The food here is super fresh and always tasty! To go packaging is excellent. We love the bento boxes and favorite combo!

I come here all the time. All the time. I usually get a 3 item combo for ~$16. Today I decided to try the Alpha Roll for ~$14. It is about twice the price of a spicy tuna roll, but the one I received was VERY small and VERY thin on the tuna and avocado on top (See photo). Two of the rolls almost have nothing on them at all. It was ridiculous. I almost demanded my money back, but I hate wasting food. I cannot recommend ordering individual sushi here until they serve rolls worth the price tag. I've ordered the Aloha Rolls elsewhere before and were full after. You get maybe half the size for the same price here. I'll still come here for the combo plate but the individual sushi rolls are a ripoff. read more

I always leave this restaurant happy sp increased the rating to 5 stars from 4. They have been consistent for 10+ years i have been going their with their food & friendliness. Glad this restaurant is within walking distance from home. There seem to be many bother regulars coming in to dine there as well as pick up their dinners to go. Their teriyaki, California rolls, & sushi are very good. My dad, who was a big sashimi & sushi fan, always enjoyed their food & marveled there is a good Japanese restaurant in this non-Asian neighborhood. When my parents were alive, I had sushi platters to go many times & the freshness stayed even after 30+ minutes of traveling. I will continue to enjoy this neighborhood eatery. Thank you for maintaining your quality & taste!! read more

My boyfriend and I ordered food from here via third party app. The food looked delicious and very presentable for sushi to-go. But how are we supposed to eat our food with no utensils? No spoons, forks, or even chopsticks provided. No napkin. Only soy sauce (for the sushi) was provided. Luckily we have spoons, forks, and chopsticks on hand. The tuna sushi and salmon sashimi was delicious. My boyfriend ordered sesame chicken with rice. He seemed to enjoy it since he ate it all. But next time provide utensils when customers order to-go from your restaurant & even third party apps! read more

Came here on a Friday around 11:30 right when it opened fairly busy. Fountain drinks. To order is like cafeteria style. You order up front counter wait for your number then get a tray and grab your own sauces and napkins. Once done throw food and leave tray next to garbage. Ordered the salmon pieces it was good size taste was okay. The spicy tuna it wasn't spicy and a bit fishy taste. The miso soup was good. The sushi was at room temp not cold as I've had in other sushi spots. And since they grill also inside it gets warm. All in all it was an interesting way to eat and for taste to price it was okay. Wish they had waiters it felt more like a to go place. read more

This place is in our regular takeout rotation. The sushi is good quality, and the bento boxes are large enough to fill you up or even share. I usually go for the salmon sushi and spicy tuna rolls, while my partner gets the bento boxes. This time around, we shared a bento box that had everything: fish, two different types of chicken, a California roll, sashimi, salad, potato salad, tempura, and more. It was definitely enough to fill both of us. Sushi West is a must try if you're in the area and looking for a quick, good quality bite. read more

Fast, casual restaurant serving delicious sushi and Japanese food. The restaurant is a good place for a quick fix for your sushi cravings. The prices with not break your budget. Love the combo items, freshly made and taste home style. My faves are the teriyaki salmon and the sesame chicken. The combo comes with a miso soup and a salad. The staff are wonderful. They greet you when you walk in with a smile and thank you when you leave. The food comes promptly and give you everything you need. Clean dining area, tables too close to each other so it's a bit claustrophobic when it's busy. read more

Fixed my sushi craving in a pinch! The workers were very kind and honestly on a Saturday around lunch time it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be! However, I can see why people would say order ahead. The Aloha roll was pretty good, the gyoza was probably my favorite part though! They have that nailed. Their chicken was alittle dry and their ginger looked alittle less fresh. But I would come back for the kind service, I bet some food is just hit or miss depending on the time of day! Plenty of parking! read more

12 years later I'm still up in here , sushi west is the go to spot ! They accept card now! They have reasonable prices especially in this economy , it's always busy here . You can dine in with family or solo at their little bar section or take out ! But like I said they are always busy ! Love their crunchy roll and eel roll and sesame chicken ! read more

I pass this place frequently and decided to give it a try. I went in and placed a to go order for a Salmon Bento Box. Inside it was not that busy but I could tell that they had a lot of delivery orders. I waited 22 minutes for my order. I brought it home and At a glance was not overly impressed with presentation. I tasted the salmon and it lacked flavor even though it was smothered with teriyaki sauce. The miso soup was ok. Inside had seating and a sushi bar if dining alone. Beverages are canned with exception of hot green tea. Traditional Japanese snacks at register. Ample parking in the lot outside. Will I return, probably not anytime in the near future. read more

The best spot for a quick casual Japanese fix! I got the two item combo with beef and shrimp tempura and it reminded me of a home cooked meal made with love. The beef was so tender and the tempura was very crispy. And idk what it is about Japanese rice but it's so good! The combo also comes with miso soup and a salad which I didn't mind eating. More food for me! The people at the register and behind the counter were very kind and greet you coming in and out. The food came out promptly, and everything that you need is provided to you. If you're around the area, stop by and grab a bite! They have sushi too which isn't too bad. read more

Sushi West - 2 Item Combo Plates with beef and shrimp tempura - Sushi Bars Near Me - Long Beach, California

Sushi West has the best portions for their pricing! Their combo plates are so delicious and perfect for lunch. From the outside, the Sushi West gives a modern vibe, but from the inside--the place is like a combination of ancient Japan and a modern restaurant. They have TVs that hang from the ceiling, occasionally playing Japanese commercials while you eat. It sets the vibe of a modern Japanese restaurant when you walk in. You select your combo from the options above. Make sure to keep the reciept! It comes with your order number. My favorite to order is a number 2 the tempura with sesame chicken, rice, and California roll. As you can see, the bowl is large--comes with an additional salad. You wait for a moment until they call the number. After you have been called, you get to sit down and enjoy your meal. The experiance never fails me, and the staff are always so kind. I remember during my visit, one of the staff members complimented my Kuromi bag and the moment was just so wholesome! As always, thank you Sushi West for the wonderful experiance! Me and my family love this restaurant, we go here all the time and would love to continue to come again. read more

It's a nice little warm place. And when I mean warm it is warm inside this place. They should turn on the AC. But the food is good. And the portions are great. I really like this place. But my complaint is if Mc Donald's doesn't ask for tip why should you? And the reason I say that is I order at the counter, pick up my own food at the counter and then I have to BUS my own plates. They shouldn't have to ask for tips. Specially when the cashier gives you a look like "no tip". At the end if I am in that direction and u want sushi Yes I will stop by and get something. But I won't go out of my way to go buy sushi there. read more

Had a hankering for the sesame chicken. So, I ordered the three item combo (sesame chicken, California roll, tempura). 1130am, and they must've used the chicken from yesterday and threw it back in the deep fryer because my jaw is sore! It's SO chewy it's unenjoyable. waste of a meal. read more

The food is amazing and so is the service. It's always clean, they're always playing nice music. They even got more drinks! If Sushi West ever shuts down, I'll starve to death. This is all I eat! When my mom had surgery this is the only food she could keep down without getting sick. You'll love it! Sushi West is bestie for life~ The banana soda? It's so f**king GOOD. Ugh. It's crack. Nothing crazy really. I wouldn't go again. But it wasn't terrible. Staff is nice. Pretty standard place.

I wanted something similar to Hawaiian food. A touch of Beef Bowl and LL's Hawaiian food. Ordered a Beef with Rice & Catsu Chicken with RIce and Salad Combo. I was impressed on the portion size received. You get your bang for your buck! Food was delicious and fresh. They give free water away as well which tasted clean, not like sink water. They do not have fountain sodas, only soda cans for sale which is not a big deal! I recommend this place, staff is ok.. they don't talk much but they treat you with respect. Plenty of parking but seating is not to much. It is first come first serve. Better food than other sushi joints at affordable pricing. read more

We really enjoyed this quaint restaurant tucked in the middle Bixby Knolls. We split the Wave combo, which contained 6 nigiri of 3 different fish, all were great cuts, and a roll of your choosing. Then the create your own combo where we got the must have sesame chicken, tempura mix and spicy salmon roll. Everything was great! On top of the great food, the staff was friendly and was constantly cleaning the restaurant. Highly recommended! read more

We stopped coming here a few years back. The quality of the sushi went downhill and was not good. My mother, who recently had a fall, decided she wanted a salmon sashimi bowl, so I came here. While I was waiting for my order I witnessed sometging that would never make me go bac. The sushi chef with his bare hands, making sushi, grabbed the restroom keys from a woman and hung them up and then went back to making sushi. I think he should have washed his hands. People do not wash their hands and those things fall on the ground. It was pretty of gross. I will never order from them again. read more

This was my first time here I was looking for a sushi place. It's a very big unusual menu different than what I'm normally used too. I got the I think it's called a hawaiin roll very well presented for Take out it's salmon avacado on a California roll. I also got salmon skin roll no eel sauce. The salmon was fresh and the salmon skin was smoky which I liked. The person I was with got some special. It was a little loud in there but the cashier was very sweet since it was my first time. Very nice open airy place. Lots of people working there so they were churning out things at a good pace. My allergies are wheat gluten dairy and soy they were accommodating. read more

Quick service on a hectic night. I will definitely go again. The staff were very helpful.

Stopped by sushi west while running errands. Located in the same complex as the Edgar and James goodwill store, right across the parking lot. There is a good size parking lot. Inside, it is fast food like, where you place/pay for your order at the counter. They will then call out your order number for pick up. You also self bus. I really wanted to try their sashimi without ordering too much food, so tried the tri color donburi bowl (tuna, yellowtail, salmon). It is a beautiful dish (with an orchid flower for presentation). The rice was cooked perfectly, with the fish slices on top....and with things typically in a maki roll: avocado slice, cucumber slivers, ginger, nori, sprouts, wasabi. It came with a small bowl of miso soup, all packaged really well. The fish was good, though as always, least impressed with the yellowtail (sometimes I wonder if I've ever had really fresh yellowtail before...all of it seems average). It has a nice seating area, with a dedicated bar for those who want to sit close to the chef while he works. Drinks are from the cooler and there is a self service water station right next to it. It is a large menu and the open kitchen is visible right from the dining area. read more

Great food, informal ambiance and fast customer service. This restaurant has been in business for what it seems like an eternity but the quality hasn't changed. I love this place especially the spider rolls. I have eaten there over the years and they never disappoint.

Reliable ToGo system I've been coming to this place for 10+ years now? I'm glad this place persevered through the pandemic. I still haven't dine there in a loooong time, but these past several years I've only place my order to go, to pick up prior to going to work. ~~~~~Service: Indeed I've seen so many faces behind the counter, but the consistency of customer-service continues to remain strong. There is an online order option through grub hub (see website). But all they need is your name & phone number to place a ToGo order via phone call. ~~~~~Food: I highly recommend the Favorite Combo, from my previous review it's definitely not $8.50 anymore. Due to inflation and all, i believe the price stands at $14.50...still it hasn't stopped me from changing my mind. Included to the Favorite Combo are: - Rice & Miso Soup - Teriyaki Chicken - Salad (dressing on the side) - Mix Tempura (2 Shrimps, String bean, Zucchini, & potato; sauce on the side) - California Roll (4pcs) - Wasabi & Ginger ~~~~~Advice/Miscellaneous: - Parking can be a challenge during the lunch rush. - It always takes 15min till food is ready for pickup. read more

I have to update/change my rating because my recent experiences were not as good as before. Recent Cons: - Food is not ready on time. - One time, I was on hold for 35 minutes AFTER they hung up on me once already. I was still on hold when I arrived at the restaurant to order in person. - Quality of their Sesame Chicken (threw out the whole thing), Sashimi and the rolls also went down. I hope they'll improve because I used to really like this place. read more
