Seaweed cucumber salad

Food: everything we ordered was delicious. I'm definitely coming back here. They have a vegetarian section of the menu. Location: easy to find. It has a small parking lot. Service: was fine especially because it wasn't busy on a weeknight we went. Clean simple inside.

Food: Sumo, Salmon Nigiri, Spicy Tuna Hand Roll Price: $10.99 | $2.99 | $5.99 Overall: Looking for a spot that serves affordable and delicious sushi? Kakuna Sushi is the spot to go! I came here with my friend for lunch and it was empty. The menu is big but all of good sushi options. My favorite is the Skittles and any of the baked rolls. I can't really complain, this restaurant hits the spot when I have sushi cravings.

The place seems designed more for takeout than actual dine-in. It was a plan room with too much metal and not enough sound proofing. The food tasted good but wasn't worth the end price of ~$25 roughly. I would have gotten the same from a Japanese grocery store for half the price. It was sad that it wasn't as amazing as the pictures online led it to be. The food presentation was pretty so props to them for that.

Such a great deal! I always get my to-go orders for family gatherings. It was $60 for this whole tray which is such a steal in this economy! They have some good options with cream cheese (not my favorite but still good.) The store is fairly small, I have never actually sat inside so I can't say much about it.

Love the food here! Consistent and delicious. This time we got the Kakuna roll, Orange blossom, and pork belly bao. The sushi always tastes of good quality. I think the pork belly bao is a new item. The flavors are good, but the pork belly was dry. Appreciate the quick and friendly service here. There's a small parking lot behind the restaurant.

Was in the area and came for their happy hour. I got the 2 maki rolls and a miso soup for $11z Salmon Avocado rolls (5/5): These were fat and make the most money. Tekka Rolls (3/5): A bit small, but can't complain about the price. Overall if you love sushi at an affordable price, this is the place to go.

Second time coming here in the last couple months and Kakuna Sushi does not disappoint. The service has been quick and reliable, the food was delicious, and the place has always been clean and tidy. I almost never remembered what I order, but I know that it has been delicious every time. I'll definitely be coming back!

This is my second time coming here and the rolls are always so delicious! Kakuna has been my favorite and go to. Rainbow roll isn't as good but fish is still fresh. Good seating options and they were able to accommodate a large party. Service is nice, no complaints!

5! 5! 5!!!! this hidden gem has become my new favorite place. The menu is huge with classics like Lion King and Rainbow rolls along with fusion as San Jose knows how to do like a Mango Chili roll. They also have ramen, udon, bento, and appetizers like a pork belly bao (which was bomb!) The Mango Chili roll was so scrumptious but I would prefer no nuts and more tajin on top. The service was prompt and friendly. My husband loved the Lion King and the Kakuna rolls. Fresh, flavorful, and great prices with plenty of free parking. There is plenty of indoor seating but I could see this place getting packed during peak time. Despite the Taylor Swift music, ambiance was calm on a Friday at lunch.

Mango Chili and Charizard

I visited Kakuna before and had to bring my boyfriend here. We were craving sushi, and I'm glad we chose this place. We ordered the Charizard, Mango Chili, and Salmon Lovers rolls. My favorite was the Charizard, while my boyfriend's favorite is the Mango Chili. The Charizard roll was delicious, especially with the hot Cheetos on top. Although the hot Cheetos were soggy, I still loved it. I even wanted to get more because it was so tasty. I love that it's spicy with a crunchy topping and a flavorful sauce. The Mango Chili offers a perfect mix of sweet and spicy. With every bite, you taste the sweetness of the mango and the heat of jalapeno. Nothing is overpowering; it's a well-balanced combination. Plus, the creaminess from the avocado helps balance the sweet and spicy flavors. Since I love salmon, I had to get the Salmon Lovers roll. I enjoy sashimi, and in my opinion, it's perfectly sliced. It's topped with a bit of wasabi. The sashimi truly melts in your mouth. Kakuna Sushi is a great place if you want quality sushi. The service was excellent, and they brought our sushi out as quickly as possible. We appreciate fast service. This spot is a must-visit for some good sushi.

Best sushi in our neighborhood! We love this spot as a weekly dinner option. They made great rolls and everything is fresh and made well. Our family likes to order 'pick up' as it's usually a stop before getting home from work. Sometimes the service is slower, but lately they've become more fluid with orders! I have never dined in their restaurant, but I'd be excited to take my family there one weekend. Our favorites are the Lion King roll, the vegetable tempura, and the ramen was delicious.

Place 3/5: small, a bit messy, menus seemed old, no music but the food was priced reasonably Service 3.5/5: only one server in the entire place, she did well considering there were a few tables Food Kakuna 3/5: smaller, basic roll, avocado or something crunchy would have improved it Charizard 4/5: love the uniqueness of this roll, no seaweed, shrimp tempura was fried well, needed more hot cheetos Dynamite 4.5/5: great crunch from the softshell crab, good amount of escolar on top, sauces were creamy, slightly spicy

Food 5/5 Service 5/5…read moreAmbiance 5/5 Felt like having ramen today on a cold Friday night, before the Sharks game. We walked in and were able to get seated right away and serve us drinking water. What we ordered: Clam ramen: 5/5, I added an egg, cooked perfectly. Broth is flavorful too. Decent amount with lots of clams. House ramen: 5/5, my niece loves it. She's usually a picky foodie like me. Karaage chicken: 5/5, very crispy. Save room for dessert, and order the matcha ice cream parfait. Hits the spot! I've drove by this place a few times and always see a long line, so I'm happy we tried it this time and I will be back since it's not far from where I live too.

The food was plated meticulously, but that's about the only positive I can mention. Everything else…read morefell short. The dish arrived cold, with ingredients sitting in a mildly warm broth, which made it unappetizing from the start. There was little attention to preparation--mushrooms weren't even sliced, and the kale was overly saturated in oil, making it unpleasant to eat. The tofu, which should have been a highlight, had an off texture, and the broth was too sweet for my taste. Even the noodles were forgettable. Overall, this was the least enjoyable bowl of ramen I've had. I'm genuinely surprised by the high ratings, as everyone at my table shared the same experience. If you're in a rush, this place might work--the food arrives within a couple of minutes of ordering, and there's ample seating with quick service. However, based on my experience, I wouldn't return--rush or no rush.

In the summer, I switch to the Yuzu for something bright and refreshing. You honestly can't miss with the Black Pepper Karaage (crispy, punchy, totally addictive) and the garlic edamame (the kind you keep reaching for "one more" of). The staff is always friendly, and the owners are genuinely kind and accommodating--one of the biggest reasons I find myself back here every week. However, this…read morerestaurant fell short of my expectations, and rather than it being a good experience, it made out to be a very mid experience. First off: the location of this place just turned out to be a very closed off location. Not a lot of people knew about it, and the entrance towards the restaurant was rather pretty dark. It seemed kind of unwelcome, and we even had to wait a little bit even though there were plenty of seats available (I would understand the shortage of people serving, but even then, that shouldn't be an excuse. We shouldn't be the ones bearing the responsibility for it). I felt like as if I was rushed through this whole experience. Not only were the seating places small, but also, the portion for what they were offering was not worth it for its price. The customer service was almost as if it was non existent. I tried their ramen, and while the ramen noodles were good, the chashu was really rubbery and the onion taste was too overpowering. In addition, the pork broth was too salty, and was WAY too hot. Also, the fact that four gyozas were a little bit too less. I honestly don't know if I'm going to come back, unless things improve otherwise. It's just my take on this restaurant, but I think they need quite a bit of improving.

I ordered the 109, which includes a medium spicy miso soup and a side order or meat, rice and green onions, as well as an egg. The soup itself has bamboo, seaweed, chashu, and a delicious mild spicy broth. The price was about $23 to $24, which is reasonable for the amount of food you get. The workers are friendly, and they offer free water if you ask. Since it's located inside a Mitsuwa, the parking can be challenging, especially during the weekends, so just be mindful of when you go. It is straightforward with a good mix of udon, rice dishes, small bites, and drinks, which I really appreciated. The food felt delicate but still had layers of flavor. Nothing was heavy or overdone. The rice was one of my favorite parts. It was crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly inside, which made it so satisfying. The chicken karaage was also really good. Crispy, tender, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you order karaage. The only thing I would probably skip next time is the mixed sake drinks. They are fruity and fun, but they tasted like they were made with sugary syrup. So if you do not want a sugar bomb or you are watching sugar calories, I would stay away from those. The inside has a cozy feel that reminded me a little of something you would find in Japan, but with a bit of an American touch. It felt clean, casual, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive without making anything feel rushed. Also we had our son so they brought share plate without us even asking for him. I loved that they considered that. For the amount of food, the quality, and the overall experience, the prices felt well worth it. We will definitely be going back. It is one of those places that feels easy to recommend because the food is good, the menu makes sense, the service is warm, and the whole experience just works. We ordered the Chicken Karaage, Gyoza, Hakata Tonkatsu and the Chicken Paitan. We wanted to order the Chicken Paitan DX but we were told that their grill was not working so they could not grill the chicken thigh that came with the DX order. The soups came in bowls that were irrgular shaped and colorful. Everything tasted good. The chicken Karaage was generously portioned and tasted great. My son devoured them in no time. The Hakata Tonkatsu had a very rich, well developed broth that was so delicious. Might have been a little too rich for me as I was not able to finish the meal. The chicken Paitan was also delicious but the broth was a lighter broth. Our gyoza order did not come until much later in the meal. We had to remind our waiter that we did not get our order. This dish, gyoza, was disappointing. It did not look like it was homemade - looked more store bought. We didn't care for the taste with the dipping sauce that came with it. Not sure if this was because we had the heavier broth first. It just fell flat after the robust and rich hakata tonkatsu meal I had. Service was friendly. The waiter and manager(?), were apologetic that the gyoza order was delayed (or forgotten?). They also apologized for their grill not working that day. I would definitely come back here to try the other items on their menu.
