With my lunch special I got soup, a salad, and two sushi rolls (one basic one and one special one). Everything was delicious and I felt very satisfied without feeling stuffed or comatosed. If I don't have a good experience on my first visit, I usually give it another shot before I write a review. Well, I thought my last visit was my first time here, but seeing that I checked into Sushi Kara before, I honestly don't recall the first time I ate here. It was apparently not memorable. This last visit was so off putting, I'll never return. They close at 9. Hubby and I came in at 8. There were a couple parties at tables. The small sushi bar was open, so we opted to sit there. The server was welcoming and said we could sit anywhere at the bar. She was actually nice taking our drink orders and taking care of our bill. It was more the sushi chef who seemed unhappy to be there and not interested in serving us. We offered him beer, which he declined. That's fine. He probably doesn't drink, but it's common to treat sushi chefs to drinks. Then I asked what he recommends (omakase). He just pointed to a sign of the day's special: negi-toro handroll or cut roll. Not something I was particularly in the mood for. He had no other recommendations. Being mindful of the time, we put in several orders of nigiri and a spicy garlic edamame right away, all of which were pretty fresh and well executed. The blue crab was pretty much imitation crab meat, though. When we heard them tell a couple of patrons that just entered that they are only taking takeout orders, I figured I would put in our last items, a salmon skin salad and my usual sushi dessert, unagi. The salmon skin pieces were unusually thick, albeit crispy. The iceberg lettuce was a major fail amidst the Cyclospora outbreak! While we were still eating, the staff was rushing to clean the dining area, behind the sushi bar, and the floors. Around 8:45, they already took the bill we paid for, all the chairs were up on the tables, we asked for a box to take the rest of the mediocre salmon skin salad home, I took my bites of unagi, and we left. The vibe was so passive aggressive and borderline rude. There are so many other better sushi establishments I'd rather drop my $$$ at. read more

Super glad we found this place! I've been missing good sushi since my fave place closed. We were in the area for an event & wanted sushi, so we decided to check this place out. Looking at reviews, it's been around quite awhile. Friendly staff got us seated, and it seemed quiet at first. But in about half an hour, more & more people came in, and it became quite filled! Restaurant looks smaller from the outside. Sushi came out to be really generous portions, feesh & delicious. They also had halibut fin, which was a plus for me! And I know sushi pieces were bigger than most because it was actually difficult to eat one in one bite, lol. The rolls we had were interesting too, and very flavorful! My husband ordered the chicken katsu curry, & he enjoyed it. When we first told the server we were hungry, she said we had come to right place - she wasn't kidding, we left very full & satisfied! Truthfully, I come here for one roll only at this point, the Oh My Garlic Roll! I've tried a few other rolls and they are good but I have never had a roll like their oh my garlic roll. It's creamy, garlicky, and just melts in your mouth. It's so so good. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on any other rolls because this is the only roll that stands out to me, I could rave on and on. Chicken Katsu is the best I've had since moving back from Hawaii! I had my order to go, but if you do dine in atmosphere is nice with friendly service! I've eaten there almost a dozen times. Spicy California roll is good has a kick to it but not a flame thrower. Just right amount to make it. Meal also comes with a cup of Miso soup which is tasty. My wife and I are on low sodium diets, so this place worked out perfectly. We started by sharing a large bottle of Sapporo which was served with chilled glasses. We each ordered the crab cucumber salad, and we shared a tuna roll, salmon roll and Washington roll. The sushi was very good, not exceptional. I much prefer octopus cucumber salad over the fake crab. Welp guess I found our new sushi spot! Came to Sushi Kara out of convenience and left a happy customer. It definitely had the feel of a quick go-to local spot as opposed to a night-out vibe. But the fish quality, selection, and authenticity definitely stood out. To eat we had two rolls, some nigiri, and the i love salmon appetizer. Once arrived, the place is a bit small but very accommodating for our party size of 7. Waiters was very welcoming and the staff was all nice and polite. Now down to the main event. I ended up just getting their cucumber roll ($18). It was a large roll that came with some salmon, tuna, a lot of imitation crab, and avocado. They kinda skimmed on the salmon and tuna but overall it was good and tasted fresh. It was large but I thought that was still kinda pricey. My one roll took about 10-15 minutes.
