As of right now, this is my favorite restaurant in the entire Bay Area. My favorite food is Japanese pasta. I had it in Japan and it changed my understanding of how delicious food could be. I'll always dream about a particular pasta dish I had near Kyoto Station...but I digress. If you've never had Japanese pasta, it's sort of difficult to describe. Think of Italian pasta, but if the sauce were less thick and there were a greater variety of flavors and textures. I think it's an overall cleaner and more varied experience. I prefer it. When done well, it has a certain quality that keeps you addicted. You can keep eating it and savoring every bite without feeling weighed down. I just love it. La Casa Mia does it well. In fact, out of every restaurant I've tried that attempts Japanese pasta, this place comes the closest by far. It might even match it. During my most recent visit, I tried the uni (sea urchin) pasta. Amazing. But the standout menu item, everyone, is the Salmon Shimeji. Oh, I love it so much. So savory. Little chunks of salmon, with roe, dainty little mushrooms, and all kinds of other ingredients perfectly cooked blended. A sauce that warms your soul and makes you want to keep eating. I honestly wish I could describe it better, but ironically, my favorite dish in the entire Bay Area is so good that I can't describe it. You'll just have to try it yourself. If they ever take the Salmon Shimeji off the menu, I will probably literally cry. I need this. When things in life get rough, I go for this dish. The fusion between Japanese and Italian brings me into curiosity since I've never been to a restaurant like this. I would understand Asian fusion between two Asian countries, but this is different since it's quite unusual to blend Asian and European ingredients. It was quite packed when I got here and the place is small. It's a good thing that I was able to get a seat. I wanted to take more pictures but there were too many people. At the same time, the place is very nice here especially with the decorations they have here. I was scrolling through the menu and there was a menu item that has pork cutlet, but I have been having that type of cutlet numerous times already. So I decided to get the Salmon Shimeji instead. Next time, I'll get the other one. The food is good though. At the same time, it doesn't really surprise me since it's kinda like something you can make at home. However, the ingredients are fresh and the salmon is good. They used spaghetti pasta to make this dish and there are baby fish eggs and tall, small mushrooms called shimeji. I wasn't really too full at the end, but this is good news since I don't have to feel tired. One of the staff asked me if I can look at their desserts and I did. However, I didn't get any of them since I'm trying to cut back on my eating. This was quite the experience I have here. I love the setting of this restaurant, so cute! I ordered a Salmon Shimeji Mushroom Risotto and it was the perfect amount of saltiness, and softness to the rice. The Mentaiko Mayo Mochi Cheese pizza is a must try, it is so unique but delicious! I love the mochi and the sausage choice on the pizza. The potato pieces did throw me off since it was a thick cut but nice additional for flavor. Staff is very kind and gave good suggestions. Been wanting to try this place for a while because I enjoy fusion food. Came here on a Saturday when they opened and had no problem getting a table for 6 including 2 kids. Good place for kids since they have high chairs and kid meals. I don't recall if they had a diaper station in the bathroom, that might have been limit. Nice customer service but some food like the uni pasta and carbonara has gone down. I think I had big expectations because I enjoyed my other time here but I didn't like my food. It was salty, creamy, and sweet but not in a good way. They didn't have seafood for some reason even though we went early lunch. Garlic bread was tiny; definitely not worth 8 dollars. I had a reservations for a Friday lunch at 1 but it wasnt required. The store was completely empty so it was actually kind of nice to have the place to ourselves. The one server was super kind and interacted with my littles. Food portions were larger than expected, and dedinitely could have been a sharable. What a great find! La Casa Mia had been on my list of places to try for a while, and it did not disappoint. I made a reservation for a Thursday dinner at 6 PM, and we were greeted and seated right away. The service was warm and attentive from the start. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary salad and vegetable soup, both of which were a wonderful way to begin the meal. The mentaiko pasta was the highlight of the evening, rich, creamy, savory, and full of flavor. Since we had noted on our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, the restaurant also treated us to a complimentary scoop of ice cream with a birthday candle, which was such a thoughtful touch. The host was incredibly kind and made sure we were well taken care of throughout our visit. Between the excellent service, delicious food, and welcoming atmosphere, La Casa Mia made our celebration feel extra special. I always wanted to try this place since I heard of it but never got the chance until recently. Fusion food has never been my favorite cuisine but the combination of Italian/Japanese piqued my interest. [[ Location ]] It's in a familiar plaza in Milpitas most noticeably with the Lion's Grocery Store but it has a ton of other stores in the area too. There is plenty of parking but it can get crowded sometimes when its busy (aka lunch/dinner) but you'll always find parking. You might have to walk a bit further. [[ Restaurant ]] In my opinion, the first thing you will notice is that this place is SMALL. It's really nicely decorated inside but it just feels small overall. It wasn't too busy when we went but I can see it filling up on the weekends. [[ Service ]] I'm not sure if they normally do this but they went around and gave us free salad and a cup of soup to anyone who wanted it in the restaurant. I thought that was a nice surprise and a nice touch that made the dining experience really nice. Also I'm a huge fan of their free birthday treat. Most places just give you a small piece of cake or something but La Casa Mia gives you multiple scoops of ice cream and a nice happy birthday sign at the end of the meal. I thought that was really touching and the whole group was able to enjoy the ice cream without feeling like we had to control how big of a spoon we got. [[ Food ]] I feel like we got to try most of the more interesting food here but the group got the following: 1.) French Fries with Truffle Oil 2.) Carbonara with Udon ($2 add on) 3.) It's been on my to-go list for a long time and I finally got a chance to visit. I love the earthy and homey aesthetic; it made me feel at home. It's spacious and has plenty of seating. Wow! It's so great to have this spot in Milpitas. We love Japanese Italian fusion and had been looking for a local spot to get our fix. Very cute decor in the restaurant, almost like a garden or afternoon tea vibe which we really liked. The servers were very nice and were able to point out what items on the menu were vegetarian for my family family. We wound up getting the Pomodoro, the mushroom melody pizza the katsu pasta and the uni, with some bread and fries as appetizers. The bread was very fresh, warm, and fluffy. Very tasty. The fries were interesting, clearly fresh cut single fry fries, so don't expect a super crispy fry, but the potato taste was quite nice. The mushroom pizza was a highlight, we loved the combination of the asian mushrooms, lots of umami with a nice crisp crust, highly recommend this one. My uni pasta was great, perfectly seasoned, salty with a fresh seafood aroma from the uni and the ikura salmon roe, I would get this again in a heartbeat. Desserts were decent, I was hoping to get the Match panacotta but they were out. We got some ice cream and the Casatta instead which was ok, I would probably skip the Casatta in the future and hope to get the panacotta instead. All the food was absolutely delicious and the fact that they were so visually appealing, made it that much more extra. Looking from the outside I would not have thought this place was so good! The sauce was yummy as the truffle wasn't too overwhelming. - Japanese Mushroom Melody Pizza ($29): Made with a white sauce with shimeji, maitake, shiitake mushrooms, & mozzarella. We decided to grab dinner here this past Sunday. The online ordering system on the website wasn't working (it would not accept payments), so we ordered by phone and paid on site when picking up. Our order was ready by the quoted wait time of 30 minutes. Service was standard and sufficient. The place had a cute interior setting. The plaza lot was crowded but not impossible to find parking. We got the salmon shimeji mushroom risotto, veggie pomodoro, and side salad which was very colorful. The pomodoro had tiny bits and pieces of vegetables but it was so little that it felt like eating plain noodles with tomato sauce. A bit disappointing. The risotto was better, a nice mix of salmon, mushrooms, and fish eggs. It was creamy and delish, even if the size of the dish was tiny. The baguette was plain but the whipped butter was so nice and light with a touch of smokiness. I anticipated that the mentaiko spaghetti was going to be overly salty and creamy but I shouldn't assume. I had a taste and it was balanced with flavor. Not overwhelming with one ingredient nor the other. I loved the shiso leaves that were sprinkled in. The look and feel of the place reminds me of a casual tea place. It's well lit but there is limited seating. The risotto, however, was a bit of a letdown as it was way too salty for our taste. Since I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, our waitress brought a sweet touch: two scoops of ice cream with a candle. We also ordered the matcha tiramisu, which was pleasant but not particularly memorable -- not overly sweet, but nothing that lingered either. The honey mustard is a light drizzle on the chicken allows for some slightly sweet or savory bites, 5/5 stars! Carbonara ($19): the pasta was al dente but the flavors were subtle which is surprising for a carbonara, 3/5 stars. The salmon eggs adds the salt naturally and the flavor feels balanced. The portion seems more in line with an entre rather then an appetizer. This is a solid dish on the menu. Pasta: Seafood Pescatore - Bianco (4 / 5) Seafood pasta with white sauce tasted on a lighter side. The scallop, clams, and white wine is blended nicely with the pasta. The jumble shrimp instead of regular shrimp they provide for you is a big surprise. The attention to detail is good, I would have personally preferred a slightly stronger blend in sauce though. Pizza: Meat Sauce Mochi Pizza - (4 / 5) Ever thought pizza can be mixed in with mochi? Look no more! This one is it. The texture to this pizza is unique, however the meat sauce pizza had just very minimal meat. There's just a lot of ummm....sauce. That left a lot to be desired that can be added to this this dish. Kid's dish: La Casa Mia Kids Plate - (5 / 5) Got the Mentaiko Fish Roe as the pasta choice for my son. He loved it, so that's a 5 / 5 for me! Japanese pasta just works. Unfortunately I was still a bit underwhelmed with my experience. Not sure why this place is so popular! It's unique I guess, don't really see many other restaurants with the same dishes, but the prices are astronomical and the taste is just ok. We tried the Mentaiko Mayo Mochi Cheese Pizza - again. Last time, the crust was VERY undercooked. This time, I think it was cooked better, but the crust was so flavorless, it didn't add much to the dish at all. Might taste better just eating it all with noodles and without a crust. We also got the Sukiyaki, with pasta noodles. I didn't wanna pay $2 for udon lol.
