A solid 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I have a goal of trying all the new sushi AYCEs near me and finally tried this place. Pluses -clean, modern interior dining area with friendly and attentive service. -Hot food- all the grilled fish (hamachi, salmon kamas, and mackerel- you got 1 each pp), shrimp tempura, bulgogi were delicious -nigiri fish quality was fine -seared salmon and ono garlic nigiri Deltas -Too much rice in nigiri and rolls -No sashimi option (owner came by for feedback and said they would work on it in future) -Exotic salmon roll flavor was good but the shrimp tempura in all the rolls were kinda hard -salmon skin roll was dry I'd come back for the grilled fish and hopefully sashimi comes to the menu soon!
My friends were helping me with an art project and I decided to treat them out for lunch for my assistance. I know I wanted sushi and this was nearby their house, so we decided to give it a try. They have two types of AYCE options, one that is only available weekdays and late night weekdays, and another that is all the time. The price difference is like $10 per person. The menu is different, since the cheaper lunch menu are all the grey choices while the more expensive choice gives you red options as well. There were a lot of items we tried, so my review will be on the overall experience, including which rolls are my favorite and least favorite. Service was good and attentive. Our waiter(s) checked in on us constantly today. And they always filled our cups with water (or in my case lemonade) The good choices: I really liked the seared Tuna and seared Salmon nigiri. The 49er roll was also good, though it had a lot of imitation crab in it. The least favorite: Pretty much the other rolls. There were a lot of rice. And I mean, they pack the rolls with a lot of rice. The Inari was made into a roll, and it was not the best. I did taste Inari, but I had so much rice it masked the fermented flavor I expected from my tofu. The bulgogi roll was good, but too much rice and cold rice + warm meat feels weird to eat something like bulgogi. Overall, I am glad to give this place a try. I just wish they had sashimi as an option normally (the "No Rice" choice makes it see like that, but it was unclear). And I hope they can tone down on the rice next time. Still, would give it a try again.
Best AYCE sushi spot in the bay! Massive menu, fresh rolls made to order, quick service, great food quality. I was really impressed at everything here. Often I go to AYCE sushi spots and everything just starts tasting the same. But there's so many different food items here, everything was like a palate cleanser. Will definitely be going back here
Had wanted to try this place for awhile but was not too impressed when I finally got to visit. Came on a Friday night and we were sat immediately. Staff was friendly and explained the menu to us. A decent amount of options to choose from but I mainly stuck with the nigiri menu. Garlic ono and ono nigiri were my favorite; however, I didn't like the amount of rice that came with each nigiri. Some other items we chose included a Philly roll, crispy rice, butter roll and tnt roll. To be honest, nothing stood out. We also ordered the nachos which was...interesting. pretty sure the chips it came with were Costco tortilla chips and canned nacho cheese. It was definitely interesting for a sushi spot. Service was a bit on the slower side and it was difficult to get in additional orders, so we were left waiting for long periods of time between each order. Not sure if it was the manager or owner, but we noticed that after he came in, servers were more attentive with checking on us and food came out faster. I would be willing to try again, but not something I'd go out of my way for.
Always happy to find another AYCE Sushi spot in the East Bay. It was $34.95/per person but if you come for lunch or late night Monday-Thursday then it's only $27 each! In this economy, that's a steal! Sushi Tsunami has a really modern feel when you enter & their menu also reflects that vibe. This isn't your regular-degular AYCE Sushi. Sushi Tsunami had some very unique and almost innovative dishes on their menu. The No Rice Naho plate was so fun and I will definitely be making that at home the next time I host dinner. The No Rice Burrito was a great ideal, but I was not a huge fan of a regular tortilla with raw fish. I think maybe if it were a tempura burrito or some kind of cooked fish it would work better. BUT- the concept is awesome! The nigiri selection was excellent. They even had Ono (Wahoo) which I've never seen at another AYCE Sushi spot. It reminded me a lot of escolar (white tuna) becsuse of how buttery it was! The Yubu (or stuffed Inari) were humongous and very filling, but definitely worth it! They were filled to the brim with whatever you choose and had just the right amount of rice. We also ordered the cheese bulgogi fries and corn cheese because we just had to see if it was just the sushi that was good or if it was everything on the menu. I can confidently say that everything Sushi Tsunami offers was worth the drive from Oakland to Pleasant Hill. The staff was also super friendly. I enjoyed getting to learn how this is the second location they've opened and they plan to continue expanding if they continue to do well. There is usually a limit on how many items you can order per round but when they aren't too busy they will let you order a few extra items at a time! I will definitely be back, but this time with some friends for the full experience!
The staff was very nice and attentive when we first sat down. They explained how the all you can eat menu works and what you get. It's a pretty good deal if you're really hungry, but the rolls for the most part are mostly rice, and it's a ton of rice under the nigiri. The ambiance is sort of up scale, a lot more than Damo was in the same location, but it's nothing crazy. The chairs along the wall are sort of tight, so don't sit along the wall if you can avoid it. I'd pass on the egg rolls and udon next time, they were not that good. The gyoza, edamame and house salad are all good choices for starters. The sake list is good, the premium ginjo was great. The non rice rolls looked good, however, they brought me the wrong one twice - so I gave up on those. The fried roll we got, the Golden Gate was probably the best roll we tried. The nigiri fish was good, but too much rice. I'll come back and try it again to see if we can get my orders right.
Sushi Tsunami is a solid 4/5! They had a good selection of delicious sushi. I just wish that they used less rice per serving. All the rice makes you full faster, and sashimi isn't on the menu. I wish I could say you could just pick off the rice, but you get charged for all unfinished food, including rice. Service is really slow. Expect an over 30min wait time to be seated. And prepare to wait even longer for the food. But honestly, the food is so good, it really didn't bother me that much.
Was in the area with my partner, and both of us were craving AYCE sushi at 4pm. We initially went to Fuji, our go-to for affordable, good quality nigiri- CLOSED on a Monday. That was disappointing. We then drove to Muu AYCE sushi and bbq... $60 PER PERSON?? Unfortunately way out of budget for us. Then my partner yelp'd "ayce sushi near me" and low and behold, Sushi Tsunami popped up. I'd never heard of this spot but the reviews were decent and at this point we were starving. Boy was I pleased! The best things in life come when you don't expect them! The ambient lighting created a nice calm atmosphere despite the typical chaos that comes with AYCE sushi spots. For $35/person, we were able to order practically everything on the menu from appetizers to nigiri to specialty rolls and even dessert (drinks are an additional cost). We ordered three rounds of food from all sections of the menu. There's a lot to cover so I won't go through all the items one by one, but as a salmon and tuna lover, my FAVORITE picks were the seared salmon nigiri, the zenbu roll, and the exotic salmon roll. The kama was crunchy and seasoned well, the edamame were super crisp and tasty and the beef bulgogi hot plate was a nice palette cleanser to the inevitable fish fatigue. The reason behind the star deduction was I found the rice for all the nigiri to be too vinegar-y for my liking. Regardless, I would definitely come back for the food and the good price!
I was in town on business for a few days and wanted to pick out on sushi so I went to this all you can eat place. I sat at the bar and Service was prompt. I stuck to nigiri and an Asahi beer so I can't say much about the other reviews that mentioned the amount of rice in the maki rolls. Notably good were the salmon and the bluefin tuna. The Cajun spiced salmon and tuna are not really worth getting because it's just the regular fish with a dash of Cajun all-purpose seasoning. It actually kind of kills the flavor. I also really like eel so I had a few pieces of it and if you like eel, it's very good. The salmon skin was plentiful and just a little bit chewy like I like it. For the amount of food that I ate, the price was reasonable, but you should go hungry or you won't get your value out of the oil you can eat. The à la carte prices are kind of high, so don't go for just a few pieces. The beer prices are very fair, especially considering the imports and they have a couple of Japanese beers on draft.
Mountain of Rice Price: $35!!! Food 8/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Sushi Tsunami is totally worth it! For $35, their menu is huge and the fish is super fresh. They even have Korean BBQ--we tried the corn cheese and bulgogi. Definitely go for the nigiri to get your money's worth. The sushi rolls were amazing too, and the rice was surprisingly good. They also have rice-free sushi if you're watching carbs. It sucks that they don't have sashimi. We got so full that we had to hide some rice to avoid the extra fee for leftovers.
Sushi Tsunami is the newly opened AYCE sushi restaurant in Pleasant Hill. They have two price points lunch at $27 and the all day / dinner premium price. The interior is modern with nice padded chairs. On the day we went there were about 7 occupied tables for lunch. We chose the premium dinner price $35 which includes the entire menu. What caught our eye was their no rice rolls. These rolls were wrapped on the outside with cucumber. Not all items are good. Their spicy edamame was just boiled edamame with sriracha. The quality of the fish was ok but they give you a lots of rice in their nigiri. Service was good. The food orders came out quickly. Plenty of parking in the large shopping center parking lot.
It was my first time visiting this place and I'm in love. Great food, service and a variety of different menu items. I got the AYCE sushi. It was $35 per person. My BF and I would each order a different roll or 2. I ordered a few different styles of rolls. I never had sushi without rice, but surprisingly I really liked it. (I had the Zenbu & crazy cucumber rolls) The restaurant is small, so I can see it could get crowded on a Friday & Saturday evening. It's in a big strip mall so the parking lot is big. So go hungry and enjoy some delicious food
First time trying this AYCE sushi place. We will for sure be back, and bring friends. We appreciate getting to order from a server instead of being forced to use a QR code to order. It's a much more personal and friendly experience this way. Much more conducive to conversation with your party. Our server was very pleasant and prompt to check back about ordering more and drink refills The restaurant and restroom was clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking and easy access without stairs or steps We started out with some apps, spicy edamame, agedasi tofu, and gyoza. Next time we will do the garlic edamame- the spicy one had both garlic and spice- and we both agreed we would like just garlic best. We do like spice normally- but it was the spicy garlic combo that was off for us The tofu was 2 bigger pieces- I've tried it here now, and don't need it again. I prefer it smaller pieces with more of the outer crunch My hubby liked the gyoza- he said they did the perfect crunch, and cooking time on them. We ordered a few more apps to try as well miso soup for 2, egg rolls and shrimp tempura Nice miso soup- hubby loved the crunch and flavor of the egg rolls and ordered more, shrimp tempura was perfect as well. Want to try the ramen and the poke next time. I tried the baked mussel- yummy- personally I would ask for no sauce, but I can see why this is popular. For nigiri we had the spicy scallop- amazing Garlic Ono- yummy Surf clam- chewy- not my fav. Want to try the Cajun tuna, basil tuna and jalapeño albacore next time Want to try the tiny next time- photos on menu look yummy My hubby really enjoyed the chicken katsu- cooked perfectly and with a yummy breading We tried the crazy cucumber roll- no rice- I love this- more flavor and not filling up As much on rice. Not sure if they do 1/2 rolls- but that would be a way to try more. So many things we wanted to try, but were too full- lily the burrito, nacho. Hubby loved his spicy tuna hand roll We always order a spicy tuna roll at every sushi place- kinda our test the rolls here standard roll. This one was amazing and didn't disappoint. Hubby wanted to order a second one- but I asked to try other ones to experience them. We tried the shrek roll- I wasn't crazy about the lemon avocado sauce on top... but I'm sure that's me Hubby ordered the adios fire roll- but didn't find it to be spicy The hamachi Kama was one of the bet be have had- very fresh and prepared well Again- so many things we wanted to come back and try- we didn't order any baked rolls or any from the fresh rolls section. Phew wish I could give more stars lol. We must have came at a great time because service was amazing. Sushi quality is a lot better than I expected. I eat a lot of sushi and this quality was great!! This is the first ayce that actually had other things on the menu other than sushi. My fiancée doesn't eat fish and there was enough on there like ramen chicken teriyaki fried rice. The KFC chicken was absolutely delicious!! Crispy and sticky sauce was a hit with the whole table. The ambiance is typical. Tables it's a bit echoey lol but maybe that's because it was only us and 1 other table. Bathrooms are clean but beczreful in the women's if you don't move for two minutes the light shuts off haha read more

It was my first time here, I didn't know what to expect. The food was amazing ! All the rolls and hand rolls. We're just so tasty. Our waitress was nice and attentive came up multiple times before last call to get our orders in and made sure we didn't leave hungry. Only complaints are lack of fountain drinks, and fried rice wasn't good and chairs are uncomfortable on your back. Ill definitely be coming here often read more
Such great food at Sushi Tsunami, everything was high quality for an AYCE restaurant, came with a friend, and we got the lunch price. The $35 price unlocks everything in the menu which I would recommend if you are with a bigger party of friends but we came here for just a quick lunch-- The service was excellent, it's like the server knew exactly when we wanted to order more food. Ambiance was also great, such a chill vibe, and I would recommend coming here for it a group of friends for drinks and a good time. read more

Super excited to hear of a new AYCE sushi opening up in the area! We came right when they opened on a weekday and got seated right away. The space was very clean and modern. We opted for their lunch special ($26.95), which is limited to only the black text on their menu. The red text is their Tsunami Sushi for $34.95. We were satisfied with their lunch special menu and they don't have a limit of how much you can order every round. For an AYCE restaurant, the nigiri was fresh and the rolls melted in your mouth! I appreciate all the appetizer and hot food options as well. I'd recommend the Golden Gate Roll, Titanic Roll, Seared Salmon Nigiri, and baked mussels. Sushi Tsunami is definitely worth trying! read more
My husband and I visited this place over the weekend and were really excited to try it. Coming from LA, we know a few great AYCE sushi spots, so our expectations were high. Unfortunately, the entire meal turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The restaurant wasn't very busy for a Sunday lunch, and we were seated right away. Oddly, the waiter asked if we were ready to order the moment we sat down--which was a little off-putting. The soy sauce was overly salty, and most of the rolls followed suit. We ordered takoyaki, but it was frozen and not fully cooked--the octopus was rock-hard, and the batter was cold. The dynamite mussels were just okay, nothing memorable. The salmon skin hand roll and spider roll were both far too salty. The "dynamite" roll lacked any kind of wow factor. My husband said the nigiri was fine, but nothing special. Sadly, we left feeling underwhelmed and unimpressed. read more
NEW SUSHI SPOT IN PLEASANT HILL! I visited Sushi Tsunami tonight for dinner and had a great experience. From the service to the food, everything was 10/10. We started off with Spicy Edamame & Gyoza, then moved on to a beautiful spread of different types of Nigiri (Seared salmon, Yuzu yellowtail, Jalapeño albacore, Bluefin tuna, Salmon Belly, Sweet Shrimp & Mackerel). The pieces of fish tasted fresh and flavorful, & the presentation was one of a kind!! For the rolls, we ordered four & couldn't get enough of each (Anaconda, Titanic, Zenbu, & Volcano). The staff were so friendly & attentive, they also had great recommendations and took the time to review the menu with us. We will definitely be back for AYCE!!! read more
The food is good and there's lots of choices. The service could be better if they get more servers. You actually have to wait and wave to grab their attention. I know they are doing their best. First time trying Sushi Tsunami and oh boy, we were impressed with the rolls! There are two ways to order: À la Carte or AYCE. We decided to go with the all you can eat option and we were very pleased. The menu is extensive, offering a mix of Japanese and Korean-inspired dishes. The menu can be overwhelming, and I would have loved to try many things, but there is just so much we could eat. This is what we had: -Miso, and House Salad 5/5, both delicious and just expected at a Japanese restaurant. -Nigiri special, bluefin tuna 5/5, fresh and delicious! We ordered a couple. -Yubu, Spicy Tuna 3.5/5, I am still unsure how to feel about this. There was a lot of tuna inside a tofu packet. It was just a bit bland. I wasn't impressed, and since they have other things, I would probably skip next time. -Mixed Tempura 3/5, some were good, but some of the veggies were doughy. It wasn't my favorite. -Seared Nigiri and Eel 2/5, I would not get this again. This was our least favorite. -Rolls, Flaming Dragon, and Exotic Salmon 5/5, the stars of the show. They have absolutely delicious rolls! I wish we could have tried others but we were full. Their rolls make a trip to this restaurant worth it. They were very flavorful! They also have a slight smoky taste, and we loved that. -Cheese Bulgogi Fries 4/5, this was a surprisingly delicious dish. We loved the flavor, but next time we plan to ask for half a serving. It was a large dish, and we just wanted to try other things. -Kimchi Fried Rice 3.5/5, I had a love and hate relationship with this dish. It had only a hint of kimchi and it had cheese which made it better. I didn't love it, but I kept eating it because it was oddly addictive. Overall, I think the restaurant has some good dishes, and the rolls alone are worth a trip here. One minor drawback was the strong emphasis on the policy requiring guests to finish all dishes or be charged à la carte for anything left uneaten. While I understand the intention to reduce food waste, I hope the restaurant can eventually find a balance that maintains fairness while keeping the dining experience relaxed and enjoyable. read more
We often celebrate birthdays at sushi spots, and when I give a place five stars, I like to check back in to confirm why I rated it that way in the first place and to make sure it still deserves that praise. Sushi Tsunami continues to do exactly that. We went with our 12-year-old on a Thursday night and didn't have to wait for a table, which was a great start to the evening. The fish was incredibly high quality--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Everything we ordered tasted top-notch, just like our past visits. Our server, Joanna, truly made the night special. She was attentive, kind, and fantastic with our child, which made the celebration feel relaxed and fun for the whole family. You can tell she genuinely cares about creating a great experience. This is the kind of place you come for special occasions and when you just want excellent sushi you can trust. Still absolutely five-star worthy. read more

I personally had a great experience here. The fish was fresh and very tasty. We ordered the lion king roll and it was honestly one of the best I've had. Service was good, messed up one of our orders but wasn't a big deal. Would definitely come again! read more
Servers were very friendly and attentive. Checked in often. The nagiri was very good and they have a good selection. The rolls were not as good though. If you're doing the all you can eat option would suggest you stick to the nagiri and appetizers. Also really nice portion with the hamachi kama. read more

I've been a regular here for a while, and I genuinely love this restaurant, which is why it's disappointing to write this review. Over the past two months, I've visited four different times, and each visit has been noticeably worse than before. It feels like the portions have changed the amount of rice has increased while the amount of fish has decreased. Instead of enjoying the fish, it often feels like I'm just eating a mouthful of rice. On my most recent visit, the salmon belly had an unpleasant smell, and the tuna was dry. The rice has also been consistently dry on every visit. Even something as simple as a spicy tuna roll or a hand roll ends up being mostly rice with very little filling. The ambiance is still great, and the servers have always been friendly and attentive, so this review isn't a reflection of the staff. My concern is with the declining food quality and consistency I truly want this restaurant to succeed because I've always enjoyed coming here. I hope the owner takes these concerns seriously and brings the quality back to what it used to be. Right now, the decline in quality is noticeable, and I'm worried it will eventually drive away loyal customers like myself. Came here for the first time and it was pretty busy for a week night. We were a party of 2 so luckily was able to sit right away. I wish the server would have asked if I've been there before because they just gave us the menu with no explanation. I had to ask them to explain it to me. I was shocked when she said the whole menu is part of the AYCE!! There was sushi, apps, soups, meats, and so much more. Love all the options. As for the sushi, I would say it was pretty solid. The rolls are huge and they do put a good amount of rice which fills you up quickly... I've been to the Fairfield location before and decided to check out their second spot in Pleasant Hill -- and honestly, it was just okay. I noticed right away that the menu seemed smaller; a lot of the items I enjoyed from the Fairfield location were missing. Something was also a bit off about the rice (my partner in crime pointed that out too), and the corn cheese wasn't very pleasing. The hamachi was the highlight -- fresh and tasty -- but everything else was pretty mediocre. Overall, not bad, but I'd probably stick with the Fairfield location next time. read more
Ayce Sushi and korean food! The variety is so great! I really enjoyed the no-rice options. The Edamame was tasty and the sushi was fresh. We also had the tempura which was crisy and a good size. It felt like more of a sit down restaurant than a buffet. Service was great, the servers all came around and asked if we needed anything. Definitely come hungry because there is so much to chose from! The food came out quickly and we did not feel rushed. There was plenty of seating and did not feel crowded. Sushi Tsunami is a new spot and I almost want to gate keep lol cause its that good. I saw it on TikTok and wanted to check it out with my husband for my bday. Coming in its nicely decorated and a fun music remix in the background. Sushi Tsunami is the first AYCE sushi place that I was impressed on their portion size and selection. We really appreciate how friendly and welcoming our server; she was knowledgable of the menu and as it was our first time explained AYCE option so ordering was easy. I also appreciated the extra touch to being us drinks and water on the side. The rolls are generously sized, fresh, and flavorful. We've been here many times for lunch and dinner. Came last night and the menu changed with some price increases. Took away some items such as salmon kama, but added salmon teriyaki. No more mochi ice cream. Food quality was the same, but plating was not as nice as when they first opened. Our favorites are the seared salmon, hamachi kama, and sweet shrimp. read more

Gave the restaurant another shot n it was a nice turn around! Got seated right away by surprise given we came back on a Sunday afternoon again. Had 4 rounds which made the AYCE option oh so worth it. Free Hot Tea is given when requested. Servers were on top of it, making sure our table was never empty until we tapped out lol. Still stuck w/ Red Options from the menu and it didn't disappoint. Exotic Salmon roll is now my fav! We ALWAYS recc getting the options that you can only get once. We'll be back when having a super craving for Sushi! read more
This is an all-you-can eat sushi restaurant that newly opened August 1. The service was okay but they did get all of our orders correct. They also do birthday thing which was actually very endearing and sweet. Thank you for having us! The ambience was open and inviting with the sushi chefs in full view at back of restaurant. All the rolls are full rolls, though certain rolls may be smaller. Best to just ask the server if you're not sure on some of them.

The crazy cucumber is a stuffed hollowed cucumber, the burrito is all that filling wrapped in a tortilla, the nachos is basically a sushi nacho plate and that's all I've been brave enough to order so far 😂
All imitation crab or option for real crab? (Fyi imitation crab has gluten in it for anyone gluten sensitive)?
It's all imitation crab. I also asked chef about it. But, I really enjoyed it. You should come. I couldnt believe that the restaurant is all-you-can-eat. The quality of sushi is way better than others. The chefs are really amazing.
