Came here 8.3.2025 and 8.8.2026 to celebrate me and my husband's anniversary. I would like to give a higher rating, but the second time coming here wasn't as good as the first. The service was really good though. Food came out fast both times after ordering. The gentleman that was helping our table was very kind and attentive. He kept coming by to check on how everything was going. The food itself was pretty good, but there is a lack of consistency from last year compared to this year. I did not want to make a fuss about it at the restaurant, but I was quite disappointed with the quality of the fish. It wasn't as fresh this time. The restaurant has a cozy vibe. There's 30 minute parking available at the front of the restaurant. It is all street parking. The first time I was here we ordered: -Dragon Roll -Beef Roll -Gyoza -Chicken Karaage -Fried Calamari -Salmon Maki -Salmon Avocado -Double Double Salmon -49ers Roll Second Time Order: -Alaska Roll -Salmon Maki -Rock n Roll -Chicken Karaage appetizer -Fried Calamari appetizer -Golden California Roll -Dragon Roll -Salmon Avocado The Alaska roll according to the menu has spicy cooked salmon, cucumber, topped with unagi sauce and tobiko. The unagi sauce seemed to be more at the bottom than drizzled at top, but the waitress was kind enough to ask me if I wanted some of the unagi sauce on the side, which was very nice. It made a big difference in terms of flavor. Eating the Alaska roll without the extra unagi sauce, I was only able to taste the Sriracha. By the way, it did not mention on the menu that the Alaska roll was going to have both spicy mayo and Sriracha on it. I'm not a fan of Sriracha. The spicy mayo I can do, but the Sriracha ruined it for me. The dragon roll was ordered last year and this year. Please see the photos for how inconsistent the roll is. There were more ingredients the first time we ordered this roll. There was more avocado last year. The gyozas were pretty good. They came out hot and crispy, but not dry. They had a good amount of flavor. The beef roll had asparagus and beef in it. It's a pretty good combination. The chicken Karaage was good both times, but I did notice it was juicier when we ordered it last year. The salmon maki was much better last year than when I ordered it this year. I am not sure if a different person was making the rolls, but the rolls didn't fall apart last time like it did today. Most importantly though, the salmon was fresher the first time I had it. They definitely changed something other than the appearance. It was also pretty upsetting that the pieces of salmon maki were uneven. Only 2 of the pieces were tall, whereas last year, I was given all 6 pieces that had the same height. It makes it look like the sushi I got today was less. I had all the photos of the sushi from last year on my old phone, so I wasn't able to show the waiter or the owner the comparison. The rock n roll is a good portion, but there was barely any bbq eel in it. It was literally just a little tiny piece in the corner of the sushi. I do appreciate that the avocado is fresh and creamy in the rolls that we ordered. 49ers roll - is one of my go to rolls for something light and refreshing. The lemon slices add a really nice touch. I love that the lemon is thinly sliced and the rind was actually included. It adds a bit of tartness to the flavor, which I find satisfying. The salmon was very fresh. I only ordered it last year and not this time since my husband and I were at a prior event that had food, but we were still craving sushi lol. The fried calamari was good, but this time that we got it, the portion was significantly smaller. I'm not sure why. It has good texture and crispiness. There was also a piece of calamari that ended up in our chicken Karaage, which we didn't know what it was at first, but later found out it was calamari lol. No complaints about the Double Salmon Roll. If you love raw salmon, more raw salmon, avocado and tobiko, that one is a good option. The Golden California roll was okay. We felt like it had too much batter though. Salmon Avocado roll was a lot better the first time we were here as well. I don't know if their raw fish supplier changed or something, but the salmon definitely didn't taste the same. I know it's been a year and some may think how do I remember? I'm a sushi fanatic/connoisseur. When I eat sushi and it's good, I have a little happy dance that I do. First time I was here I did the happy dance and that's why I wanted to come back here again. The prices are very affordable here and the service is great. However, I was pretty disappointed today (8/8/2026) with the presentation of the rolls and the freshness of the salmon or lack of freshness I should say. The staff is quick to take orders within minutes of you sitting down and there isn't any personality behind the interactions. I came back again to Sushi Town, and honestly... this might be my new hyperfixation spot This time I tried the USA roll, got another Volcano King roll (because I had to), and also tried the scallop roll. Overall, I really enjoyed everything. The USA roll was pretty unique, it came with seaweed salad, fried oysters, and salmon, which made it feel like a full experience in one roll. For some people, if you aren't a big fan of oysters, then it might be a bit too strong for you. The only small thing for me is the red sauce, I'm not the biggest fan of it. It's still good, just a bit heavy for my taste, so next time I'll probably ask for less of it. For a little over $15, you can add two thick cuts of salmon sashimi $3 and miso soup $2. A total steal that leaves you perfectly full. My favorite rolls: Double Salmon: Generous salmon portions over a salmon/avocado base, topped with tobiko. Lion King: This hits different. The sauce is addicting. I think I detected a hint of garlic? Ever since finding out about Sushi Town, it's been my #1 sushi recommendation for friends and family who love quality and value. Only downside is that it's super hard to find parking unless you don't mind walking a few blocks. The restaurant is cozy and usually pretty packed but never a wait (that I've experienced). Our server was an older gentleman who was so attentive and making sure we were comfortable. Super great service which is a plus! But I go to restaurants for the food and the quality is insane for the value. We shared a bunch of different rolls and nigiri but the standout for me was the otoro nigiri. This was our first time visiting Sushi Town. We were promptly seated and our drink order was taken. We arrived at 8:25pm and by 8:40pm we had our food, which included the following: 1. Spicy tuna roll 2. Spider roll 3. Rainbow roll 4. Tiger roll 5. Miso soup 6. Seaweed salad We also ordered Asahi beer and hot sake. The food was very good and we gave a solid 10/10 (the ratio of rice to filling was well balanced), the hot sake was smooth, and the beer was very cold. Everything was priced well compared to other sushi restaurants. Most rolls we ordered ranged from $6.95 to $13. Staff were very nice and attentive. The restaurant was clean and quiet. Two things I want to highlight:: (1) the restaurant closes at 9pm, and stops serving new clients at 8:45pm. Keep this in mind if you arrive past 8pm and (2) the receipt calculated the recommended tip based on total amount (including taxes) but tip should be calculated before taxes. My first time here! My cousin and I stopped by at an odd time around 4:30pm so it was quite empty! There's parking in front but some spots are only 30 mins parking. What a great find! They have bentos for $10 which is SO affordable and a variety of rolls 50% off on listed on the wall. Besides bentos, our group also ordered a lot of the discounted rolls since they had classics like rainbow roll and salmon avocado, Lion King roll, Dynamite roll, and double salmon roll (my favorite). Besides the double salmon, I also enjoyed the salmon avocado and Lion King baked roll. The Dynamite is a fried roll so was a little heavy for my taste. What I was most impressed by was the udon. We got the seafood one which was priced at almost $20, but I had no idea how large the portion would be. Our whole table which 6 adults could all share it because a huge pot arrives at the table filled with seafood and a lot of vegetables. Even the cucumber salad was a huge bowl that we could all share. Taste was delicious and is a great place to go with a large party and share a variety of rolls, sides and udon. Admittedly, this place doesn't have the best sushi, but what it lacks in quality it more than makes up for in value. The portion sizes are massive and everything is super cheap. They have a bunch of specials posted along the walls for cheap lunch bentos and rolls for $7-10 which is pretty crazy for the Bay Area. The best thing here by far is the $10 otoro nigiri. You get 2 fat slices of otoro and they're well marbled. It was really good also, the fish was rich and the fat melted in my mouth. It's a steal for $10 and I would definitely get it again. The Salmon Kama was also pretty good. It was also $10 and was a huge chunk of fatty salmon. Salmon is already pretty oily and the collar has even more fat so it was pretty filling. My only gripe about this place is some of the fish isn't the freshest. The tuna and salmon, which I guess have high turnover, were pretty good, but the Capital Roll which used a bunch of different fish had some that tasted a little off. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't the best. The service was not very good, and when I was paying, I was asked if I was going to leave a cash tip. I understand that tipping is customary, but being asked directly made me feel uncomfortable, especially considering the service I had received. I'm not sure if it was because I'm young, but the interaction made me feel like I was expected to tip regardless of the experience. This has to be my new to-go place for Japanese food. I can't believe I've lived near here for the past 2 years since this place opened and I just found this place on Yelp. I guess it was meant to be. The prices here are very reasonable especially for Japanese food in the Bay. I respect business owners so much for not ripping off customers just because Japanese food is popular (cough cough like Bay Area Korean restaurants cough cough), providing high quality food, and above and beyond service even for me who was just there to order food to go. The owners treat you as if you're a regular even if it's your first time. I don't think I need to say much about the food-everything I ordered was phenomenal. The double salmon roll was fresh and the rice was good. The rice that came with the bentos was also cooked well which matters a lot to me because I'm scarfing it down with my proteins. The tonkatsu was pleasantly crispy and tender and the tonkatsu sauce that they drizzled on top was good too. The chicken teriyaki had that smoky chargrilled flavor that I loooooove from Japanese restaurants. The tempura was very crispy and generous with the breading. The parking around Sushi Town is a bit tricky (there's very limited parking) but we were fortunate to be able to snag a thirty minute spot before going in to make our order. The service was very friendly, and the restaurant appeared very tidy with a pleasant ambiance. There were various signs advertising some ongoing sales for certain dishes, one of which was the Double Salmon Roll. I decided to get it to-go, which was around ten dollars as a result of the sale, before we decided to return to the lake to eat our sushi. The sushi was amazing. I wasn't entirely sure what I was expecting, but it was both fulfilling with a satisfying flavor. I would probably consider this place to be one of the better sushi places that I had chosen to eat at in the Bay Area, and I would definitely consider returning at some point later on. Pros- Great prices Insane quantities Cons Food has no finesse and is way too rustic which by itself is not a problem but sushi is a craft which needs a lot of finesse. We got the chicken udon with tempura and egg. It was served in one of those iron cauldrons we see in period movies/shows. Quantity was insane, we expected it to be enough for for 1 person but it was sufficient for 4. Flavor itself was on the blander side, not a lot of depth as well. I ordered thru DoorDash. I ordered the teriyaki beef, rice and salad and added an order of vegetable tempura. The food was excellent! The tempura was lightly coated and fried, allowing for the flavor of the vegetables themselves to be tasted. The teriyaki beef was excellent as well. Great place with great prices. The staff are all super nice; the sashimi is all very nice quality and LARGE portions. We had to take some of the katsu home it was so large. Easily accommodated a party of five. LOTS of Doordashers coming and going so I know the place is good. We will be back! read more
