Had to run some errands in the east bay and came across this place around 2:45pm on a Friday. They charge $13.99 for lunch which is an insane price in the Bay Area! The waitstaff is pleasant and explained how the pricing worked. We were worried cuz we thought we might overlap into dinner prices which started at 3:30 (17.99) but she said as long as we didn't eat the dinner items we were fine. They had sushi and chinese food so not much more you could ask for. There's a wide variety for honestly, it's not bad bot it's not great either. It's about quantity not quality so if you want a lot of food and am not picky then you'd prolly like it! Most items were a bit bland and just a little off. For example, the sushi rice could use a little more rice wine, the shrimp could have used a little salt and pepper and been a bit crispier. I ate a bunch of sushi cuz who can resist? Bit the tastiest items were the onion rings (reminded me of Jack in the Box), the fried chicken wings (who doesn't love fried chicken wings?) and surprisingly the garlic string beans and chow mein. The place is large and the people nice. Lots of people coming in to eat so it's a popular spot. I don't think you'd ever have to wait for a table. Would I eat here again? This is more on the 2.5* side. Honestly the price point is great, but it lacked a lot. I'll rank 3 as to not sway the rating. This is really a standard AYCE Chinese buffet. They mix a lot of items at mid-level quality that hit and miss on a lot options. I do rank at a level of comparable Chinese Buffets, taking into account the price point. First off the thing that sets their apart from every Chinese buffet I've ever been to, is their chow mein is actually decent. Flavor is there. Noodles are a good texture. I found myself eating this with every plate I got. "Honey glazed shrimp" was decent too, as well as the Cilantro pork and General Tso. The "sauce on the side" S&S chicken was also a nice touch. The Dim sum was just OK. The Hargow had hard edges on 1of3, and the Siu Mai was typical of buffets, not good. Soup was a let down. H&S was flavorless. Wonton Broth was overly watered down, though the wontons, were OK. Sushi was also a huge step down. I know it's not supposed to be amazing, but the ratio was bad on top of bad quality salmon. "Wasabi" had no flavor or heat. Rolls were ok. Ban chan was ok, especially the octopus salad; and dessert outside the "fly traps" was just meh. (Some fly traps were stale though) Fruit options were decent. Service was good in terms of keeping things stocked and removing plates. A well oiled machine. Because of this it's easy to ask for water. Inside was every bit as typical for an establishment like this. Overall I think if you're on a budget and need calories, this place is great. But I'd like to spend a little more for a step up in quality. read more

July 6 2025 3.6 stars China Wall Buffet has a nice spot in a strip mall setting right off Willow Pass road in Concord. This strip mall should get a cool nickname like maybe Concord's Food Crawl. There are so many food operations for you within a 2 block walk. I checked out Yelp before we departed and Yelpers have been raking this restaurant over the coals for years. I went in with low expectations and left happier than I expected to. The buffet has a ton of food choices. We were there for dinner so there was plenty of fried crab, shrimp, and clams. The shame about it is they manage to overcook too many of their foodstuffs. Chewy prawns, chewy clams, tough as a golf ball "siomai". You might get a suprise bit of sand or shell when you are expecting an uneventful chew as well. This is much like eating on a cruise ship with all the beautiful foods, only the Chef missed the boat. The food tray areas and in fact the entire restaurant is kept clean and organized. The staff is friendly and quick to clean up a table so the guests have space to soil more plates. Happily there is no noticeably annoying mood music being pumped in. The restaurant is brat friendly so you can bring along offspring if you've got them. The winner here is the price. Two meals and a coke for $40 before tip (we got a few bucks off- old codgers discount). Where can two people eat all the muscles, Manilla clams, pepper crab, and sushi etc. they want for $40? Again, most all the dishes are prepared in an underwhelming fashion. Went for lunch on Veterans Day with a group of 13 people. The person who arranged the gathering called the restaurant to ask about securing a table for all of us. The restaurant never mentioned that the lunch price for Veterans Day would be increased to the dinner price, so it was about $5 more per person ($17.95 per person). When we inquired about the increase in price, we were only told, "Well, it's posted on the door." The person arranging the gathering called on the phone, so she wouldn't have seen a post on the door!! Oh, well! The offerings on the steam tables were varied and plentiful, but none of it seemed particularly good. I think the best thing I had was the fried chicken drummette listed as "chicken wings". Nothing else seemed to have enough flavor to make it stand out. The sushi all tasted the same with not much flavor. The clams with black beans were under seasoned and the "baked crab" was really just "krab". Absolutely no drinks were included in the price except water. No knives were offered, so you have to try to cut larger pieces with your fork or eat with your hands. Needless to say, I was not very impressed with anything. So glad the people in my group made up for the disappointment of the food. read more

The service was okay, all of the staff we interacted with were very nice. The food was very plain. We had the lo mein, pot stickers, garlic string beans (the only good item we had), mussels, salt and pepper shrimp, egg drop soup (which was green), general tso's chicken, jalapeño chicken, and salmon. Out of everything the garlic string beans were the only item we feel comfortable recommending. The plaza this buffet is in has plenty of other options, I suggest going to one of those instead of here. read more

I've upgraded my review to 5 stars! I've been coming every few months and am happy to see the place popping like it used to pre-Covid. I like that they've added different things to the menu and haven't really raised their prices like everyone else has. Today was the first time I saw a wider range of cold seafood and sesame noodles. Very nice and plentiful selection! Their fried chicken wings are one of the best in town. Staff is really quick to replenish the bins of food, whether it be the wings or crabs. My 3 senior friends and I eat out every Wednesday. China Wall is one of our favorite lunch places. It has lots of variety, good fresh quality food and most importantly, the food trays get filled constantly. I'm Chinese and love some of the items not found elsewhere: black bean spareribs, braised pig's feet and stuffed tofu. Other excellent items are the fried chicken wings and salt, pepper shrimp. My friends love the 3 types of soup offered. The nice variety of beautiful sushi is also a draw. The lady greeter and counter lady are always very friendly. Paul, our waiter, is very attentive and a very nice guy. All in all, going to China Wall is a pleasant and very reasonably priced place to go for a good meal. I'm ngl this place is buns... the only reason it gets two stars instead of one is cuz the price was under $20 for dinner. If it was more I would've been mad. The best food here is probably store bought: e.g. steamed buns, har gow, some kind of mango dessert. The taste of everything else ranged from okay to downright questionable. At some point I started questioning if the meat I was eating was even really meat... I used to come here as a child. We were seated right away, which honestly was the only positive part of the experience. The host took our drink order and we went to get food, but when we returned to the table our drinks still hadn't arrived. It was just me and my little brother, and we were almost finished eating before we ever received them. I finally tried to get another hostess's attention (a woman with long hair), and before I could even finish my sentence she rudely snapped, "Okay, okay!" On top of that, the same host was waving the catering menu directly in front of another customer's face, so close it was almost touching her nose. To make matters worse, another employee was clearing tables while on her phone and taking her time instead of actually cleaning them. If I could give this place negative stars, I would . I only leave reviews when an experience is genuinely bad, and this was one of those times. At the sushi bar, I took a roll from the back of the plate for sanitation reasons and was immediately yelled at by an employee first in another language, then in English while she waved her hands and caused a scene in front of other customers. It was aggressive, unnecessary, and embarrassing. After returning to my table and requesting the check from a different employee, she blatantly stood over me while I paid, watching the receipt like a hawk as I wrote the tip. The behavior was uncomfortable and inappropriate, and nearby people clearly noticed. Between the hostile staff behavior, lack of professionalism, and hygiene concerns, this is not a place I would ever return to or recommend. The service was also good, hostess asked if I wanted a booth or a table when I came in & glad to have a choice on that decision. It's important to go in with the mindset that buffets are not supposed to be gourmet. With that being said, I'm extremely impressed with this place. Here you get a big selection of food items, decent food, and cheap prices. Seriously--$12.99 per person for lunch? Count me in! On the outside it can be pretty unassuming, but once you walk in, you're met with a huge, spacious interior. There are a lot of seating options, and the food area is located in the far end of the building. The inside looks and feels clean, and the ambience is peaceful. The food selection is what you'd find in a typical chinese buffet: chow mein, fried rice, veggies, fried options, soups, sushi, fruits, ice cream, etc. My personal favorites are the sauteed beans, sole filet, and sushi. Overall pretty decent quality food for an affordable buffet. Service is good; the waiters take your drink orders once you sit down and periodically collect your empty plates to keep the table clean. One cool thing about this place is that there is a takeout option, priced per pound. I don't usually see that in buffets, so it's cool that this option exists here. I never notice a buffet in the shopping center. I have gone by the buffet and never ate there until now since my dad wanted to eat there. I will say I am not a buffet person. I rather have my food fresh instead of being here for awhile. The service was OK. I wish I got my water refill when ai ask for it. Seems like you are only allowed no refills at this place. My rating is four stars due to people that dine there. I would had given the place three stars but since there were people dinning there for dinner I was nice to give it four stars. Rating 3.5 Cost per person for the lunch buffet was around $15. There was a section opposite of the desserts that is kept empty, I assume that's where they put seafood for the dinner buffet, but this makes the options look bare. For lunch, my favorite options include deep fried soft shell crab, won ton soup, fried donuts, and buttered mushrooms. I tried out the salmon, chow mein, and hot & sour soup, but the taste was different from what I'm used to, so I wouldn't go back for those. There was also a sushi bar and also a soft serve ice cream machine--which is my favorite part of the dessert buffet. We saw many people come in for lunch and grab the to-go boxes at the front of the restaurant, fill it up, and pay by weight. Overall, I would go again. The place is not as clean as I expected them to be, but it wasn't loud and it wasn't crowded, so it's a good thing. And recommend to come here when you're decently hungry (not really hungry) because if you're the type that gets bored after eating same flavors over and over, then this place is not for you. One sad thing about this place tho, soda and other beverages (except water) is an extra charge, where I feel that other places would include soda in the price.
