I had made an advanced reservation by phone for my group of 12 people to celebrate a birthday. It was for a Saturday at 6pm. Despite my group was 20 minutes late, the staffs were very accommodating. We were split between 2 tables close to each other. Each table had 1 grill. We opted for the $55/pp AYCE premium menu. The first order was taken by the staff. Each subsequent order was taken on our phones via QR code. It seemed we ordered much more than the 6 item limit allowed per round and it wasn't an issue. Items came out fast. Not only were the Wagyu items good, but so were most of the appetizers and side dishes including: Takoyaki, fried squid tentacles, agedashi tofu, karaage and miso eggplant. Some were just ok. I found the cheese corn to have too much mayo, the garlic fries were mid and the edamame had too much black pepper. If you are thinking of getting plain rice, get a donburi bowl because that way you have rice and meat too. When our 90 minutes up, we were never rushed to leave. We didn't even get a reminder that our time was running out. Each staff was friendly. We would definitely come back again. read more

Came here to celebrate a friends birthday and we ordered the premium menu ($55/person) and I really enjoyed every meat that we ordered. The ordering system is via a website so you can keep ordering without waiting for a server to come to you. The food did come out pretty slow which may be because you are not assigned 1 specific server, but other than that it was a great meal! I definitely recommend upgrading for the wagyu meats. I went to Ushiya Grill on a Friday around 6:30 pm. The restaurant was almost full and had a ~15 minute waitlist but I think because my party was only 2 people, we were seated in a couple of minutes. The service was great, you can order 6 items at a time and it comes out very fast. The servers were friendly and working hard. Inside the restaurant, it has a lot of seating and is kept clean. The one thing I noticed is they didn't have hoods over the grill, yet the smoke in the restaurant was well kept. They must have great ventilation. We got the $55 wagyu AYCE and I was really glad we did. We got to choose from both menus. We tried maybe 80% of the items on the wagyu menu and there were definitely some that stood out more than others. If you opt for this menu, I would recommend doing the same. We also ordered from the standard menu and I really enjoyed the thick beef belly. Their thick cut pork belly wasn't very thick as I expected. Overall, I'd rate it 4/5 because there was a lot of variety and the quality was good but not necessarily excellent. I would come back again though as this is a great option. read more

Was visiting the area and we found this place as a recommended spot. They have two options for AYCE, and we chose the cheaper option. There was thankfully no line when we came for dinner around 7:30PM on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Place was bustling and staff were quickly moving around delivering orders. There was music playing and it was a bit loud. Staff checked in with us around 2 or 3 times to verify last call for our 90 minute seat time. The grill was hot the entire time and the grill was changed once. Bussers were also going around quickly picking up empty plates. Tables had a foldable portion where all the delivered food could be placed while the majority of the table is used for cooking and eating. We had to flag down a waiter to refill our water, but they were quick to help. There was a variety of sauce options available (the house spicy sauce was pretty good) and salt/pepper was in a smaller dish. To order, there's a laminated menu, and a QR code menu you can use to directly order into the kitchen. It's 6 orders at a time, but there was no limit to how many 6 order submissions you can make in a certain time frame. My favorite items were: marinated pork shoulder, takoyaki, cheese corn, and lettuce. The lettuce was crisp and fresh, and paired well with the corn cheese, meat, onion, salt/pepper, and sauce, for a delicious bite. There is an additional charge for soda, but it was refillable. They also have an empty plate which can be used as the "cooked food" plate to avoid cross contamination. We did enjoy most of the first rounds of meat, but once we got to the second round of the same meats, two of the meats were super tough to chew for some reason and it wasn't appetizing anymore. Inconsistent cuts methinks. The ones I'd get again would be short rib, finger rib, brisket. The raw yukke was like freshly frozen cut of meat. I wasn't super mad at it but if it could've been just a little less frozen (but it's not my first time I've had it prepared this cold). The sauce choices however were pretty good. Came here after a quick mission peak hike ( wasn't a quick hike) and got here an hour before they closed. They allowed us to stay after the doors were closed which I felt bad but they were very kind. Starting off, there was one server that explains the menu and take your order for the first round, but afterwards, you can order from the QR code. Very efficient and the meats came out fast. From the premium section, we tried their Harami, brisket, ribeye, beef tongue and zabuton. Honestly, I can barely taste the difference from one another. This was my second time visiting Ushiya Grill, and it will not be my last thanks to the great service provided by our server, Nathan. I am disappointed by the front-end staff though because upon arriving and checking in for my reservation, the lady at the front said they don't take reservations, so it's not possible for me to have one. I showed her the text confirmation, and she disregarded it, and I noticed my name was on the list on the iPad, and I had to point it out. She told us that's weird because they don't do reservations but ended up seating us on time. It was a little frustrating having to go through that though. The food was great! You order on your phone through the QR code on the table. The meats are very nice quality. I usually aim for the brisket and yakishabu. The corn cheese is also good because it comes in its own container to be put on the grill. Other places wrap it in foil, so I prefer this. Finally made time to eat here. The place is huge and my party walked in on a weekend evening without reservations. We were seated within minutes. Menu is all you can eat for 90 mins. There's the regular price of $35 per person or the upgrade price of $55 per person. The upgraded side includes premium cuts of meat like Wagyu. The tables are different than Korean bbq. The vents are built around the grill instead of a huge vent overhead. Ordering is done by QR code and a max of 6 plates can be ordered at a time. This is time consuming since every single plate counts toward that 6 such as a side of mushrooms or a cup of lettuce. So get all your meat orders in before ordering sides and sauces. The meat comes out in small trays which after a while they start to take up valuable table space. The meat selection on the printed menu and the QR menu doesn't really line up but we found what we wanted eventually. Grills are changed upon request and service was quick. Ushiya is in a cursed location- over the years, many places have inhabited this spot, like malu bian bian and tk noodle, with tk noodle living the longest in my memory. We had to wait a decent amount on a saturday, something like 40 minutes. The expectations were high because of the hype behind this place. The interior doesn't change too much over the years. The previous restauraunts all had similar interiors and this looks more or less like a regular kbbq store. Their grills are kinda neat though! But because of the lack of holes, oil sloshes around. We personally felt it was pretty good but the meat quality was not leaps and bounds above solid kbbq. With the other options available This didn't stand out too much to us but it was solid for sure. Always a delicious culinary experience of meat, meat, and more meat! The Raw Wagyu yukke is one of my favorite menu items here and an interesting take on what otherwise would be a tartare.. I suppose it could use a little bit of raw egg to balance it out, but whatever they use is nice and flavorful. The place has changed a bit since I last came, and the grill at the table had a much more open flame aspect to it, which does really well in getting a char on the meats, though susceptible to hotspots.. Just gotta learn the grill a bit to cook to your liking. The hotspots certainly cause grill marks, which.. depending on preference.. isn't necessarily desired. This is one of the better AYCE Japanese BBQ in the South Bay that my husband and I have had. We went here for a date night on a weekday and were seated fairly quickly. It's a very spacious spot. I love that it isn't smoky like KBBQ and you leave without stinking like food smoke. There are 2 different tiers of meat options, Signature $35/person and Premium $55/person with the time limit of 2hrs. Premium tier also includes everything off the Signature tier. We chose the Premium option. Appetizers and sides are all included in the price. Each order of meat/sides came out within just a few minutes after ordering, we barely waited for anything to come out. Not all meats are good until we found the better ones and that made the experience SO MUCH better! Some of the initial meats we ordered were so tough and chewy they were bad. If you know what's good and order that right off the bat, the experience will probably be 10/10. Sauces are all at your table so no need to get up and down to get your sauce. This is my go to with my friend and his fiancé. We love this place and almost come exclusively for the large intestine! Meat selection is excellent. Everything you would want in an Asian BBQ...our favorite is the large intestine which is tasty and hard to find elsewhere. There soups are on point and their side dishes more than enough. Nothing is bad at all and I have yet to try something I did not like. Service is awesome but they have seen us enough. They always ask for reservations but they see me and we get seated which I love! I usually have low expectation for AYCE KBBQ since I wouldn't expect the quality to be good, but Ushiya surprised me and my friends. The quality was actually pretty solid and there are many items to pick from the menu when it comes to sides and meat choices. We got the premium option, so ordered mostly waygu beefs. The only complaint was the portion, it's AYCE but some of the meats came with just 3 or 4 slices. We would all had a small piece, then had to keep ordering more, which was kind of annoying. So we decided to try this place on a Saturday night without a reservation. We walked in on a Saturday and were seated immediately. We opted for the premium course for $55/person. Once we were seated, we were greeted immediately and were given a menu. One thing I immediately noticed was the cleanliness. The menu I got had some sauce on it, and the table was sticky, needing another wipe down. The moment they sit you down, they activate the QR code once you decide which package you're going to do, and that is where you order from. From there on, you have pretty little interaction with your server. You order from the QR code, and they just set your orders on the little side table for you to grab when you're ready to cook them. Drinks were very limited. They don't have any hot tea or unsweet tea, and their drinks are all from their soda machine, which you would hope would have more choices, but it didn't. So one thing I will say is order accordingly. Order your food however you want it set on your table. They only allow you 6 per order. I ordered a combination of meat and sides first, then the rice and the rest of the sides. The first order came right away, but it was only the meat and the cheese corn. The rest of the sides took a while to arrive at our table. We had to ask one of the hosts for our sides cause it took too long. Our meat was already done, and yet we still had no rice. The host got us the rice immediately, and our initial order arrived at our table another 5 minutes later. The meat quality was really good, but their customer service was very mediocre. Even asking for the bill took a while. I then had to ask the host again for our bill, since our initial server never really checked on us after he activated our QR code. All in all, this was an okay experience. There are definitely better Japanese BBQs in the bay. read more

I came in for the $35 per person AYCE menu. The menu states that there is a 2 person minimum per table. I joined the Yelp waitlist while going to the restaurant. I've seen this spot get packed so I'm glad I beat the dinner rush. The floors are slippery from grease. I recommend walking very carefully through the restaurant and assisting those in your party that may be at risk for falling or slipping. Once you are seated, a staff member will come over with a tablet and activate the QR Code on your table. This will allow you to order from your phone. Keep an eye on the website because it added 5 bowls of rice, 1 edamame , and more without us touching the website. It was just me and my boyfriend so I know we didn't order it. Some meats were better than others; the one that looks similar to a bulgogi was really good. It was juicy and tender. I can't say the same for the last batch of brisket we received. It was dry and chewy. I know it wasn't cooking error since we cooked the first batch of brisket well. I saw many reviews saying that takoyaki was really good. Weekday dinners probably a good time to go or right when they open. They also have delicious sides to chose from as well, from chicken karaage to dumplings to miso eggplant and miso soup. Yakiniku is a lot more rare than its Korean counterpart, so I was excited about finding an AYCE Japanese BBQ (with minor KBBQ influence) to go to after a morning of fishing. Ushiya Grill is relatively new, so I think they've tweaked a few things since my visit. Currently, their basic menu is $35/pp and the premium menu with wagyu is $55/pp. I opted for the basic menu like I usually do on my first visit to an AYCE because meat is meat. Good * Meat quality is solid and marinades are good (spicy here means drizzled with gochujang). * Food comes out fast, and service is solid. * The fruit soy and miso sauces on the table are tasty. * Soy marinaded meats are flavored well; sweet soy finger rib was our favorite cut. * Very popular and busy, but seems to have a shorter wait time than other AYCE places in the bay, and usage of Yelp waitlist and reservations. * Reasonable price for AYCE yakiniku. Bad * They may forget an order submission, or forget to tell you it's out of stock. * Paper menu differs from what they actually offer on the QR code you use to order from phone, so it's hard to plan for what to eat, and several items listed on the paper menu were not available. * Water is room temperature and basically tap water flavored with a lemon slice. * Rice is questionably dirty, hard, dry, and clumped up. * Appetizers are budget versions. * The thinner cuts have a tendency to stick to the grill.
