The base AYCE is only $35 dollars and has a huge variety of marinated and un-marinated meets in addition to all of the usual sides you can think of like kimchi, rice, and lettuce wraps along with appetizers like gyoza and some of the best takoyaki I've ever had -- super crispy and creamy on the inside. They also have a wide selection of sauces, including standout brisket sauce and a savory-spicy chili paste. Ordering is done over a QR code and you can order six items at a time, including sides, but you can immediately place an order after placing one. I like this system, particularly paired with the small portions for the individual meats that you order, because it makes it easy to try many things and eat at your own pace without feeling like if a server comes by you have to maximize what you're ordering every time. Our favorite meats were the spicy pork belly, the sweet soy beef shoulder, and the thinly sliced beef brisket. This place is decent, but not the best. A few items on the menu were out of stock or not available because they're coming soon. The physical menu also didn't specify which items are not available, so we kept trying to look for it on the ordering menu with the QR code and eventually had to ask a staff member. Also, the meats aren't that seasoned so they were a little bland. A lot of the appetizers/sides come with mayonnaise on it, so if you're not a big fan of mayo, you may not like some of the sides. I didn't see a spot on the QR code ordering if you can specify no mayo, so maybe you can let the staff know and they can help order it instead. Also, because of how the grill/fire cooks, you have to put the meats directly in the center of the grill because it doesn't cook the meats on the sides and even if it's in the middle directly on top of the fire, it cooks the meats very slowly. Came Wednesday night at 6pm, and parking was easy to find since it's in a pretty big plaza, and there was no wait. They do have a yelp waitlist, so it may be more useful on Friday or the weekends if it's busier. They use online ordering with a QR code, and it shows the 90 minute timer, so the timing is very strict for ordering. I don't usually get fried appetizers at AYCE, but they had squid tentacles so of course I was curious. The way they fried this was perfect. Not too doughy and just the perfect amount of crisp. Before of this, I decided to try their takoyaki. It was one of the best I've had in a while. The appetizers were a mixed bag. The cheese corn was good, and there's grilled miso eggplant, seaweed salad, and more available. The eggplant came out a bit over-grilled, and the seaweed salad never showed up even though we ordered it. Ordering is through a QR code at the table. You can place a new order every few minutes. The table also has a good variety of sauces plus salt so you can mix things up as you go. What a great value and great food! One thing that is really nice is the ventilation of the grills, you won't come out smelling like smoke! The Wagyu menu is $55 and basically you get a limited amount of Wagyu, but it was way more than we could have eaten. The other standard meats on the menu for $35 only would have been perfectly fine if you don't want Wagyu. What I really like is the sides are so good! My personal favorite is the Agadashi tofu, it's a big piece that is just cooked so perfectly silky with the sauce 9/10! The octopus and chicken Karage were quite good as well. Got put on the waitlist prior to our arrival via the yelp app which was very helpful. By the time we got there, we didn't wait too much longer to be seated. They have two options for the ayce, either standard or premium. Both come with many options. The standard menu is 35. The premium menu is 55 and includes wagyu and a drink. The also offer alcoholic beverages which are a separate charge. Once you are seated and the waiter activates your table, you have 90 minutes. Your last order must be placed before 75 minutes. You scam the QR code that is on the table and can place your order. You can add 6 meats at a time. Their menu had the meat, a few rice bowls and a few appetizers. They had 3 sauces at each table, fruity, miso and a soy sauce twist one. All were good. You also have the option to order a spicy sauce and a brisket sauce via the app. The staff was very polite. It didnt take too long for the food and drinks ordered to be brought out. The staff was constantly picking up the empty dishes from our table. No complaints with staff, they were great. Overall the restaurant was a good size with seating for 4-6 people at a time. Not sure how well multiple big groups would be seated. I had made an advanced reservation by phone for my group of 12 people to celebrate a birthday. It was for a Saturday at 6pm. Despite my group was 20 minutes late, the staffs were very accommodating. We were split between 2 tables close to each other. Each table had 1 grill. We opted for the $55/pp AYCE premium menu. The first order was taken by the staff. Each subsequent order was taken on our phones via QR code. It seemed we ordered much more than the 6 item limit allowed per round and it wasn't an issue. Items came out fast. Not only were the Wagyu items good, but so were most of the appetizers and side dishes including: Takoyaki, fried squid tentacles, agedashi tofu, karaage and miso eggplant. Some were just ok. I found the cheese corn to have too much mayo, the garlic fries were mid and the edamame had too much black pepper. If you are thinking of getting plain rice, get a donburi bowl because that way you have rice and meat too. When our 90 minutes up, we were never rushed to leave. The ordering system is via a website so you can keep ordering without waiting for a server to come to you. The food did come out pretty slow which may be because you are not assigned 1 specific server, but other than that it was a great meal! I definitely recommend upgrading for the wagyu meats. I really wanted to like this place but the "Wagyu" meal quality is just not it for me. Maybe I have been too spoiled with Chubby Cattle. I also understand that the premium tier is almost half of Chubby Cattle prices so I can't compare the two. We came on a Tuesday evening with a 7:30 PM reservation made through Resy. We arrived about 15 minutes early. The first host couldn't find our reservation and asked us to wait, but fortunately the other hostess called our name and we were seated right at our reserved time. The restaurant was absolutely packed, especially for a weekday. Every table was full, and it appeared there were only two front-of-house staff handling both hosting and serving. Because of that, service was extremely slow. We didn't receive water until about 30 minutes after being seated, and only after flagging down one of the busboys. The same thing happened with our sodas. We ordered them right away, asked about them around 45 minutes later, and had to remind our server again about 10 minutes after that before they finally arrived. The meat, however, came out at a steady pace throughout the meal. Some of the side dishes, like the takoyaki and fries, took much longer to arrive. We ordered the Premium Wagyu menu ($55), and the food was excellent. The meats were tender, flavorful, and definitely worth the price. Between the two of us, we ordered around 20 plates of meat and really enjoyed the quality. I honestly felt bad for the staff. The servers and busboys were working incredibly hard, but it seemed like they were simply understaffed. The busboys were even helping take care of tables because the two front-of-house staff were stretched so thin. If this is how busy it gets on a Tuesday night, I can't imagine what weekends are like. I hope they're adequately staffed for those crowds because the current setup didn't seem sustainable. Overall, despite the slow service, the food was excellent and offered great value. We went on a Saturday evening and I expected to be packed but was able to get seated fairly quickly after joining the waitlist. I also appreciate how the place doesn't smell like kbbq and seem to have pretty good ventilation for the smoke so my clothes didn't smell too much after eating. One thing though, booth felt a bit tight since I'm tall because the entire table was blocked by the grill so my legs were squished in so it wasn't too comfortable. In terms of the food, I thought it was decent. Truthfully not my favorite kbbq or bbq spot as some of the marinaded meats were salty and some meats felt tough or chewy. One complaint is the grill isn't friendly to thin cut meats so I found myself scraping the meat off the grill to eat it or it grills too fast so my meat is crunchy on some parts but raw in the center. Was visiting the area and we found this place as a recommended spot. They have two options for AYCE, and we chose the cheaper option. There was thankfully no line when we came for dinner around 7:30PM on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Place was bustling and staff were quickly moving around delivering orders. There was music playing and it was a bit loud. Staff checked in with us around 2 or 3 times to verify last call for our 90 minute seat time. The grill was hot the entire time and the grill was changed once. Bussers were also going around quickly picking up empty plates. Tables had a foldable portion where all the delivered food could be placed while the majority of the table is used for cooking and eating. We had to flag down a waiter to refill our water, but they were quick to help. There was a variety of sauce options available (the house spicy sauce was pretty good) and salt/pepper was in a smaller dish. To order, there's a laminated menu, and a QR code menu you can use to directly order into the kitchen. It's 6 orders at a time, but there was no limit to how many 6 order submissions you can make in a certain time frame. My favorite items were: marinated pork shoulder, takoyaki, cheese corn, and lettuce. The lettuce was crisp and fresh, and paired well with the corn cheese, meat, onion, salt/pepper, and sauce, for a delicious bite. There is an additional charge for soda, but it was refillable. They also have an empty plate which can be used as the "cooked food" plate to avoid cross contamination. Starting off, there was one server that explains the menu and take your order for the first round, but afterwards, you can order from the QR code. Very efficient and the meats came out fast. This was my second time visiting Ushiya Grill, and it will not be my last thanks to the great service provided by our server, Nathan. I am disappointed by the front-end staff though because upon arriving and checking in for my reservation, the lady at the front said they don't take reservations, so it's not possible for me to have one. I showed her the text confirmation, and she disregarded it, and I noticed my name was on the list on the iPad, and I had to point it out. She told us that's weird because they don't do reservations but ended up seating us on time. It was a little frustrating having to go through that though. The food was great! Ushiya is in a cursed location- over the years, many places have inhabited this spot, like malu bian bian and tk noodle, with tk noodle living the longest in my memory. We had to wait a decent amount on a saturday, something like 40 minutes. The expectations were high because of the hype behind this place. The interior doesn't change too much over the years. The previous restauraunts all had similar interiors and this looks more or less like a regular kbbq store. Their grills are kinda neat though! But because of the lack of holes, oil sloshes around. We personally felt it was pretty good but the meat quality was not leaps and bounds above solid kbbq. With the other options available This didn't stand out too much to us but it was solid for sure. I love that it isn't smoky like KBBQ and you leave without stinking like food smoke. There are 2 different tiers of meat options, Signature $35/person and Premium $55/person with the time limit of 2hrs. Premium tier also includes everything off the Signature tier. We chose the Premium option. Appetizers and sides are all included in the price. Each order of meat/sides came out within just a few minutes after ordering, we barely waited for anything to come out. Not all meats are good until we found the better ones and that made the experience SO MUCH better! Some of the initial meats we ordered were so tough and chewy they were bad. If you know what's good and order that right off the bat, the experience will probably be 10/10. Sauces are all at your table so no need to get up and down to get your sauce. This is my go to with my friend and his fiancé. We love this place and almost come exclusively for the large intestine! Meat selection is excellent. Everything you would want in an Asian BBQ...our favorite is the large intestine which is tasty and hard to find elsewhere. There soups are on point and their side dishes more than enough.
