rice so bonus points for this place. Everyone is friendly. Food is prepared quickly. Presentation is nice. Can't ask for much more than that. Since I discovered this place about a week ago, I have already been back. So yummy! I am local who frequents my neighborhood's businesses to support and enjoy! I've been to Sushi West a few times and until recently i remembered why this place isn't my go to for sushi or teriyaki! I go to Coffee Bean next door all the time and told myself to maybe give Sushi West another try....well I did and the customer service was horrible! I walk up to the register and the cashier, a young lady with a pink apron doesn't greet me at all. I had to say hello to her and she said it very low and monotone! Secondly, I place my order, hand her my card and she hands it back along with the receipt and says nothing! I turn around to leave and she says "o you have to sign the receipt" SERIOUSLY??!! You hand me my receipt and don't say anything but as soon as I say thank you and walk away, you tell me to sign it!! TERRIBLE!! Also when I finally get my order to go, she hands it to me with an attitude and says "here's your order!" No thank you, no have a nice day! NOTHING!! RUDE RUDE RUDE!! I was too hungry to even get into it with her but this place will NEVER EVER get my money again!! I don't see how this place stays in business with the rude, low class customer service. I had been a long time customer until recently. The food quality: flavor, portion size, and ingredients they used have gone downhill pretty badly. Last time I ordered a 3 item plate with salmon teriyaki, sesame chicken and something else ( it will be my last time for sure). They gave me a tiny piece of salmon, broken too without any teriyaki sauce. The fish itself was not seasoned at all to begin with. The sesame chicken was overly fried, tough, chewy and dry. Where do I begin.. I found Sushi West one day when I was wandering around the neighborhood we recently purchased a home in nearby. We hadn't moved it yet but I wanted to check out the area. I ordered a sushi roll and some spring rolls and edamame. I ordered three items because I was real hungry and was expecting only one to not fill me up. Come to my surprise it was a generous amount of food. The edamame was a generous size, the roll was 8 pieces and the spring roll order came with three AND a salad on the side. All three items were excellent and I knew that I would be back. Over the short course of living in LB the past 6 months Sushi West has become my favorite spot. They are so friendly, fast, consistent and there are SO many options on the menu, My other go to favorite when I'm not feeling sushi is the teriyaki chicken bowl. It's a very generous portion and it's only about $8!! I can not recommend this place enough. So satisfied every time :) read more

This is my go to because it is very similar to a chirashi bowl. A chirashi bowl is an assortment of raw seafood on top of sushi rice at my Japanese restaurant. Haven't been in a while but I ordered for a pick up. They said it would be ready within 15 minutes and when I got there 15 minutes later, it was ready. So the prices for the combos have gone up since the last time I've been here. I don't have a problem with that since that's just what's happening everywhere. My problem is why are the portions going down? If prices go up since ingredients are costing more, why aren't you putting out the same amount of food? That seems like you're double dealing when you charge more but give less. The food was not as flavorful as I remembered and it didn't leave me with the feeling that I want to go back for more. Sushi West is more of a casual Japanese cafe located in the old Trader Joe's center on Atlantic Avenue in Bixby Knolls. Although not at all what I expected, I was pleasantly surprised. Inside, the space feels and looks like a fast food restaurant, but it's clean, well kept and is full of helpful and friendly employees. Colorful photographic menus line the countertop and walls above the cashier area where you will place your order. There are plenty of cooked options for those that don't like sushi Once you decide what you want, you will place your order, take your number, and pour your own soft drinks. No beers and no saké. I decided on the Crunchy Rolls which were both delicious and beautifully presented. The only downside was that that I like to enjoy a good Japanese beer with my sushi. I usually have an eye for telling what places are authentic and worth going to but I was so hungry and desperate that I didn't listen to my radar and ended up here. I've learned my lesson because let me just say, major yikes. I ordered their salmon teriyaki combo which also comes with a tempura mix, side salad, miso super, and six piece spicy tuna roll. While the meal looked like it had so much promise, there were so many things that went wrong. First off, the main entree of the dish was pretty dry and lacked its own flavor. The teriyaki sauce managed to save the salmon but it was so unevenly distributed that it was probably on 25% of the fish and 75% on the rice. The tempura mix was consisted of a variety of things tempura-fied (asparagus, potato, shrimp, zucchini, etc) but like it was so lackluster and all the contents inside didn't feel fresh. The sushi was mediocre and didn't have anything special to it. I didn't like how their to-go container made it so the rice would just stick to the sides and basically be a lost cause. Just when I thought there was nothing else to be disappointed in, I found a piece of hair embedded in a clump of rice. I usually never complain about food and I feel pretty bad for having to write this review but I want others to be aware of what they're getting themselves into. Something's UPPPP!! I've gone to Sushi West for years- literally since 2007; it's 2023 and we are literally in a long term relationship so I like I KNOW HER, KNOW HER...anyways recently within the last year the service has shifted. The food is still good, but they don't take my order over the phone. I've waited for more than 10 minutes on several occasions and they don't eventually answer. I have to go in and place an order. I haven't done door dash or anything else, but at least give me a reason you don't take phone orders. And last time, I did tell them that no one even answered and they say that their phone is having issues. Last week when I went in, I was very bothered by the experience and was going to talk to the people at the front that answer the phones- but I calmed down and contained myself because clearly- NO ONE- literally NO ONE that works there was smiling. Not when I arrived, not when I left, not as I watched them from afar greeting other guests, so clearly it wasn't me- something tells me that they're being overworked or someone is on them pretty hard. This is where I told myself "Something is UPP!!".. with shifty eyes.. I don't go to places where anyone isn't happy being there for any reason, it compromises quality and the overall general experience. Plus they don't have anything special any other Sushi place doesn't have; except their cheaper prices. I love Sushi West, but I think it's time we broke up! So I was craving sushi and I did not no where to go. The closest place to me was Sushi West. I walked in and did not know what to order so the cashier gave me a menu and told me that I could have a seat. After looking at the variety they had, I decided to go with their #6 which included teriyaki salmon (i asked for the teriyaki sauce on the side), a salad, miso soup, a serving of rice, a spicy tuna roll and fried shrimp/veggie tempura... ALL FOR $11.47! The quality of the food, quantity they give, and how they provided my food in a timely manner is the reason why I am giving this place 5 stars. Also, very clean bathroom! In terms of parking, Sushi West is located in the same plaza where Coffee Bean is. Trader Joes used to be located in this plaza and is no longer located there. Because the spot where Trader Joes used to be in currently vacant, finding parking is not an issue. read more
