I know it seems stingy to give a 3 star rating when we really enjoyed all of the food (two special rolls and edamame), but it was unforgivable that our rolls came without wasabi, and when we requested it (IMMEDIATELY, as the food was delivered), it still took another ten minutes and a second request to get wasabi. When it arrived it was a giant mound, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't just put "a bit" on the plate with every roll (like every other sushi restaurant I've been to), or at very least be ready to deliver it upon request. Getting our check was another inexplicably difficult process. We didn't see our waiter so asked another waiter if we could get our check. He replied "yes right away", but that occurred quite a few minutes before I started writing this lengthy review, and we're still waiting. I'm not inclined to return. It was good enough sushi, but that's not that hard to come by. Also, our outdoor table in a nice location near the sidewalk was permanently sticky, as if the varnish was melting (it was even sticky on the sides of the table)--doesn't leave a good impression about cleanliness. read more

The best thing about this place is the friendly service. The waitress makes you feel welcomed right when you step in, and even the sushi chef checks in on you from behind the sushi counter. The sushi is only average. You get your standard fare---sashimi, rolls, bento, chirashi, and even a few choices of noodles. It's not going to be your best sushi, but not the worst either. Parking on 2nd Street is always going to be a nightmare on the weekend, but a weekday doesn't usually pose so much problem. read more

We thought on a Saturday night we would never get a table but thankfully our wait time was immediate....Enjoyed every bite of the sushi Japanese curry and ended our evening with the tempura ice cream....flavors were all amazing and quality of each fish was superb! Only lacking thing was the service...our table was always bypassed we waited for refill of water for a long time...had to waive the waiter down to refill our cups then she returned and we didn't know who's cup belong to whom...but we know with covid and possibly being under staffed that's probably why service was a bit lacking....but this won't deter us from returning for quality sushi.... read more

Ehhh not too bad but not too great either. Came here because I was having one of those days where I wanted sushi and lots of it. There was a nice wait for sushi on fire so did a quick Yelp review and ended up here. Sushi is decent and it'll do its job if you're craving but nothing spectacular worth mentioning. The quality of the fish is that of an all you can eat joint. Prices are decent and they have a long happy hour that lasts from 11am until 7pm I believe. Sushi chef was nice enough to make up a roll for us because what my friend normally eats they didn't have anything similar on the menu. Seating available both inside and outside. Service was basic. Pros: Large Portions Miso Soup was fragrant and complementary Sashimi lunch special is on until 4 pm...cool Cons: There were only 2 waitresses for the entire restaurant The waitress forgot my Pinot Grigio I love to sit outside to eat, but have never encountered so many flies...odd and annoying The mochi dough had an odd taste...Trader Joes is much better. They have outdoor dining and heaters. The service is top notch and the rolls are fresh with great quality fish. Their patio has limited seating so you may have to wait, but I promise it is worth it. Myself and a bunch of my coworkers showed up around 1pm with no reservation or notice for the staff. I also had my dog with me. The staff on shift accommodated us so well with a large table outside with no complaints and as quickly as possible. Service was great and accurate. Everything from the chef was so tasty and fresh. This place used to be Sushi-Saurus or something, but it recently changed ownership and became Sushi Ai. I had a pleasant time at Sushi-Saurus so thought there was no harm in trying the new one. The decor is a little different, with tables moved around and these pretty umbrellas(like the bigger versions of the umbrellas in cocktail drinks) are all over the ceiling hanging in different angles, some spinning, some still, but all pretty. We got to choose our seats since we went in around 2pm. We were served water right away, then miso soup! Sometimes you have to order a bento to get miso, but they gave it to us right away and it was steaming hot and full of tofu and seaweed. Next, the owner or manager came out with a mini salad with something fried on top. We were concerned because we didn't order anything yet, but she happily stated it was on the house! Awesome! And it tasted great. We think it was fried salmon over a bed of veggies with this amazing sesame sauce. I dig it. We ended up ordering the spicy garlic edamame, the salmon teriyaki bento, the spicy shrimp bento, and an Alaska roll. We thought the Alaska roll was 20% percent off which was why we got it, but when we got the bill at the end it wasn't discounted. Hmmmm. The food all arrived quickly. The bento's came with 4 CA rolls which were fresh and crunchy and delicious. The salmon piece I got was small, but the bento came with another salad, rice, tempura, AND CA rolls, so I couldn't really complain. I really enjoyed my salmon teriyaki, but my BF was not a huge fan of the shrimp. There were only 4 pieces of shrimp and they were average size, so he was done quickly. But like I said, a lot comes in the bento so we were still full. I would not recommend getting the Alaska. It's just salmon on top of a CA roll, and the salmon was not particularly fresh, cold, and didn't have that "bite" and "butteriness" to it like some sake sashimi does. I was disappointed with that. But overall,the customer service was fine, and there was a lot of food. Total was $35 for two people, although we really could have done without the Alaska roll. That Sushi was Aiite. Haha. We came and were pleasantly surprised they were one of the few restaurants that had reopened around and had good spacing for social distancing. Getting a seat on a Wednesday night wasn't a problem at 6:45pm. We decided to take out, ultimately, because we wanted to get to a pie shop that closed at 8pm. Here's where service slowed a bit because I noticed dine-in people who ordered after us were getting their food. We ended up waiting 30 minutes after we submitted our order to get our food! Mackerel was dry and flaky, not the texture you'd expect or want at all from raw fish. Miso soup tastes like dish water. Only reason I'm not giving 1 star is it was a late night order and it's still pandemic-y out. Still, highly advise avoiding this place, at least for delivery. We were seated right after we arrived to this place but waited almost an hour and didnt receive our food. The waitress didn't even check on us and gice us an update. We had to ask another waitress from another table and she heard us, but didnt do anything about it. We were so disappointed and left the place without eating. If you want to eat here make sure your willing to wait 1.5 hours just to receive your appetizer. Awesome location, in Long Beach second street. The food was great, they have variety of sushi and drink selections which I loved. There is a bit delay in the service due to many people visiting at that time but the staff were very nice and try to accommodate as soon as they can. Ordered on uber eats and it was amazing! I am GF because of celiac, AND THEY GAVE ME GF SOY SAUCE! I am so so happy! they have this celiacs stamp of GF approval.
