Absolutely delicious Omakase service! The service was very attentive and we were able to be seated right away on a busy day since we came in of an odd time. The interior was very cozy and comfortable, perfect for hanging out with my close friend and catching up. Super delicious and I'll definitely be back.

Fuji Restaurant is one of those dependable downtown spots that keeps things simple and satisfying. The fried avocado tempura is easily the highlight. It is one of those dishes you end up thinking about later and ordering again without hesitation. The bento boxes are a strong option. Good portions, a nice variety, and priced reasonably, which is not always easy to find downtown. It feels like you get a full meal without having to piece things together. They also offer Japanese curry, which is not something you see everywhere, and it is done well here. A nice change of pace from the usual menu items. Parking can be a bit of a challenge since it is in downtown, so plan a little extra time. It is a steady, reliable place that delivers on the basics and then gives you a few reasons to come back. The service is always a culminating and top notch. An inside has a nice bamboo ambiance feel.

Lunched here with a girl friend of mine. For just two people, we ordered a lot of food. * Hamachi Sashimi Slices ($32.95) * Combo B ($85.95) -- 8pcs nigiri, 10pcs sashimi with a choice of any two specialty rolls, 2 miso soups, and 2 side salads. The sushi chefs were quick at customizing our Hamachi sashimi order, and did not mind accommodating. We arrived exactly at 11:30am so we were seated pretty quickly along with two other parties. By the time we were wrapping up, the entire restaurant was almost at capacity which tells me this is a DTSJ sushi fav? Anyway, food was good. Our server was a darling (can't remember her name) and the ambiance is super cute and aesthetically pleasing. Will continue to support to keep this small business in the game!

A bit unassuming from the outside, Fuji is a great hole in the wall Japanese spot serving up authentic Japanese food in the downtown SJ area. Street parking will be your best bet here and luckily we found a spot right out front but we would believe that is not common so prepare for that. The interior feels authentic with bamboo strewn throughout and everything feels very homey and relaxed. Service is good and the place has a very local vibe despite being off one of the main streets downtown. We made reservations, which at first seemed unnecessary but while we were there it started to fill up pretty quickly. We ordered quickly and began with an appetizer of avocado tempura which was light and tasty. The mixture of the tempura crunch and buttery avocado was great and this will become our go to appetizer order when available from now on, delicious. For main courses we ordered their plain ramen and tonkatsu curry. The ramen was pretty average, hitting the spot on a rainy night in SJ with a thick, flavorful broth. The curry was out of this world, easily the best Japanese style curry we've ever had. It was hearty and warm, just an absolute monster of a dish that is the definition of a comfort dish. Fuji is just so unassuming from the outside, but it is a really good spot we think shines amongst the various restaurants and quick bites available downtown. Make sure to stop by when you're around!

Me and my husband have been on the hunt for a sushi spot and I think we finally found it. I apologize for not having better pictures but phone did not eat first. My husband had the sushi combo plate that came with miso, salad, 5 pieces of nigiri (chefs choice), and a tempura roll. This was the steal of the night, such a good price and so delicious! I tried the spicy crunch roll and max roll. Everything was super fresh and delicious. I was left feeling so satisfied and happy. The service was prompt and good. The sushi chefs were sweet too and said goodbye on our way out. The restaurant is decorated so fun too. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Nice and cozy place downtown. We ordered quickly and the staff were attentive. We had Bento boxes with chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, Korean barbecue and chicken katsu, Max roll, and Spicy Ramen and an Asahi beer. The food was great and freshly cooked. The restrooms were also large and clean. We enjoyed ourselves.

    Sushi Omakase Special

I came here to eat on my birthday and was greeted and seated immediately, although it took me some time to find parking due to the area being quite busy. The restaurant itself is charming, with Japanese style decorations and photos of previous guests hanging on the walls. I ordered the Omakase special, Uni nigiri, and Ikura nigiri, probably my 3 favorite sushi items. The Omakase came with a salad and some miso soup. While I enjoyed my dinner I do feel like the quality of the fish could have been better. Overall, I did feel like it was worth what I paid. Would consider returning here again!

    Edamame, dragon roll, combo A
    Amanda M.

I was craving sushi the other week, and while this place "scratched the itch," nothing particularly stood out to me! We ordered the spicy edamame and I ordered the combo A (with the dragon roll) while my boyfriend ordered the chef's choice nigiri. First, the edamame was delicious! It was arguably more garlicky than spicy, but I thought these were some of the better flavored edamame I've had. The dragon roll was a pretty standard specialty roll. It was a decent serving and I liked both the shrimp tempura and sauces. I thought my nigiri and shashimi was only OK - even the toro and salmon didn't stand out, and those are normally my favorite. The whole selection didn't seem overly fresh, especially considering the general area and access to fresh fish; to be clear, the fish certainly wasn't stale, but it just didn't have a crisp, rich flavor. My boyfriend also felt that his chef's choice nigiri was just OK, which was disappointing given that we paid a little more for supposedly better options. As for service, the staff was nice, but my gripe is that our edamame, miso soup and salad all came out at the same time, followed very shortly after by our entrees. Not only did we run out of space on our table, but I felt like the staff kept coming back to clear items when we weren't done, and it was a little disruptive. Given that we picked this spot for date night, it would've been nice to spend a little more time at dinner with a more spaced out meal. Given the number of sushi places around, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. However, this is probably a good neighborhood spot!

Miso soup (came with tonkatsu curry)
    Yuki K.

Jalapeno bomb (their version of jalapeno poppers) isn't too spicy but still has a bit of a kick. Tonkatsu curry is just okay imo - seems like they purposely added wayyy too much water so it watered down the taste of Japanese curry a bit, which already isn't heavily spiced. It wasn't too bland though. I could still taste the salt and a bit of curry spice. The dish came with plenty of carrots, onions, and either cucumber or zucchini (both of which also release a lot of water when cooked). The tonkatsu is tender but lost most of its crisp after being doused in the curry. Miso soup (tasted pretty standard) comes with this dish. We also ordered the I Like Eel roll (8 piece roll with unagi and cucumber and covered with unagi pieces and unagi sauce) which was delicious and soft!

Bento box with 2 items: Salmon Teri and Cali Roll.
    Tina N.

Definitely solid for your bento fix go-to. Haven't been here for awhile but was back for our coworkers' birthdays last week. Not too many sushi restaurants do Bento boxes anymore and if they do it's only for lunch. (Hard for me to wrap my head around this. Listen up BUSINESSES, if you need to raise the price do it, but bring them back!!) So typical, but I always love California Rolls. I feel rooted to my years working at Sushi Lovers in Milpitas. And the salmon teriyaki was good. This place is always cozy and like a friend that never let's you down, is always there when you need a foodie hug. Xoxo

Fried banana with match ice cream

Took my son here for his 9th birthday because he requested to have Lion King roll for dinner. It was amazing! We got the bento box (agedashi tofu, beef teriyaki, and pork katsu) plus 3 sushi rolls - Godzilla, I Like Eel, and Lion King. The rolls were pretty standard but tasty/fresh. What stood out to us was the bento box. Pork katsu was fried perfectly with the right crunch. Agedashi tofu and the beef was both really delicious. Came with miso soup, rice, and salad. The staffs were really friendly and nice. I told one of the staffs secretly that it was my son's birthday and they prepared a really nice treat for him along with candle! Fried banana with matcha ice cream. The whole restaurant sang for him and he had a great time. Thank you to all the staffs. Will definitely be back again!

Curb Parking by the restaurant was limited so it was quite a walk from the parking lot which cost $20 prepaid! Made a reservation for 4 and arrived at the specific time , so got seated pretty quick!! A bar seating by the sushi counter and few dine in tables for 2-4 made place cozy ! An outdoor patio group seating is available too! Ordered my favorite appetizer " Soft Shell Crab" ... good size crunchy battered and delicious crab! Hubby and I shared a tempura meal including a salad! Service was great with servers filling up our hot tea cups ! Will come visit again but gotta find a better parking space!

Not sure why I haven't been here before, since it's right down the street but I decided to give this place a shot today and I'm so glad I did! I just ordered a poke bowl today (delicious 5/5) but I see they have sushi boats so I'll definitely be back. The service was so great too, the two ladies helping us out were so attentive.

Forgot to take photos of the Sake Don, Chirashi and Sashimi plates, only remembered taking photo of the first roll order that came out. The roll was just ok. The rice was a bit too soft, more like rice cake. Considering the sauces that were on that roll, it was fairly bland. The fish slices were thick and fresh enough to not have strong fishy aftertaste even though we had quite a lot of them. The chirashi bowl and sashimi plate came with the same exact fish selection: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, albacore/white tuna (I think), mackerel, and escolar. Yes, this place is one of those that has escolar. It didn't register in my mind at first until I ate a couple of pieces, I thought it was pretty good, but then I remembered what I read about that fish ... We quickly finish up, pay, and drove home with minutes to spare. Price to quality is decent compared to other sushi place, I have had better sushi at similar price point but it is not bad at all. Payment and tipping practice still with paper bill that was left on the table for us to fill.

The food was very good and we gave a solid 10/10 (the ratio of rice to filling was well balanced), the hot sake was smooth, and the beer was very cold. Everything was priced well compared to other sushi restaurants. Most rolls we ordered ranged from $6.95 to $13. Staff were very nice and attentive. The restaurant was clean and quiet. The service was really good though. Food came out fast both times after ordering. The gentleman that was helping our table was very kind and attentive. He kept coming by to check on how everything was going. The food itself was pretty good, but there is a lack of consistency from last year compared to this year. I did not want to make a fuss about it at the restaurant, but I was quite disappointed with the quality of the fish. It wasn't as fresh this time. The restaurant has a cozy vibe. There's 30 minute parking available at the front of the restaurant. It is all street parking. The first time I was here we ordered: -Dragon Roll -Beef Roll -Gyoza -Chicken Karaage -Fried Calamari -Salmon Maki -Salmon Avocado -Double Double Salmon -49ers Roll Second Time Order: -Alaska Roll -Salmon Maki -Rock n Roll -Chicken Karaage appetizer -Fried Calamari appetizer -Golden California Roll -Dragon Roll -Salmon Avocado The Alaska roll according to the menu has spicy cooked salmon, cucumber, topped with unagi sauce and tobiko. The unagi sauce seemed to be more at the bottom than drizzled at top, but the waitress was kind enough to ask me if I wanted some of the unagi sauce on the side, which was very nice. It made a big difference in terms of flavor. Eating the Alaska roll without the extra unagi sauce, I was only able to taste the Sriracha. By the way, it did not mention on the menu that the Alaska roll was going to have both spicy mayo and Sriracha on it. I'm not a fan of Sriracha. The spicy mayo I can do, but the Sriracha ruined it for me. The dragon roll was ordered last year and this year. Please see the photos for how inconsistent the roll is. There were more ingredients the first time we ordered this roll. There was more avocado last year. The gyozas were pretty good. They came out hot and crispy, but not dry. They had a good amount of flavor. The beef roll had asparagus and beef in it. It's a pretty good combination. The chicken Karaage was good both times, but I did notice it was juicier when we ordered it last year. The salmon maki was much better last year than when I ordered it this year. I am not sure if a different person was making the rolls, but the rolls didn't fall apart last time like it did today. Most importantly though, the salmon was fresher the first time I had it. They definitely changed something other than the appearance. It was also pretty upsetting that the pieces of salmon maki were uneven. Only 2 of the pieces were tall, whereas last year, I was given all 6 pieces that had the same height. It makes it look like the sushi I got today was less. I had all the photos of the sushi from last year on my old phone, so I wasn't able to show the waiter or the owner the comparison. The rock n roll is a good portion, but there was barely any bbq eel in it. It was literally just a little tiny piece in the corner of the sushi. I do appreciate that the avocado is fresh and creamy in the rolls that we ordered. 49ers roll - is one of my go to rolls for something light and refreshing. The lemon slices add a really nice touch. I love that the lemon is thinly sliced and the rind was actually included. It adds a bit of tartness to the flavor, which I find satisfying. The salmon was very fresh. I only ordered it last year and not this time since my husband and I were at a prior event that had food, but we were still craving sushi lol. The fried calamari was good, but this time that we got it, the portion was significantly smaller. I'm not sure why. It has good texture and crispiness. There was also a piece of calamari that ended up in our chicken Karaage, which we didn't know what it was at first, but later found out it was calamari lol. No complaints about the Double Salmon Roll. If you love raw salmon, more raw salmon, avocado and tobiko, that one is a good option. The Golden California roll was okay. We felt like it had too much batter though. Salmon Avocado roll was a lot better the first time we were here as well. I don't know if their raw fish supplier changed or something, but the salmon definitely didn't taste the same. I know it's been a year and some may think how do I remember? I'm a sushi fanatic/connoisseur. When I eat sushi and it's good, I have a little happy dance that I do. First time I was here I did the happy dance and that's why I wanted to come back here again. The prices are very affordable here and the service is great. However, I was pretty disappointed today (8/8/2026) with the presentation of the rolls and the freshness of the salmon or lack of freshness I should say. I would love to come back again, but I just don't want to be disappointed. I'm really hoping to have a better food experience here in the future.
