My second time dining at sushi Jin and it's my favourite omakase experience all the time (even over Toronto omakase)! I came with a group of 5 and we had the entire counter omakase area (and restaurant) to ourselves! It was an intimate experience with the chef and friends. You have to pre-book in advance and pay upfront the entire price. It's quite expensive, at $300 a head but completely worth it for an experience and special occasion. Menu changes all the time based on what fresh ingredients the chef gets. We had some special uni that night that was absolutely amazing and so fresh! Think, mouthfuls of uni! YUM! The chef does a great job at explaining all the food items and ingredients used and is always super interactive with the guests. Pair your meal with some sake and it's the perfect touch! There's only two seating times at 6:00PM and 8:00PM. I was seated at 6:00PM and by the time we finished our meal, the 8:00PM crowd had already arrived getting ready for their time slot. It's a unique experience in itself and completely worth the price tag! Give it a visit!

Chef Jin was great at explaining the different pieces and how each item was prepared. I really enjoyed learning about the prep work that goes into the marination of the fish/seafood. Small group with 7-9 seats. Our whole party booked up the rsvp so it was nice to have the place to ourselves. Quality of fish was fresh and flavor was good! On the Michelin guide.

My wife and I came in from Seattle to spend some time exploring Vancouver. We are huge sushi fans, and even bigger Omakase fans, when we give ourselves permission to indulge. We came in on a weekday at the 8pm seating and had the whole counter to ourselves. To sum it up: the food, the service, and the experience were all top notch. Oftentimes, I judge a place based on the quality of the fish. At Sushi Jin, not only do they have great quality fish, but it's the finer touches that made the difference. Marinating ikura in 3 different ways across 4 days, check. Taking the time to dehydrate uni just so it's used to zest a spot prawn, you got it. Curating and creating soy sauces in house so it matches the flavor of the fish, they do that! Needless to say, we enjoyed our experience and learned so much about sushi in the process. We left our experience even more impressed than when we arrived. There was an evident passion and craftsmanship; it was a special experience!

Sushi Jin's omakase was the first omakase I've tried. We came upon it one night when wanting to have Japanese food and it was in the area, and found out that they only serve omakase. I didn't know what omakase was but since that time, I've became an omakase addict, and sad to say that no other place's omakase has surpassed Sushi Jin's so far. Their soy sauce content with the fresh nigiri is the just perfect amount of soy sauce. And their nigiri and appetizers in the omakase is very meticulously crafted - each bite makes you go omg. Though it is pricey, I've went back a few times already. And when my wallet is not thin, I'd love to go back again.

My husband and I came for the okamase set. The food was delicious and the service was great. We enjoyed each of the set and added an additional uni sampler to our dinner. We would want to come back again for the wonderful dinning experience.

B surprised me for my birthday and took me out to Sushi Jin, one of the higher end Korean run, sushi spots downtown. They specialize in edomae sushi. They're next door to Waverly Barber & Hair Salon and Babylon Cafe. We dropped in on a Thursday evening (7:30 reservation) but had to wait 15 minutes for our table. The inside is small with 6 tables (only room for 16 people). Service is friendly and our green tea pot was refilled several times. Oddly, they gave us bottles of Costco water. They no longer offer a regular menu (like when we visited). Now, only a premium omakase ($250.00/person) is offered with pre-payment required upfront. - Miso soup - slightly better than your standard miso soup. - Sushi moriawase ($36.95 for 8) - suzuki, kanpachi, shima aji, king salmon (from NZ), saba, hokkigai and unagi. Favourite pieces were the king salmon and shima aji. The hokkigai gunkan, which was shredded, was unique. - Assorted aburi zushi ($29.00 for 5) - unagi, otoro, beef tenderloin, king salmon and hotate. All the pieces were good quality. The unagi seemed out of place as it wasn't seared and tasted the same as the piece we were given in our assorted nigiri platter. - Tekka don ($49.95) - the bluefin tuna was buttery, melt in your mouth goodness. Excellent touch with the freshly grated wasabi and green onions. This brought us back to the otoro don's we ate in Japan except at a much heftier price point. - Tamago ($2.50) - always save the tamago for last. Mixed feelings about it. Didn't love or hate it but wouldn't order a second piece. - Brownie - small complimentary dessert to end our meal. Brownie had an interesting texture with a dollop of sour cream on top. If you've got the money, then you'll enjoy Sushi Jin. Good quality but pricey sushi. 3.5 stars.

We ordered takeout for a belated birthday splurge/COVID date night! We ordered: Blue fin tuna trio (double) Omakase sashimi moriawase w/extra hamachi shime saba Luxury Gunkan Negitoro sumi ika somen uni ae It was incredible! I actually think it was as good as our first experience, but I think the rice was better this time. We thoroughly enjoyed our decadent over-the-top meal. Strongly recommend if you are looking for a treat!

One of these things is not like the other. One of these things do not belong. Located on an unassuming block on the south side of Nelson street between Howe and Granville sits arguably one of Vancouver's best traditional sushi restaurants on the same block as a two dollar pizza place, a dive bar and fast food poutine. From the outside Sushi Jin looks like just another standard sushi restaurant but on the the inside be prepared to experience some of the top quality slices of fish in Vancouver and bring your wallet as this place is priced accordingly. The cheapest Omakase set is a 14 piece set for 85 dollar per person. My wife and I opted for the second most expensive omakase set at 135 dollar per person omakase set c and had a mind blowing experience. The omakase set c contains nigiri from the premium selections of the menu as well as two entrees, miso soup and dessert. In my view this is a special occasion type of place where high end sushi lovers will really appreciate the fish and the skill of the sushi chef. Those that like fusion saucy type rolls, and don't get me wrong there is a time and a place for good cheap mid grade sushi, should definitely look elsewhere.

The restaurant is small making for an intimate experience with the chef. There were 6 customers, the maximum, when my friend took me here for an omakase. The meal was incredible. As was our interactions with Chef Jin. Our server was quick to provide drinks, remove used dishes and keep our sides of homemade ginger and wasabi flowing. Chef Jin prepares art worthy courses starting with the first dish of lobster tail sashimi right through to the unique and refreshingly light dessert of green tea ice cream with red bean paste inside an edible shell shaped wafer. As outstanding as those two dishes were, so was the host of fish treats in between. A black cod course in heat flashed seaweed, that I forgot to photograph, was outstanding as was the octopus I also forgot to get a photo of. The tuna sushi and tuna hand roll with onions melted in your mouth. King salmon done two ways was the best tasting I've had. A scallop with uni and caviar was luxurious, as was the luxury course of that wonderful tuna paired with uni, baby shrimp and salmon roe. Every piece of fish was top quality, fresh, prepared with great care and plated nicely. It seemed the food kept arriving but in the end it was the perfect amount to feel comfortably full. I had a wonderful evening and an amazing meal. I highly recommend Sushi Jin if you seek the best and freshest sushi prepared with flare and food artistry. I hope to be back.

The quality of fish and attention to detail here is impeccable! Had a very enjoyable Omakase experience - not only was each course absolutely mouthwatering, but watching the chef create each of these was an art form in itself. Though more of an occasion restaurant if you're going for the Omakase ($$$), the experience is a unique experience you won't be able to find just anywhere in Vancouver!

Shout out to Vancouver BC Yelpers! Ventured to Sushi Jin here based on your Hot and New reviews (2/19/19). This was our first dinner visit from Shoreline, WA (north of Seattle). No reservations, walked straight in, underdressed in a bulky coat, sports hoodie, jeans, ratty cross-trainers...but treated with the utmost gracious and professional service. From the tea service, miso soup, salmon and tuna plates, the filet mignon pair, the kanpachi, and the hotate nigiri, plus the final dessert bite....absolutely worth every Canadian dollar spent! Seriously, on par with some of the pricier sushi establishments I've experienced in Seattle. Having worked at a seafood restaurant in the past and currently a QC microbiologist, I am very picky about my sushi selections. I'm sure the overhead security camera by our table captured my Cheshire cat grin by the end of our meal. A terrific find based on the local VanBC Yelpers! Definitely showcasing superb menu items while making it approachable, without attitude or pretense. Highly recommended!

This was as close to the omakase experience I had in Tokyo. I would say this was my favorite omakase experience in Vancouver. At our seating, we had a couple that didn't want to eat too much bluefin tuna, so he gave us extra. The freshness of the seafood will leave a memory burn for a long time!

Super fun omakase! Chef Jin was pretty entertaining, he also let us sample some of the fish and gave my hungry friends extra hand rolls! He always gave us a little tidbit/fun fact about each fish he served. The otoro and chutoro were super melt in your mouth and NOT stringy or chewy at all, he cut them super well. He also made a super cute gunkan that was very delicately put together. I highly recommend this place and will def be coming back for sure!

But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

Every guest is seated around the bar where they can watch the rolls being made fresh. Upon being seated you place your order by marking a piece of paper. We started off with cocktails: kaiju en neguroni and peach pafekuto and they were both refreshing. We each ordered a few rolls and my fave is the unagi hand roll. The unagi was flame-torched right in front of me. Prices are on the expensive side with small portions, but everything tasted fresh.

We picked up the 16-piece Premium Cut Rolls (toro, yellowtail, scallop, and truffle lobster), and the quality really showed in the taste. Everything was clean, fresh, and well-balanced -- no heavy sauces, no distractions, just really good fish. The toro was rich and smooth, the scallop was buttery, and the truffle lobster added a nice depth without overpowering the roll. Pickup was quick and seamless, and the food was packaged well for eating on the go before a flight. Portions are standard, but the flavor and quality are absolutely the highlight here. If you care more about how sushi tastes than flashy extras, Hello Nori is a great choice. Would happily come back next time.

Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was nearly full, which speaks to its popularity. I ordered the Tako Sunomono and the Premium Chirashi Don. Tako Sunomono: The octopus was perfectly tender and the vinegar dressing was refreshing--exactly what I needed to wash away the fatigue of the day. Premium Chirashi Don: The presentation was stunning and immediately worked up my appetite. Every piece of seafood was incredibly fresh and of high quality. You can really taste the difference here. If you're looking for healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented Japanese cuisine, Shizenya is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
