We had a lovely dinner with a special visit from the owner Yoshi. The food was spectacular with my favorite being the Crunch roll and Blackened Miso Cod. The sushi was fresh and they had a huge (9 pages) saki list. Yoshi listened to our tastes and suggested a wonderful saki to accompany our meal. Very nice evening all around.

Visiting Sausalito made us want some fish and sushi. We ordered two rolls, tempura, miso soup, and some tea. The miso soup and tea really hit the spot. The tempura was alright but the sushi disappointed a bit more than expected. The meat slices in the sushi were so thin it barely felt like we were eating meat. The service was fast and we got sat down quickly but I think the portions of fish to sushi need to be looked at! There were outside and inside seats when we were there, it was near downtown and had a nice ambiance.

Sushi Ran is a Japanese restaurant serving rolls, nigiri&sashimi, sushi, small plates, salads, soups, tempura, and hot protein selections with Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. AMBIANCE Zen, modern interior with covered exterior seating, also under a canopy SERVICE Welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly, attentive FOOD 5/5 Miso Black Cod: super tender, grilled crisp, with a sweet and savory miso glaze. Every bite was heaven and the aromas were fragrant. The sautéed spinach and shimeji mushrooms were tender and had a smoky flavor. Rice is perfect. Presentation was also a plus. 5/5 asari miso: tender manilla clams in a savory miso broth with green onions 4/5 Agedashi Tofu: hot, deep fried w/ ginger, green onion, daikon, nori & bonito flake. The savory side of broth gives the tofu a much needed flavor boost. PARKING Limited street and backside lot parking

Cute sushi spot in downtown Sausalito! Sushi Ran has been on my list for a while and finally got to try it for my friend's birthday. We sat in the patio and our server handled our party of 10 very well. I ordered the premium sushi set which came with 6 nigiri (and a chef's choice roll). The nigiri was very fresh and tasty and loved all the toros! We had a variety of appetizers and some of my faves were chicken karaage, shrimp and basil dumplings and Brussels sprouts.

My fiancé booked omakase dinner here for my birthday and it was an amazing experience. Chef Eli was so nice and was a pleasure to talk to throughout our dinner. We enjoyed the setup of the experience. We booked 5:15pm and there was one other couple. So that was one chef per party which I think worked out well since we didn't feel rushed and they were pretty attentive. The omakase set was 18 course for $185 which we thought was fair, and we were stuffed at the end. It was about a 2 hour experience and everything was paced well. Everything was delicious. Some of my favorites were the toro and caviar, amaebi, uni, kohada, and toro hand roll. Chef gave me extra uni for my birthday which was so nice of him. He also shared that he actually made the pecan mochi cake for the menu which was a perfect end to dinner. Not too sweet and the textures worked nicely together. Sushi Ran rotates some of the offerings on the omakase menu every week. The firefly squid was a new addition for our day's tasting menu which was also new in general for us. Fiancé and I have been to a handful of omakase places so it's nice when we find out about new fishes/seafood. Sushi Ran definitely gets packed and they have lots of indoor/outdoor seating. Their regular menu looks pretty good too. Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner!

Have heard so many good things about this restaurant but unfortunately it fell short for me. The tempura was lacking a bit in flavor, even with the sauce. The service was great and our waiters gave us a good experience. The back patio is ok but definitely better to sit inside or in the front area. I did really like the drinks we had though.

Cocktails are really good and the service was attentive. We sat outside in the tent but I think inside is likely cuter. I will say that we are vegetarian and so there are very few options on the menu and none of them were to write home about. I there are many better sushi restaurants across the bridge in sf!

Omakase Heaven in a Cozy, Classy Hideaway Worth Every Visit I've been here a couple of times and each time ordered the ten-piece omakase -- an experience curated by the itamae (chef). The fish is consistently fresh and high quality, served at the ideal temperature (room temp or slightly chilled) so the flavors really come through. Nothing is served warm, which is exactly how it should be. Service is efficient and professional. Staff are knowledgeable, patient, and explain ingredients without overdoing it. Presentation is clean, refined, and clearly handled with care -- not flashy, but elegant. The restaurant itself has a calm, intimate atmosphere -- ideal for a quiet dinner or even a focused one-on-one conversation. There's indoor seating split into two sections, and a well-sized outdoor area as well. Bonus: they have a strong wine and sake list that's actually worth browsing. We came right at noon for their opening and were seated immediately. Parking around here can be hit or miss, but we found a spot on a nearby side street without too much trouble (always read the signs). The menu is extensive and leans traditional. If you appreciate the details of Japanese cuisine, you'll notice the craft behind every bite. And if you don't, they'll still make you feel welcome. All in all, Sushi Ran delivers -- Just quality, consistency, and care.

Beautiful weather to eat sushi outdoor at a beautiful sushi restaurant. I tried: 1. Clam miso soup 2. Chef's choice sashimi set 3. Seaweed salad 4. Seasonal mixed greens 5. Soba noodles with tempura

Reputed to be one of the best Japanese sushi restaurants in the US we decided to give it a go for dinner. The place has been around for over 30 years and I had eaten here some twenty years ago. It was so good I came twice within a couple days. It's grown considerably since then, with two sections of indoor seating and a good amount of outdoor seating too. Parking can be tough yet we found a spot easily in a side street, just be cautious of posted regulations. Having made a reservation a couple weeks ago we were immediately seated and I was surprised how crowded it was at just after 5pm on a Friday. Unfortunately, we were crammed into a small table, indoors, right on a main entry point into the place. It wasn't all that comfortable or pleasant, also being right up against a heater. We did have a somewhat close view of the sushi bar, which is always interesting. The menu is complex and extensive. In many ways you need to know Japanese cuisine and all its refinements and nuances. I started with the miso soup and my hetter half had the mixed green salad. The miso was quite good with a big chunk of tofu. It is quite hearties than the clear miso soups you typically get in mainstream Japanese restaurants. The salad was a definite standout. I tried some and the greens were super fresh and the dressing amazing, light with a touch of lemon. We ordered the Premium Sushi Platter and a Spicy Tuna Roll. The presentations were beautiful, brought on unique long platters. Each piece was carefully explained and overall the freshness and taste was quite good. I wouldn't say it was the best I ever had and doesn't compare to what you get from Nabu as a comparison. Yet, quite competent, keeping in mind that I am no where near an afficionado or expert of Japanese cuisine. The Spicy Tuna Roll was so good that we did order a second. To accompany my meal I had a 5oz glass of the house sake. It was absolutely smooth and refreshing, a good choice for the fish. The sake menu is beyond comprehension with the number of choices. Way out of my league. Service was competent and attentive, but somewhat stiff and not all that personable. It felt very formal. It was amazing to see the number of dishes and variety that came out of the kitchen. The price point is quite high, yet undoubtedly commensurate to the quality level. With tip it came to about $90. each, so over $180. total, more than I have had for as good as sushi meal in the recent past. It's certainly a popular place and I would return to be more adventurous. The overall atmosphere is pleasant enough and there are certainly enough awards on the wall to make a point.

Let's start off with the ambiance, it's a simple but warm environment. I actually like the minimalist approach. The staff were very kind and attentive. The sushi was fresh, buttery and delicious. They offer unique rolls and have twists on modern staples.

Best sushi I have had in my entire life... and I've had sushi in Japan. The fish quality is above and beyond, and the service is always great.

This place is AMAZINGG!! Starting with the ambiance, there is a good amount of indoor & outdoor seating with heaters & the service is amazing and we were well taken care of. The fish also melts in your mouth and it's so delicious especially the sake & hamachi! my favorite roll was definitely the crunch roll & would definitely recommend getting the matcha mochi cake at the end. Will definitely be coming back! :)

Sushi Ran Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Sushi Ran

Is the sushi bar reopened yet? I'm looking for a true nigiri experience without having to cross the bridge?

Yes I went a couple of months ago and people were sitting at the bar.

Are Pets allowed?

Yes, at their outdoor patio area

If i order one order of sushi, is it two pieces or one piece?

You order by the piece , the roll or the experience

Are you taking reservations for dinner?? I've tried calling, no one answers.

They should. I just made my reservation.

Can they cook all the raw meat part? Since I don't eat raw meat?

Yes, but just don't get sushi or sashimi then. I believe they have some fish that are cooked in their menu. Please don't ask them to cook the sushi or sashimi! That would be almost rude. :)

Omakase price per person?

$90

Is the sushi bar first come first served? Can I make a reservation on Open Table and just request…

You need a reservation for the sushi bar.

Are reservations recommended?

Recommendations better for peak lunch and dinner hours. Weekdays are easier w/o them but weekends best to get recommendations. Enjoy! Food is awesome!!

We started our food journey with the Crab Empanadas - followed with one of the best Sea Bass entrées we've ever had. (The fish melts in your mouth w/ a sweet Asian fusion taste). The Chocolate cake was the perfect way to end our night. A must try when you go to Tiburon! P.s. after our meal we took a stroll and enjoyed the bay views. You may want to plan that in :)

Service was fairly attentive - there was only one slight hiccup with one entree not coming out until around 5 minutes after everyone's dish so we had to wait. Pretty good selection of signature cocktails. The Liquid Gold was refreshing and not that strong. As for the food, we got the tartare, crab empanada, bungalow Benedict, and the phyllo crusted pork chop. The tartare was fresh and not fishy at all, but was missing some salt. Crab empanada was great. The cilantro avocado puree and aioli complemented the crab well. Eggs Benedict was standard. It was nice that it came with a model bakery English muffin, but nothing stood out. Pork chop was fried very well. Crispy exterior but soft inside. It was a pretty hefty cut as well. I expected more from the taverna fries but it seemed like standard frozen fries. The chimichurri sauce was good but had an aioli texture, which was weird but still good taste wise. To end, the butterscotch budino was fairly light and had a good sweetness. All in all, the lunch was still enjoyable especially with the view. I do wish there was that wow factor in some of the dishes to better match the price.

They are known for their fresh sustainable seafood and beautiful views of the San Francisco Bay. I had made reservations a week before our trip, for our Anniversary, to guarantee a nice table with the best views, and that's exactly what we got. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and taken to our reserved table. I think they gave us the best table they had. We could see the city of San Francisco and lots of pelicans. Their menu isn't as big as their San Francisco location, but it offers the most popular items like their famous ciopppino and many other dishes. We were brought ice waters and sourdough bread and butter. The bread was so warm and fresh. Very comforting. My husband ordered their special of the day, which was the grilled wild California king salmon. And I ordered the linguine con vongole, which is linguine with clams. Our food came out fresh and hot. My husband loved his salmon. My linguine and clams were good but overly salty. Our waiter noticed I wasn't eating my dish and asked if everything was okay. I let him know that it was very salty. Without hesitation, he removed my plate and had the kitchen remake it for me. He was so nice about. My remade dish was brought out to me and it was perfect. There were a hefty portion of the clams and the linguine was cooked at a perfect al dente. The manager came out to apologized for my first dish being overly salty and wanted to be sure the remade dish was just right. I really appreciated their kindness and making sure our evening was perfect. You can tell that they really care about their customers. At the end of our meal, they surprised us with a delicious piece of tiramisu for our anniversary. The plate was decorated like a piece of art with chocolate.
