Whoohoo! 100th review on Yelp! Sad it's not a five star though. I read reviews. Looked at pictures and was excited to try this place. We ordered a few apps and sushi rolls from the HH menu and it was all just okay. Chicken wings had a great crispiness and there was a delish garlic sauce just on half The chicken wing. I wish it came with more sauce. Calamari was disappointing. It was just random cut up sticks that were overcooked and dipping sauce was sour. Husband enjoyed his shrimp tempura roll and bulgogi. The bulgogi was burnt and had that burnt bitter flavor and came out last. I had the 6 piece sashimi special. Fish was cold but the cuts were a joke. They literally took one normal slice of tuna and cut it in half. The salmon was two whole slices and the "white fish" ended up being red snapper. At least they were whole slices. I also had the jalapeño roll. Which was literally a jalapeño popper in a sushi roll. It was pretty good surprisingly and had the volcano roll. Presentation was cool because they lit it on fire. Service was a bit much. The girl we had was the only One working until just before we left. She constantly Kept asking if we were ready to order. But when you give me a book of rolls. It's gonna take time for me to read them. Lol. In the end. Food was just okay. Edible. Service was okay. There are just other better places. I guess a plus is they offer a large happy hour menu compared to others. read more

The food was amazing we got there after dinner rush our only complaint is that the tables were dirty but they slowly clean them up within the hour we were there. All the customers knew the waiters, seemed really nice they also infuse their own sake that's kind of cool. Would go again read more

Good sushi, quiet but fast, chili edamame was awesome, and dessert of orange/chocolate and whip cream was also really good. Tasted like sherbet, yumm. Wife and I had a good, quick full meal and would definitely come back. read more

It's the best sushi I've had in Mesa! The place is a little pricey, but its one of the better places to eat sushi in the Valley. What I got: Lollipop Roll. Rating: 3.5/5 Volcano Roll. Rating: 4/5 The Volcano Roll was pretty good - they set it on fire and I was in awe! The lollipop roll was surprisingly good! I came here with a total of five people, so its good for an intimate setting or to talk with a small group of people. I'll probably come back to eat here. I definitely recommend this place to eat if you're in Mesa and looking for a Sushi place to eat at. read more

I've been here twice the younger waiter is really nice that serviced us the last time , but the older one is extremely rude, I my daughter spilled her drink and I asked for some napkins to clean it up she never brought us any , 30 minutes go by and she brings us our food and then notices the water that's now dripping on the floor, she then brings over a soaking wet mop splash's the water all around getting my leg all wet and making a bigger mess , I had apologized for the mess twice , she didn't say a word to us the rest of the time we were their. She brought out a roll that wasn't ours and I told her we didn't order that she just gave me a dirty look and walked away.after all that I still gave her a 15% Tip. but we won't be back. Theirs a long wait the price isn't worth what your getting , My husband was sick and on the toilet for two days after eating the mystery roll, I'd recommend Yuma sushi a further drive but the people and food is awesome! read more

I posted a 5 star review a year ago and the place has gone so downhill customer service wise since. I only come for the cheap rolls now once every few weeks if other places are too far. Order take out! There's a lot of new faces hired there and they all act like you're inconveniencing them by spending money. read more

Tucked between a bank and an auto parts store, sits the most delicious locally owned sushi restaurant in Gilbert. Happy hour is all day and the quality of the food is spectacular. Perfect for date night or quick snack on the way home from the gym! read more

I can't sleep on these folks! I stopped in here for lunch today... interesting story... 'Lunch' for me usually just means 'any meal I eat before 7pm'. Often my mid-day meals fall around 2-5pm, and that is a TOUGH time to get into restaurants. Most everything is closed between lunch and dinner. Not these good folks, though... is it wrong that I almost gave them five stars for that alone...?? So anyhow, I stopped by here at about 3:30pm, and my first impression was that it was a nice little spot. So I saddled up to the sushi bar and took a look at their offerings. Pretty typical fare, and pretty much what you'd expect from XYZ Sushi establishment. Nothing overly surprising, but a decent menu nonetheless. So I ordered a few bits of sashimi, a few cuts of nigiri-zushi, and of course my salmon skin rolls. Everything was really good! Looks like they have a decent selection of sake, and a LOT of home-made infused sake as well. The service was prompt and attentive, everyone was friendly, and the sushi was damned tasty. I was impressed that they serve ama-ebi, and even fry up the head for you. The ikura was equally tasty, and all of the sashimi that I ordered was generous, with a nice heap of daikon. The salmon skin rolls were top-notch. I liked the little bit of spicy sauce that they put in there, it added a nice little zing. All in all, this was a solid place. I like the fact that they're open pretty much all day, and they're close to the gym I work out at. I can't really 'rave' about their sushi, because they didn't have a lot of the stuff that I really jam out on (toro, uni, iwashi, etc). What I *CAN* say is that that won't stop me from coming back here after a workout for a quick lean-protein fix. :) read more

Well deserved 4 stars. Came around 4:30 during happy hour. Quite and nice atmosphere and happy hour prices were fair. We ordered tempura veggies and jalapeño poppers to get started. They were good, poppers weren't to hot for those who don't like them too spicy but the flavor was really good. We ordered the double spicy, New Yorker, Las Vegas, crazy lobster and ultimate California rolls and an order of orange chicken. The rolls were all good and are fair size rolls. I'm not a huge orange chicken fan but everyone else were. I tried a bite and it was good, I could have eaten an order of it and enjoyed it. I'll be back! read more

Sushi Avenue is the best sushi place in the east valley. The menu includes many specialty rolls that are all delicious! I highly recommend the Phoenix Suns Roll! We have been here many times and have never been disappointed by the food or service. Ordered the "Love Love Roll" to try something different, no rice, it was my favorite roll by far of the 3 I ordered. Ordered the "red caterpillar" it was alright, not a ton of flavor and the jalapeños were super hot. "Volcano roll" was good and what you'd expect. The "love love roll" will have me coming back for sure. Spent $37. They also brought me out some orange slices for dessert. read more

I Love this place! I found Sushi Ave near my place of work. I found myself coming a lot during lunch with my coworkers, now I bring my Family an my kids love it! My Favorite roll is the Jalapeño Roll, I would recommend it if you enjoy spicy food. I give Sushi Ave five stars for the great taste, being quick with the orders and how affordable it is. So delicious. One of the best happy hours around. Sushi always tastes so fresh. Happy hour gets busy at night though so I always love to go for lunch happy hour when it's not as busy. We went here based off the good reviews, unfortunately, when we walked in it smelled like sulfur water. The restroom soap was cut with water. I looked in the back of house as I was passing back from the restroom, and it was filthy. The whole restaurant actually. Wish I could have gotten past how dirty it was and maybe the food would have been better. read more

If there was such a thing as negative stars this would be the place to get them, based on customer service. The food was good, no complaints. If your restaurant closes at 9:30 pm then why in the world would your cut off time to order food at 9:00 pm. WHAT!! So you close at 9:00 pm, not 9:30 pm? My daughter wanted ramen but they were not cooking it because of the time. I wanted yaki soba but couldn't get any because I tried ordering it a few minutes after 9:00 pm (not your closing time). I ate the sushi rolls that were ordered but was still hungry because it was 4 rolls for 5 people. Obviously we should have ordered more. One of the ladies offered us to order another roll but then we noticed that all the sushi product was being put away, therefore we couldn't order anything else because at 9:18 pm everything was put away, probably because your actual closing time is 9:00 pm not 9:30!! Needless to say, I had to go to Macdonalds since I was still hungry. I drove from Avondale to come to your restaurant and believe me when I say this, I will never return. NO RESPONSE NEEDED!! read more

Worked here when they first opened and I was 16. Multiple new owners and it still doesn't disappoint. Love that the new owners made it more inviting inside and kept a lot of the OG rolls from when they first opened. For a state with no ocean, it's pretty damn good. read more

I had higher expectations based on reviews. Service was friendly, food prep was slow, likely due to take out orders. Food did not come up in order, table across sat 5-10 min after us and got 1st round 5-10 min before us. There was confusion trying to deliver food to the wrong table, possibly because it wasn't coming out in order of when it was ordered. Nigiri Salmon was great, rest of the sushi was "ok" at best, a little disappointed honestly. We won't be back again. Unrelated note, men's bathroom had no hand soap. read more

It makes me sad to write this, because Sushi Ave used to be my favorite. Unfortunately, we had a pretty bad experience on our last visit. Someone must have called in sick, because they were SEVERELY under-staffed. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant (poor guy), and he had a difficult time balancing all the tables. We waited a long time to place our order, and an even longer time for our food. They've changed the menu to include different Asian cuisines, such as Bul-Ko-Gi (Korean) and Orange Chicken (Chinese). I think a Japanese restaurant should stick to serving quality Japanese food, but my husband wanted to try the Bul-Ko-Gi. I got the Chirashi Sushi bowl, and we ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll to share. My husband got his food first. We decided to share it, since it didn't seem like my food was coming any time soon. We finished his plate, and then the roll came out. We finished the roll, waited some more, then my food came out. Our waiter was never able to check on us or refill our waters. The food was mediocre. The fish wasn't as fresh as I remembered. It certainly wasn't worth the long wait. I won't be returning to Sushi Ave. I'll go to Sakana in Mesa instead. read more

Honestly, piss poor service. The staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. I got there close to 6:00 pm on a Wednesday to dine in. It was fairly busy, but I was told the wait would be about 15 minutes so I put my info down for a table for 3 and waited outside since there isn't much waiting space inside. There was only one couple ahead of me. Our group ended up waiting almost 45 minutes after the couple got seated PLUS another couple AND another group of 3. When I went in to ask if my table was ready, all the hostess said was "I was just about to call you. Your table is in the back to the left." No apology and she did not walk us back with any menus. When we did finally get our menus, our waiter was quick to take our drink order and bring them out, but that was about it. He walked by multiple times without so much a glance in our direction and the hostess ended up taking our order. After our food came out, our waiter did not check in on us once to ask us how we were doing, if we needed anything else or to even refill our waters. We even ended up having to go up to the front to pay. The food was pretty decent, but because of how bad the service was, I will not be returning and 100/10 do not recommend. read more

The customer service was terrible. From the moment we walked in, no one greeted us or was at the front to put us on the list. After waiting 20 minutes In line, we were seated. No one came to take our order for another 20 min so we walked out. Terrible performance. What a blunder! read more

The simple menu includes stir-fry options for the sushi shy, including the generously portioned and spiced suicide chicken, Korean BBQ short ribs marinated in a sweet mild soy sauce, and more. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. I also watch all of the employees but one prepping the food without gloves. This used to be our go to place for, but now with all this issues this time, we will probably have to find a new place.

I noticed that the main menu had a line at the bottom that stated a gluten-free menu would be available upon request. I did ask to see this menu as gluten-free is my dietary preference, not an allergyand I was brought a complementary gluten-free bun instead of the pretzel bread. I thanked our server and told him not to worry that it was just a preference and he told me that he treats all gluten friendly requests as an allergy. I really appreciated the care and concern he had for my health and well-being. This is unprecedented at most restaurants. They had a very extensive gluten-free menu and I can't wait to go back and try so many more items. We did try the Leonard burger and made quite a few modification requests - all of which were 100% accommodated. This burger was so incredibly juicy! Finally, the baby back ribs were the star for me personally because you can actually taste the pork for its quality. I usually expect a super sweet sauce that bogs me down after with ribs, but these ones left me feeling able to still go on about my day which I love. They aren't shake off the bone tender but I liked the gentle chew they provide. Overall, I recommend Joe's to anyone who cares more about the ingredient sourcing and quality while enjoying a nice family friendly vibe for a lunch/dinner. It was my typical Friday afternoon. I had finally finished my end-of-the-week errands and ended up with some free time before I had to go to work. So, I decided that I should treat myself to one of my favorite type of food, Sushi, and luckily I stumbled upon Sushi Ave, conveniently located down the street from my home. I walked into the cute little place and ordered my typical lunch, pink lemonade, edamame for appetizers and the Las Vegas roll, which was surprising cheap. The waiter was friendly, a twenty-something year old looking shy and nervous, as he took my order. After a couple more minutes of sipping on my lemonade and happily munching on my edamame, the waiter brought out my freshly made roll. Oh boy did that roll look particularly beautiful, everything was well proportioned so that it could fit perfectly into my mouth in one bite and when I did, I enjoyed every single flavor. All in all, when the waiter brought my bill, I signed that receipt smiling and even though my bill was for ten dollars, I easily tossed in an extra five just for the heck of it. Took my mother-in-law to lunch here last week. She had a combo roll that had salmon and eel and I had a soft shell crab roll and crunchy california roll. Price ranged from about $6 to $12 per roll on what we ordered. We also had some green tea ice cream for dessert that we really enjoyed. We thought the food was delicious and my mother-in-law even said she thought this place was better than her favorite sushi place in the bay area (Nothern California) where she is from. I will definitely keep this place in mind when I have visitors from out of town who wants to have sushi, not to mention go there myself when I have sushi cravings. Prices are reasonable and has a nice hip ambiance to it. I love this place! It was my first time here and I'm so impressed with their sushi and roll selection as well as their lunch and dinner options! We got potstickers that were crispy and delicious! My mom got the fried rice with chicken and got a salad and miso soup included. The salad had a yummy soy sauce-like dressing which was so good! I got the traditional California Roll as well as a Tootsie Roll and they both were so good! Service was awesome! At the end, we got complementary dessert oranges. The personal is just rude 1- we ordered 3 rolls and 2 fried 2- we got 2 rolls (looking like shit & small size not even looking the same as the photos) 3- we tried to get the order again, they refused. They said that our order and they refused to even re prepare the order. 4- we just left the orden there with no refound 5- the manager and the owner they are just rude they don't care about you. They just want your money. If you guys just want money, why just don't go at the traffic lights and ask for money ? This Chinese place it's not good. I don't recommend that place. We lost 57 dlls. I absolutely love this place! My uncle introduced me to eating sushi here around 4 or 5 years ago. I have tried many different sushi places but always come back to Sushi ave. I have some shellfish and citrus allergies and they are always so careful with my food. They always go the extra mile and have made me alternate options or helped me pick delicious options that will not aggravate my allergies. The service is always super friendly and they have great lunch menu prices! Also a great happy hour! I never leave hungry! As I moved the delectable sushi closer and closer to my tongue and mouth, the aroma that wafted into my nostrils took me on a journey to heaven and back. It wasn't until I tasted the sushi that I knew what true heaven tasted like. My taste buds greeted the spicy tuna roll with open arms and embraced the wasabi that accompanied it. You never would think that Gilbert has great sushi, but they do indeed. Sushi Ave is Gilbert's little sushi secret! It is funny to hear people think RA is any good...what a joke! My 10 year old loves going here. They often have sports on on TVs that are high and I don't really notice, but my son really enjoys watching as he is a huge sports fan. Also, he is not much of an eater, but I get him the Chicken Katsu and he eats the whole thing, including the soup and salad and the rice under the chicken. He's so skinny. So this place really works for me because I love good sushi and it is soooo good. And I can take my son and he eats a lot and enjoys the entertainment. They also have really tasty sake cocktails! This is probably my 4th time coming to Sushi Ave. in 2 weeks. They have double happy hour 11am-2pm and 4-7pm Monday thru Saturday! They have a wide array of specialty rolls that I haven't heard of (luckily they have specific descriptions of each), and the best part is I have Celiac Disease which can be really tricky with sushi joints, but I have yet to have any sort of gluten reaction which is AWESOME!! The girls at the front desk, they are either racists or they are miserable with their job not sure what. This is a great place to go if you're looking for some enjoyable sushi. I ordered the dynamite roll, ultimate crunch, and california crunch rolls. My family isn't much for the savory however these were nicely sweet with a bit of savory to keep it in my own taste. The staff were also kind enough to remove the sesame seeds from the sushi as we have an allergy. To finish we had mango mochi ice cream which really hit the spot! We recently ordered takeout from here and discovered a cockroach in our cucumber salad after my daughter had already started eating it. While management did appropriately issue a full refund for the order, the incident was alarming enough that we reported it to the health department. The health inspection was conducted last week, and the official report confirmed live cockroaches in the food prep area. Small restaurant, good for talking and socializing. I have been coming here for years and if all the sushi places in the valley, this one is overall the BEST on price, variety and the ability to cater to your specific dietary restrictions. I have celiac and they have always been wonderful at knowing what I can and can't eat. The one saving grace to this place is that the sushi was CHEAP compared to anything I've seen in the Phoenix/Mesa area. If cheap sushi is what you are looking for, you will find it here! But you pay for what you get. Overall, the sushi was not my favorite, and the atmosphere had some issues that made the experience a bit strange. After all of that, we got a quiet, half-hearted apology and that was it. Mediocre sushi, terrible service, and a careless mistake with our credit card. Def do not recommend.
