We already ate some before I took this lol but LOOK HOW FRESH AND PRETTY!!!

My sister and i randomly found this place on google because our other fav spot was closed. we have such high expectations for sushi and it was genuinely some of the best and freshest fish we've ever had! Emily also made us laugh and she was such a kind and attentive server, coming over often to make sure we were all good. We are definitely coming back soon!! Ambience is cute and very homey, love the bar area too

Bummed to do this because most reviews are spawned from negative experiences but this is necessary. The food wait for a restaurant that had 3 small parties was almost 40 mins and I heard a couple tables complaining. The waitress kept saying it's coming, it's coming. Then I received the 2 rolls that she'd recommended because I asked for rolls with tuna because it's my favorite. I've never really examined my rolls before because they all tend to look the same. These did not (see pics). The spicy tuna was very almost painted on sparingly and covered just the tip of the roll. It was hidden under the yellowtail and on the other roll just blatantly insufficient. Like most sushi goers, I've been eating these types of rolls for 20 years and this was mostly just rice, imitation crab and not tasty. Not wanting to create a scene I called Emily over and she said that is how they do the rolls and dismissed me with "if you want extra protein, you should have ordered sashimi". Again, I looked awkwardly at her and said that's not a good explanation for a $20 roll. She said there's nothing she could do but sorry about the long wait. There's a rule in customer service that you tend not to make a bad customer experience worse with straight faced indifference. I said I wouldn't be back and mentioned I would actually Yelp this bad experience for others to be aware. I wasn't sure if it was a cultural misunderstanding, but Emily said she reads all yelp reviews. So this one's for Emily.

Found Sushi Kan just driving around SJ. Came a little before they opened at 5, so we waited in the parking lot until they opened. We were the first people in but shortly after us, people started to show up..& we see why! Service was great -- our server was very attentive & often refilled waters & asked if everything was okay. Food was soooo good! My partner said the island breeze was easily one of his favorites & mine was the altered Victoria's Secret (not a fan of scallops & asparagus so we asked for it to be made without). They have a parking lot in the back of the restaurant & street parking, so for us, parking wasn't hard to find.

Stopped by here for the first time a month ago, and got a ramen and scallop nigiri. The ramen was vegetable heavy. The broth was delicious. Unfortunately they don't have any vegetarian options for ramen. It was hands down such good scallop nigiri because it was sweet and yummy. I would love to try more of their sushi. They were also friendly and I look forward to having sushi here again! The ambiance is nice if you're looking for a casual sushi restaurant. Parking lot is in the back which is nice.

We finally found time to dine in at Sushi Kan, which did not disappoint. The customer service and food were amazing. The restaurant itself was a good size; the sushi bar was to the right, and regular dining was to the left. They have a tendency to get busy, and sometimes, they only have one server. Their food is good for the price point. Also, being off 1st Street, I am glad that they have their parking lot with surveillance. We ordered the shrimp tempura, Teriyaki Bento Box with the Tekka maki, and the nigiri deluxe. Our meal came with miso soup, which was good and not salty, just the right amount. Overall, this dine-in experience was great, and we've been back multiple times since.

After an 8 hour drive from Los Angeles, my fiancé and I were desperate for a meal and checked out Sushi Kan. Oh man, the sushi here did NOT disappoint! Food: We ordered the sashimi platter and the nigiri deluxe. Whooo! It was great quality. The portion was perfect for 2 people. High-quality grade sushi. The cuts were nicely sliced, it felt generous. Good ratio of rice and fish. Service: So nice. The host was also our server. She was kind - took our order, refilled our waters, and gave us our check in a timely manner. No complaints. Location: We found parking right in front of their restaurant. Plenty of street parking and they also have a parking lot, so you shouldn't have a problem. Definitely will be back to eat their nigiri and sashimi again! Might try a roll too. The fish quality did not disappoint.

Thank you Emily and Tina for your great food and service! We had a big order but they were kind to let me pick up at a later time! We ordered -Rainbow roll, Cherry Blossom, Orange Blossom, Sex in the City (my favorite! The sauce was really yummy!) California roll, and Warriors roll-- with a side of gyoza and takoyaki! The rolls were great quality and we can taste how fresh the fish is. We eat sushi often and everyone gives it 10/10! We finished it all too and ate it well. Hope to stop by again

Very fresh, tasty sushi in an unassuming and quasi traditional Japanese looking dining room. We ordered the Hot Night (shrimp tempura, crab, tuna, crunchies, avocado?) and the Supremely Spicy (spicy tuna, tuna, jalapeño, tobiko...). Both were very, very good. Service was super friendly and helpful in deciding what to order. The food came out quickly. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy nearby... It was good enough that we would return if in the area.

Sushi Kan is by far the best Sushi in the Bay Area. We drive an hour each way just to eat there. The service is great and we were in and out in 30 minutes!

It was pretty packed when I went, so the wait for seating and food was a bit long, but the flavor definitely made up for it. Everything tasted great, and the service was really friendly. The vibes were fun and had a nice Japanese feel to them. Overall, worth the visit. I'll be coming back.

Was craving sushi with a couple of friends and decided to stop by Sushi-Kan to check this place out. When we walked in, right away we were sat almost immediately! What we ordered: Appetizers (3/5): we got the soft shell crab and squid legs tempura and I have to say we were a bit disappointed by the portion control they brought us. For 12-15 bucks each we would get a little bit more than expected. Flavor and taste was good though! Angry bird roll (5/5): so delicious! Comes with shrimp tempura and cucumbers on the inside and a variety of fish like salmon, tuna and yellowtail on the outside. Each bite tasted so fresh too! My friends got the Gail roll and the Island Breeze, they absolutely loved it. I had a chance to try each of them and I would recommend getting these next time I come here! We each ordered a miso soup, it was super refreshing and delicious! My only complaints would be that the soup came scorching hot like it felt like straight out of the broiler type of hot! Overall, this is not a bad place to come by if you are craving sushi. Just a heads up that it seems like they are currently understaff so service might take a little longer than usual here.

So good! Met a friend from out of state here for dinner on 7/11/25. We all got something different. My son got the Dracula Killer and the Island Volcano both spicy options. Our friend got the Spider roll and the Dragon roll, not spicy but excellent. I really wish I could remember the name of the dish I ordered maybe the photo will help. It was gorgeous! The sashimi was beautiful and so fresh! We also got the Goyza and mixed tempura, not at all greasy , light flavor, very nicely done. Atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. Service was great! We were given plenty of time to look over the menu-someone had a LOT of fun making up names for some of these rolls!-when I could not choose(it ALL looks so good!) Our server (Emma?) was so helpful. You can see the wonderful recommendation she gave, it was both beautiful and filling. Would definitely stop by again next time we are in the area.

Luckily, I did make that reservation and we both got there before opening (5:30pm) so we beat the rush hour dinner time. We were promptly seated and they took our drink and asked if we were ready. We were busy catching up and weren't ready and they came twice and so we just decided the bento box because we were both hungry. While the bento looked smaller than others I've been to. The quality was there and the food was just perfect. I really enjoyed the food at Izakaya. The sashimi cuts of ahi tuna is amazing, while not as big as others that are non-traditional Japanese restaurants. I love the quality and the food they offer. The curry was okay not bad but not my favorite either (3/5). It's good to make 2 meals out of. The agedashi tofu was a bit disappointing since the breading was not light (2/5). My go to dish is a chirashi bowl. Here it is called 'Kaisen Don'. It was a perfect proportion for me. Not too big and tasty. It comes with Misi Soup. The ambience is simple and focused on providing an atmosphere to eat. I didn't feel like lingering after I finished my thoroughly satisfying dinner.

Recently revisited Kaita Restaurant in San Jose Japantown and added a nigiri assortment alongside…read moretheir tonkatsu. The nigiri sushi was solid and technically sound. What stood out was the sushi rice. Each grain was distinct, properly hydrated, and lightly seasoned. On the bite, the rice separates cleanly instead of compressing into a paste - a clear indication of correct water absorption, starch gelatinization, and temperature control. This is rice handled with intention, not shortcuts. The tonkatsu was excellent. The breading was evenly fried and crisp without excess oil, pointing to stable frying temperature and moisture control. Inside, the pork remained juicy and tender, suggesting proper resting after frying so the protein fibers could retain their internal moisture. The baseline items I always order here continue to perform consistently well: Premium kaisendon Tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet / egg sushi) Agedashi tofu This visit, I deliberately ordered both versions of the agedashi tofu - with and without mushrooms. The side-by-side comparison was precise and revealing. The standard agedashi tofu highlights clean dashi and texture control: a crisp exterior transitioning into a custardy interior. The mushroom-enhanced version, which is priced higher, introduces an additional aromatic layer. The mushrooms contribute natural glutamates, increasing perceived umami and extending the savory finish without masking the dashi. Importantly, the frying technique and tofu structure remain identical - the difference is compositional rather than technical. That kind of controlled comparison only works when a kitchen is confident in its fundamentals. A special mention goes to the chūtoro (medium fatty tuna) in the premium kaisendon. Its quality has remained remarkably consistent over the years - clean freshness, defined structure, and a refined, aromatic fat profile that melts cleanly on the palate rather than smearing. This level of stability reflects disciplined sourcing and the owner's insistence on serving fish only at its optimal state. Overall, this revisit reaffirmed why Kaita remains one of the more reliable Japanese restaurants in San Jose Japantown. What's happening here isn't trend-driven - it's physics, chemistry, and restraint applied quietly and consistently. That kind of consistency is engineered, not accidental. Dr. C Food, like engineering, is physics and chemistry under discipline. If it can't be repeated, it isn't quality.
