    New! Tonkatsu ramen
    Kevin T.

I came here with some friends after a show. I wasn't too impressed by them and lowkey, I was a bit underwhelmed. I think there are better ramen spots in the area. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen. The katsu was crispy but remember to place it on the dish otherwise it gets soggy. Further, I didn't think it was very rich or flavorful. Perhaps it was an off night?

Love that this spot has multiple vegan options! We chose the creamy ramen and zen ramen and both were so flavorful! Both had the shiitake mushroom dashi broth but the creamy one had soymilk while the other had more of a soy flavor. I had the sukiyaki beef ramen and it was loaded with toppings! The soup wasn't as sukiyaki-like as I thought but perhaps it's just be in the flavor of the beef. For all of our ramens, we substituted the noodles for the spinach noodles and we were impressed with the texture! It was the highlight of each dish. We came on a Sunday evening and it luckily wasn't too busy but service wasn't super attentive. Would come back again to try the other food options though.

Good, standard ramen place. Nothing too special, but does a great job when you're craving ramen. The Hinodeya Ramen was pretty good, with a generous amount of toppings. The meat was tender, and the noodles chewy. The broth didn't really have that depth of flavour that you expect from a great ramen place though. However, it was still seasoned nicely. The sukiyaki beef ramen tasted exactly how you would expect. It was good, but sukiyaki beef to me still pairs much better with rice than with noodles.

    Teriyaki chicken Bento with ramen

The bentos were all very visually appealing. They were plates well and looked appetizing. The restaurant required you to order from an online menu even before they would come by to offer you water. It was very unusual. We ordered ok online and then they finally brought us some water. The food came really quick which made me very concerned because that means everything was cooked in advance and nothing was fresh made... disappointing. The food looked so pretty I wish that it tasted as good as it looked. The food was definitely not worth the 100 dollars we spent. The ramen (which was their "house" ramen) was so bland and literally just had some noodles and bland broth. Nothing else in there. The menu said the house ramen had char su pork and eggs with bamboo shoots but let me tell you. It was all lies. We got some noodles in minimal Luke warm tasteless broth. So so disappointing. The chicken was all cold as well. Absolutely nothing warm and fresh made. I don't understand how they got 4 stars. It was quite literally one of the worst tasting Japanese food we have had in San Jose. They definitely put more effort into their plating than the actually taste of the food. I would not suggest going if you really love Japanese food. If you just want something pretty to look at for 100 bucks then go to a museum....it would last longer. So disappointed! But I guess at least they look pretty in the pictures.

$29 Pork katsu bento. Very tasty but small potions (use the spoon for scale).

First off, let me be clear the food here is SOLID. The staff is super friendly and the location is well lit and nicely appointed. I just can't give it the 5 star treatment as I think it's really quite expensive for the portions offered. I ordered the Pork Katsu Bento at an astounding $29. The katsu coating was crisp and the pork cutlet was juicy. It comes with a small ramen, rice, fried spring roll, and edamame beans. But the potion is comically small. The Katsu was roughly 4-5 ounces with a cup of ramen and half a cup of rice. I did like you can choose what type of ramen you want (Hinodeya, Spicy Miso, and creamy). This place is also all about crazy spicy and they have levels from regular to something like, "god of fury" or something. I went with a single level of spice after reading their numerous warnings regarding their spicing practices. If I was to return, I think I'd have a ramen (my wife said her's was excellent) and add some karage for a little more Protein. So, if you're loaded and not starving this is the place. I mean, you can also cruise to the TB next door for a Cheesy beef burrito if the hunger pangs are still hitting.

SHRIMP TEMPURA lunch bento + spicy miso

The ambience is very relaxing. The place is pretty nice inside. I really like how different their bento boxes are- a nice little classy touch along with the decor inside in the table settings. There's so many different varieties for lunch and it's pretty filling and a pretty good deal. They have a pretty good menu of different drinks: beer wine sake, cocktails, tea. The food comes out pretty fast. They do have regular menus if you do not want to use a QR code. The tempura was super crunchy and you got a lot of shrimp. My only recommendation is to have that sweet normal tempura sauce that most places have my tempura didn't really come with any sauce except for sweet chili sauce. My first time having Matcha salt and it's pretty good- the bento box came with Matcha sauce and two sweet chili sauces. My other second recommendation is that I wish they had a sesame ginger type of dressing because the bento boxes just come with plain baby spinach. Overall great experience and pretty delicious food and I returned today on New Year's Day to try their spicy miso Ramen with chicken. So glad I could substitute the pork meat in an added corn and I ate the whole thing! They charge an extra $.50 for adding more spice! The Ramen I had today is not pictured unfortunately.

    Tonkostu Ramen

First time trying this place. The interior of the restaurant was very well decorated and nice looking and well kept. The host greeted me as soon as I walked into the restaurant. Once she sat me down the table setting was very nicely done IMO. I ordered the Spicy Tonkostu Ramen. The presentation of the soup was on point and very delicious. However the prices of the Ramen was on the high side. I only ordered the soup and requested water and out the door I paid $36 dollars. Despite all the positives above It was not a desirable place due to cost of goods and services. There are other options out there that can compete with ambiance and flavor so I only recommend if money is not an option for you this can be your ramen place but not mine.

Big fan of this place. I've been here several times, and I love that they're open late on weekends. The service is always fast and friendly, and it works well whether you're coming with a group or just one other person. I've had the chicken karaage, which is great for sharing, as well as the creamy ramen and Hinodeya House (both solid choices). I've also dined with a friend who ordered the spiciest level, and he can confirm that this place definitely delivers the heat.

2025 has been a year of trying different ramen spots. I have a few that I've really enjoyed and this location has to be one of them! I've been to the Newark location and had a great experience. I had high hopes for their downtown San Jose location and they did not disappoint! After checking out the SJ made winter market, my girlfriends and I came here for a late lunch (around 2 pm) and this place was poppin'! I love how easy and convenient it is to order here- just scan the QR code at your table and easily place your order/ pay from your phone. It makes it very easy to pay when you come with friends and really streamlines the whole dining process! The service here was super fast, very friendly, and efficient! The ingredients were very fresh and you can taste the quality of both the broth and premium toppings that Hinodeya uses. Not to mention, the ramen actually comes out hot when it comes to the table. If you love spice, this location is the place for you! They offer broth that ranges from Koko-kara (level 1, mild) - Enma (level 10, choose at your own risk). I usually only get mild but am interested to try level 2 or 3 next time! The following is what I tried: -Chicken Kaarage 5/5 : I've tried so many Chicken Karaage dishes in my lifetime and this one is solid! The chicken is crispy, crackle-y, moist, and tender on the inside. I love that it's served with a plump, charred shishito pepper, lemon wedge, and my favorite matcha salt c: The overall dish is bright, not greasy, and balanced from the various toppings! -Shrimp Tempura 3/5 : I love shrimp but there wasn't anything special about this appetizer. I feel like the tempura coating could've been lighter and the dipping sauce (soy or teriyaki?) was on the saltier side. I think a ponzu or sweeter/ lighter sauce ( similar to tentsuyu- traditional dipping sauce) would be much better. Glad I tried this dish once but won't be ordering it again. -Tonkatsu Ramen 5/5 : This dish is a newer item on Hinodeya's menu and all I can say is WOW! This ramen was delicious! Served in a Hokkaido- style miso broth, the flavors of this dish were very rich and buttery but not heavy. The wheat noodles were perfectly chewy and the crispy/juicy Tonkotsu cutlet on top was just *chef's kiss*. I also enjoyed the perfectly cooked, jammy ramen egg on the side and the addition of fresh spinach, green onions, bamboo, and corn to add texture and balance the richness from both the meat and broth. Don't be intimidated by the small pat of butter that they provide on the top! It truly made the broth creamy and velvety. We can always work those extra calories off at the gym ;) I will definitely be coming back to this location next time!

The vegan creamy ramen was very wholesome and rejuvenating - Spinach ramen had a very good texture, the sweet tofu was just the right pairing for the creamy but spicy broth. Spice levels can be customized though. Vegan options are limited here, but the dish alone makes it worth a visit.

    SPICY MISO Butter Corn RAMEN
    Sahithi B.

3.5 I ordered the Spicy Miso butter corn ramen from here during this cold for California week. The food was made and brought to me relatively quickly and the packing was all separate so the toppings stayed intact. I probably should have asked for some chili oil/crisp because it wasn't spicy in my opinion but the broth flavor was good and the noodles were nice and chewy. The chicken was not as dry as some places in the ramen which was appreciated.

Great ramen spot to dine right before catching a show. Got combos with a perfect size of ramen and rice dish. The resto is cozy with dimmed lighting.

    New! Edamame Sticks
    Julia T.

Dine in! Don't get takeout at a noodle place. Ramen was delicious and came with multiple slices of pork chashu and spicy miso on the side. Edamame sticks were off putting, the herb seasoning helped but would not recommend.

If you go to restaurants looking for good service, don't go here. Went here with my family, and we all felt a forgotten middle child.

First off: the location of this place just turned out to be a very closed off location. Not a lot of people knew about it, and the entrance towards the restaurant was rather pretty dark. It seemed kind of unwelcome, and we even had to wait a little bit even though there were plenty of seats available (I would understand the shortage of people serving, but even then, that shouldn't be an excuse. We shouldn't be the ones bearing the responsibility for it). I felt like as if I was rushed through this whole experience. Not only were the seating places small, but also, the portion for what they were offering was not worth it for its price. The customer service was almost as if it was non existent. I tried their ramen, and while the ramen noodles were good, the chashu was really rubbery and the onion taste was too overpowering. In addition, the pork broth was too salty, and was WAY too hot. Also, the fact that four gyozas were a little bit too less. I honestly don't know if I'm going to come back, unless things improve otherwise. It's just my take on this restaurant, but I think they need quite a bit of improving.

We wanted to order the Chicken Paitan DX but we were told that their grill was not working so they could not grill the chicken thigh that came with the DX order. The soups came in bowls that were irrgular shaped and colorful. Everything tasted good. The chicken Karaage was generously portioned and tasted great. My son devoured them in no time. The Hakata Tonkatsu had a very rich, well developed broth that was so delicious. Might have been a little too rich for me as I was not able to finish the meal. The chicken Paitan was also delicious but the broth was a lighter broth. Our gyoza order did not come until much later in the meal. We had to remind our waiter that we did not get our order. This dish, gyoza, was disappointing. It did not look like it was homemade - looked more store bought. We didn't care for the taste with the dipping sauce that came with it. Not sure if this was because we had the heavier broth first. It just fell flat after the robust and rich hakata tonkatsu meal I had. Service was friendly. The waiter and manager(?), were apologetic that the gyoza order was delayed (or forgotten?). They also apologized for their grill not working that day. I would definitely come back here to try the other items on their menu.
